Los Angeles may seem like a simple, quiet city. But behind the scenes, the picture is more complicated than appeared. Vanessa Cleveland wants to be normal; she wants to have a normal life with normal friends, maybe even a boyfriend. But she can't ignore the fact that she can turn invisible and her best friend can travel back in time. When Serena and Jimena show up telling Vanessa that she's "tu es dea, filia lunae," a goddess, a Daughter of the Moon. Not believing this ridiculous tale, she continues life as normal as possible. Then she notices that wherever she goes, its as if someone is following her. That's when she starts to believe. Is Vanessa truly a goddess? If so, does she have enough strength to defeat the all-powerful Atrox? - Goddess of the night is exciting and is an amazing book. Fantasy and romance readers would enjoy the creative twists that Ewing intertwines in the plot. This book is an excellent catch and I would give it a 4.8 out of 5. -Christen

I read these books when I was in 8th or 9th grade. Even though its been a few years since, I still enjoy teen fiction. I never finished the series and decided to finish it now-starting from the beginning. Not what I remembered. The context is very easily read, which i thought at the time as well. Its choppy and lacking emotion- some parts are interesting and the story line is good but the choppiness and low level of vocabulary limit these books.
The problem is, while the writing is very simple- the context isn't completely appropriate for say- an advanced 5th grader. It seems the emotions that are described vividly in this book are lust and attraction. Empathy, fear, and other easily related emotions for the level of writing are not as focused.

Although the "Daughters of the moon" series has been out for a number of years now, I only recently began reading them. I do remember seeing the books at the bookstores, and thinking that the covers looked interesting, which led me to start checking them out from the library a few months ago (unfortunately they don't really sell them at bookstores in my area anymore. But I was lucky enough to find the last one in the series)

The series is based on a greek myth involving Selene the moon goddess, and tells the story of four girls: Vanessa (who has the power to turn invisible), Catty (who can time travel), Serena (who can read minds), and Jimena (who has premonitions), and they are all known as "the daughters of the moon" and are destined to protect the world from an ancient evil called the Atrox.

In this first book, you first meet Vanessa and her best friend Catty, who are already well aware of their abilities, but are not sure why until they meet two other girls, Jimena and Serena, who take them to meet a lady named Maggie (their mentor) who reveals to them that they are moon goddesses.

The good thing about this series is that each character is likeable, and unique.

The bad thing (which I admit made me skip over some of the books) is that some of the storylines in-between the first and last book are completely ridiculous, because the daughters will get themselves into these impossibly hopeless situations which will then be solved quite easily by the end of the book. But I do plan on going back and reading the books that I had skipped over, and I highly recommend that you don't do what I did, because when I was reading the final book (which is really good by the way) I realized that I had missed a lot of interesting things.

And although I'm 19, I think this series is aimed more towards younger girls, because the contents of the books are well suited for younger readers.

But I highly recommend that anyone, no matter what age you are, read these books, because the books are very interesting (and yes ridiculous) and the characters are so likeable that you'll love reading about them and their fight against the atrox.

I checked this book out on a whim, just for something interesting and different to read.

The book wasn't so bad, overall. I just thought that it was slightly corny and predictable. The characters seem like they can get anything they want, despite the fact that they live such terrible, secretive lives. Of course the ending was happy, and of course it's just the first book in a series of however many, but I feel like I shouldn't even bother reading the rest of them. I was entertained, but I just have a feeling that the rest of the series will be repetitive and start to get dull. I'm just going to stop here on a semi-good note.

If I were to pick up this book to read personally, I'd be disappointed--for all the same reasons various adult reviewers have given.

On the other hand, I have the perspective of working in a public library's Youth Services department, and youngish teenagers are gleefully devouring this series as quickly as they can secure copies. If you're considering purchase for a girl age 12-14, you'll likely miss an opportunity to nourish her on higher-quality literature--but you're also likely to get enthusiastic hugs of gratitude, an encouraged reader, and a lot of excitement from your happy teen. She'll be thrilled!

I seriously thought that Lynne Ewing did a fantastic job making up such a wonderful story plot for this series. I really enjoyed this book, and encourage others to read it. It's myterious, since you always want to read more and more to find out about the Goddesses and the troubles they go through with the Atrox & their Flollowers. And the battles that they have with Atroxs. After reading this I knew that Stanton and his Hollywood friends were going to be somehow really important in the other books that follow this one, and it's true. Anyone, that read this book would probably(most likely) would want to read more from these series, it's addicting. I love this series beacuse it's full of mysteries, and excitment, with a little bit of romance and leaves you thinking about the book after you're done with it. You wouldn't want to put the book down.

A girl and her friend have gifts. One is trying to just be normal and just loive a plain old life, the other one thinks its so awsome that she just cant stop useing them. What could happen? What I like most about this book is that it shows and expresses how hard the obstacles she had to go through. Some of the language in the book was inappropiate. My favorite character in the bok was Vaneessa, because she always is trying to be just careful with her powers. Pagee 1 and 2 souded like love at first sight. Sure they were from very different backrounds, they loved eachother. This book would give you a step into the of mystery and suspence. Does she plan to do a sequil on the novle. This book shows how girls stick with eachother, like sisters.

Vanessa and Catty have special powers that they got at birth. They end up finding out that they are goddesses of the moon and Vanessa doesn't like that because she doesn't feel like she fits in with people. When Vanessa finds out her "secret" has been discovered, someone follows her but Vanessa doesn't know who. With the help of Catty and her special power they find out who. The "Goddess of the Night," by Lynne Ewing showed that even if you are different, and have a special power, you should like it and don't try to be someone else.

Vanessa finds out that someone is following her, and asks Catty if she could use her special power, time traveling, and takes her back in time to find out who was following her. When they got to the place, they had a bad landing, but they heard the footsteps of the person that followed Vanessa that night. They followed him through the shadows and found him in a alley. They still couldn't see his figure but all Vanessa heard him say was, "I'll find you when you are alone". Vanessa wishes she doesn't have her special power because then none of this would be happening.

Vanessa had to choose between either being like everyone else, or be different and be able to save her life, and Catty's. At the end, Vanessa doesn't quite understand her power, but she understands who she is, a goddess, and that her power saved her life.

The "Goddess of the Night" is the first book in the "Daughters of the Moon" series. Vanessa, Catty, Serena, and Jimena are all normal girls who live in Los Angeles. They have been friends ever since they figured out who they were. The daughters of the moon all have a secret of their own. Vanessa can become invisible. Catty travels back in time. Serena reads minds, and Jimena has premonitions. Vanessa is the protagonist of this first book.
Vanessa feels as if she is always being followed. She thinks that this person is following her because he/she knows her secret. Vanessa can become invisible. Throughout the book she struggles to find out who she really is. She must learn how to control her molecules so that she doesn't randomly go invisible. This only happens when she gets really exited or nervous.
Maggie is the lady who told Vanessa and her friends about their powers. She helps them learn how to use them properly and who to use them against. From the very start, Vanessa and the other Daughters of the Moon are against a group of people called the Atrox, and its Followers. The Atrox can suck you into their minds and control your thoughts.
Vanessa would most definitely be my favorite character. I can relate to her in many ways. All she wants to do is to be like a normal person, even if she can become invisible. But, when her best friend, Catty, is taken by the Atrox, she must find her and get her back before it is too late.
I would definitely recommend this page-turner to my fellow readers. It's a must read for people who love to read fiction.

Lynne Ewing came up with an amazing story line when she invented Daughters of the Moon. This story is about three teenaged girls who are bound together by friendship, their love for the moon and more than anything their bizarre powers. Vanessa can turn invisible. Chatty can travel threw time. Serena can see into the future.
Vanessa and Chatty have been friends for a long time. Vanessa loves to go to the local club on Tuesdays and Fridays hoping her crush, Michael will ask her to dance. Or even better ask her out. Vanessa doesn't enjoy using her powers because all she wants is to be like all the other normal teen girls that go to her school. Chatty on the other hand loves to skip through time and make the days seam longer to the average normal people. She encourages Vanessa to use her powers. Michael asks Vanessa out and they have a wonderful time, but Vanessa keeps having the feeling someone is following her and Michael. Vanessa goes and tells Chatty and Chatty wants to go investigate while Vanessa doesn't. She just wants things to follow there own path. Without Vanessa knowing Chatty skips backwards in time to the night of her best friend's "big date" and gets captured by a "Follower". Followers suck all hope out of people. Chatty goes missing for a couple weeks. Scared Vanessa turns to the odd girl Serena and finds out about the Daughters of the Moon. With the help of the Daughters of the Moon Vanessa goes and finds Chatty and saves her from the Followers.
This book is full of adventure and allows you to get caught up in a book of adventure and romance. I recommend this book to all teens and any other book by Lynne Ewing should be amazing!

I thought that this book was a great book. It keeps you entertained throughout the whole thing. It starts off with Vanessa walking down the street from Planet Bang and she feels that someone is following her. So, instead of facing it, she runs all the way home. Later on in the book, she starts dating a guy, Michael Saratoga, and whenever she kisses him, she starts to disappear. Well, on their first date, Vanessa is followed again by someone and they run down the hillside. In this book, you find out about the Atrox and their powers. I liked this book a lot. I think that you can really relate to the characters in this book and you really get to like them.
