This was a wonderful book - I got it in a timely fashion, it was brand new as stated, and exactly what I had ordered. The book was amazing, containing more wonderful information that I had even imagined. I am thrilled with it - worth every penny!

Jenny is right, vaccines are not safe for everybody - WHY NOT FIGHT TO MAKE THEM GREEN? There's nothing wrong with the book for educated parents. If you have a child with Autism, like I do, you'll try ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to help them.
Here are some vaccine ingredients just to gross you out - DTaP three germ toxoid components saline 2-phenoxyethanol (alcohol used as preservative) aluminum formalehyde Hep - B (what they want you to give your newborn Hep B surface antigen Aluminum saline yeast protein formaldehyde Rotavirus 5 live viruses sucrose sodium citrate, phosphate, and hydroxide polysorbate 80 cell culture media traces of FETAL COW BLOOD MMR (my personal favorite) three live, attenuated viruses saline, sugars, gelatin human blood proteins residual cow fetus serum neomycin (what is in neosporin - not supposed to be injected) traces of chick embryo proteins "other buffers and media ingredients" Chicken pox vax has MSG - no kidding shoot em up eh? This is a book I could not put down. I am passing it around to therapists, parents, grandparents and teachers of autistic children who are not yet convinced that the diet might be beneficial. It is easier for some of us to read because there are less four letter words. I totally understand that they are a gut response and may be the only means of expressing the feeling at the time. But I believe it packs more punch to use better English and let me read between the lines. I thought Jenny's style in this book was much more accomplished and polished and she is fulfilling the commission that she was born to do.

I was let down by this book. For the first half of the book, I enjoyed the stories Jenny shares about herself and other mothers of autistic children. It was informative and touched my heart by the challenges these parents were facing. I never knew about the degree of immune system issues autistic kids tend to battle and hearing some of the methods to treat those issues was great. Jenny refers to it as healing autism, but it isn't healing autism. The methods simply treat those issues and some heal the health concerns, but not the autism. Having their health improve allowed for fewer regressions and more skill advances, but the autism is still there. But after these first few stories, the book's appeal and common sense started deteriorating.
It is not a secret that Jenny does not like vaccinations, but she eventually starts blaming them for autism. There were no facts for this accusation. While she mentions many pediatricians ignorings autistic kids' physical health issues, she goes on to ignore their factor in the immunization process. Most of her stories include kids who had compromised immune systems and were getting vaccinated at the same rate as a healthy child. She also denies the potential genetic links in families that can lead to autism, but she does include comments from other family members about how they have those recessive health issues. The fact that she denounces other scientists but is infuriated by them doing the same to her beliefs is frustrating. Both have valid points, but you wouldn't know that from this book. I was disheartened by the way many of these people spoke about mourning their children. Many of them talk about how they had to mourn their child once he/she was diagnosed with autism. Mourning the loss of a traditionally healthy child is one thing, but these people talk about how they won't accept anything but their child "returning" to them as happy and healthy. My impression was that these people were so focused on ridding their child of the diagnosis that they were ignoring who their children are, including being autistic. I've never look at autism as such a horrible thing until these people spoke about how awful it was to look at their kid knowing. My cousin is autistic and I would never have thought of him any differently than him having a learning disability. Something he has to deal with, but not something that is death sentence as these parents treat it. Autism is not something to be ashamed of, but I didn't get that impression from these stories at all. I found this book very hard to read by the end. I was so angry at her comments on the ignorance of certain scientists and how they weren't listening to her scientists. But she also goes on about how her scientists from DAN! know more than any other drs when it comes to autism. She never seems to consider that it could be a little from column A and a little from column B. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-18 04:13:25 EST)

I thought after 6 years of gluten-free diet, bio med treatments, I'd done all I could do for my now 8 year old son. He is still autistic, though he is learning to read, advancing academically, etc. But Jenny has inspired me to redo some of his tests and seek diet, medical and supplement changes that may help. Every mother of a child with autism--whatever their age--should read this book.
That is why I was upset by the ill-informed negative (1 star) "customer review" and I think it should be removed. This review is harmful if it steers even one parent away from this book. It contains outright lies and only ironically confirms the petty politics Jenny describes within PART of the autism community. While warrior mothers are seeking recovery/improvements with the guidance of DAN! doctors the "reviewer" states the obvious: bio-med treatments do not work for ALL children (something Jenny also acknowledges!) ...but when so many find success, it is worth a look! Autism has a set of about 100 different SYMPTOMS, many medical issues far beyond behavior/language/social deficits...it is a complicated medical disorder. No one has every single symptom, and two kids are exactly alike or have exact same set of symptoms, though most toddlers share SOME common traits and patterns of regression...as Jenny heartbreakingly describes. (But tell me: what drug is 100 percent effective on 100 percent of the population, 100 percent of the time on any complicated medical disorder? Does reviewer think science dismisses all the medicines/treatments that only work for SOME?! Did you know, as the author of "How Doctors Think" reports, that the medical community at large has only has slightly better than a 50 percent "success" level? Doctors are only human. They misdiagnos. And many cancer treatments actually do more harm than good, but they give the patient a CHANCE, if he chooses to take it. ...likewise Jenny describes well the parent fear, dangers of regression with chealation, etc. Parents aren't going to rush off and try to do this on their own. Another irony is that the negative "reviewer" spreads false accusation about McCarthy having financial conflicts of interest when it is the VACCINE providers (and scientists who run their "studies") who clearly have huge financial incentive not to curtail the madness of one-size-fits all vaccine schedules. It is for MONETARY reasons they refuse to remove toxic "preservatives" like thirmerosal that KILLED animals when they tried to test it on them. Mothers should be free from pressure by pediatricans most of whom have not done a fraction of the research we've done to weigh the risk/benefits of each individual disease BEFORE subjecting our children to multiple shots that--because of underlying weakness in their immune system-- may leave them with autism &/or seizure disorder, allergies, asthma and other autoimmune disorders. The very real possibility of triggering these conditions should be weighed against possibility of contracting the diseases. The truth is, Jenny makes a wonderful case that number one inspires all mothers who know our kids best not to back down. We are connecting of the dots. We are not crazy. We are not stupid and we are not going away. We know what we saw and what we lost in our kids. The consensus is this: autism occurs when a perfect storm of weakened immune system, genetics, and overzealous dedication to CDC "recommended" vaccine "schedule" --complete with all the environmental toxins out there, plus shots (mercury, aluminum, anti-freeze etc) and disease agents they contain. And, as Jenny and her doctor point out, it is not just autism that is rising alarmingly. Vaccines (and other environmental toxins!) are triggering all sorts of immune response and neurological problems: allergies, fever, rash, fogginess, seizures, food intolerances, intestinal discomfort, viruses, etc. etc. Have you read the WARNING LABELS on what can happen with the flu shot, to take just one example (seizures, death) Give me and my child the flu ANYDAY. No book can tell the entire story, or have a bibliography that contains every source. These are spurious criticisms. If you have a child with autism, PLEASE pick up this book and read it anyway. You will be inspired to continue to seek help for your child. Thank you Jenny for not hiding your recovering son away from the spotlight. You are helping us all. This book is already one of the classics of the autism world. Thousands of children are recovering, and getting their stories out has not been easy. Seeing parents move mountains to get the help for their children that they need is inspiring. The stories form parents like these have been my inspiration and now my son is nearly recovered- THANK YOU!!! He would never be where he is today if I had waited for conventional doctors to start looking at the evidence themselves. Parents have been pretty much left to themselves to heal their children and this book lets some of them tell about their journey. It truly is an autism "must read".

The vignettes in this book are interesting but too brief. They give the highlights of each parent's experience but don't go into enough detail to provide guidance for other parents. I would like to see a "how-to" book on understanding and navigating biomedical and other treatment options for autism spectrum disorders. That being said, it does give hope that children with ASD can be treated and can recover.

The idea that vaccines should be avoided is a recipe for public health disaster with zero science behind it, despite the false claims and bad science spouted by Jenny and her ignorant followers. If you follow her vaccine advice, you do so at the peril of your children. They deserve the benefit of the best science can offer, not pseudoscience from some dopey, uneducated celebrity.

This is a wonderful book. I also read her Louder than Words book. She does an excellent job of explaining what parents go through with an autistic child and letting them know it can be healed! As a mother of a son with Asbergers, it is so comforting to know that there are individuals like Jenny who are fighting for necessary changes in the medical community regarding biomedical interventions. Thank you Jenny! Read it, you won't be disappointed.

Great, inspiring book! Unlike the first book, 'Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism' this book isn't filled with lots of facts and information, (read the first book for this). 'Mother Warriors' is mostly filled with stories from moms that helped their Autistic children get better. Story after story of how different treatments helped their children recover from Autism. Very touching and hopeful.

Read the book last weekend. Jenny is not a particularly good writer, but her stories about going on TV to talk about autism and vaccines were absolutely worth reading. The parents' stories in the rest of the book are shocking. The descent after vaccines was obvious, but the doctors were oblivious. The children were seriously, physically, ill, but the regular doctors were saying stuff like: "autistic children just have those problems." And the final story in the book is heartbreaking. Here is a child who has a major reaction after the 2 month vaccines, is even hospitalized, and the doctors insist that it is safe and necessary to keep on giving the vaccines. Individuals matter. Sickness is sickness, whether it results from a drug or from a disease. The denial of problems with vaccination has got to end. Disclaimers: I do not have a child with autism. I am almost totally unvaccinated, did selective and very much delayed vaccination with my child and my grandchildren (both healthy) are now following the same path.

I purchased this on audio book CD, in which I highly recommend!!!!
It was very well done on audio. I have never purchased ANY of McCarthy's books before, and all I have to say is 'I didn't realize that she is my hero.' This book is GREAT, EXCELLENT, SUPERB !!!! I Still recommend the audio book CD, ...although, I eventually did purchase the book, simply for written reference. But the audio was superbly done. It is a keeper !!!! I am mom on a mission, if you are,too ....Get it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-31 01:56:45 EST)

Jenny Mccarthy is using her celebrity to sell dangerous information and false hope. She doesn't include stories of parents who have chased down every so-called treatment or cure only to have their bank accounts drained and hopes dashed. I would like her to explain why these doctors and pharmacuetical companies are discriminating against boys. The current ratio of boys diagnosed with ASD to girls is 4-1. Why are they picking on boys and only some girls. I would like her to explain why both of my sons have it, my nephew has it, and three of my cousins have boys with it. No girls in our family have it, thank goodness. I am very happy for the girls. I need to spend my energy fighting for training for my sons' teachers. They don't have time to wait for the "cure".

I really enjoyed this book! Jenny REALLY gets us parents. Reading inpiring stories about what other parents are going through is what pushes us to be better. I am thankful that is what Jenny is doing here.
I have a child who is a teenager with autism. Although I had dabbled in biomedical over the years, after reading her previous book "Louder than Words", I got our child a DAN! doctor. My child is making amazing progress and the testing ALONE that we had done would have changed our childs' life years ago had it been done. It is so tragic that medical doctors are not trained to look for deficiencies or overages. The moms in the book are among the thousands that I read about daily on my groups. I was moved to tears reading about the mom who lost her child! It is tragic what is going on in our wonderful country. Our country is supposed to be a leader in the world with medicine! This is just another reason to not keep quiet about the awful side affects of toxic material being injected in our babies. I attribute my childs autism to a mercury filling that cracked before getting pregnant + the RhoGam shot. My child came out with all the signs of autism. I had never met anyone years ago with autism nor did I know the signs. I just kept telling everyone that something was wrong and NOONE would listen to me. MOMS know! I commend Jenny for going forth and bringing this to the light. I will continue to encourage others to read her books. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-30 01:55:53 EST)

This book was so amazing from start to finish. It was a quick 2 day read for me and I cried over and over but it really gave me inspiration to always fight for what i know my children may need. Your kids dont need to have autism for you to be a mother warrior and I learned that from this book. One person can stand up and make a difference.

I actually started reading it in the early afternoon and couldn't put it down until I went to bed. By then, I was done with the book. I cannot recommend it enough being a victim of vaccine injury myself. My two children were also victims. I have been healed of my injury in recent weeks (hearing loss due to a rubella vaccine in Feb 07) and my children are on the road to recovery too!! Buy the book!! Vaccines are the true nightmare - not these diseases.

Mothers must be so desparate to look to an uneducated ex-Playboy bunny for advice to heal their sick child. Your better off spending the time and money with Doctors and Therapists that are educated and trained to help you.

I am so grateful for this book. It's finally getting the truth out there about vaccines and autism. We have recovered our son from autism. We've gone through hell and back - but it has all been worth it. The diet, the supplements, the therapy - it WORKS. Our son has gone from living in his silent, obsessive world to being a real kid (who talks and has friends!). Anyone with children or of childbearing age needs to read this book! The information is out there, you just have to find it yourself.

Jenny has done it again with Mother Warriors. Like her last book, Louder than Words, she uses humor, motherly insight and pure love for her child to explain the feelings and emotions that parents and care givers go through when they are helping to recover a child diagnosed with autism. Mother Warriors highlights several mothers and Stan, who are amazing individuals that decided to let nothing stand in their way of doing everything they could to help their children. Yes the "F" word does show up in this book as well, which was a criticism of her last book, but Jenny is real, the people in this book are real, and autistic recovery is real, so you cannot blame people for voicing their disgust with the system in a real way. In the beginning it is easy for parents to feel alone and in the dark; Mother Warriors will help families to be courageous and will encourage people to take the necessary steps towards recovery. My only concern with the book is that with all the examples Jenny presents, there is a direct connection between the child developing autistic symptoms and an almost immediate reaction with the vaccine given. Although this is extremely common, autism does not always present this way. Sometimes there is a slow regression and the trigger or final factor is never known. It would be unfortunate if, after reading Mother Warriors, a parent might think that because their child did not progress the same way as the children in this book, that biomedical intervention wouldn't be beneficial or helpful to them. I truly believe that Mother Warriors is a book that every mother should read. Whether you have a child on the autistic spectrum or not, "Mother Warriors" will help the reader understand what parents of these beautiful children endure to recover.

I know there are those who view these ideas (the ideas of all mothers of children adversely affected by vaccines) as "dangerous", but most doctors spend all of about thirty minutes studying autism in medical school. Their training has gone something like this, "Well, we don't know what causes it and it can't be cured, and the moms and dads who say it's vaccines are crazy." Then they move on to something else.
I walked into a doctor's office on March 7, 2001, with a perfectly normal fifteen-month old. I told his pediatrician I did not want him to receive any more Prevnar because it contained thimerosal. I did not want him to have any more thimerosal-containing vaccines. She turned on me, and then said she'd be right back. Before I signed the "consent" form I demanded to know everything. I was lied to. They gave my son four vaccines, told me giving this many was perfectly safe, but lied about the contents. Three contained thimerosal, giving my son 200 times the mercury in a single day his little body should have been exposed to. From that moment he was never the same. He would not talk again for over three years. He had difficulty sleeping, threw horrendous tantrums etc... It affected his immune system and he began to suffer chronic asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. He would have daily staring spells akin to catatonia. Today, thanks to biomedical intervention, he is high-functioning. His body still has a messed up biochemistry, and he is still mercury toxic, but the journey and this warrior mom and dad will persevere for as long as it takes. I have NO DOUBT as to what damaged my child. I also know that any industry who is faced with the realization that it has poisoned a whole generation of children will drag its feet as long as it can in taking responsibility for what it has done. A pediatric neurologist diagnosed our son with "heavy metal intoxication" when he was two years old. He said to my husband and I, "Gee, I'm so sorry. I thought they took that stuff out of vaccines. But you've just got to understand, by mass-vaccinating, we are saving so many, but there are going to be losses. Your son is one of them and you just need to go home and accept it." Tell me...could you just "accept it" if it were your beloved child? Parents have a right to know that the current vaccine program plays Russian roulette with their children's bodies and minds. I think time will prove that there is the same danger in over-vaccinating as there is in the over use of antibiotics. I salute Jenny for all she has done and continues to do for our children. We moms are all sisters of circumstance. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-17 02:05:57 EST)

I am the mother of an autistic child and am extremely tired of people recommending her books to me. I have great respect and empathy for what she went through with her son but I think it is dangerous and irresponsible for her to be our spokesperson. Saying she has "cured" her son is somewhat like rich people driving through a poor neighborhood just to laugh at them. Every autism case is unique and there are many kids who nothing helps them. Her claims are the "autism cure" of the moment. Every decade there is a new one. Only one therapy is absolutely proven....ABA therapy. Remember that, parents!

Yes, I'm what she described on her book a Mother Warrior. We're trying to recorver our son from Autism even though the Drs. that diagnosed him told us that we just have to deal with it because there's not cure for a syndrome. I first learned about Jenny McCarter's Autistic son the next day I got my son's diagnosis. I was devastared & sad & I just turned on the TV. She was there on Oprah telling people that Autism can be healed. What??? I just heard from a group of highly impresive Drs. a day before that It couldn't be done. So, I just told to myself if a playboy girl could do it, it would be a piece of case for me. I have to tell you guys that I'm an Engineer w/2 master degrees. Well, I really respect what Jenny did at this point of my fight w/Autism. She really earned her degree in Autism even though it was through the Google Univerty. I'm so glad that she came out to tell everyone what it's happening. Since that day I have been researching about it. & yes!!! It look like at this point I already earned a Master degree in Autism as well. For those who talk so badly of Jenny McCarthy, let me tell you Guys that Autism treatment is extremaly expensive & most insurance companies don't cover it. If Jenny M. is reciving money from Kirkman Laboratory, so good for her. She's a single Mother who needs to pay for her son's treatment. I actually took he recomendation & ordered super vitamins from this lab, & guess what??? they actually work. My son is improving day by day...
The controversy about associate vaccination w/Autism isn't clear yet. What I have found so far it's that most Drs. aren't sure what it's going on. My son's regular pediatrician is learning about Autism treatment through myself. So far, I was the person who explained her about the DAN! Drs & their treatment. She's always calling me to asking me about new therapies, the gluten & caseine diet, etc. What I know about vaccination is that DAN! Drs. aren't telling people not to vaccine their child. They just recommend to do it safely. How??? well, making sure that the shot you child is recieving doesn't contain Mercury & changing the schedule of vaccination, just one at the time... I just wish I would had known about it when my son were just a baby. It may had been a different experience. Instead of large sections of Occupational, ABA & Speech therapies, it would have been Gymbore class. Any way, I just wanted to recommend this book. I didn't give her 5 starts because she sometime goes around her life as a celebrity, so I skip this sentences & continue what it's really important to me the Autism issue... It's she (Jenny McCathy) making a living on Autism. So? Good for her. This's America everything's about money, if not, ask yourself why does the goverment have passed the Autism insurance law nationally??? (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-12 02:00:32 EST)

We have an 11 year old autistic son and we recommend this book. It gives HOPE and INFORMATION. There are stories of recovery and there's a resource list to help us do all we can for our children. Parents of autistic kids aren't just listening to the physicians anymore--we are listening to each other, too. Autism is a diagnosis that includes many TREATABLE symptoms, and these kids' lives are being improved by biomedical interventions. Our son has benefitted from a special diet, vitamin supplements, and chelation. If you have a kid in your family who is autistic, read this book.

Because of Jenny's Books (which I only read in the last week) I have hope again for my Autistic Son. 3 months ago I saw Jenny McCarthy in a magazine for a Generation Rescue Benefit. I then went to the website, saw the information, found a DAN doctor and have started testing & supplements etc. While it may not make sense to the medical community at large the biomedical approaches have had wonderful success in reversing Autism. I thought my 10 year old son would never improve because thats what the medical community had instilled in me that Autism is not reversible. Bottom line period...nothing can be done.... However, after seeing Jenny, reading her books as well as other biomedical doctors, and hours of research on the internet I started to have hope. Now of course I am only a few months into this BUT my son IS TALKING MORE. Full sentences, better eye contact, bathroom smells & bowel movements already improved in such a short time! I am not expecting miracles but to have a child "improve" even slightly is worth everything as a parent. Kudos to Jenny McCarthy, and the Biomedical doctors, parents, reseachers, and anyone else out there who is bringing hope to MILLIONS of parents with Autistic children. After 10 years of losing hope I have found myself reborn and can only hope that everyone embraces the idea without past prejudice that maybe just maybe there really is something going on here with these kids. If you know anyone who has Autism read this book, and start to hope again.

I can not put this book down. It is amazing what you can do for your children by just your gut feeling whats wrong with them.(and of course lots of research) My son is doing so much better after the treatment like changeing his diet, B-12 shots and some supplements he was lacking. His Dr never even mentioned them or new about them. His exzema is gone he is happy and in school all day! I thank Jenny for being so bold and fighting against opposition. Thank you! Susanne

The sheer ignorance of science and medicine that is CELEBRATED in this book is extremely frightening and dangerous for the health of America. To all of you who refuse to vaccinate your children -- your arrogance and ignorance is putting all of our children at risk! Just witness the recent rise in measles and mumps.
Folks, we are living in the middle ages. "Mommy knowledge" does not trump science and medicine. Jenny has done a tremendous disservice to the country, and too her child, by supporting the quacks who mouth the anti-vaccination line. Please, do not support her ignorance by buying this book. This was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who is a part of the autism community. The book begins with a brief description of Evan's descent into autism. This is followed by a description of Jenny's experiences during her book tour. She has a wonderful interview with Oprah, a horrible interaction with Barbra Walters prior to her interview, and has a phone conversation with someone from the American Academy of Pediatrics where they agree to come to a think tank meeting.
The best part of the book is the stories told by parents whose children have recovered. There are several and it gives you hope that more children can be saved. It also repeatedly shows that mainstream doctors and pediatricians know absolutely nothing about biomedical intervention. The focus of the recovery stories is biomedical intervention such as the GF/CF diet, hyperbaric oxygen, methyl B12 and the DAN! protocol. She was right that the chapter about Stan Kurtz requires a highlighter, as he is quite the researcher and has many interesting things to share. She includes the stories of a couple of high profile people like the founder of TACA, and the daughter of the founders of the controversial Autism Speaks that spends all of its money on genetics research. I have read more autism books than I can remember, but this is one I will keep on my shelf, and refer back to. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-08 01:09:45 EST)

This was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who is a part of the autism community. The only thing I didn't like about this book is there is no index, which I absolutely hate. So when I wanted to find something like the Autism Speaks chapter I mention below, I had to flip through each chapter instead of being able to find it quickly with an index. Other than that it is a great and inspring book.

I continue to be sickened by the fact that the monsters who make these vaccines and the doctors who administer them can sleep at night. They know what they are doing. We know what they are doing to our babies.....they are living with it and we are living with it. It's torture for them and yet it all continues........day after day after day, baby after baby after baby. My baby. I am sick that heads are turned so easily. Movies show people making millions of dollars in lawsuits from contaminated drinking water in Hinkley....but noone will take responsibility for maming our babies when we have the living proof in thousands of children. Thank you Jenny for writing yet another amazing book. You are eloquent in recognizing and communicating vaccines are needed, yet you are telling it like it is. You are inspiring once again for me and my family. I hope you continue the challenge and you don't grow too weary over the years. This is a tough and rigorous journey you are paving. We will stand behind you when asked to. We need you, the babies need you and your voice for us all who have never been heard. For those of you wondering if you should read this book or not....do yourself a favor and purchase it. You will read it in a day and you will forever be changed. If you happen to have a child in your life with Autism, that child just may be forever changed as well... for the better. You will be inspired and blown away.

I just wanted to say that I too am a Warrior Mother. I have been doing biomedical treatment for PDD.NOS with my son for 6 years. He is doing amazing! Not because of my pediatrician, but because I picked up books that mothers have written to help guide me to heal my child through diets, supplements and detoxification. I can't believe that most doctors are not on board with this yet. What is taking them so long? Maybe they should read books written by mothers rather than the AAP or CCD, which have a different agenda apparently. Thank you Jenny for doing the work that I have wanted to do for sooo long. I guess I knew I had to wait for you to come along and do it right. You are speaking loudly, I just hope people open up their ears to listen.

I just finished reading this wonderful book. I found each story very inspiring. I also appreciated Jenny's honesty on her side of the story regarding what it was like dealing with the media during interviews from her previous book, "louder than words". Jenny is the ultimate Mother Warrior for her son, Evan. This is a must read for anyone who has fought for a child with special needs.

Although I wish it weren't, this book is nothing but misinformation and false hope. To me, it borders on criminal. Any Doctor spreading this kind of unsupported propaganda should loose his license for disseminating false information. Parents and relatives of persons with autism have a hard enough struggle without the insertion of wild claims and pseudoscience "muddying the waters". I'm not going to make too lengthy a comment; the "believers" out there are going to reply and tell me i'm in the pocket of "Big Pharma" or something along those lines, and the people out there with a brain will do their own research. Don't listen to the 'doctors' on here who say these treatments are bogus (no, it's not all about chelation - read the book). They're like the doctors who told me I was basically an idiot for trying the DAN protocol on my son at age 3, I was being conned, there was no cure, I should just treat the symptoms. Now they have to dig through his medical file to read up on what was wrong with him before, because he is RECOVERED.
This isn't all about vaccines, thimerosol, or any other 'one' thing, it is that SOME children have unique systems that cannot handle high levels of toxins. The epidemic continues because of other toxins - pesticides, cleaning agents, etc. But that doesn't mean the mercury was not involved - because it was. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, end of story. These kids' brains and nervous systems have been damaged - when and if your child has autism, if you REALLY love your child, you will try everything, including these treatments, and hopefully see the improvement that I have. If not, then at least you won't wonder - and THEN you can criticize - but I dare you to try it and not see improvement or at least meet other parents going through the treatment who have. Nothing cures everything, but why not take the small risk to find out? Then maybe you won't steer good parents away from a possibly miraculous, life-changing treatment. It's worth a try to give your child a normal life - actually an extraordinary life. Praise God that people like Jenny are starting to drown out these 'doctors' who thing they know everything about modern science because they went to medical school. I'm sure they were taught nothing about these treatments. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-05 01:31:31 EST)

I never considered myself to be a "Mother Warrior" just a Mom on a mission. My mission began fourteen years ago, before the internet explosion, before we had a way of finding each other, before autism was a common everyday word. My son was born in 1992 and like all good Mothers, I did what was required of me, I vaccinated him on the CDC's recommended schedule. For a time, everything seemed normal, he would get very sick after each set of vaccines, but all childern do...right? Then odd things started to happen, he had been able to sit up and pull up, but the 'forgot' how. Then he got confused about creeping and seemed unsure of how to use his hands. I was told he was "so busy doing other things" that he was behind in one area advanced in another. That other area was speech. He was an early talker, one who at his first birthday could point to our cat outside and say "Kitty cat...MMMMEEOOWWW". He also knew other animals, the sounds they made. At thirteen months everything was "What's that Mommy?" he was so eager to learn. Yet, he was still stumbling with gross motor skills while pointing while using fine motor control rather well.
At his 15 months shots I ask if it was a good idea to give him shot when we didn't know what was causing his loss of physical skills. I was told that it was safer to vax than not. WRONG! He had a massive seizure soon after. With in weeks he was loosing weight, had developed rashes that left open places on his body, his hair fell out in clumps, he had violent diarrhea so acid it ate holes in his cloth diapers. He screamed and cried. When he was normal, he was normal and talked and played, when he was lost and gone, he was glassy eyed, deaf, and rocked and hummed. Over time, the lost spells happened more and more often and for longer and longer periods of time. He stopped gaining new words, he seemed to freeze in development. Soon after he turned two, he went into a head first dive of loss of all acquired skills. His speech went from "Mommy there is Thomas the TANK!" to "Thomas the Tank" to "Thomas" to a garbled jumble of unrecognizable letters to a buzzing sound...to nothing ... no sound at all. He grew limp and lifeless, he seizured every single day and it ended in vomiting what little food he had been able to get down. He was dying....and we were told that very thing on his third birthday. We were also given no hope, no reason for this oddity, no way to help him. We were told how to get him a wheelchair and help to care for him at home... I started calling children's hospitals all over the country looking for answers. I reread his medical records line by line and looked for clues that the Md's might have missed. I ran my own labs and was shocked to see for myself that he was toxic in several metals, and starving to death. I ask for help over and over to deal with these issues, I was turned away from doctor after doctor. In time I would connect with others with childern like mine, autistic in action, but truly just sick childern. One night several years after the internet was born, I found Dr. Jerry Kartzinel on line and I finally talked to someone who understood, because he was standing in my shoes with his own son. My son was now eight and hanging on to life... The DAN! was still a new thing few people had heard of...mercury poison was slowly making the news... What I learned, was that my son is and was vaccine damaged. I have even been told that by a vaccine giving MD who told me to "put him in a home and get on with your life." What I have fought to do, is recover my son to the best of our ability. With the help of bio-med all the other therapies we were trying without success, began to work better. Today John is sixteen. No, he is not a recovered child. He is, however, a bright happy teen, with a killer smile, eye contact, and a good out look on life. He is unable to make even one sound...I credit that to three strokes in five years. He is gfcf and will not touch other foods, he knows how they effect him, and he does not want to be sick or spacey from eating something that hurts him. He has passed a ton of metals thanks to chelation and we have killed off old virals that caused issues as well. What he still struggles with is physical skills, he is mildly cerebral palsy. I am a rescue angel not because I recovered my son and got the big miracle, but because we didn't get that recovery. I work today and everyday with families new and some old to this, to give them the information that was not there for us all those years ago. I have seen childern recover and go on to a normal typical life, and I am so proud of them. I am so thankful that I got to be in on rescuing others from a life of disability. For years I have been screaming at the top of my lungs about vaccine damage, and how to help your child....few heard me, for I am nobody, I cannot reach the masses, and I knew it would take this happening to someone with power to reach so many families in need. I thank you Jenny, from the bottom of my heart for being willing to go public and take the heat for all of us little people that have been screaming in the dark for so long. You didn't have to put your son out there, you could be home living the normal Mom life, but you chose to go public. Thank you. Thank you for taking that stand, for everytime you do, you stand up for John, and you tell his story. You have changed how people look at him in the grocery store and how they talk to me. You have opened doors for others. This book is a MUST HAVE for any parent on the quest to save your child, no matter what the issue, autism, or other disorder. Strength to carry on comes from knowing others have walked in your shoes, down your path. This book is that strength, that pair of shoes and that path. For the people who slam Jenny, Generation Rescue, and our stand for safe vaccines, God be with you. I hope you never have to loose your child the way I lost mine. I hope you never hold a child and watch them turn blue during a seizure and find yourself knowing that life is now hanging by a thread. Everyday of my life I love and enjoy John, but everyday of his life, I know, I did this to him...the guilt is a weight I never want any other parent to carry. Cheryl Bailey... As the father of one child who has been prevented from getting autism, and another whom I'm desperately struggling to still recover, Jenny's book comes as a welcome tonic.
What comes through in these well-written stories is the good sense of parents in noting that something has gone wrong with their children shortly after a vaccination, and their courage and tenacity in trying to find an answer. As a member of this community I know that one of the things we parents tend to do is tell every detail of ours kids' stories and each tale ends up being novel-length. Kudos to your editor, Jenny, for parsing these stories down and retaining their emotional power. I can not thank you enough for writing these stories and being an advocate for this community. Jenny McCarthy is a true Mother Warrior. She dares to take on the Vaccine industry along with the Academy of Pediatric Physicians. This book gives insight into just how difficult and close minded the medical society can be ,especially in admitting that it is the vaccines that took down our children. No matter if it was the thimerasol or the live virus-it is happening again and again. How many more will have to suffer and die before they get up off their butts and dare to learn something new-How to treat our kids with diet, biomedical interventions and alternative therapies? She not only updates us on her son, Evan's journey , but we get to hear from other Mother Warriors and the journey their children took to recover them from autism.
This book references many important resources that will be beneficial to someone starting the journey of recovery for their child or someone already on the journey. This book will make you laugh, cry, think and reconsider how much we can really trust the CDC/FDA. Think about all the drugs that have been discontinued due to deaths and injury because they deemed a medication safe...(Phen/Phen, Vioxx, Digitek, just to name a few..Well, we ask that vaccines be made safe...there is no safe level of mercury(thimerasol)poison is poison period. There is no good reason why a child should get more than 1 vaccine a visit. Excuse me, but as a child I had the measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox and guess what I lived and I am a health care professional. Please anyone that wants to know what it is like to have a child go into autism and the fight the brave Moms and Dads endure to recover their child -Buy this book---I can't wait until her next book comes out! Also read "Louder Than Words." Another great reference book-The time to act is now----Make vaccines safe or do not make them at all--- (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-05 01:31:31 EST)

Thank you Jenny. My son is recovering as well. Today my son is in a mainstream class room! My son has friends that he plays with at school. Today my sons teacher said she is no longer worried about his behavior and his academics are fine. We started with our DAN! 4-16-08. (Yes Biomedical we are healing his body from a vaccine injury.) Jenny's book will lead more children into recovery and this is truly a gift from God. Keep it up Jenny I could never thank you enough!!!!!

8 of 15 people found the following review helpful: 1.0 out of 5 stars From Someone with a Background in Neurobiology, October 1, 2008 As someone with a degree in neuroscience, I can say with all certainty that McCarthy's arguments are ridiculous. For one, numerous studies have been conducted that show that vaccines ARE NOT a cause of autism. Rather, the "regression" to which she refers often occurs over a parallel time course with a pediatric vaccination schedule. Her argument that the biomedical field is conspiring to keep vaccinations unsafe is also unfounded. Children that do not receive vaccinations are at a substantially increased risk to develop diseases that potentially fatal. I doubt that Ms. McCarthy has a simple cookbook cure for measles and rubella as well. Finally, the idea that simple adjustments in diet can overcome a condition that is known to be significantly genetic in etiology is also nonsensical. The DNA in each of our cells, and the structures in our brains do not adapt simply in response to a reduction in gluten, etc. At no point has McCarthy supported any of these claims any sort of scientific evidence. The only evidence shown is purely of the purely anecdotal, observable type. It is natural and entirely understandable that parents or family members with an autistic child would be open to anything that may help the condition. Unfortunately, any "miracle" cures, as suggested by McCarthy, have no scientific basis whatsoever. One can choose to take their advice from a former Playboy model, or they can choose to take it from scientists and physicians with years of experience and legitimate scientific evidence to support their theories. There are a number of good academic resources available online, that may help to point you in the right direction. Hopefully, treatments for autism will continue to improve and its pathology will be fully realized in the near future. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-04 01:12:04 EST)
