| The Truth About Back Pain: A Revolutionary, Individualized Approach to Diagnosing and Healing Back Pain | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
A comprehensive and practical approach to the true causes of back pain-with workable solutions for each.
Chiropractic doctors Todd and Sheldon Sinett have developed a new approach to diagnosing and relieving back pain based on the idea that the causes of back pain come from three distinct influences: structural-actual physical damage; nutritional-an unhealthy diet; and emotional-stress and personal issues that affect health. Instead of resorting to radical therapies or surgical treatments, the Sinetts dispel the many prevalent myths about back pain and propose solutions that use non-invasive physical and easy-to-implement mental techniques. Offering concrete and specific advice ranging from exercises and meal plans to methods for dealing with everyday stress, this book provides all the necessary tools to understand the root causes of back pain and take the appropriate measures for relief. For both sufferers and medical practitioners, The Truth About Back Pain will revolutionize way back pain is treated. |

My answer to back pain used to be 3 extra strength advil and a few days lying down...until I read this book! It's really great and easy to understand. Props to Dr. Sinett for writing such a great and helpful book. I recommend it to everyone I know (well, everyone whose back hurts...which is actually just about everyone I know!)

If you are unable to seek the professional medical care that Dr.Todd Sinett and associates at Midtown Chiropractic Health and Wellness provide there is still reason to celebrate - this book.
Full disclosure - I have been a patient of Dr. T. Sinett for over four years and have benefited tremendously from his three prong approach to uncovering the source of back pain. Prior to being treated by Dr. Sinett's methods, I suffered daily for over 5 years with chronic, yet not diagnosable, back pain. In addition to seeing medical doctors, physical therapists, and massage therapist - I read EVERY book on back pain on the market. None are as clear and concise as Dr. Sinett's slim volume, The Truth About Back Pain. My gratitude for this book is over whelming because I know it will help others wake-up to the true causes of their chronic pain. If you are beating yourself up for having mysterious back pain (or shoulder pain or stomach pain etc.) that keeps you from living the life you know you should be living - this book will begin to reveal to you that the pain is not just in your head. It is real; however, it might not be bending over to pick up the car keys that started it. It might be poor diet or unrecognized emotional stress. Share this book with your chiropractor or current medical profession and see if you can help heal your pain without costly operations or Western pain killers. And, if you do live in NYC - read the book then seek treatment at Dr. Sinett's practice. You don't have to live with back pain. You deserve to be happy and pain free. I'm not going to say this book is the end all be all for back pain...but, it's pretty darn close!! I've dealt with lower back issues for years, and after reading Dr. Sinett's book and following his simple ideas and guidelines, I haven't experienced pain in months. His book is incredibly straight forward and not filled with any "mumbo jumbo"...I recommend anyone with a back issue to buy and read this book!!!

So many doctors and practicioners claim to have the answers to this age old question. Well, it is refreshing to finally have a one-stop resource that actually lives up to what it claims. Dr. Sheldon and Todd Sinett put in a clear and conscise format not only what causes back pain, but they provide so many practical examples on how to help aleviate it. I have already begun to incorporate what I have read, including some easy to implement changes to my diet that require almost no sacrifice. Also, by having a series of pages with step-by-step exercises and practical tips throughout the book, I expect to refer back to this book for years to come.

The authors do a great job of explaining holistic causes and remedies for back problems. Let me start by saying that I am comparing this to Stuart McGill's (a PhD in spine biomechanics who backs up his statements with hard evidence in a lab) two back biomechanics books. The Sinetts' statements agree with McGill on many issues, but there are some exercises that may be harmful, according to what I've read from McGill and others.
On page 108 the plank is very helpful, but the Sinetts say to pull the navel into the spine. According to tests done by McGill, this actually disables some of the supportive "guy wire" torso muscles and ends up putting more pressure on the spine. A better way to "plank" is to brace, or stiffen the entire torso, but don't suck in. On pages 110,111, and 112 there are exercises telling you to lie on your back and lift your straight legs up. This may be activating your psoas muscles much more than your abdominal muscles. If your psoas muscles are too strong and tight, they will pull on your lower back, where they are attached after running from the front of your hip through your pelvis. These are not good for my lower back. I'm glad the authors dispel the myths regarding how to get six pack abs and how pursuing them can actually create back problems. Also they say that some Pilates exercises can create more problems. I never had back problems until I tried Pilates, which puts a lot of emphasis on the psoas, which pulls on the lower back. Look this up on the internet. The book is written in a very ego-less and friendly style that is easy to read and comprehend. I believe the authors were very sincere in this effort to help, since there are no sensationalist claims or exaggerations. The stories of their clinical experience are also helpful. My dad has had back problems for decades, so this book interested me.
You can see the author on the morning show at http://bookbonuses.com/. I'm one of the many people offering a bonus to support the launch of this book, because I know how important this issue truly is to all of us, whether we know it or not. What I like about this book is the fact that it is more than a book with stretches and facts about back pain. Oh, you'll get some helpful hints for sure, but stress and nutrition are also a HUGE part of back pain. Did you know this? I didn't until this book...Half of the work force will miss work due to back pain this year. So think about this... How many worker's comp claims are because of back pain or injuries related to stress? How much do companies lose annually because people are absent due to back pain? How much would it help the economy if businesses (huge corporations on down to small businesses) taught employees to be healthy? This book is written like your best friend is helping you out. It is easy to follow. Even if your back feels great today, order the book and discover how to eat for a healthy back and how to keep stress in check. Be sure to order 3 copies. One for you, one for a loved one, and one for your boss or co-worker. It is a rare pleasure to find a book that can truly surprise you, but that is exactly what "The Truth About Back Pain" did for me. It was a joy to read and filled with many "aha moments!" The reader is guided through with thoughtfulness and humor delivered in an uncomplicated style that shares practical advice supported by research, patient & personal experiences and experts in health on how to better understand what back pain is telling us and how to be proactive in one's health choices. The process in the book is both logical and thought provoking in how to approach and investigate all healthcare needs, and has a unique blend of information from western and eastern medical practices supported by exceptional insight of more than 40 years of chiropractic and life experience. In addition, there is a healthy diet plan, practical stretches/exercises and great stress reducing techniques that can be immediately implemented. I have already begun this process in my own life with great results. What makes this book so special is the direction it provides in improving one's overall quality of life by sharing an approach that is full of balanced choices and a positive attitude that will make you feel better in mind, body and spirit. Thank you to Dr. Todd Sinett and his father Dr. Sheldon Sinett for providing all of us with a clear roadmap to live better and happier.

Often times one starts to read a medical or self-help book only to find that after a few pages your eyeballs rollover and you can't follow the author's advice because it is too technical and over the average reader's head. This book is truly written to offer the average person practical yet simple ways to possibly avoid back pain and the general aches and pains usually connected to aging. It also offers the reader some eye opening alternatives to the established medical community with documented and well constructed arguments for "thinking outside the box". I really enjoyed reading this book. I have already implemented some of the easier to do things and I am committed to trying some of the others. This is a must read for the typical aging adult.
