The Mayan Code: Time Acceleration and Awakening the World Mind

Bestselling author Barbara Hand Clow shows how the Mayan Calendar is a bridge to galactic wisdom that fosters personal growth and human evolution

• Unearths the meaning behind the calendar, its message for modern civilization, and what will happen when the calendar ends

• Reveals how time acceleration is a manifestation of the acceleration of consciousness

• By the author of The Pleiadian Agenda

Many researchers have investigated the science of time cycles by using the Mayan Calendar, which tracks the 5,125-year Long Count ending in the year 2012. History shows that civilizations suddenly appeared around 3115 B.C. in Egypt, India, and Sumer that used calendars based on systems similar to the Mayan Calendar, reflecting what was once a universal and sacred understanding of time. In The Mayan Code, Barbara Hand Clow draws on the work of biologist Carl Johan Calleman and many other New Paradigm researchers to unearth the deeper meaning behind the calendar and its message for modern civilization, especially during its final five years.

As we approach the end of the Mayan Calendar, time and consciousness are accelerating. Working with Calleman’s time-acceleration theory, Barbara Hand Clow shows how the cycles of time marked by the calendar match important periods in the evolutionary data banks of Earth and the Milky Way Galaxy and that the calendar describes the evolutionary stage to come. She explores how our own personal healing is the most important factor as we prepare to make this critical leap in human evolution--now referred to as the awakening of the World Mind.

This book was interesting for the most part. In my opinion, the author should probably refrain from discussing her political views as that is not why I want to read a book about the Mayan calendar. Her political views do not interest me, nor do her out of body experiences. The facts seem to come mostly from other authors research books and then she adds her opinions and a few predictions for the future. It was the first book I had read on the subject so I did learn many things I did not know about the Mayan calendar, but by the time I completed the book I decided I would have gained more knowledge about the calendar by reading the books she used for research.

I'm very interested in learning more about the Mayan prophecies surrounding 2012. This book looked like a good choice but after only getting about half way through it I'm not sure it's what I was looking for. It was often hard to follow and I ended up feeling like like there was a pre-req primer that I needed to find and read first. I'll keep looking for something more basic and maybe come back to this one later.

I found the material to be very interesting and would have rate the book four stars; except that in reading the book the material is a bit too choppy to follow, chapters don't link together too well. Outside of that very interesting book.

The Mayan Code is a book I found I was not able to put down. As I read I found places within my being relaxing in a way I have not felt before. This is a magical gift to the reader. Barbara Hand Clow writes in such way that brings understanding about the Mayan Calendar in easy to understand insights. I am grateful for the references she has given regards Calleman's work along with the many other book titles and authors mentioned thoughout the read. I look forward to reading more of her works and feel a great gratitude for the support given to me within the reading of this book.

The title sounds great, and the topic is fascinating. This reads more like a disorganized book report put together to meet a certain number of pages. The author continuously refers to Calleman, which makes it all that much worse. If I wanted to read Calleman, I would have bought his book and read it.

Her continued bantering about the American Evil Empire is rediculous. How did such an interesting topic become such a political book? The title should be more like I hate America, and I bring up some unorganized thoughts about the Mayan Calendar along the way.

Don't waste your money or your time. Read some other authors on this topic...

This book is a key in understanding not only of our history as humans, but also earth and our galaxy. The Mayan Code is here put together with an astrologers view and reading of the planetary energies surrounding us.
The upcoming events need millions of readers with comprehensive understanding and why 2011 is so important for our "junk DNA" to lighten up again.
Highly recommended for the open mind reader!

There are some decent bits about the mechanics of the calendar. However, the author spends more time puking out her political opinions than she does on the subject matter. This book was a major disappointment, as I had to weed through the soapbox-style tirades to find the information on the Mayan calendar and 2012. On the whole, this book was a total waste of time.

Several reviews have criticized this book for lack of technical depth, yet the author clearly states that this was not her intention and directs you to Calleman's work for this material. You don't hand a child a copy of Webster's Unabridged and say "Here, learn to read & write!" Those who don't really care about the more technical nuances and those who are perhaps not patient enough to wade through all of the "nitty gritty" will appreciate this presentation. Although simpler than others, it still contains much useful material about the Mayan calendar, a buzzword often used and seldom fully understood. I am not the least bit sorry I bought and read this book, though I will agree it could have used a little less frequent mention of her previous work. If you enjoyed "The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls" - buy this book.

This is a fascinating study of the Mayan calendar or time keeping system and it's relationship to the history of the planet earth and other time keeping systems. The author notes comparisons to India and Egypt and other ancient civilizations and points out how evolution speeded up at many places on the planet at the same time.
Since I am still in the middle of the book, I can't explain more, but I am glued and often rereading sections to absorb all the information. She also inspires me to read her other books which are referenced often in this work.

This is a terrible book. Poor Barbara seems to have swallowed Calleman's ramblings hook line and sinker. It's really sad, especially because of the tragedies that she has suffered with her children. What really blew my mind was the clear sign that was given her when her son committed suicide with Calleman's book in his backpack. I do not interpret it the way she did ... I interpret it as a warning. Follow the ravings of Calleman at your own peril.

Sad ... very sad.

I can't even START this book and feel it was a total waste of my money. While I sympathize that she lost her sons, in the forward, she goes on about the war and how she feels for parents who have lost children in the war and that is was not worth their deaths. Nice that she expressed sympathy, but she should have kept the rest out of it. She doesn't know HOW those families feel, and it had nothing at all to do with the book. Again, this was a complete waste of my money.

This is a topic that's held my interest for many, many years. I bought this book because of the subtitle "Time Acceleration and Awakening The World Mind", hoping for more insight into the current "Time of No Time" that we're all experiencing, as foretold by the Hopi. I figured Barbara Hand Clow would shed some insight. She did nothing by muddy the waters and confound me with this book.

In the same Amazon shipment, I purchased "The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Conciousness" by Carl Johan Calleman, Ph.D.

I read the Hand Clow book first, FORCING myself to plow through it, despite the poor structure, unclear writing style and her inability to make points that I surmised that she might be aluding to. I kept searching for something. What I found was repeated references to Calleman's book, quotes from his text, and even diagrams from his book. By the time I finished "The Mayan Code", I resolved to never buy anything by this author again. If she hadn't gotten permission from Calleman to cite and reproduce his work, I'd have considered this the highest example of plagarism I'd ever encountered.

When one author cites materials from the work of another, it's usually expected that they build upon their concepts or bring out further insights. In Hand Clow's book, all she managed to do was confuse me about Calleman's message because she doesn't seem to comprehend a Code of her own. I thank my lucky stars that I bought both books. Once I started reading Calleman's, I couldn't put it down. He answers all of the questions I've poked at for years, including the shortening of Time.

This is my very first Amazon Review in many years of reading them. I will review Calleman's book shortly, rating it 5 stars. Do yourself a HUGE FAVOR, and buy Calleman's book instead. His "Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Conciousness" is pure genius. It is clear, concise and articulate beyond belief. Not only does he explain the acceleration of time, based on his personal understanding of Mayan time cycles and 30 years of research into the Mayan calendar, he truly delivers an historical understanding of how those cycles will actually transform human consciousness. His book has the answers, this book only begs questions -- and Calleman's forgiveness.

This is a fascinating topic, and Barbara Hand Clow touches on some very interesting ideas with a hopeful conclusion. However, her writing is very poor! She uses an informal language style that is at the 3rd grade writing level. This book is not well organized. Clow discredits the New Age community by making antagonistic statements towards scientific research, when actually, there is archaeological, geological, astronomical, and physical evidence that support ideas presented in "The Mayan Code". Clow unsatisfactorily skims a most intriguing topic while filling the pages with unnecessary political and religious aggression and overly detailed stories of how information comes to her - by intuition(not through much research!).
The author does cite other sources, which would hopefully provide more intelligent readings - maybe these authors are better: Arguelles, Calleman, Coe, Kearsley, LaViolette, Jenkins?
I wish more research had gone into this book and I wish Barbara Hand Clow would take a few writing classes.

Ms. Hand Clow delivers in The Mayan Code quite possibly the worst book I've read. The vast majority of the book is her gushing exaltation about Carl Calleman's interpretation of the Mayan calendar. (Calleman's work is inaccurate and not actually based on the calendar. In his own words "a distinction has been introduced here between the Great Cycle of seven DAYS and six NIGHTS and the Long Count, the chronology that is actually used by the Maya") To be fair, Hand Clow does mention the work of John Major Jenkins in places but doesn't get into any detail of his rigorous studies. The writing itself reads as one part rambling account of her belief systems and one part advertisement for some of her other books which are mentioned ridiculously often. It would seem that the author has a nose for the new age topic of the day and scrambles to write an op ed piece in the form of a book to capitalize on an easy audience.

One will find very little of value in this book. If you're actually interested in Mayan calendrical studies I refer you to the works of John Major Jenkins, Dennis and Barbara Tedlock, Tony Aveni, Linda Schele and David Frediel. Once armed with knowledge based in fact one can tackle the more, shall we say, interpretive works of Calleman, Arguelles, et al.

It's unfortunate that this book mixed it's very bigoted anti-American (we are called "pigs" at one point"/anti-Christian theme (saying Christianity is on it's way out, partly due to Dan's Brown's books/movie), and couldn't stay on track of historical milestones coinciding with Mayan Epochs/seasons. Otherwise I'd probably give this one a 3 stars instead of 1. If you say that the anti-Bush/Christian/American theme is part of it's history and fits into the theme of the book, then you are also faced with hypocrisies like;

Calling the hurricanes that hit Florida a sign that the earth is upset with Jeb Bush, and then in the same chapter saying how terrible the Indonesian tsunami was, with no mention of the earth being upset with anyone. A little hypocritical I think, and taken to be more of insult then historical. I know this type of retort can be popular, and perhaps would resonate with some, but if you're looking for historical facts based studies in a realated field, I would highly recommend the History Channel's study on Egyptology, an excellent look at epochs and how they coincide with great events in history. It's a bit brief, but probably gives you the same amount of facts, but without dragging on with nonsense.

(Hide Review...)  A shaman's interpretation of the Mayan Calendar
Reviewer Permalink
We have all been experiencing the effects of what Barbara Clow calls the time acceleration timetable encoded in the Mayan Calendar. This translates into the speed at which thoughts become reality, or as we've been saying in the New Age: instant karma. Well, it's here and we don't have a choice, our negativity or creativity will manifest in our lives with increasing frequency as we approach the 2011/2012 end of the calendar. (This allows us to clear up our emotional patterns and become enlightened beings.) But, what I found most fascinating about Calleman's theories and Clow's interpretation were the nine cycles of history or underworlds, going back to the Big Bang, each twenty-times faster (more condensed) than the preceding cycle, each broken down into further divisions of time--days and nights--so that we can compare themes. That is Day Four of the Galactic Underworld (1/5/99-10/28/11) December 4, 2004 to November 28, 2005--the Southeast Asian Tsunami, Ahmadinejad elected president of Iran, Hurricane Katrina, the great controversy over The Da Vinci Code leading to its own "enlightenment," compares to Day Four (749-355 BC) of National Underworld (3115 BC to 2011)--Isaiah warning the Israelites to change their errant ways, the days of the spiritual leaders: Lao-tse, Buddha, Confucius, Plato; to Day Four (AD 1873-1893) of the Planetary Underworld (AD 1755 to 2011)--Blavatsky founding of the Theosophical Society, Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science, or the height of the spiritualist movement in America. Understanding how the Mayan shamans were able to see these patterns and encode them into their calendar takes the genius of a modern-day shaman, Barbara Hand Clow, to take new research and insights and show us the broader picture. It's heady and intuitive in equal measure. I can't recommend this enough for those struggling to understand and adapt to acceleration we're all experiencing.

This book, by Barbara Hand Clow, is well written and appears to be based on facts involving the ancient Mayan calendar. She speaks to the acceleration of time and the process of human evolution from ancient times through the end of the calendar 2011/2012 (guesstimates vary through 12/21/2012). I know that some of you believe that we are currently in transformative times and are seeking to make sense of it all. Right now, according to the Mayans, we are walking the path "Xi Balba bih" (The Road of Awe) and for those seeking a better understanding of what lies ahead, this book could be useful. This book is NOT a doom and gloom portrayal of the future, but is, as I believe, the hope of a better future, a future of peace and love for many as we move forward into an anticipated leap of human consciousness. Barbara talks about the meaning of the calendar and the message it holds for modern civilization. Barbara gives in-depth explanations of how the Mayan calendar works, the details of which are a little too technical for me, but that's OK. I don't really need to understand the details of the calendar itself, just her rationale for her analysis. Much of this book resonates very well with me. She talks about the acceleration of time and consciousness. She references the time-acceleration theory work of Carl Johan Calleman and other researchers for a better understanding of the calendar, particularly during its last 5 years (2006/7 through 2011/12--like now Dude/Dudette!) She indicates how the calendar's cycles of time match up with important past and current time periods of the Earth and the Milky Way Galaxy.

I've been reading some 2012 stuff, I guess trying to find something that resonates with my own feelings and guidance in this area. I had studied the Spanish/Mexican language and culture for 5 years in school. In 2004, I visited the Mayan ruins in Chitzenitza, in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. I was fascinated by what I saw and have great respect for this very ancient culture (in its early days, before it was altered by a European gentleman). Our guide was also a Mayan descendent and who spoke about the Mayan calendar in some detail. As you may already know, Mayans were obsessed with time and were extremely accurate in their projections of it. So, maybe they have something to tell us about the future. Granted, no one knows what is going to happen, but, assuming the authors currently "out there" are being honest, and they are getting guidance from somewhere--well, let's just say that there's lots of different guidance going around right now, that's for sure, and lots of confusion. Like I said, this book makes sense to me. If 2012 and projections of a "new world" interest you, consider this book. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Just a side note, though, there are a lot of detailed explanations about the calendar so it gets a little hard to read because of the wealth of details. With that said, though, there's still a lot of info. So, it's like saying, "I'll tell you how to make a watch. If all you need is the time, then take the time and run with it. Disregard what you don't need in extra info."

There seems to be a steady flow of this type of revelation coming from the New Age and Christian communities in this crucial stage of the awakening. This work does a fantastic job in presenting new avenues of thought for those seeking truth and enlightenment. Although I am a Christian, I know it is very difficult for many "traditional" Christians to accept change, especially when the teachings unveil such suppressed and controversial subjects. Nevertheless, this is a strong work that provides a great deal of insight. A must-read if you want to continue to grow in your enlightenment. I also strongly recommend another similar and shocking work that also provides logical and spiritual answers to the phenomena that intrigue us all. Barbara Hand Clow makes an excellent and convincing summary of the Mayan Clendar and it's meaning for humankind in the very near future up through 2012. Very interesting reading, HOWEVER . . . she used it to put forth her vitreolic political opinons in chapter 6 (and throughout) that could have been better spent using different examples. She compared President Bush (and his "Bushites") to other fascist regimes, including Hitler's. including, "Will the American people under Bush act as the German people did under Hitler?" On page 144 she even stated that 9/11 couldn't have happened "Without the green light from military and secret agencies leading all the way to the White House . . ." Also, her larger message is significantly dimished by her constant rantings about the American "global empire." Other quotes: "As if the gods were throwing spears at Bush's brother Jeb, ferocious hurricanes such as Ivan pummeled Florida." and, "As if nature had decided to deal with the Bushites, Katrina, a massive category 5 hurricane, barreled into New Orleans . . ." Unfortunately, her frequent anti-American sentiments show her as an embittered author better suited for the "political diatribe" section of the bookstore.

Barbara Hand Clow has once again provided us with a timely message for all humanity. Continuing with themes she has explored with her previous books, especially The Pleiadian Agenda, Catastrophobia and Alchemy of Nine Dimensions, Clow presents an interpretation and exploration of the Mayan Calendar that helps to crystallize the events of the last five thousand years.

Clow postulates, with strong adherence on the work of Carl Johan Calleman, that Mayan visionaries constructed the calendar in recently modern times as a tool to see into, not only the very distant past, but into the future as well. Utilizing hard science as well as profound metaphysical understanding, Clow once again demonstrates a unique ability to teach from both sides of the brain, providing the reader with empirical scientific evidence and her own experiential knowingness achieved from many different teachers and traditions.

Barbara Hand Clow is a visionary thinker and teacher, oftentimes many years ahead of the rest of us, and gifts us with another tool to prepare for the coming awakening of consciousness that is humanity's destiny--I highly recommend this book!

The MAYAN CODE, Time Acceleration and Awakening the World Mind.
Drawing extensively on Carl Calleman's interpretations of the Mayan Calendar and synthesizing that work with those of other Mayan scholars, Hand Clow takes us on a break-taking journey through time and the evolution of consciousness as she streams the information through her own extraordinary scope of bicameral knowledge and wisdom. Based on Callemans' work the Calendar provides a 20/20 lens from which to view history. Hand Clow uses the accuracy of that view to turn the lens around and peer forward to 2012 and what a sight! On a journey that is often one foot in front of the other and frought with uncertainty, Hand Clow clears the way for a light and full hearted sprint to the end of time. A challenging read but a truly revelatory and uplifting book.

I have been interested in the Mayan Code, but Clow had to throw in her political leanings like calling Hugo Chavez a "model" leader, Iran's leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad "very spiritual", and Bill Clinton "villified". Other parts of her writings seem very anti-American to me. I wish that I would have spent my money elsewhere.

This is a fascinating book. It's not an easy read but something in it seems to resonate soundly. It explains much of how time is being accelerated and why in a way that "fits" into my heartspace. Thank you, Barbara Hand Clow for your life's work!

So far, I'm enjoying this book very much. Gotta say it's over my head in many ways, but I figure it will be easier to understand if I persist.

The Mayan Code is truly a gift! Barbara Clow brings a feeling of clear fresh air into what sometimes feels like a fog-filled realm of speculation and doom regarding the Mayan Calendar and this critical time in our evolution. Her ability to bring complex and sometimes confusing information to readers in a relaxed, digestible form is remarkable. She comfortably integrates the enormous contributions of Carl Calleman's discoveries with the relevant work of other Mayan scholars and her own brilliant understanding of what is really taking place now and in the coming years. Ultimately, The Mayan Code leaves you uplifted and inspired. What is unveiled is the realization that rather than coming to the end of life on planet Earth in 2012, we are, in fact, gifted with a the rarest of opportunities. We are present for the what may surely become the time of the greatest transformation in human comsciousness ever! Ever!

Expanding on Carl Johann Calleman's seminal work of time acceleration during the end phases of the Mayan Calendar, Hand-Clow's perspicacious Mayan Code ups the amperage in an area of thought too lately mired in uncommonly pedestrian analyses and trifling infighting.
Deftly dispatching the too often apocalyptic end-date-of-the-calendar myopia, Hand-Clow takes the reader on an astonishing journey of new analyses, reinterpreting who we've been, who we are and who we're becoming. Incorporating invigorating new thought from areas as diverse as soul involution, new-paradigm astrophysics and archaeology, exo-politics and indigenous anthropology--plus a scintillating dash of her own intuitive analysis--Hand-Clow with gracious aplomb probes the genesis of the burgeoning new potential on planet Earth.
With The Mayan Code, Hand-Clow has crafted an energetic cross-discipline exploration of human development through time that concludes with our present high-velocity transformation of consciousness at the close of the Mayan Calendar. If the Mayan Calendar is a blueprint of humanity's maturation and ascendance, then The Mayan Code provides the lattice for humanity's psycho-spiritual transcendence into its birth right as a fully-conscious multi-dimensional species.
Find a comfortable chair and enjoy the ride as Barbara in her characteristic no-holds-barred style rips through time from the Big Bang to the Paleozoic to humanity's self transformation at the end of our current era, all the while taking you on an inner journey of self-discovery consonant with our coming of age as a species. A remarkably refreshing and innovative read, The Mayan Code will embrace your mind, soul and spirit, and caress you with an orgasm of transcendent spiritual synergy.
Want to know where we're headed as a species, and how and when we'll get there? Get The Mayan Code! Read it. Live it. Embrace the time acceleration and embody Gaia's ascendance and humanity's transformation during the almost-too-rapidly emerging multi-dimensional era of Light.
I was still weeping with joy two days after reading The Mayan Code.

Clow has mastered an area of study and a system so complex for Westerners to understand and apply, that I was quite impressed with the veracity of her dissemination process. I have read Dr. Calleman's work and found it to be quite academic in style, compelling, and at times profoundly difficult to stay with. Not so with The Mayan Code. Important empowering information will challenge the status quo, the social mind agreements, and the apocalyptic mindset. Clow has produced a work of art that culminates into a provocative and hopeful outcome, you cannot help but feel the tender chord of hope.

Though I am VERY interested in 2012, and all the ramifications thereof, I felt this book was too mathematical and technological for me to wade through. I gave up about half-way. I guess my little part in the world mind will have to sleep through all the fun.
