Beating Cancer with Nutrition

· Sugar feeds Cancer: diet and supplements can starve tumors
· Nutrition makes chemo and radiation more toxic to the tumor while protecting the patient
· Nutrition changes underlying causes of cancer, improving outcome for cancer patients regardless of other therapies.

Why Beating Cancer with Nutrition is unique:
The book was developed after working with over 500 cancer patients and organizing 3 international symposiums on the subject. The information contained in BCN is both scientifically backed with references and clinically proven in the hospital with patients. This information helps cancer patients to improve quality and quantity of life. BCN had been translated into Japanese and Chinese and is being translated into Korean. BCN had become a home study continuing education course for registered nurses. BCN 2001 version will contain a 72-minute audio CD version in response to the requests from tired cancer patients who said they needed and audio version of the book to get started. BCN had sold 110,000 copies in 7 years in print, which is impressive for small publishers.

Why Patrick Quillin is Unique:
For the past 10 years, Dr. Patrick Quillin has served as the Director of Nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. He is an internationally respected expert in the area of nutrition and cancer. He has earned his bachelor's, Master's and doctorate degrees in nutrition and is a registered and licensed dietitian ( RD & LD) and Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) with the American College of Nutrition.

I had gotten this book back in January of 2007, when my mother-in-law had colon cancer. I was the one taking care of her after her surgery and this book was very informative and very helpful. The diet that was given to my mother-in-law after surgery was terrible. Lots of canned food and hidden surgars. They wanted her to gain weight, but the way they were trying to achieve this was absolutely horrible. This book came in handy for me and I was able to change her diet completely. The only thing that she hasn't been able to give up is ice-cream, but other than that we used this book as a bible to help her get healthy.

The doctors wanted her to have kemo and radiation since her cancer marker were so high before the surgery and were still above the mark that they reccomend for treatment, but my mother-in-law decided that since her lymph nodes and all the tissure around the tumor was negative of cancer, she opted out. With diet we were able to bring her markers under the mark that they recommend treatment. I gave her the book and then recently bought another for me to have here at home. They test her blood every three months and every six she has other tests and so far she is doing remarkably well. The doctors are very impressed with her. She also is now walking about six miles a day. She says that walking really makes her feel good and she has her routine that she does, rain or shine.

Thank you Mr. Quillin for writing this book.

Out of the three books on fighting cancer with nutrition that I recently ordered, I would say that this one is the best. It is very informative and easily understandable and it also has a good variety of recipes to choose from. Also included in the back of the book is a chart listing foods that are considered the healthiest to the worst which makes selecting the healthy foods very easy.

I am now a beleiver of the approach and of the Immunopower recommended by Dr.Quillen. My husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer this past year- a total surprise to us as he was initially in the ER for a possible appendicitis scare. The kidney tumor found by accident was measured as at least .50 cm and was said to be (by a top specialist and teacher at a very excellent hospital)to be "very, very, very aggressive in nature-a Furhman grade 3 and possibly a 4" from its appearance on the CAT scan.
I had picked up this book just browsing in a local bookstore before his surgery was to be take place in a month-I figured"Why not?" and ordered the Immunopower. I was fortunate enough to have my husband agree to not only take the Immunopower, but also to follow the eating plan advocated by Dr.Quillen. The good news-the tumor was found to be smaller than initially measured causing it to be Staged at 1 B-and the best news ever-the Fuhrman grade was a 2-and the surgeon said" I am pleased and happily surprised to report that the pathology report showed the Fuhrman grade was Grade 2 and not anywhere as aggressive as I initially thought it to be". We were so fortunate in that the laproscopic surgery to remove his left kidney resulted in the surgeon being able to extract the entire tumor encased in a layer of fat.( While that was not related to Dr.Quillens work, but to some Higher Power and good fortune,) I do believe the Immunopower reduced the aggressiveness of the tumor in a very short time in this case.

(Hide Review...)  What you need to know to prevent cancer and heal more quickly if you have it
Reviewer Permalink
What author Patrick Quillin wants people to know is that there is a direct, documented connection between diet and cancer. You will come away from this book armed with the knowledge you need to prevent cancer or to increase your odds of healing if you have cancer.

Malnutrition, caused when cancer shifts the metabolism into high gear and induces loss of appetite, kills 40 percent of cancer patients. Additionally, cancer researchers estimate that a large percentage of all cancers can be avoided with proper nutrition, low stress levels and psychological wellness.

Quillin, a nutritionist and medical researcher, has spent over 15 years working with 3,000 cancer patients in cancer treatment centers to improve their outcomes. The bottom line of Quillin's research and book is that a well-nourished cancer patient can better manage the disease, and has fewer infections, less side-effects from chemotherapy and radiation, as well as a better quality and quantity of life and improved chances for complete remission.

The book also explains how cancer forms, how various chemotherapies work and how vitamins, minerals and other nutrients (from supplements or food) can work in harmony with chemotherapy to improve treatment results. "Nutrition can make medical therapy more of a selective toxin against the cancer and less damaging to the patient," says Quillin, who advocates that nutrition therapy is an essential part of a comprehensive cancer treatment because:

* Proper nutrition protects patients against the toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation without reducing their effectiveness in killing cancer;
* Nutrients support the immune system in sequestering and eliminating cancer; and
* Tumors feed on sugar, therefore certain diet restrictions are crucial. Food additives such as Aspartame (NutraSweet) and Saccharin have both been linked to cancer and should also be avoided. Sucralose (Splenda) seems to be safe.

Quillin does not offer prescriptions or treatment for cancer in all it's forms; rather he shows how patients can supplement their current treatment with specific vitamins, minerals and nutrient-rich foods to get better outcomes.

Beating Cancer With Nutrition is also a book for people who want to prevent cancer. People who are inactive, stressed, and have poor diets (high in processed food and low in vegetables and fiber) have an exceptionally high likelihood of developing cancer.

Toxins - The average person comes into contact with 20,000 known carcinogens.
Distress--Scientific studies have found that people with severely stressful lives can be 1500% more prone to developing cancer.
Poor nutrition--The body is built and repaired by the nutrients in our food. We need certain nutrients to fight cancer.
Lack of exercise--40 percent of Americans will develop cancer in their lifetimes, but only 14 percent of highly active American will develop cancer.

Quillin's discussion of what causes cancer shows that we can reduce our chances of getting it by adopting nutrition and exercise habits and avoiding stress and toxins. Quillin offers lengthy explanations of which nutrients are necessary to keep our immune system strong enough to destroy cancer cells as they form.

Cancer patients and healthy people alike will find this book to be eye opening. We seem to have some measure of control in avoiding cancer. This book will make you think hard about your diet, your stress levels and how you can give yourself the best chances of recovering from or avoiding cancer.

I've purchased this book on two different occasions and given it to friends with cancer. It is a great resource for the recipes alone, and also the vitamin therapy that Quillan outlines in detail. The first edition I bought also came with an accompanying CD, which was very helpful. Nutrition is incredibly important in daily life, but especially a battle with cancer. My name is Dr. Douglas Husbands ([...]) and I've been practicing holistic health care for about 2 decades. As a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, Chiropractor and Functional Medicine health practitioner, I have many patients who seek my help for multiple health problems including cancer. I always recommend that any patient who has cancer purchase, read and immediately begin to implement the recommendations Dr. Quillin makes in his book. This is THE most excellent, straightforward, easy to read self-help book with practical, scientifically-supported and valid information designed for anyone with cancer and no prior background in nutrition or health care. It should even be standard reading for many medical oncologists, which would result in many people's lives being saved!

I recently found out I have a relative with cancer who lives too far away from me to provide adequate care for. Besides referring them to a holistic health care colleague closer to where they live, I've advised them to immediately purchase, read and implement the advise outlined by Dr. Quillin in Beating Cancer With Nutrition. If you have cancer, or want to prevent it, buy this book and take the steps outlined NOW!

Lastly, I get no financial benefit from recommending this book, but I feel so strongly about this that I wholeheartedly urge anyone with cancer to benefit from the recommendations provided in the book.

The book at times is laid out in such a consumer unfriendly manner as the label on Dr. Bronner's soap bottles. Confusing little boxes, obscure charts, a highly incomplete index. The writing style is a bit pedestrian, too. There is some fine information, but also much that is irrelevant. And as several other reviewers here have noted, you wind up wondering at times whether all of the author's arguments are objective views based on good science or the rantings of a man obsessively beating his own drum. Still, this tome can be helpful if bought with an additional text.

(Hide Review...)  A bilwildering blend of sound advice and balderdash
Reviewer Permalink
To begin with, had the book been titled something like "Nutrition for the Cancer Patient" or "Better Cancer Care Through Nutrition" it would have come closer to reflecting what the author actually has to say. Caveats and disclaimers abound. So does anecdotal evidence, hardly a good scientific standard.

To give one example of why I find this book suspicious:

The author makes the oft-heard claim "cancer feeds on sugar statement, stop eating sugar" - this is horridly misleading. Unless you are diabetic, your blood sugar is maintained within a constant range. If what the author is saying were true, then diabetics would have far worse rates of cancer than the non-diabetic population, and I've seen no studies saying this is so. The author twists a fact, which is that cancer cells use sugar to the extent that other cells are deprived of this necessary nutrient - thus the wasting. Is it good to avoid excess sugar in the diet? Of course, excess sugar usually means empty calories, and what the body cannot use is turned into fat. But, if you ate no sugars at all, your body would still break complex carbs into sugar, because simple sugars are basic to our metabolism. The author is using pseudo-reasoning, and relies on the readers ignorance or incuriousity - not a good sign.

Still, some of the dietary advice is sound if unspectaular. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, watch your fats and simple carbohydrates - I don't think he makes the case that nutrition can cure cancer, only that it is even more urgent to eat nutritiously whilst going through the ravages of the disease & the rigors of treatment.

I am 30 years old and the summer of 2006 I was diagnosed with two cancers a Stage 1B Cervical Cancer and an advanced adenocarcinoma tumor that was just a short ways away from metastizing. I was told that I was going to have to have a radical historectomy and there was a chance that the adenocarcinoma could have already invaded my lymph nodes. Not wanting a radical surgery I had a minor surgery to remove the tumor burden and then went about changing my life style and diet using this book. It is now one year later, I am cancer free and the doctor recinded her recomindation to have the radical surgery. This wasn't easy to do the journey was long but for anyone with the will to try it is definatly a great way to go. One thing I like about Dr. Quillin is he is not out to prove the medical establishment as wrong but to approach the cure in a whole person way and not just with dramatic surgery and chemo. He also talks about nutrition to support a body going through chemo. Oh another side effect of changing my life is I have gone from 217 lbs (in May 2006) to 147 lbs (this May) I feel better than I have in many years and my doctor says I don't look like I have ever been sick. Oh one last thing I made an actually appointment to speak to the author over the phone, he was resonabled priced and very helpful, he actually seemed concerned with making sure I understood what his book was telling me. He only makes appointment one day a month (at least that was the case a year ago.) but I was fortunate to get that day close to when I needed it.
Thank you Dr. Quillian for helping me live a better life.

I have studied alternative medicine for quite some time, and one particular area of interest of mine is alternative cancer treatments. Even though I don't have cancer, I have lost family members to the disease, and would rather prevent cancer than have to face it later. "Beating Cancer With Nutrition" is probably the best book out there on treating cancer holistically, as it compiles information from a wide range of sources, and advocates using a variety of approaches to treat (and beat) cancer. These include orthodox therapies (chemo, etc) for reduction of tumor burden, nutrition, hyperthermia, diet, spirituality, psychology, and more. Related to diet, Quillan explains the effect of sugar consumption on cancer growth, and after reading the information, I am cutting down my sugar intake. Quillan cites studies to back up what he says, and his thorough approach to cancer treatment ensures that those with cancer will have virtually every weapon available to beat cancer, and treat its devastating effects, including cachexia.

As a nice bonus, Quillan's wife Noreen has compiled some healthy recipes that are pretty easy to prepare. The book also comes with a 72-minute audio CD that essentially covers the major points raised in the book. I enjoyed the CD and listened to it all the way through the first time I played it. At the end of the book, Quillan lists doctors who use nutrition in their practices, sorted by zip code. He also lists other resources for cancer patients, and provides charts with good and bad foods.

Overall, I highly recommend this book for cancer patients. I think Quillan provides a truly holistic approach to cancer treatment that promotes spiritual, physical, and emotional healing, while not rejecting the limited use of orthodox therapy. There are a few areas where I think the book could be improved. First, the design is very "busy." I suspect this is because there is so much information squeezed into one book. However, sometimes the layout looks bulky, and the charts, graphs, and images aren't always clear. Although all could be read, I couldn't always easily make out all the details on some of them. Second, I wish Quillan would have devoted more time to enzymes and cancer treatment. While he speaks positively of them, I would like to have seen more than four pages. I recommend "Enzymes: The Fountain of Life" by Miehlke, Williams, and Lopez, for more information. However, despite these minor drawbacks, I think this book provides a solid outline for beating cancer, although as always, any cancer patient should work with his or her doctor when developing a treatment plan.

I loved this book and could not put it down! Great research was done and references to other books to read was helpful, all the research was done for you.

Very practical ideas to do......cancer can be prevented, anyone should read this book with cancer or not!

I have cancer or should I say had! My tumor was removed in October 2006 and scans a few weeks ago showed the all clear. I refused post surgical Chemo, I had Radiation and Chemo before surgery and that did my body in. I was Stage III and 40 years old......my doctor told me I was his ONLY patient to refuse Chemo, what does that tell us?! He is a great medical doctor and I will stay with him to monitor me.....but I will SURVIVE and show him there are other ways.

I am now getting a degree in Holistic Nutrition because of my readings about cancer.

God Bless,

Liz

(Hide Review...)  Useful information, but anti-medical
Reviewer Permalink
This book is very useful -- technical information is written in a way that is easy for a "lay reader" to understand. The most important message I got from this book is that "cancer feeds on sugar; stop eating sugar!" I had no idea until I read this book, and I have heard/read that numerous times since.

My only problem with this book is how "anti-doctor" it seems to be. I admit that doctors treat cancer with medicine, and that they do not discuss nutrition with patients very much, if at all. Doctors TRUST medicine and clinical studies. I believe nutrition is just as important as medicine in beating MY cancer, but I'm not going to turn my back on my oncologist. As much as I hate chemotherapy, I believe it has been THE key in controlling and beating my cancer. I wish the medical community and the nutritionist could come together -- we need joint research and cooperation. Not an "us and them" mentality.

Finally, this book suggests a slew of supplements that are claimed to beneficial for cancer patients. Talk each of these decisions over with your doctor. If you doctor will not talk to you about supplements, then find a new doctor! But do not begin taking a bunch of OTC remedies without consulting someone -- herbs/vitamins can interfere with traditional cancer regimes; herbs/vitamins that are taken simutaneously can cause adverse side affects. Be informed, but be careful and do keep seeing your doctor!

Getting cancer is truly a scary experience, especially when one's doctor does little more than offer the shaky prospects of chemotherapy and invasive surgery. In BEATING CANCER WITH NUTRITION, Patrick Quillin counters with a program that works better than conventional methods, is far cheaper, and possesses almost none of the corrosive side effects of harsh radiation. Quillian is in the same camp as Kevin Trudeau (author of "Natural Cures"), in that both believe that most medical doctors deliberately downplay alternative medicine in favor of chemo and surgery. Quillian, however, stays away from the cabal conspiracy between the pharmaceuticals and big business and generously implies that the omission is due more to ignorance than a desire to garner profits over patients. Quillian writes in a style that is compact and informative for the layman. He provides a host of nutritional approaches while adding that cancer is a hydra with many heads, and no one size hat fits all. What I like about this book is that Quillian's obvious sincerity and knowhow shine through, giving a plethora of invaluable information that begins where modern medicine leaves off. BEATING CANCER WITH NUTRITION is a must read for those who refuse to submit to the brutalities of chemistry and the scalpel.

(Hide Review...)  Slash, Poison and Burn--a Family Physician's probably biased opinion
Reviewer Permalink
Actually, I haven't had a chance to even open the shipping box yet, however, I am very interested in reading the 2 books I ordered in this shipment on this related topic. You see, I am a Family Physician--NOT an oncologist (Cancer specialist)--and have long believed that we do not treat or manage oncologic (cancer) diseases as best as possible in the US. I have seen way too many patients submit or be subjected to the "Slash, Poison, and Burn" protocols over the years, be given (false) hope--though without hope, none of us have any "goals," etc.--only to be "abandonned" by their cancer-treatment team when the bottom falls out.
Often, the cancer teams almost "steal" patients from we generalists in that we have little contact with our affected patients while they are undergoing active treatment and so long as the follow-ups have no major "bumps in the road." When there is "nothing left to do," these same patients, who have become relative strangers to us, get tossed back in our laps for their "end of life" course, and frankly, I have come to resent this. Actually, I may be inappropriately and uninformedly "spouting off" since I detest malignant diseases (of course, who doesn't???) and haven't really followed them academically.... BUT, first of all Cancer is NOT one disease; second, it is a "breach" of the immune system and thus, I believe the immune system MUST be at the core of truly successful treatment--NOT necessarily expensive, not to mention quite lucrative (for some), treatments that all too often prove to just postpone the inevitable. Further, unfortunately, medicine in the US at this point is a situation of "have's, and have not's" with respect to access, and we are all looking for a "quick fix" in the form of a pill or IV-squirt, etc., for whatever seems to ail us. Our US society, in general, could well benefit from nutritional and fitness efforts and therapies as opposed to "going to the doctor" and walking out with a prescription for something. Hey, I'm as lazy as everyone else in so far as accepting responsibility for myself and making such efforts, too. I am simply aware that successful treatments for cancer ARE available and ARE in use in other countries. For anyone who may read my remarks, please do not misunderstand. I do not intend to reprove the protocols that are in use in the US, just that there is also "something more" available as well. Let me close by stating that, at least as far as I am aware at this time, I do NOT have any malignant disease, nor do any of my close family members. If/when I or anyone in my family does become diagnosed with a cancer, I truly cannot say which route(s) I would choose. As a physician, however, I advise patients to learn--truly LEARN and KNOW--ALL of their options, to NOT panic at their diagnosis, to MAKE A PLAN with respect to their treatment, and to be their own ADVOCATE or to have someone who is their advocate since navigating the medical system can be extremely overwhelming. And once within the system, getting out of it if/when one decides to do so is as difficult and stopping and getting off that proverbial "merry-go-round" on the playgrounds of our youths.
Thank you. Beth A. Bigham, MD

PS. The 4-star rating I gave above is not necessarily accurate, since I have not yet read the materials--only that I am more than optimistic that I will agree with much of what is contained therein. --BAB

Words could not express the amount of gratitude I have for the author of this book. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer three months ago. I started stuffing her with veggies and fruits, etc. as the book recommends (among other things). Upon her follow up appointment with the doctor her blood work was much better. The book gives a lot of helpful information, that the doctors do not tell you about. They tell you to exercize but they never explain WHY... which makes you LEAST likely to comply. Nor do doctors ever tell you to change your diet when you're diagnosed with cancer. They simply tell you to live your life like "normal". As if that is possible when you are faced with the "Big C". The author gives a TON of information about nutrition, supplements, attitude, etc. This book gave us hope that we can take control of the disease and fight back. While skeptics may say that there is no guarantee nutrition will cure cancer, the same can be said of chemo and radiation. This book certainly made me see things in a positive light and gave my mother and my family the faith (along with God) and desire to fight back. I HIGHLY recommend this book to patients and loved ones facing cancer. Together, you CAN beat it.

Reviewer Permalink
After checking many books referred by friends and my own research, my oncologist recommended this book. I had stage 4 metastasized breast cancer and it has been my best guide and reference of the dozens of books that I have. I am almost done with treatment and it continues to be the guide for my next step. Combining nutrition and traditional treatments made my side effects almost nil as I continued to work full time. This will be the primary book I refer anybody that asks about preventing or treating cancer. The right Doctor helps tremendously.

Excellent book to own if you or someone you love has cancer! Author breaks things down in laymen's terms. You don't have to be a scientist to figure out what he's talking about. He also has supplemental vitamins that are great for cancer patients. Nutrition is SO important--the basis for life. It's too bad that the general public doesn't know even the basics of nutrtion. This book is a must have!!

I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book

I bought this book for a friend whose daughter is battling osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The book backed up information she had received from a highly respected nutritionist and supplemented that information as well. My friend said the book really helped her understand what the nutritionist was saying and why. She found the CD ROM helpful too and handy while spending a lot of hours waiting in doctor's offices.

A must for anyone recently diagnosed with cancer. Many Quacks have cancer cures. A cancer patient needs to be aware of not waisting their precious time on "snake oil" cures. This books information is well documented with legitimate major medical center and university studies. The information is also easily cross referenced with other doctors findings. I would advise anyone fighting cancer to implement the books recommendations. It certainly aided me in my successful recovery.

I was diagnosed with Head and Neck cancer on July 10th. My first reaction was, my life is coming to an end. I was confused, scared, angry and having remorse, all at the same time. I searched internet to read everything I could find to explain my situation and to get a glimmer of hope. Then I found Dr. Quillin and "Beating Cancer with Nutrition". Hope and direction for the cancer patient is now available in an easy to read non-technical book. You have to love The American Cancer Society, but quite frankly, I understand very little of what I read. My Oncologist is not a Nutritional Doctor and I am now in the process of discussing my treatment in great detail. I firmly believe that my cancer is not worse because the the supplement program that I put myself on two years ago. At the same time, my diet and type of foods that I eat changed. Dr. Quillin has confirmed that I did the right thing. We shall fight! Anything less than complete remission is not an option! God bless you all!

We really appreciated how the author gave definitions to the medical terms in simple language. It help to comprehend and have a deeper understanding of how the body works. We've read it once and we are half way through it again and plan to read it 1 or 2 more times. We use the immunopower pills and powder. We originally started out with Stage 2 breast cancer with 9 cancerous lymph nodes. Now we have Stage 4 with bone metasis. That is after 30 rounds of radiation and 5 doses of chemo and some follow up pills taken daily. Example: Femara, Aromasin, etc. We are currently taking Cantron, Quillin diet and supplements. We are in the lawn service business. My husband and I mow at least 90 lawns in 4 days, so we get plenty of exercise. And of course our strong belief in God and His plans and purposes. We do not know where we stand now as we have not been tested for 3 months. We plan to be retested in 6 months to see if there has been a change. If we remember we will try to let you know what the outcome is. Thank you for your positive attitude and your very studied knowledge. Sincerely, Linda

The book Beating Cancer with Nutrition: Combining the Best of Science and Nature for Full Spectrum Healing in the 21st Century can be helpful in the battle with cancer. The prevention and treatment of cancer and the other harmful diseases depends on the understanding of the universe because life is evolution of the cosmos at atomic scales. Eugene Savov's theory of interaction discovers the hierarchical 3D-spiral fabric of reality and its universal properties. The theory of interaction explains the mysterious mechanisms of pattern formation and self-organization at every scale and complexity. This qualitatively new knowledge is essential for the progress in the notoriously difficult field of cancer research. The discovered complete understanding of the universe shows that we are made of atomic size stars and so we have enormous resources to wage a battle for our health.

Hello,

In Feb '06, my mother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. That diagnosis resulted in the removal of the tumor in her colon, 40% of her liver, and overaries. She began chemo in April '06 and followed the advice from this book and other sources of what you should do to stengthen your body to fight off the cancer and potential side effects of chemo. She's been such a fighter, blending and drinking her own vegetable juices (carrots, kale, broccoli), drinking wheat grass shots, avoiding sugar, eating whole grains, taking supplements, vitamins (Immunopower 3.0) and praying. She just finished her 6th chemo session yesterday and she feels and looks great. Not only did she return back to her full-time job during session 2, she didn't lose her hair, nails, develope mouth sores or get dry skin. To her surprise as well as mine, her nails have never been so strong as they are now. Even her doctor's are surprised how strong her blood work is. By session 6, her white blood count is suppose to be low but instead hers are very strong. I am not sure what the future holds but I do believe GOD's help can be found in the right food! DARK GREEN VEGGIES SUCH AS BROCCOLI!!!!

After eliminating my coffee habit with the help of a wonderful book called The Truth About Caffeine: How Companies That Promote it Deceive Us and What We Can Do About It, I'm feeling so much better. My doctor recommended it to help eliminate my acid reflux called by the acid in coffee. Buy the book.

Yes, Dr MAX GERSON, called "the most eminent geniuses in the history of medicine", said it. You can cure even advanced cancer by Diet theraphy. He said that many, many years ago. He died in 1959, and now science is starting to accept the fact that Diet does influence our health and can prevent and even cure cancer.
Read his book. I don't agree 100% with everything he said, (for example: about drinking fresh calf liver juice), but I could say that I support his ideas 95%. Read about his work and get your own conclusions.

This book gives great nutrition advice. It provides a great amount of easy-to-follow recommendations for improving your response to chemotherapy and for increasing your chances at a complete remission. I have full faith in it and this book induces me to follow the dietary way of maintaining health by taking nitrated food to prevent cancer. More important information provides M. Tombak in his book "Cure the Incurable" as well as at starthealthylife .

My husband bought an earlier version of this book almost 7 years ago when I was given 8 weeks to live. The uterine cancer had metasticized to my lungs and bones. I had a large tumor on my pelvic bone which caused excruciating pain when I walked and even at rest. We followed the book exactly and yes, we bought the Immunopower which was very expensive, but you can't put a price on your life. The only thing I did differently was avoid all meat entirely. I still do not eat meat. My oncologist calls me his "miracle" patient. I've been cancer free for 7 years even though my oncologist said I had a very "aggressive" cancer and it definitely would return. Organic veggies, a juicer, Essiac tea, Immunopower and lots of prayer saved my life.

(Hide Review...)  Please add selenium; read below

The cancer-fighting nutrient most proven to date is selenium. A daily supplement of 200 microgram of selenium, has been shown in a large placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study -- the most prestigious type of scientific study of nutrients and drugs -- to cut the death rate from cancer in half.

Specifically, a large group of people who were given each day a yeast tablet enriched with 200 micrograms (mcg) of selenium had only half the number of deaths from cancer over a seven year period as a similarly large control group who were given a daily yeast tablet containing no selenium. Yeast tablets enriched with 200 mcg of selenium are readily available at pharmacies as well as health stores across the U.S. for about $5 or so for a bottle of 50 to 100 tablets -- only 10 cents or less per day.

The results of this dramatic study were published in the medical profession's own journal: The Journal of the American Medical Association. Nevertheless, most doctors pay no attention to the results. Think about that, selenium (at 10 cents per day or less) has been shown in a large clinical study to cut the death rate from cancer in half and nobody tells the public about it. Incredible! In my opinion, as a research chemist, everybody in the U.S. should take supplemental selenium every day.

Other nutrients which help prevent cancer include vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10, and lycopene.

(Hide Review...)  A Solid book - when there is so much waffle out there

This is one of a rare breed of nutrition books that is science-based. Every chapter has dozens of reported scientific research articles that supports every thing covered in that chapter. None of this "trust me" self-promoting waffly nonsense. Just solid, specific, well-referenced information on how people (for instance) on Tamoxifen treatment for breast cancer can increase the effeciveness of the treatment AND lower the side effects of it by taking vitamins and minerals. I wish I had the book with me, or I would be more specific. I have lent it to a school chum who is fighting his own cancer battle.

Read the other reviews. They convinced me before I bought it.

This book is a mine of information.

Oh, and the Immunopower supplement mix you can buy - is over 400 bucks worth, for just 100 bucks. If you think you are being ripped off just try pricing the ingredients separately. Go to www.lef.org and check it out.

Dr Quillan has written an excellent book. Especially the nutrition aspect. My only complaint is that there are literally hundreds of supplements to choose from. For me, it was a little overwhelming. At times, it felt like searching for a needle in a haystck. After suffering through BRUTAL chemo for 12 treatments that made me DEATHLY ill, I am convinced that I could not go through that again. The oncologist predicts this rare form of lymphoma will be back in about 5 years. So, I consulted a naturopath to help direct me, and to my surprise almost everything she currently has me on is found in Dr. Quillan's book. Plus, I have never eaten healthier in my life. Thank you Dr. Quillan! I hope to prove the oncologist wrong!
