When i ordered this product, I only had approximately 2 weeks to study, yes that was a bad choice, I was studying some other things, but felt that I need more depth in a lot of topics on FE Exam. So I ordered this book and crammed this book for 2 weeks. I learned so much from this book in 2 weeks than I ever did when studying for the FE exam for like 3 months. IT really shows great examples and covers almost everything on the FE exam. I would highly suggest this for anyone who wants to have a full depth study guide on the FE exam. You will learn a lot from this book even if you didn't really learn in your class =p!!!

I ordered this book to late. Make sure to order early and go through as many sections and test problems as possible. The problems are very simliar to what is on the test. Worth the money. I wont know until January 2009 whether I passed the FE or not.

This book is a perfect review book. It covers everything you need to know for both the morning and afternoon General Engineering portions. If you cover all 55 chapters you will be well prepared. Don't wait until the last minute to buy this. I bought this 3 weeks before the exam and I spent a lot of long nights going through it just to finish reviewing-get it at least 1 1/2 months ahead.

I sat for the FE exam yesterday and had used this book as my study guide. I took the general afternoon section, which is covered by the FE Review Manual as well.
One of the major selling points for this book is "Pass the exam or get your money back." It's obvious now why they make that claim. The thoroughness of this study guide is such that there are no unexpected questions. As I sat moving through the sections of the actual FE exam, it felt exactly like moving through different chapters of this book. There were no surprises. A hint to future FE test takers is to study the "Engineering Economics" section. This is one of the easiest sections to snag points. I overheard many people in the lobby talking about how stupid it was and how they didn't understand any of it. The FE review manual does a great job of explaining the interest rate tables in the Reference Manual (the manual you can use during the exam), and once you understand how to use them, the problems are a breeze. One warning, when you use this book, it's very easy to reference the chapter you're working on to find an equation. Make an effort to only use the FE Reference Manual when doing practice problems (Order or download a copy of that as well. Make sure it's the most current edition). Once test day comes, you'll know it well and have no problem finding what you're looking for. Good Luck! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-01 04:12:53 EST)

I purchased this book along with the Mechanical specialty study guide. I've only been out of college for 6 months, but I still found this book to be confusing and unhelpful. Its basically only good for practice problems because the review sections are WORTHLESS. Even in the practice problems throughout the book I found numerous typo's and mistakes in both the problems and the solutions. I haven't tried any other book to compare it to, but there has got to be something better...

The book does not explain concepts too well. It is good for review only, but if you have to learn something its pretty worthless. Also, its big claim is that it follows the order of the FE provided equation book, but I found this claim to simply be false. It seems to go in a random order and decide arbitrarily how many questions to ask for each section.

Give yourself about 3 months (or more) and go through the entire book. Follow the author's instructions on how to use the manual. If you go through each chapter and do the questions, you will pass the FE. The format and level of complexity are a spot on match to the test. Time is a factor with this method, it is about 3 inches thick, so don't wait until you have 3 weeks left to study. Pay particular attention to subjects that you studied in your freshman and sophomore years, such as electric circuits and electromagnetism, also make sure you cover structural analysis and geotech thoroughly, you'll find that it will come back to you quickly once you start studying. Also, get yourself a new edition of the equation manual and use it when studying this book, you'll find that they are arranged in approximately the same order of topics. Learning your way around the equation book is extremely important, as time is a factor on the test. If you make a genuine effort and use this manual you will pass the FE. Good luck!

I think this book covers the material very good. The methodology is excellent. The only section that I would recommend is to wide the differential equation section because it was poor in this subject. I have been out of school for about ten years and I need more material in order for me to ketch up. Other that the problems are well explain and plenty of problem for the student.

I would strongly recommend only and only this book if you do not have that much time left for studying.
I purchased the book, studied for only 40 days, and passed the FE exam on my first try!!!! This book covers a short but good enough review of all the subjects included in the exam. Then walks you through a lot of useful problems and their solutions. on the exam day, the problems were very similar to the ones i had worked out in the book concept wise. Good Luck! To those who are preparing to take the FE exam soon, there is no way you will be able to go through the whole book cover-to-cover. This is the Truth. It would be Great if you could go through the whole book at your own pace, and then take the FE exam. This is Impossible. So, my advice is that you should only study what you aren't comfortable with. Brush up on Thermo, Fluids, Circuits, etc. If you have additional time to study, go over other smaller subjects like Chem, Bio, Ethics, etc. Seriously, you will have to wing alot of stuff during the Exam.

16 years after college graduation, I used this FE Review Manual and passed the 2008 FE exam. Since I am working full time and 60% of the topics I am not familiar with, I spent 2 hours/day for 6 six months. All the efforts finally paid off! During my preparation for the exam, I gained more and more confidence through working on practice examples. The actual exam is easier than the practice examples, and you need to be familiar with the NCEES Handbook. Though I am very good at maechanical design, kinematics and vibration, I am not familiar with thermo and fluid. I took the Genral Exam in the afternoon instead of Mechnical Engineering Exam, and I did well.
I planned to take the PE exam october 2009 and will use Michael's books again. With all my dedication in learning, I should be able to pass the exam. I wish those who want to take the exam can pass the exam, but you need good book and dedication. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-19 02:58:16 EST)

This stuff is perfect guidebook for your passing FE exam in very short time.
No more text is required except 'Samples Questions & Solutions' produced from NCEES.. which shows actual FE-test problem. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-03 03:01:09 EST)

After being out of school for 15 years, I had a lot of work to prepare for the FE / EIT exam. I worked nearly every problem in this book over a 5 month period and didn't really have time to look at other books. I passed the Florida exam so it certainly helped.
My biggest complaint about this Manual is that it doesn't reference the equations found in the NCEES handbook. As you know, the NCEES handbook is the only reference material allowed during the exam. To solve the problems you have to rely on equations presented at the beginning of the chapter. These equations are not always found in the NCEES so it gets confusing. This is a great book for preparing for the General portion of the FE/EIT exam. I highly recommend it. Make sure you give yourself enough time to work through the entire book. It's better to over-prepare for this test, because after all, if you are an engineer, then these are things you should know. An iteration of problem solving and reading with this book, and then a review of the things you don't feel that confident about should be enough to guarantee a passing score. Also, you'll want to download a free version of the NCEES Reference Guide, and solve the problems while using that as your only reference. The ability to easily wade through that reference guide will make everything go much smoother while taking the exam.

This book is a new edition of a long-running FE preparation manual. It covers all the materials in the FE morning exam, and the questions in the book are very similar to the real FE test. If you feel that your background in the basic math/physics/engineering science areas are getting rusty, then this is the book to go for.

I strongly recommend this book for passing EIT in the first go. I had lost in touch with some specific subject basics of engineering. I worked through this book for one month which got me on track with the 'A to Z' of engineering problem solving methods. Then I took the sample exam from the NCEES FE study materials and gradually gained confidence required to face the exam. After I passed the exam, I was just thanking Micheal R. Lindeburg in my mind for writing this book.

more explanations and clearer path of description and priority of subjects is needed, some subjects are discussed and explained in this book briefly which makes it hard to understand the purpose or use of some information or equations in practical engineering, other than that , the book has a lot of mathematical derivation that is not needed to be mentioned for engineers who has studied them in college, this book also lacks graphs and explanation diagrams that would make it worth more and more efficient.

This book is well-written and contains everything you'll need to know to get a high score for the FE Exam. There are a lot of practice problems that are more difficult than those encountered on the real test, so if you can't do all the problems, it shouldn't be a big deal when you take the real test.
Some things you should be aware of: This will be the only text you need ONLY if you plan on taking the general exam in the morning and the general exam in the afternoon (as opposed to an exam more specific in your field, like chemical engineering). The general exam in the afternoon is more difficult and covers different topics than the one in the morning (and pass rates are generally lower for people who take the afternoon general exam). Thus, if you plan on taking a module specific to your field in the afternoon, you'll need another FE review book specific to your field. With that said, all the chapters in this book are not necessary if you plan on taking a non-general exam in the afternoon. Make sure you find out which chapters you need to study or else you'll go through a lot of unnecessary material for the morning exam, which is what I did. I found the book to be very complete and helpful. The example and practice problems were more than adequate to prepare me for the exam. Most often, the practice problems were much more difficult than the actual test problems.
I studied for three weeks prior to the exam, and I have no doubts that I passed. This book was an invaluable resource during my preparation. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-13 19:11:04 EST)

This is the ideal book for someone who has been out of school for more than 5 years. It is well written, excellent explanations, and after studying it you should be ready to do the general engineering version of the FE exam. (AM and PM). I have the impression that the questions are a little more difficult than the real exam, which can be good as it gives an extra factor of safety.
The only con is that it takes a lot of time to prepare all the topics, so consider at least two months. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-02 03:01:59 EST)

It had been almost two years since I graduated with my chemical engineering degree. I bought this book a few months before the April exam and read a chapter a day while taking the train to work. I kicked up my studying a week or so before the test date and then rocked the test! The practice questions and tests seemed so much harder than the actual test. I was shocked when I finished both test sessions with at least an hour to spare! Buy this book and prepare to rock!

This book is really helpful if you buy it when you start taking your engineering courses because most of the professors look at this book while picking up exam questions. Lets not forget its also a good review for FE.
If you buy this book when you are junior or upper sophomore and start using it as reference it wont be new book to you when you start reviewing it for FE. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-07 08:06:38 EST)

Make sure you get this book about 3 months before you are scheduled to take the FE exam, otherwise it won't be very helpful. All the questions follow the brief lectures and are organized by chapter, so it doesn't really give you the opportunity to practice in a style similar to the actual exam. I would first reccommend the sample question booklet availabe from NCEES, but if you feel you really need alot of prep, this is the way to go

This book does a very good job in reminding you the basic principles of the subjects tackled in the FE exam. The problems are more difficult than the actual morning exam problems, so if you study, you are well prepared for the morning session and relatively ready for the afternoon one. It is also organized in small chapters so you can study selectively if you can't study everything.

This book was ABSOLUTELY IDEAL for reviewing the material you will need to pass the EIT/FE exam.
The book is broken down by category, with an introductory section followed by example problems. The introductions, while simple, are perfect for getting your mind back in the groove of those classes you took three years ago. Print off the official reference handbook (you WILL be doing a LOT of flipping through this during the test) and work through your weakest sections first. After I went through the weakest sections I went straight for my strongest subjects. The point is to pass, you don't need to be good at every subject, and you CAN pass by knowing a few categories really well. The problems really are harder in this book than on the actual exam. When I did the practice problems I knew how to do maybe 1%, and half of those I did wrong anyway. Just make sure you understand how to do it correctly, it doesn't matter if you know it off the top of your head while you are studying this stuff for the first time in 3 years. When I got to the test, the questions seemed very easy and straightforward because I had struggled through the concepts while studying. Anyway, I did pass despite the fact that I really only studied maybe 15 hours for the test. I don't recommend not studying, but this book is the perfect condensed study guide. By the way, I also keep it around as a GREAT reference book for all those things you know you learned at one time, but have since forgotten. You don't just have to throw it away after. This book has a great outline and a "study schedule" already prepared for you so that you can follow and study on a regular basis for the exam. I wasn't even very good about keeping up with the schedule, and still felt like what I reviewed in the book was essential to pass the exam! I would recommend it to anyone who is studying for this test.

Michael Lindeburg does an excellent job in preparing you for the FE. I was in school and still bought this book for reveiw. I am normal and forget some of the many things I've learned while in school, so this book was a good way to re-establish what I had forgotten and bring me up to speed on everything I would be tested on for the FE. Yes the problems in the book are more difficult than the actual test; however, when you are training to run a 10 mile race, do you practice by running 10 miles? No! you run 20, so on race day a 10 mile run is like a walk in the park. Buy this book, it does it's job. I passed the FE w/ 2 months of solid studying using only this book & the Civil prep book my Lindeburg.
Just remember the biggest portion of the General morning exam is math. Hit it hard. I would also recommend becomming familiar w/ the NCEES supplied reference handbook. Good Luck! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-03-03 03:30:05 EST)

Excellent job getting the book to me. There is no sense in getting expedited shipping when they get it to you this quickly via standard shipping. The book was in great condition and I can't say enough about them. Good job guys.

I bought this book rater late around mid-September 2006 and I was supposed to take the October 2006 exam. I was rather doubtful about passing the exam. I studied from this book and this book alone for 1.5 months. Studied everyday regularly for about 2-3 hours. Then I took the exam. Even though I am a Civil-Environmental Engineer, I took the General EIT. I got my results in the 1st week of Jaunary and I am thrilled to report that I have passed the EIT. I can be confident enough to say that even if you guys study this book....say everyday for 2-3 hours regularly, it is sufficient to pass the EIT based on a 1 to 1.5 month study duration. So, its never too late. The level of problems in this book is tougher that those you will encounter in the actual EIT. Hence, you will find the actual EIT bit easier. I will suggest concentrate on the Math section very very well. Master the Math, and you are more likely to pass than anything else.
And dont forget my motto "STUDY SMART NOT HARD". Instead of trying to cover up all the syllabus, try to cover only about 70-80 percent of it. But what you study....dont just study it....master it!! The exam is all about passing, not scoring. So you want to make sure you study the high weightage topics first and master them. All you care about is passing the exam. So it doesnt matter much even if you leave out a few small topics that end up being about 20-30 percent of the syllabus. You can guess those questions and get about 25% of them right. While guessing, make sure that you mark all answers the same...i.e....mark all answers "A" or "B" or "C" or "D". You probability of getting more answers right increases that way. Overall, awesome book, very detailed and very well written. I would recommend it to anyone wants to pass the EIT in the first attempt itself. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-29 03:30:00 EST)

I generally like the book because it gives a very good theoretical summary on very many subjects. Some of the things I never understood as an undergraduate student became more clear to me after reading this book.
On the negative side, the book is full of errors. They are not huge errors but annoying nonetheless. There are not enough example problems in the book. I recommend buying a separate book of problems to go with this one. I recommend buying this book (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-16 03:23:58 EST)
