I finally had the chance to read "Hooker To Housewife" by Joy King. The book was off the hook. Joy told a great story that put you in the center of the Hollywood/Music industry. You felt her characters need and desperations. She took Chantal from Hooker to.......(gotta read it). I haven't read "Dirty Little Secrets", but from what I understand that Tyler was brought back from the first story. I love how she made all of her characters real and appealing. The drama that unfolded between Chantal, Andre, Tyler and T-Roc was a total real life type of rollercoaster. She also did a great job in leaving a nice clifhanger for the sequal titled "Superstar".

I was a little wary about reading this book because I really didn't enjoy this author's first one. But I decided to give her second book a shot because Joy (the author) is really VERY, VERY nice! I just recently started a Black author section in my store and she sent me a huge bag of bookmarks and postcards! How can you not like someone who helps you out and shows you love? Anyway, I ordered one for store, bought it, and read it. Now I have to be honest...

I almost stopped reading this book... almost. The beginning reminded me too much of her first one and some of the wording was just really strange. I don't know what the turning point was but I did finish it and ended up (sorta) liking it. Joy's skill has definitely grown since her first novel and no doubt will continue. This was one of those books where you yell at the characters because they are so incredibly stupid and so full-of-it! Chantal and Andre deserve each other and I'm through with them and their insane drama.

I know this was fiction but even then it was hard for me to believe that Chantal was smart enough to pull off some of the stuff she did. It was interesting to read about the world of the "rich and infamous". To hear men referred to as "sponsors" and women scheming to trap them with a "million dollar baby" was pretty interesting. Then to read about the men, going through women like socks, AND the woman putting up with it as long as the paper is right!! Seems like a dream world for some and a hell world for others.

Although Andre was no good I found myself rotting for him because Chantal was just too grimy. She wasn't even trying to hide hers and I wanted to reach in this book and knock her tha' h*** out!! My biggest problem with this book was there was (still) too much justification in the characters and their actions. And like I said earlier, there was some really strange wording and phrases in this book. I'm sure that will work itself out overtime.

All that being said: I DID enjoy this book, I will be stocking this one in my store and recommending it to my customers, I will read her next one, and I will stop staring at her picture on her MySpace page!!

This book was good, but a little too detailed on how pretty Chantal Morgan was. Well not to tell the story but Chantal wasn't pretty enough. She wanted something, went above and beyond to get it, but did achieve it. "Looks" can only take you so far, especially if you have a nasty attitude to match. The book ended on the good part, and I can't wait for the sequel. Last but not least.. Joy King is a terrific writer!!

This book was excellent and I loved it. Chantal was so pathetic that I felt sorry for her, and the rest of the cast were brilliant. The storyline is just like a soap opera with cliffhangers and everything. I'm waiting on book 3, and to fellow book reviewer M. Walton, I totally agree with you...DAMN! Ms. King, great storytelling.

Hooker to Housewife is the story of Chantal Morgan, Andre Jackson, and Tyler Blake. It is a sequel to the book "Dirty Little Secrets", where the reader was first introduced to Tyler Blake.

Let me preface this review by saying that in the past, I have greatly enjoyed Joy/Deja King's writing style. I enjoyed both books about Precious Cummings (hate the titles of those book, but like the books), and I also enjoyed "Dirty Little Secrets". However, with Diamond Playgirls and Hooker to Housewife, I feel like Joy/Deja has lost some of her "freshness" The thing I admired about her, was her ability to tell a familiar story in a different vein. Her abitlity to make things POP. Make them new. Unfortunately, this story was a tired tune to an all too-familiar refrain.

I have read this "love triangle", "crazy jump-off", "star-crossed lovers who can't get together" story line over one thousand times. Joy brought nothing new to the story this time around.

The thing I liked most about "Dirty Little Secrets", was it kept me thinking, "I wonder how many pretty young girls are really out here like this." The thing I disliked the most about "Hooker to Housewife" was that it kept me thinking, "who the hell is out here like this?" I was also disappointed in the lack of development of the love relationship between Tyler and Andre. One page they were co-stars with a mutual attraction, the next page they couldn't live without each other. It just wasn't realistic, and I was never able to sympathize, empathize or otherwise with the lovestruck couple.

"Hooker to Housewife" introduces Chantal Morgan, long term girlfriend and baby momma of Andre Jackson. Andre is a talented musician and has it all. Chantal did what most people thought was impossible; she used her body to get her to the top and landed Andre. But after five years, all she got was a ring with nothing behind it.

Tyler Blake is getting her big break in Hollywood and it's all thanks to her new, older, married director boyfriend. Trying to find her leading man for the movie, she ends up crossing paths with T-Roc. The role ends up going to Andre and before you know it, they fall in love. But in the background there are two people determined to break this love triangle up.

I enjoyed reading all the drama in this book. I think Joy King did an excellent job following up from "Dirty Little Secrets." I thought that Tyler Blake was over the drama, but she definitely encountered more in this sequel. Chantal Morgan's character was very interesting as well because you saw so many sides to her. She was the ruthless gold digger, the insecure girlfriend, and then you saw a sensitive side to her. This was a great read from beginning to end.

They say you can't make a ho into a housewife but they've never met Chantal Morgan. Chantal knew early that she was destined to be somebody special in the game. She also knew that she would have to make a way for herself since she didn't come for the right side of the track. Chantal set her sights for the bright lights of NYC and found her man, Andre Jackson. That is until she met her match, a Hollywood chick on the come up, Tyler Blake.

King weaves a tangled web of love, lust, and destruction as the lives of Andre, Tyler, Chantal, and T-Roc come together. Andre realizes that he doesn't love Chantal but he may have to settle for what he got. T-Roc is in love with Tyler and will do all he can to make it happen. As T-Roc and Chantal work together to be with the people they love all hell breaks loose. The Hollywood tabloids are in for some interesting news while the elite crowd won't know what hit them.

HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is a fabricated tale of baby mama drama, million dollar clothes, houses, cars and whores along with big ballers in the entertainment industry. The back stabbing and dirt down on a daily basis between friends makes you afraid of what happens to their enemies. The storyline slows down towards chapter five and one of the key characters doesn't enter the storyline until chapter eight adding to the lull. However, the ending will leave you demanding more. King has a knack for writing; make sure you check her out.

This was my first book by Joy King and I must say I was very impressed with it. It was a great read.

The book was about Chantal and Tyler competing for one mans a heart, Mr Andre Jackson. Andre Jackson is a superstar trying to break into the acting feild, to follow his fahters dream. Chantal is a gold digging upper class hooker, but she has decided to give up that life style because she has falling in love with the wonderful hoeish Andre. She trapped him by having his child now all she has to do is get him to marry her. Lastly Tyler Blake is a up and coming movie star. That has falling madly in lone with Andre, all seems nice ,but will thier past keep getting in the way?

This book started out kind of interesting but about four chapters in I got tired of reading about how beautiful the characters where without the author fully describing them. The lack of detail had me always visualizing the characters. I also got bored with the back and forth love triangle. After a while I really wanted these characters to make their minds up and move on to the next topic. Also I had trouble believing how in-love the character Andre Jackson was with Tyler, that relationship really need to be developed early on in order for me to sympathizes with their compassion. I just need to know that he loved Tyler more for ther beauty and stardom. I'm sorry but the last three chapters I skipped over, the writer just kept going on and on about the same topics page after page. This book just didn't satisfy at the end. BORING!!!!

HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is the deliciously steamy sequel to last year's
Dirty Little Secrets. Tyler Blake is living the life of her dreams.
She is a movie star who commands attention wherever she goes. She is
in love with the man she desires, even though he is married.
Additionally she is in the midst of filming the movie that will
solidify her superstar status. But will she be able to withstand the
storm life is preparing to bring her way?

Chantel Morgan is also living the glamorous life. She leaves her
impoverished life with her parents after her high school graduation
for the bright lights of Hollywood, where she plans to make all of
her dreams come true. Chantel plans to get the biggest baller. Andre
Jackson has everything Chantel wants -- status, money, looks and a
promising career. Chantel gives him his first-born child and all she
needs to cement her status is getting Andre to marry her. Unbeknownst
to her, Andre has no plans to marry her, because he is in love with
Tyler Blake.

HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is a knock-your-socks off, drama-filled book that
hooks the reader from the very first chapter. Joy King does an
excellent job of making Chantel a likeable character, even though the
reader will want to hate her due to her evil machinations and nasty
attitude. HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE is a cautionary tale for young women
who believe the only way to obtain a successful life is to become
dependent on a man. Even though it is sequel, HOOKER TO HOUSEWIFE can
be read before Dirty Little Secrets. Joy King's second novel far
exceeded my expectations due to the excellent characterization and
the easy flow of the novel. I look forward to reading more novels by
Joy King in the future.

In Joy King's `Hooker to Housewife', you meet Chantal Morgan; a woman
with dreams of making it big using her beauty to obtain a man with
deep pockets, who would provide her with her heart's desires. Her
parents exasperated her hunger for the high-life by giving Chantal
whatever she wanted; even if it meant they could not afford their
basic necessities.

Andre Jackson grew up in the music entertainment business. With an R
& B singer for a father, he was exposed to the glamour and women the
industry attracted. Andre had no real respect for women because of
what he had seen and done with the groupies. The only woman he
respected was his mother and it would be a women like her, he
believed, he would marry. That was until he met Chantal.

Chantal and Andre created a whirlwind of chaos as their relationship
hit highs, lows, and in-betweens. The lengths that Chantal went for
permanency in Andre's life were so extreme that they were saddening.
The tugs on Andre's bootstraps could have led to his victory or demise.

`Hooker to Housewife' is the sequel to Joy King's `Dirty Little
Secrets' but is good as a stand-alone novel. King's characters were
believable and I was emotionally invested in each of them.
Forewarning, the back cover synopsis was not an accurate depiction of
the story as a whole. All in all, the novel had a good flow, was an
easy read, and I recommend it to those who are interested in a front
row seat in the life of groupies and sack chasers.

Chantal Morgan has her mind made up and her eye on the prize, and his name and HIS money is Andre Jackson. Chantal's played the game, acquired the skills, sex skills, that is to try and find her a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Andre is a rising star, shining ever so brightly, claiming the fame of being a shot caller. One mistake, he got caught slipping and now's he's Chantal's baby daddy! She's wearing that card out like it's Platinum American Express.

Then enters the infamous Tyler Blake of "Dirty Little Secrets" and she's caught up in the mix of her own drama as she tries to rise to super stardom. Tyler and T-Roc are both stumbling blocks for Chantal's plans.

Deja throws it down with a vengeance with plenty of drama, scheming, manipulation, jealousy galore, and plenty of uncertainty. Although, she pulled a quick one with the ending!!! Gotta love her though!

Deja, you're on the yellow brick road and we're gonna follow and cheer for you all the way to the Wizard!!!!

Blessings to you lil mama!!! Absolutely superb!!!

"Hooker to Housewife" seemed more like a well written Hollywood movie script. That's how exceptional it was.

The characters (Chantal, Andre, Tyler and Chrissie) were crude yet interesting and vibrant. My favorite character was T-Roc although he was a thorn in my side. He was deliciously ruthless. Joy did a great job developing this particular character. One minute, you found him irresistible and the next you despised him. He's a true bad boy in every sense of the word.

Although Tyler (Blake) is flourishing as an actress, there wasn't any true growth to her character from "Dirty Little Secrets". She still continues to make awful decisions when it came to her personal life (dating a married man who happens to be a control freak is a prime example). She even began drinking heavily to ease her sorrow. Make no mistake that my observation doesn't tarnish the book in any way, shape or form. I loved reading "Hooker to Housewife" from beginning to end. I wasn't even saddened that I was left hanging at the end (smile).

Chantal and Andre reminded me of P. Diddy and Kim Porter. But Diddy's savvy enough NOT to "wife" Kim. LMAO

Congratulations on another smash Joy!

Chantal Morgan is determined to get Andre Jackson down the aisle. Still a teenager she leaves her improvished life in Chicago and heads to New York in search of money, fame and the glamorous life. She eventually lands Andre Jackson, the biggest catch in the game and they have a daughter together. Now all she needs to do is stop being his baby mama and become his wife.

Tyler Blake is a rising movie star. She has the fame and and is living the dream life. She is also in love with the man who discovered her, director of her new movie William Donovan or so she thinks until she meets Andre Jackson.

Talk about a love triangle! Chantal Morgan isn't having it. She refuses to allow some movie star to snatch up the man she worked so hard to get. She is willing to destroy everything in her path to make sure she gets the ring and goes from Hooker to Housewife.
