(Hide Review...)  Great overview of Information Marketing and its benefits
Reviewer Permalink
When this book was released, it was the only traditionally published book that covered information products. Still, even with several new books out, this one offers a good basic primer on information marketing. Some have criticized the book for including traditional and hard copy content creation, but in fact those were the original information products (the booklets bought through mail order or the "course" bought through infomercials). The Internet has made it faster, cheaper and easier to create and sell digital products and Stephanie does include information on how to do this (ebooks, teleseminars, etc). I think it is helpful that she includes the hard copy versions as well as offline marketing information in the book. It makes the book more complete and show just how vast the information marketing business can be. The book also highlights how these products can be used to help you build a platform, show your expertise and expand an existing business.

(Hide Review...)  Opened my eyes to the possibilities of online sales
Reviewer Permalink
I didn't no much about online sales before I read this book. I was so surprised by many of the ways people are making money online, and now I am trying to emulate them and do it myself.

Some things you might not know!

- One lady sells tips booklets online and makes an extraordinary amount of money. These are not even original tips, but she on-sells them and they are only a few dollars so you end up buying a few. Great idea - use it in your website.

- If you have a book, make it an e-book, then split it into chapters and sell as cheaper products. Includes ideas for multiple ways to use your own content.

- Referred me to "The Publicity Hound" whose e-zine I love and is full of useful information for marketing and publicity

Recommended if you have just started with online business.

If you are a writer, or aspire to be one, this book can give you a wider perspective on the possibilities you can create for yourself as an author. The main idea the book presents is to expand your offerings beyond your book and create other related products that you can sell alongside your book.

Examples include seminars, pamphlets, online classes, and coaching. This book is a good resource when you need to stimulate your mind for fresh ideas on growing your writing into a bigger business.

Stephanie Chandler's attention to detail and extensive research clearly paid off in this value-packed resource for anyone looking to provide information on the Internet. The book takes you through a step-by-step process from determining the subjects to write about to online placement that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. She provides a great variety of resources to help anyone get started; no matter their expertise or experience. I highly recommend this book to the Internet newbie or the experienced techie - either way, you'll be thankful you read this book.

I went to the book store looking for books on home based information business, and this is a one stop resource. Information has become the hottest commodity to sell, because it can very valuable to consumers and has very high profit margins for creators.

She has infopreneur profiles (people who are already successful), tips for writing information, finding the write information to write about, getting published, publicizing yourself, making online streams of income, establishing a brand for yourself, and a bunch more invaluable information. This is a must have book for all those leaning towards learning about information business.

I found this book to be a great reference tool for getting me accustomed to the language and media available for online marketing. If I can learn at least two valuable pieces of information from a publication that I didn't know prior to reading it, it makes it worth the price.

Recommendation: if an Amazon book listing has a "see inside" option, take a peek at the Table of Contents. It's a good indicator of whether you can expect general informaton on a topic, or in-depth. Clearly, if the "how to sell a book on Amazon" section is 2 pages long, you can expect generalized content. If you want an in-depth read on that subject, find one written specifically about selling a book on Amazon.

Again, several pieces of information in this read were valuable to ME. I'm sure other newbies to the genre will feel the same way.

This book was excellent. I have no idea why there are bad reviews. This book is full of great ideas and useful tidbits, and I've been studying this topic for years. I loved this book because I actually pulled information from it that I could use--if you can pull 5 ideas from a book, then it was worth the time. It was not high-level at all. Most of the books you read on this topic are full of empty promises (You can do it! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Hip, hip hooray!, and all that kind of useless crap). But this author did her research thoroughly. This book was worth every penny. I do not know the author but I look forward to other books by her.

I only have one problem with this book: IT WILL GIVE YOU TOO MANY IDEAS! Every content-filled page carries with it the ability to inspire you with literally hundreds of new income producing ideas and techniques. Luckily the author, Stephanie Chandler, also gave great advice on listing and prioritizing those ideas and start with the best opportunities. Never has a book demonstrated so clearly how easy it is to start sharing your expertise with the world and profit from it quickly.

People who have made it big have great stories but most people are looking for a step-by-step way they can use to make it themselves. This book does a great job at combining just enough theory followed by massive amounts of how-to's.

The author had the insight to include "real-life" infopreneur profiles at the end of each chapter. This adds tremendous value and gives the reader a sense that, "Hey, there really are people out there doing this and they started out just like me."

Another valuable feature is the mountain of resources the author included. She has succeeded with her goal of helping the reader "navigate through the business of selling information." And she is definitely inspiring.

This book will linger in your head long after you've read it. In fact, the information provided is so action oriented with so many ideas and resources, you will have to intentionally keep yourself from making money.

Buy the book. Tell others about it. It just may be the jump start you need!

I have read a lot of books on information marketing and most are very sketchy at best. Not so with Stephanie's book. It is one of the few information marketing books that once you are finished reading it you will have a good grasp of how the information marketing business works and you can start making money.

There are a lot of information marketing Gurus that have not been able to communicate information marketing into a easily understandable business model like Stephanie has been able to in her book.

Stephanie has a keen way of showing how any of us can make money in this most unique business.

I owe you big time Stephanie. `Thank You'

A great book, and one worth picking up. While I already knew a great deal of the information covered in the book; Stephanie has distilled it even further into easy-to-understand bites. She also digs deep into the specific areas, showing different avenues for marketing that I had never thought of. The infopreneur profiles sprinkled throughout the book was also a great idea, and there is valuable information in those as well so don't skip them!
All in all, a highly enjoyable and informative book. I've read it through twice now, and it has earned its place on my shelf of oft-referenced books.

(Hide Review...)  Best Book I've Read All Year! (And I read TON of Books)
Reviewer Permalink
Every year I go through about 200 books not to mention audio CD's and DVD's I watch on marketing, sales, motivation, getting things done and more.
This book had some ideas I had never thought of or heard. (And no, I'm not new to this.)

I was really surprised when I got it. From the other reviews, I expected a good book, but it was way better than what I expected.

The profiles of people who have "been there done that" were great.
I love reading things like that as I suspect a lot of people do.

Not only did the people who have been successful give a profile of what they've done and more, they even gave step by step of how they did a lot of it.

In addition to the profiles and great tips, there are tons of helpful resources in the book. Pretty much covering all aspects of selling info products in all formats. (Ebooks, printed books, videos, audio CD's, and tons more)

The people who gave it two stars either can't read or didn't get it.
(To be fair to them, there aren't a lot of pictures in the book so maybe that's what made it harder for them to understand)

Thanks!
Patrick

If you're just starting your journey as an infopreneur, than this book is a good starting point. If you've already spent some time researching this industry and/or already have your own publishing business, you already know most of this.

I was very excited to read the book, based on other reviews, but it didn't take me long to realize that I wasn't going to learn anything new. The information is so basic, the author never really gets into any detail about anything. The book can't get you past deciding what type of infopreneur you want to be, because each chapter is so short on concrete how-tos.

What I did like about the book were the interviews with successful inforpreneurs, but I was hoping they were longer. The few tips I picked up were from those interviews, which means they were from other people the author interviewed. Still, if you know nothing about this and are just trying to get an idea of how to go about it, you would probably find the book useful.

(Hide Review...)  A Worth-While Investment
Reviewer Permalink
In the last few days, I completed reading Stephanie Chandler's excellent book, From Entrepreneur to Infopreneur: Make Money with books, E-Books and Information Products. She points to some different resources than I've used in the past and has solid information. I liked her focus as she says in the preface, "My goal is always to exceed my customer expectations and this strategy has served me well in every business endeavor." I identified with this goal because it's also been my intention as I've created products or magazine articles or my teaching at writers' conferences (like this coming week at the Florida Writers Association). It was good to read Chandler's line, "There is an eager market of buyers out there. My goal is to show you how to develop and market your own products. One of the greatest advantages of selling information products is that they can essentially become passive income--money you make while you sleep. Once the work is done and you've created a high-quality product, and you've automated the product sales and delivery process, your primary role will be to continue marketing your products. That's where the real fun begins."

Here's several basics that Chandler highlights for the reader saying, "There is no single secret to success, though there are many tips to help you along the way...

Everyone is an expert at something: Whatever your expertise, whether it's fly fishing, yoga, parenting, knitting, sales or customer service, you have something to teach others who know less than you do.

The Internet is a powerful venue for reaching customers: Learn to maximize your reach in order to run an efficient and profitable business.

Marketing is an investment in your business: Rare is the business that succeeds without marketing. Try a variety of strategies and repeat the ones that work best.

Don't be afraid to ask questions: Nobody has all the answers and most people are willing to help. Just ask!

Invest in other people's information products: Not only will you have the chance to learn something new, but you can evaluate the content and begin to understand the formula for success. It's also good karma to support people whose work you admire.

Persevere: My favorite word in the English language. There will be days when you feel as if you are spinning your wheels for nothing. But eventually, with enough effort, something magical happens. It all starts to come together.

Never stop learning: I don't care what industry you are in. Things change. Rules change. People change. Stay on top of your area of expertise. Learn about new technology. Remember how much fun it can be to learn something new and how rewarding it is to succeed." (page xi to xii)

My reason for ranking this book at four stars instead of five relates to some of the choices for the Infopreneur Profiles scattered throughout the book. I'm personally familiar with a number of these people. In particular one of the people profiled (I'll not say which one here) isn't in what I would categorize as "successful." I'm on a large online group with this person who is regularly sending out "prayer" for financially related issues. This single choice made me question whether Chandler prodded with enough questions when she selected these people to highlight. Yet even with this shortcoming, the information in this book is solid and I recommend From Entrepreneur to Infopreneur. Read it and you will be sure to learn something.

I did not find this book very useful. I felt that she covered very basic information. Usually when I read these types of books I also enjoy the Case Studies / Testimonials. The interviews she used were not very interesting and the main takeaway I took from them were - setting up your own web business means that I can make money even while I sleep.

If you are interested in getting your book published, she does provide you with good resources on how to do so. However, if you are looking for exciting Website books - this probably isnt the right book for you.

Reviewer Permalink
Based on the other Amazon reviews, I purchased this book. After reading it, and being thoroughly disappointed, I realized, on second glance, that most of the reviews here are from other authors, who seemed to give it the thumbs up.

I expected this book to tackle more issues with regard to eBooks, in terms of generation and advertising, and the information contained in this book on this subject was scant, to say the least. Most of the book addresses methods for promoting printed books, which is misleading (in my eyes) and conflicts with the words "eBook" and "Information Products", which appear on the front cover. Many of the ideas presented for advertising - TV, radio, seminars, etc., are well outside the bounds of the average author. Lots of regurgitated concepts that we've seen hundreds of times before in other books.

There are basically only 1 or 2 small chapters that are relevant to eBooks, and there are major omissions in that regard - no description of ClickBank (the pre-eminent leader in eBook distribution) other than a quick reference, and only a one page discussion of PPC advertising, which has to be addressed more thoroughly in this type of book.

I did find a couple of useful tidbits and website references, but it certainly didn't justify the price of the book.

(Hide Review...)  Complete Guide - Excellent resource
Reviewer Permalink
From Entrepreneur to Infopreneur is a wonderful resource for anyone who sees the value in creating a passive income source from their current area of expertise - either hobby or profession. If you don't understand or see the value in becoming an Infopreneur, then this book is definitely for you.

The book is well written, organized and full of valuable information. It offers an easy to understand, step-by-step guide for the entrepreneur to transform their business and become an information marketer.

It is very easy for the entrepreneur to under estimate the market potential for their knowledge. Stephanie does an excellent job of illustrating how to take the knowledge we have acquired and to package it into a valuable product that can generate income on a passive basis. The internet has made it possible - actually easy - for anyone to package and sell their knowledge worldwide.

While it is often referred to as passive income, Stephanie is quick to point out that creating an informational product is simply the first step. If you are not willing to actively market your product/idea then you will have wasted a lot of time and energy in creating it. The income might be passive but there is this huge need for very active marketing. But do not despair. All the steps and instructions for effective marketing are in the book.

The book is full of hints, helpful tips and resources. I had read less than 30 pages when I was given a suggestion that made me put the book down and implement it. There are literally hundreds of helpful website addresses in the book. In addition there are profiles of successful infopreneurs, explaining what they do and how they did it.

One other extremely valuable lesson that is hammered home throughout the book is the value of becoming a recognized expert in your field. There is nothing like publishing book(s), articles, special reports, etc, that will establish your credibility as an expert. This can dramatically increase your value and thus income from other sources.

The book has way too much information to absorb in just one reading. If you are serious about becoming an informational marketer, read it a couple of times and then use it as a handy reference. A great resource for those just starting out or the seasoned infopreneur.

I've been playing with information products as a new direction for my home business for a couple of years now. I've had three different e-books on the edge of completion ... stalled. I have two websites designed and ready to sell my info products ... with nothing to sell and no idea how to go any further. I happened across this book, bought it on impulse, and read it cover to cover in two nights. Eight days later I've sold over $1,200 in info products on one of my websites following the author's exceptional advice and instruction. The "Infopreneur Profiles" were fantastic. I checked out all of their sites/products and learned a lot. The "Directory of Resources" was phenomenal and well-used. Ms. Chandler's writing style is direct and instructional while being entertaining and even motivating at the same time. Not only did I get exactly what I needed to light my fire and guide me the rest of the way to ebook success - but this book opened my eyes to related concepts and new ideas I can't wait to follow up on. I'd love to meet the author - just to give her a hug! If you want to make money selling information products (online or otherwise) this book will be significant in helping you reach your goals. Ms. Chandler, I think your book is underpriced. I would have paid more and now that I've read it - I would have paid a lot more!

This book surely packs a lot of good ideas for making a good book and good ideas for market and sell your books and other published products.

Unless you are a well known author, no matter how you produce your books (paper books or ebooks) and no matter what publishers you work with, you must do a lot of marketing yourself or your books will be covered with dust on the book shelf for eternity.

This book surely gives you a lot of good ideas for getting your book to the potential readers. The book gives you a good list of "what" you need to do. But it does not teach you "how" to do them.

If you plan to publish and sell on Amazon and beyond, you may want to check out this book: LyX! THE ZEN OF SELF PUBLISHING! I make lots of money on the Internet. But I'm adding Stephanie's advice to what I'm already doing. The only problem is: There are so many great tips that it make take the ten years to implement them all.

As with all "self help" advice: you need to do more than read the book. Read it. Believe it. Then do it.

When I bought this book on Amazon I was hoping to get some tips and resources for the burgeoning world of online content -- eBooks, reports, newsletters, etc. In that regard, this book was a disappointment. 90% of the content relates to authors who are publishing for print. If you are getting a book traditionally published or self-published, you may benefit. If your focus is online content, I would keep looking.

I feel like the title misrepresents the content. "Getting your book published" or "publishing and marketing your book" are more apt. If I didn't feel a little duped by the promise of content, I would probably up my rating to 3 stars. Only chapter 6 and maybe part of chapter 7 (less than 20 pages) focus on anything other than the traditional publishing model.

Let's see -- out of 225 informative pages, approximately half of them are folded, luring me back to follow-up on the advice. This isn't a book you are going to breeze through and then re-post in Marketplace or on e-Bay. No, this is a book that you will hold and treasure.

Why is this book great? Because Stephanie Chandler not only tells you what to do, but SHOWS you how to do it -- the very book is the living proof that what she says works. She's doing what she describes.

For example, Chapter Six is all about ebooks and special reports. In fact, she interviews other so-called "infopreneurs" and one professes to have no interest in hardcopy books because "... I make way more money with ebooks."

You can tell, in fact, that Stephanie herself compiled a collection of her ebooks or electronic reports to form the foundation for this book. Several times throughout the book she refers to creating and selling specific lists, as she has done, and then, lo-and-behold, Chapter 11 offers you 16 tactics for book marketing. Did this chapter used to be an e-book from her site? Probably. In fact, it probably still is. It that cool? You betcha!

I'm glad she compiled all this information together and sold it for the price of a paperback. Yes, some of the interviewees may sound avaricious(more than half boast about the money they make or state that money is their sole motivation), but I'm glad Ms. Chandler decided to offer this collection of information for the bargain basement price of $19.95, rather than chopping it up into bits for $39.95 a pop. (But YOU can do that, if you know how, and that's what this book is all about). - Brent Sampson, author of Self-Publishing Simplified

Stephanie Chandler didnt miss too much info on the topic of getting traffic to your site. The resources and links that were given were very helpful and worth the price of the book alone. A lot of space was given to writing and promoting your book, but I found the information helpful.
Every page of this book was useful and well thought out.

If you have information products to market but aren't sure how to get started, this is the perfect place to begin.

I still have to re-read this book and absorb all the great information. It is a keeper...one to go back to again and again.

(Hide Review...)  Info Products rule in the "Information Overload Age"
Reviewer Permalink
We are not in the information age, but rather the information overload age. People handle information overload by seeking out experts, and publishing information products helps make you an expert. Experts benefit by selling information products or perhaps giving them away to help further establish their expertise, which can lead to more and better work.

I often blog on how bloggers should repackage their information into information products like books, ebooks, special reports, audio CDs etc. Stephanie Chandler's recent book is a great and pretty thorough overview of information products -- creating, marketing and more, that I'll be recommending to many people.

I know this topic pretty well having aided several clients in producing and marketing info products, and this book is simply full of solid advice. I'm not sure how I could have made it better had I written it myself, and it's usually easy to offer constructive criticism in hindsight. I certainly learned a few things, and the book has a nice organization and flow.

I particularly liked the Infopreneur Profiles, perhaps in part because I know several of them personally. Great choices!

If I had to make one criticism, it would be the amount of coverage to traditional books. Then again, they are the "original" info product and the best at establish one as an "expert."

There is a ton of great information in this book: how to set up your website, how to market your site, how to create products (ebooks, teleseminars, reports, etc.), how to get published, and how to automate the whole process. I really liked the interviews with people who are doing this successfully (Joe Vitale, Dan Poynter and others). There were plenty of real world examples and a lot of details I wouldn't have thought about otherwise. Now I have a great strategy for launching my info product business.

If your business is writing and selling self-improvement books, than this for you. It gives examples on how to publish and distribute your trade.

If you are trying to target a niche (e.g. members on your NON-Self-improvement directed website) with the hopes of generating data that could be useful to them, than you should look elsewhere.

Stephanie Chandler has found her niche in sincerely helping others find theirs. She is dedicated to a "content rich" book that leaves nothing unanswered. Make no mistake, there is a lot to learn; without this book as your teaching guide, you would no doubt waste time and perhaps never discover some of the most valuable insight to move you toward the goal of making money while you sleep.
