I am a 44 year-old female with signs of RA. I started this diet in an attempt to reduce any inflammation in my body that might aggravate my RA. I have to say, I haven't had much relief in that department, but this diet cut my carb cravings, boosted my energy, and made me feel like I am finally eating the way I was made to eat. This diet just feels right! It's a feeling that you just cannot get from a bag or a box.

It took me about 2 months to see steady weight loss - I've lost a total of 17 pounds so far. And now what I now know about this eating plan is that I can go on vacation, eat out every meal for 4 days, or "cheat" on the weekends or when we have company and not gain a single ounce - I really do keep the weight off without trying and it keeps coming off.
This diet has absolutely done what it was designed to do - put my body back in balance by eating healthy fats and phytonutrients.

The recipes are delicious, creative, and balanced. It did seem like the portions were really meant for two, but I guess it's part of the "loading" stage to get the balance of healthy fats in so they can go to work. It happened for me and I am very, very grateful.

When I ordered this book, my hope was that "this time it will work !" As I read through the book, I decided that indeed, it "might work!"
As I put the recommendations to work, I found out that it DID work!
I have totally changed my eating habits, as recommended, and have found that weight loss started immediately, and has maintained at an even level for four months. The recipes are delicious, the snacks satisfying, the results awesome!
I highly recommend this book to all who have been having trouble losing weight, and keeping it off. It IS easy, after all !

This book was easy to read, yet gave the reader a grasp of the most recent research on obesity, with the issues of leptin resistance and inflammation.
He has a unique twist on it with the use of herbs to fight inflammation.
After reading this book, you will have a much better grasp of what you need to do and what you need to avoid to get off the dieting yo-yo.
The only way his diet could be improved would be if it were vegetarian, as cooked meat is very toxic. Nonetheless, this book is worth reading just to understand the science in easy layman's terms.

This way of eating healthy makes a big difference in the way you feel. The diet has you eating plenty of fruits and vegetables about nine servings instead of five. The food requires shopping more often to maintain the freshness of the vegetables and fruit and is costlier than other diets I have tried but I feel it was well worth it. The recipes are easy to follow and grocery lists are provided for the first four weeks. Easy to read and follow.

This is the book to help overweight people, such as myself, who could not lose weight even when they followed good eating principles. It explains for us the WHY of the hormone that has failed us until we get things back to the way they were. The food allowed is specific and strict, because we are changing our out-of-whack systems and starting the healing process so we can once again burn calories. IT HELPS TO FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHY WE FAILED WHEN OTHERS SEEMED TO EASILY HAVE SUCCESS. And then the book tells us how to correct it, with listed meal plan and helpful recipes.

Simple, concise, and honest. Follow these procedures and eat these foods as designed, and you, too, will at last have success in gaining back your health and becoming fit again.

I was so excited to read the testimonials. Then I purchased the book and saw how few calories a person is supposed to eat for breakfast. I tried the egg white fritatta. It tasted good, but didn't hold me for long. Just not a program that will work for me. I need more calories first thing in the morning to stave off hunger.

This is an interesting book full of healthy foods and recipes. The author, Dr. Galland, explains the interrelationship of hunger, inflammation, and body weight. The premise of the diet is that if you become leptin-resistant so that your body does not respond to the hormone leptin, you will have difficulty losing weight. Leptin suppresses appetite and stimulates metabolism thereby assisting with weight loss. The three-phase diet program provides a combination of anti-inflammatory and hormone-balancing foods and over a hundred delicious recipes.

Dr. Galland believes that leptin resistance is a hormone imbalance that interferes with our natural ability to regulate appetite and metabolism. The good news is that this imbalance can be fixed by the foods we eat and don't eat. He also believes we get caught in a vicious cycle of inflammation and obesity, where inflammation can be caused by certain foods and by being overweight. Tastiest diet ever. It is very filling. I actually enjoyed making the recipes, which for someone who hates cooking is extraordinary. I bought a steam pot, which actually cooks the chicken in much less time, and I've found that I actually love preparing the food. I loves mincing the garlic and onions, and tomatoes. I'm in love with this diet, which is the only diet I've tried that has lifelong potential. Not to mention I'm FULL. I'm full after eating less. I've been trying to cut my portions in half without any luck, I've tried it again with this diet and I haven't been hungry since.

This book, The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, provides a lot of information on the problem of inflammation in the human body and why it occurs. It relates to the hormone leptin (dicovered in 1996), but do not buy this book if you want accurate info on getting your leptin back in balance. Buy The Leptin Diet by Byron Richards, instead (check out my review of his book for more info).

Galland's book encourages snacking, but snacking is one of the major reasons leptin gets out of balance. This book has excellent information about eating healthfully and naturally, so it is valuable for that topic, as well as his research on inflammation, but recommending snacking is contradictory to leptin balance.

This book has an endorsement by Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah's doctor. It just goes to show you that even the doctors on the cutting edge of medicine don't know much about nutrition and fail to realize that people need to stop eating 6 meals a day. Human digestion is designed to accept 3 meals a day, 5-6 hours apart, which is fact based on the basic science of biology, metabolism and digestion. This is a major problem since, as a country, we are told that we need to eat frequently, which is a myth. If you read Byron Richards' book, you'll understand why. Richards is a clinical nutritionist, which may be the reason his book contains the accurate nutritional information we need.

The Fat Resistance Diet is a must read if you are serious about your health. In many ways it is not all that revolutionary in the sense of its recommendations - eat more greens and vegatables, less red meat, etc. - but it gives rationales and more importantly recipes and meal plans for some delicious meals. My wife and I have been on it for about three months and both of us have lost weight, sleep better and are never hungry. (In fact we seldom eat the portions the recipes indicate.) Be prepared to spend a bit more time cooking - prepared foods are forbidden. Otherwise - we love it!

At the request of my Dr. I ordered this book. Due to joint replacements and overall health problems I have gradually gained weight. He felt this book would help because the diet addresses the issue of Leptin (a hormone in the brain that helps your body process fat) not functioning in the way it should. Inflammation in the body influences how the Leptin processes fat and if you have a lot of inflammation chances are your Leptin is not functioning like it should be.

I started the diet and 10 days later I had lost 8 lbs. The swelling in my feet and legs was down considerably. I saw my Dr. for a check-up yesterday and he was thrilled with my progress and so am I. I always thought I ate healthy, but I found out I don't. Now I am learning to with the help of The Fat Resistance Diet.

My husband is following the diet with me and has lost more weight then I have, but he is more active, also.

The meals are good and pretty easy to fix once you get used to chopping up lots of vegetables. The meats are mainly fish and chicken with beef allowed once a week. You eat 8-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. It is a different way of eating and I think a person just has to get their mind wrapped around the fact that they need to eat better or be ill.

The book included daily meal plans and all the recipes. It even has a grocery shopping list.

The Fat Resistance Diet has helped me so much in a short time and I am excited to see how I feel in a month or two.

I have read just about every diet/nutrition book out there. This is the first one that actually had some new information that I was not previously aware of. The concept is great, but the diet is so rigid it would be very hard to actually follow the food choices - oh wait, there are no choices! That is right, no substutions at all. It is interesting to read though.

6 days into the diet and have lost 4 pounds. I love it because it's a simple list of approved foods. Haven't been hungry and have had more energy...which has turned my normal 4 mile walks (which never helped me lose weight) into 3 miles of jogging a day. I do like to eat greens and vegetables and fruits, so I've had no trouble taking to this way of eating. I like the idea that I will have a way of eating that I can easily sustain without thinking about it. I'll write more as time goes on

14 days in and I've lost 7 lbs. and my body is clearly in weight loss mode. I still love the food choices. I would have lost more, I think, but I spent 5 days at a resort that had an incredible desert buffet and I couldn't help myself from tasting. I otherwise ate the foods recommended at the resort and didn't gain any weight! Interestingly, I've stopped eating nearly as much food--stop at one serving at dinner, where I always had two. Also, I crave all the foods that I'm eating and have lost my cravings for any foods (cheese, sweets) that used to be my downfall. Everything that the book says would happen is happening.

i subscribe to xm radio and particularly enjoy dr mehmet oz...i had listened to dr leo galland on his show and thought what he had to say was very compelling, so i bought the book...i was so disapointed....he could have condwensed the entire contents of the book to one page, even one sentence...give up refined sugar...nevertheless, because i have always had a problem with high cholesterol, i faithfully tried his program for several months...then i had my cholesterol checked again...nothing had changed...i will continue on with his diet for 4 more months, but no longer have high expectations...

..exercise, avoid trans fats and processed foods. Not much here that we haven't already been told a thousand times. My biggest complaint about this book is that if you don't want to follow Dr. Galland's menus for each stage, you won't know what to add to the next stage without going through his meal plans and figuring out what is different. Lists of what to eat and what not to eat on each stage would have made the plan much easier to follow. There is a bit more information for the first stage including the helpful eating out ideas sheet, but otherwise I felt very lost.

The best thing I can say about The Fat Resistance Diet is that the recipes are very, very good. Easy to prepare as well.

I love this book and I carry it around like a "Bible". The book is easy to understand and is not patronizing at all. I was attracted to it because it addressed so many issues that hit close to home. The book not only offers a sensible eating plan, it also comes with fantastic gourmet recipes that are quick and easy (they're concocted by Dr. Galland's son, Jonathan). In "Stage 1", one of the first recipes I tried was the "Green Tea-Crusted Salmon with Lemon Ginger Salsa". I felt like I was eating in a 5 star restaurant! I find that I'm satisfied after eating,I'm never hungry and I lost 7 pounds in the first week! The people I have lunch with can't believe how great my lunches look. I love to cook and look forward to making my gourmet meals every day. I really think this is the plan that I can live with for the rest of my life. Thank you, Dr. Galland and Jonathan!
Update 3/28/07 -- I'm into my 5th week and have lost 17 pounds! The weight seems to be melting off! I'm still loving the recipes and not missing anything that I've given up.

I started the diet immediately and did lose 7# in the first 2 weeks. I do find it quite effortless, but I've always have loved fruits and vegetables. I have just undergone major reconstructive surgery on my left foot and I am expecting it to heal even more quickly, thanks in part to my healthier diet

I have lost the same 2-4 pounds endlessly (and any woman I know nodds her head here) I chose this book arbitrarily and told my husband - they're all the same, I just need one which gives me a clear eating/cooking plan and this is the current favorite. Except, except they're not all the same, becuause I am up to 8 pounds lost and it's working far better than all the hundreds of other books/schemes I've tried. I've done south beach and weight watchers and jenny craig and even had fancy food delivered to my door. And this is better. It's harsh - in that it cuts out a huge amount of food - basically all refined sugar and most grains - but it's effective and I eat what it tells me too and like the book promised, the weight is starting to slowly melt off. For the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful.

This is a wonderful book for getting some of the basics of healthy eating. AT times it was a little convuluted, but reamins a strong basic read for changing habits. A few weeks ago, I started following some of the advice and have lost about 5 pounds, sleep better, and feel more energetic.

This book lays out a three phase plan for losing weight, maintaining your target weight and eating healthy for the rest of your life. There are enough recipes and menus, and the portions are generous enough that you don't feel like it's really a diet. Plus the author teaches you which foods are beneficial so that you can create your own meal plans. There are a lot of these types of books poping up because of recent research studies. I think this one does a very good job of keeping things real...
