Not too long ago (in a galaxy not too far away), the term presentation software meant poster board and marker pens. Times sure have changed. Now, computer presentations are the norm; in fact, you may get some downright dirty looks from your boss if you come into a conference room carrying flip charts or a stack of handwritten transparencies.
The term PowerPoint has become synonymous with fancy-schmancy, computer presentations; in fact, PowerPoint is now a major tool in boardrooms everywhere. And if you haven't been instructed to create a PowerPoint presentation, it's only a matter of time before you will be! But how do you get started with PowerPoint? How do you get those ideas in your head or on your legal pad into a slick presentation format? Despite Microsoft's valiant effort to make PowerPoint easy to use, it's still one of Microsoft's most complicated programs. And that's where PowerPoint 2000 For Windows For Dummies steps in to help. Veteran Dummies author Doug Lowe introduces you to the power of PowerPoint 2000 in his typically humorous and easy-to-understand style. This book not only shows you how to get started with PowerPoint 2000, but it also shows you how to actually do what you need to do – without all the geeky jargon of the standard computer manual. Here's just a few of the topics covered in PowerPoint 2000 For Windows For Dummies:
So whether you're an experienced PowerPoint guru or a newbie who has a presentation due by the end of the week (and it's Thursday!), you'll find all you need in PowerPoint 2000 For Windows For Dummies. |

I bought the book specifically to learn how to show slides with a powerpoint program and projector. It barely touched upon it. I'm still left fiddling with a program that seems difficult to me, an experienced computer user.

I bought a PowerPoint 2000 for Windows for Dummies book for .95 (cents). I was very surprised when I opened the package and found a brand new book inside. I expected a badly torn and used book. However, I got a brand new book in the mail. I'm still suprised over that since I always taught I would get scammed if I bought anything over the internet.

I purchased this book through Amazon.com from Matt nacc@yahoo.com. The service was great and the book arrived in near perfect condition. This book is a great help to me in making interesting presentations for my adult Sunday School class. I was raised with the yellow graphite, erasier attached to the top "word processor." This book is clearly written, easy to understand, and fun to read. I'm very satisfied with the book, the service, and the supplier. Thanks again!

Ok, here's the situation, I had a job interview that required I take a proficiency test using power point and I'd never used the program before. At first I feaked when they told me, but then I ran out and grabbed a copy of this book with the hopes that it would help me not make a complete fool out of myself. Following along with the book on my notebook, I had no trouble understanding things from basics to more advanced techniques (like posting presentations on the internet). The witty voice and cartoons that the 'Dummies' books are famous for kept me alert and interested in moving forward. I never felt like I was being talked down to and was suprised to find myself enjoying the process! One thing I really appreiated is they give you multiple ways of preforming the same task, so you can choose which is best for you (also on these job proficiency tests they sometimes like to have you do it their way, so you better know more than one way to do things).
One week later I took the test, scored a 90% and was offered the position. Thank you Doug Lowe! (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:16:55 EST)

This book was well written and provided a large amount of information - but did not cover any advanced techniques. If you have even a little experience with Power Point (or graphic design in general), pick another, more advanced book. You'll be much more rewarded.

Doug Lowe admits that he won't win a Pulitzer for this book, but he does deliver a sharp, witty look at the world of madness we call PowerPoint 2000. This book follows the tradition of the "Dummies" series by providing an easy to read text mingled with subtle humor. This book is a must-have for PowerPoint users. Easy enough to understand for beginners, yet advanced enough to keep the pros interested.

I am an experienced Mac print designer, but I was thrown for a loop when I had to design a truckload of presentation graphics for another client using a laptop pc and Windows. In a panic, I bought this book, and it literally saved the day. Not only did it guide me through the entire creative process, it helped me with file management and shortcuts, all in an entertaining, concise manner. Unlike most tutorials, it didn't make me "glaze over" and fall asleep! My only quibble: it's a bit difficult to find things in the index, but maybe I'm relying on Macintosh vocabulary instead of Windows jargon.
