"Tales from the Dad Side" is disarmingly powerful.
Readers are warned that this is a "funny book," and it is all of that. Steve Doocy has a very engaging writing style that features an endless stream of humorous, laugh-out-loud metaphors and pop culture side shots on every page. You can almost hear the rim shots in the back of your head. Absolutely awesome. And yet, if this book is so funny, why was so I misty-eyed as I turned the pages, in much the same way I reacted while watching "The Bucket List"? If you are a Dad it's as simple as this - this book hits your humerus on its way to your head and your heart. What we have here is an author who is skillfully presenting his life in a humorous and poignant fashion. Along the way he invites his fellow Dads - and sons - to remember all the similar times and moments of their lives, and, with the wisdom gained from the passage of time, to re-enact and re-interpret, even retrospectively understand, their meanings and emotions. It's great to read a book that celebrates the value and contributions of fathers, rather than bash or ridicule or minimize them, which seems to have been too popular a trend for too long. Hurrah to Steve Doocy. Read his tales at your pleasure, but be ready for some serious introspection. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-30 12:10:13 EST)

I want to add to the unanimous nauseating praise for this book. Steve Doocy has proven himself to be a courageous journalist, brilliant humorist, expert political commentator and literary genius. With the release of this highly entertaining and provocative book, Doocy can now also lay claim to being the funniest chronicler of the foibles and triumphs (mostly foibles, ha, ha, ha!) of fatherhood. Excuse me, I feel a little barf about to come. I'll be back to heap more praise on Doocy and this great book.

I'm only about half way through this book as it is not what I expected and doesn't hold my interest as anticipated. So far, nary a chuckle. The author spends more time talking about himself and his childhood then he does about the topic of a father raising children. He has talent as a writer, but the title of the book is deceiving.

Steve Doocy has done it again with "Tales from the Dad Side" book. It is real life, funny, and full of great stories that match my own experiences. This book should be turned into a weekly sitcom. I wouldn't expect any less from Steve Doocy, whom I love to watch on Fox and Friends where he shares his life along with the news. Get this book and laugh, smile and share with your own family and friends!

I bought this because my I like Steve Doocy and his easy going manner and as a gift for my husband. I also have two sons who have just become fathers and thought they would enjoy this book. I read it and laughed out loud! I can relate to so many incidents, funny and sad, that Doocy described in the book and know my sons and husband will as well. Each of the boys will get a copy for Christmas. It's refreshing to read something that makes us feel good all over.

Steve Doocy and I have a lot in common (other than the fact that he's taller, younger, better-looking, and makes a lot more money). We both have wonderful wives, three kids, with a son the oldest, and who is going to Villanova (mine graduated in 1994). This book brought back a lot of memories, from when I was a kid, to the days of my own childrens' births, and their subsequent growing up years. There are many, many extremely funny episodes in the book, and my loud guffaws were really annoying my wife, who was trying to read her own book. Also, there were poignant and sad parts and those made me tear up (Steve seems like a sensitve guy also). Even though this is a book geared mainly for dads, I don't see why moms can't read it also, and I intend to give it to my son to read, as he is the father of two very beautiful daughters, who are the light of my life. If you have no sentiment, don't read this book, but if you can look back on your life with fondness, hilarity and sorrow, you'll love this book as much as I did!

I did it to myself again - I bought Steve Doocy's new book and chose an evironment inappropriate for bursts of laughter when I cracked it open for the first time.
It was during the 2nd half of the last game of the World Series, while sitting on the couch with my husband suffering from a cold. We're Tampa bay residents and Rays fans; the picture is now complete. Knowing Steve Doocy's entertainment factor from his first book, I read "Tales from the Dad Side" as a non-Dad. Don't let the title fool you: Steve Doocy's book applies to practically every family member you know - including yourself! The fits of laughter started with Steve's choice of activities following the birth of his son Peter (God bless you, Mrs. Doocy!) and continued beyond his experience at the spa/salon with his two daughters. The humorous and heart-felt recounts take the reader all over the world: from Steve's hometown, to a volcano in Hawaii, to Ireland and many stops along the way. Sidenote, after reading this book, you will definitely take on a different view of parmesan cheese and the Blarney stone! For me, Steve's book comes at a time when we need as much laughter and positive family experiences as possible in our lives. I quickly turned to Steve's book while our Rays lost the World Series, the market continued to tank and the Presidential election kept us up for several nights leading to and including election night. This book shows us the 'behind the scenes' Steve Doocy we watch every morning on Fox & Friends. If nothing else, we now know the greatness behind Steve's success (in addition to his hard work and humor): his family! This is a must read - once you start, you will find yourself soaking in pages at a fast pace while reflecting on the quirks and laughs supplied by your own family. Thank you Steve and THANK YOU Doocy family! Erika Grace Tampa, Florida (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-18 03:22:21 EST)

Ok, I just had to have this book for my dad. I had heard so much about it and waited for the day for it to come out.The day it was released I rushed out to get it, and once I got home I set down to give it a once over before handing it over to my dad, my hero.I could not put it down. It made me laugh, cry, yes I cried. It brought back memories I have shared with my dad. It was entertaining, and each page was better than the last. Before I knew it time had passed and dinner had not been made, but I had finished Tales from the Dad's Side. I loved it! It touched my heart and once I started reading I just could not put it down. Now my husband is reading it and enjoying it as much, if not more than me. As for my dad, I will be heading back to the store to purchase him his own copy. Thumbs up is all I can say. And if you are looking for a good read, pick a copy or two up. Because even though you think it is for the men in your life, you will end up like me and keeping it for yourself.

Steve's quick wit and humor had me laughing out loud more than a few times. Like most books, I planned to take a week or so and go a few chapters at a time... Not this one. I read Dad Side in one weekend--a spree untouched since my law school days.
Though I'm not a dad yet, the stories are funny, entertaining, and human. I gave a copy to my father who read it just as quickly. As a dad (obviously...) he was able to relate to the "misadventures" of raising kids and enjoy the book on a deeper level. We've both since ordered a few more copies as Christmas gifts. Pick up Dad Side for yourself or as a gift--father or not. Great read. I promise, Doocy won't disappoint! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-13 00:42:40 EST)

Steve is a great story teller and just an average dad. He's a man that loves and defends his family, even to his own embarassment! (How many dads will go to the salon with his girls?)
The most touching stories of his book were about his father. Calling his own dad a legend and honoring him with a trip were stories that brought tears to my eyes. This book was a fun, easy enjoyable read. Any dad will love the stories and will probably nod in agreement at the stories Steve tells. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-10 12:16:46 EST)

As a mom I hesitated to get this book figuring it was more a "Dad's" book. However, having read "Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook" (also by Steve Doocy), I knew that I would like "Tales from the Dad Side". That's an understatement - I loved it! Every turn of the page brought back memories of my own childhood with my dad or memories of my own children. "Tales from the Dad Side" brings you into Steve's childhood and his family life now with his wife and three children. You'll laugh your way through each page as you become one of the family and you will gain a GREAT respect for his wife, Kathy! Steve's humor is felt throughout the book as well as his intense love for his family. This is truly a MUST READ for everyone! I thank Steve Doocy for writing this book...it was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me.

Not since Cosby has someone given such a familiar and humorous look at the role of a dad!
Anyone who has read Doocy's debut book, (Mr. & Mrs. Happy Handbook), or if you're a fan of his whacky sense of humor as co-host of FNC's Fox & Friends, you will know exactly what to expect with "Tales from the Dad Side" - a fun look at real life! This book is a great reminder of the best part of fatherhood; the smiles. From covering his initial meeting with his wife, (a childhood actress and the original "Chatty Cathy", by the way), Kathy to the birth of his first born, Steve Doocy finds himself caught in the challenges of being a good father, (right down to getting manicures with his daughters ... shudder). We can all find a bit of ourselves in the Doocy family. Funny and familiar, most all of us can share a laugh with Doocy and perhaps find more humor in our own lives. As a fellow author of the same genre, I really enjoy humorous, true-life tales and Doocy is now at the top of my favorites list! A perfect gift for the father in your life, "Tales from the Dad Side: Misadventures in Fatherhood" is a must read for any dad, (or any mom)! Watching Steve on the morning show Fox and Friends I learned about this fatherhood book. As positive books about fathers are rare as Acorn organizers at a Country Club, I was excited about this book's potential.
I was not disappointed. As a father of five that have now flown the coop, I could certainly relate to most of the tales. Steve wrote this in a very humorous and easy to read flow. I finished it in two readings and have now passed it to a friend of mine. If you enjoy good, clean fun along with that rare positive view of fatherhood, I would recommend this book. If you prefer the dark side and think that all dads are deeply flawed, I "highly" recommend this book. I hope you found this review helpful. Michael L. Steve Doocy is best known as the Emmy Award-winning cohost of Fox & Friends. With the publication of "Tales from the Dad Side: Misadventures in Fatherhood," he may soon be best known as this generations Bill Cosby. For, in the spirit, genre, and style of Cosby, Doocy writes with humor and respect about fathering.
The subtitle should not mislead readers to assume that this is yet another book taking a swipe at the modern-day father as inept and unnecessary. Nothing could be further from the truth. With wit and wisdom, Doocy fills the void on the parenting shelf which all too often caters almost exclusively to mothering (as important as that is). Here we read of one man's attempts to be a father worthy of that name. Reviewer: Robert W. Steve Doocy's new book, Tales From the Dad Side, is a wonderfully written story that made me laugh and cry showing how a real down-to-earth dad, and mother, should raise children--both Steve's parents with him and his siblings, and now Steve and his wife with their children. The influence of a father on his children is so important, so critical, so valuable. The heritage Steve experienced from his parents in his growing up years is being passed on to his children. The examples he is using to teach his children the important values of living will no doubt be passed on by them to their children.
Steve writes, "At our house, dinner runs almost an hour from first bite to last laugh. Every one of the day's high crimes and misdemeanors is rehashed." You'll love reading about those "high crimes and misdemeanors." This is a book every father should read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-24 05:57:54 EST)

Steve Doocy is a very comedic writer about his experiences being a dad. I encourage everyone, even people who do not have children to buy it. It's really fun reading and will make you laugh and learn what is like to raise kids through a father's point of view.. Also he is a great TV personality on the top rated morning show Fox and Friends on the FOX news Channel. I definately give it 5 stars.. I look forward to more books by Mr. Doocy!

Okay, maybe "Father Knows Best" but let's face it, Dad doesn't always get it right. In this hilarious new book from TV broadcaster Steve Doocy, we're up close and personal when Dad swings and misses ---- just like most of us do during our dad years. Oops, Dad just whiffed one.
Sounds like real life! No worries --- this is not a "blame the dad" book --- just a funny, often wise, well-written look at life in the Dad Zone. You'll laugh a lot and sometimes you'll be laughing at yourself: go ahead and admit it, you've lived this stuff, you just didn't put it on the record. Doocy's best book so far: buy it and enjoy!
