This book was the first I read when my then two-year-old son was diagnosed with autism in July 2007. I guess I just got lucky and picked this one out at the bookstore. It is the very best place to start as a parent when your child gets an autism diagnosis. It offers both hope and solutions that your child can indeed be healed. My son is now a three year old who is NOT on the autism spectrum any more, he has recovered from autism. DAN! works, and Dr. Bock is as good as it gets.

This is an excellent book, full of hope and practical steps to actually CURE the 4 A's of asthma, autism, allergies, and ADHD. One of the things that immediately pleased me about the book is that Dr. Bock doesn't waste the readers's time with assigning blame, but instead gets right to the point. I think that most people who would pick up this book already know about the correlation between vaccinations and the 4 A's, so we'll take that as a given.
The case studies Dr. Bock uses as examples are moving, but not tear-jerkers, and his narrative of his growth as an epidemiologist and development of his treatments is very interesting. He is very gracious in sharing the credit for the amazing breakthroughs he and other members of the DAN have achieved. The book is so useful and clearly written that I bought a copy for my kids' pediatrician, my La Leche League library, myself, and 2 for my lending library (I'm a Bradley Method birthing instructor). I've reccomended it to several people whose children suffer from these illnesses. It is such an uplifting book, detailing real successes in treating children, rather than the typical disheartened medical shrug of the shoulders that can offer nothing to cure these children. Even if you don't know anyone with any of the 4 A's, you'd enjoy reading this book. Even if you're not a parent, you should read it. Even if you're not trained as a scientist, you can understand it. Buy an extra copy and give it to your library or pediatrician. People need to know there's actually hope for autistic, asthmatic, allergic or ADHD kids! As a pediatric speech-language pathologist, I found this book to be a helpful resource for professionals who work with children with autism and other developmental delays. The author explains biomedical treatments that many parents are interested in pursuing as they look for options and answers for their own children. I will recommend this book to client's parents and other professionals who are searching for additional information.

Wow, this book is amazing. I know that there is much controversy over autism, but as a mother of a child with this type of diagnosis it was wonderful to read a book that takes it from a different perspective. If the treatments used in this book work, then why argue the details. I assumed that this book would be a dry, factual book about the disorders mentioned, but it was captivating. As soon as I read a few pages I was hooked.

This book is exactly what I needed. I have a six almost seven year old son who has been in ABA theraphy at a very good school for over three years. Unfortunatly, the ABA theraphy has helped but not nearly to the extent we were hoping it would. Since he is getting older and approaching (if he hasn't already passed) the age where he can no longer be cured (most things I've read said if you can't cure them by five they are who they are.... I hate those books)we figured we would try something we've been hesistant to do for the last three years.... biomedical treatment.
The thought of pumping my kid with up to 20 or 30 different supplements a day is scarry and something I hoped I wouldn't ever have to do but my son is getting bigger and more difficult to handle with each passing day. We signed up with a company for sound and biomedical but I haven't received the confidience from the person we were going through. It seemed like they were just after our money and pushing all sorts of stuff at us that we weren't ready for. In defense of this I decided I needed to read up a lot more on this biomedical stuff. So I chose this book. It has been a blessing to me to have picked this book. It has helped me realize that there might be hope for my child... if not a full cure.... at least a chance of some improvements. Improvements I haven't seen with ABA by itself. The first half of this book is explaining the enviornmental factors that "could" be causing this epidemic. Some might say there is no epidemic but I do beg to differ. When I was a kid growing up in "kid area" the first time I heard about autism was the movie Rainman. Now, I'm raising my kids in a "non kid area - older area with fewer kids" and I have an autistic son, the people behind us have two on the spectrum and the neighbors next to them have a grandchild on the spectrum and another couple down the street who are raising their ADHD grandchild. It's everywhere and I do believe there are environmenal factors at work. Anyway, this book does an excellent job the first half going through the reasoning of the biomedical approach with wonderful case studies. The second half of this book is a wonderful reference for all the biomedical stuff that you're kids can/will be on. I also liked the fact that the doctor gave results of each of the therapis he mentioned so you have an idea what you're chances that certain things will actually improve your child. I like the fact that he doesn't guarnatee a cure like so many other people/books do. Dr. Brock has written a book that I desperatly needed to read. Right now we are pumping my son with all sorts of supplements and we are seeing some results with it. It's early.... we've only been doing it for a month and a half. I know this is going to help him in some way and this book has helped me get over my fears of the biomedical approach and to give us a chance at helping my son. Thank you Dr. Brock. I will keep this short and to the point. Of the dozen or so books I've read on ADHD, this is by far the most informative and helpful book I've read. I found a DAN doctor and am currently treating my 8-year-old son with following the guidelines in the book. My son is showing slow but noticeable progress. If your child has any of these epidemics, I highly recommend reading this book.

This is an amazing book, you should read this book before you read any others, especially if you really want to understand the entire process behind these disorders.

This book is amazing. All above says all I want to say, but I had to come and say how much I love it. Kudos to Bock & Stauth for putting such hard work into the book.

Autism is at epidemic proportions. In the last 20 years it has grown by 1500%. In addition, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies have also spiked. Dr. Kenneth Bock, Co-Founder and Director of the Rhinebeck Health Center and the Center For Progressive Medicine, published a new book: Healing The New Childhood Epidemics--Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies. Dr. Bock, famous for his treatment of children with autistic spectrum disorders, has made available to the public his Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders. Dr. Bock offers a safe, sensible, affordable solution, research, and an individualized biomedical program. He also explains the correlation between autism and the other metabolic disorders--Allergies, ADHD, and Asthma. Dr. Bock offers hope to parents who struggle with these ongoing problems. "The new epidemics can be defeated. They are epidemics of metabolic dysfunction and toxicity, and they can be overcome by balancing the metabolism, and reversing that toxicity." The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders offers the reader important new information in nutritional therapy, supplementation therapy, detoxification, and medication. Dr. Bock is listed as an resource by Jenny McCarthy in her book, Mother Warriors. There is hope and explanation within Healing the New Childhood Epidemics. 5 Stars (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-03 03:21:21 EST)

I read this book shortly after I suspected my son was autistic. This gave me hope in midst of the hurricane.I still look through the book and learn something new each time. I must admit when I first read it somethings were in Doctors lingo and I didn't understand. Now that we are months into our journey I understand more and more of the book. I recommend it to everyone!

Very, very well written. Dr. Bock understands the anguish from the standpoint of the child and the family and offers reasons and hope for this epidemic. Every pediatrician should read this book.

Bock takes the views of millions of people across America on mandatory immunizations and re-enforces the belief that they cause more harm than good.

I have two children who have been 'diagnosed' with ADHD. The school also suspected that my son has Asperger's Syndrome, a high functioning form of autism. I was desperate to avoid drugging my kids. Dr. Bock explained, in words that a parent could understand, what could be the cause and how I could help. I tried taking my kids off of milk products (not even a casein free diet)and what a difference! My son stayed focused enough to help clean out a garage for THREE hours without any prompting from either of us. My daughter didn't show as dramatic a change, although I can say that her flare-ups of temper and stubborness have decreased. I am sold. His book gives real case studies of children he's helped (and even if he exaggerated or outright lied, it did work for my son), resources for parents looking into helping their children, and other important information. This book sits on my desk, next to the dictionary and the PDR for meds. I would recommend this book WITHOUT hestitation to any parent who needed more information on allergies, asthma, ADHD, and autism. Caution: he doesn't promise a cure, and in fact, clearly states that even with diet modifications, de-toxifying the body and nutritional supplements, some children still require medications. But, if my choices are a casein-free diet and an ADHD med versus anti-anxiety/psychotic meds & ADHD meds, well, that's a no-brainer.

I have purchased a copy of the book "Healing the New Childhool Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies", for each of our four adult children and their families...We have grandchildren with all of the above issues, and find this book to be extremely comprehensive, common sense, and helpful. I highly recommend it.

I saw Dr. Bock speak at the 2008 Autism One conference in Chicago, and literally ran to the book store to get the book. I ended up having to order it online, and it was so worth the wait. This book will make you laugh, and it will make you cry, and more importantly, it will provide hope and tools to parents and health care providers who want to fight the new childhood epidemics. Amazingly well written. Thank you so much Dr. Bock - a true inspiration!

Dr. Bock presents a very interesting theory regarding why we see so much autism, ADHD, and allergies these days. The information presented is vastly different than that presented in my training and my interest in this area has been perked. I plan to set forth to master this knowledge base and see what I think as time passes. In the meantime, I will recommend this book to all my parents. Interestingly enough, I had a parent group of children with dual exceptionalities. This group is now together getting tested and carrying out the recommended steps in the book. Several parents are very impressed with the changes in their children. This is quite promising. I hope others in my field read this book as well. We can then have a healthy and enlightening discussion.

This book is perfect for newly diagnosed children and the steps to take biomedically. I have used it in conjunction with my son's doctor to develop a tailored plan as my son is PDD-NOS. Some of the testing has produced results that have required some changes in diet and allergies that we did not realize our son had. This book is very easy to understand and is highly recommended!

I am so grateful for this book! Last summer I reached a point where I knew I'd have to take my 2 year old's healing out of the hands of traditional medicine because they couldn't offer me a CURE and I was losing my son and my sanity. After reading this book and working with a local naturopathic doctor, I am blown away by all the changes in my son's health, development, and social skills. Each step brought incremental improvements and all those little "good" moments are now the norm. Family, friends and teachers have all been impressed by his progress and I attribute it all to the things I learned from this book.
Recently my 1 year old began developing multiple allergies, but I knew the warning signs from this book and am already seeing improvements as I follow it's guidance. I can't say enough good things about this book - I found it interesting, insightful, and well written. Thank you Dr. Bock! And thank you to all those who are doing research in this revolutionary field (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-05 16:40:49 EST)

My children don't have autism, but have struggled with asthma, gluten and casein sensitivities and nutritional deficiencies causing neurological and many other symptoms. Dietary changes and nutritional supplements to treat underlying deficiencies have resulted in great positive changes in health for myself and my children.
Unlike another reviewer, I loved the case studies!! I found them so interesting that I couldn't put the book down until I finished with that part. I thought the rest of it makes for an excellent resource for anyone wanting to explore biomedical treatment. I would like to see this book in the office of every pediatrician, and anyone else dealing with children affected by ADHD and Autism on a regular basis, like school psychologists. At the very least, it will offer them a foundation of understanding for parents who may be interested in or already using biomedical treatments. Biomedical treatment is here to stay, because it looks for and addresses the root causes, and results in positive changes for so many. Personally, I think we've entered a new age of medicine. Hooray! I can't say enough about this book. It offers hope to helping, if not healing, disorders that previously had been only treated with 'band aid' type solutions. Having children with 3 of the 4 "A" disorders, I was anxious to see what the authors had to say about cause and treatment. I had so many questions and no answers until I read this book. We have started implementing the outlined treatment (with the help of a doctor), and are already clearly on the road to success. The results thus far have not been as dramatic as some of the case studies in the book, but it is quite obvious the pieces are coming together with my childrens treatments. The future is going to be a much brighter and happier place for them.
