Charlize Charlie Edwards certainly knows, in theory, what it takes to lead a successful and happy life. She owns a nice house in Silverlake, LAs trendiest neighborhood. She has glamorous and loyal friends who accompany her to the hottest clubs in town. And she works as the personal assistant to Drew Stanton, Hollywoods sexiest movie star. But shes also turning 30, chronically single, and faced with serving as maid of honor at her younger sisters wedding. Charlie finds herself struggling to juggle the chaos of wedding planning (while wondering if shell ever wear the white dress herself), her all-consuming job, and a serious crush on Jordan, a photographer on the set of Drews latest featurea man who might actually return her feelings.

Forgive us "Country Bumpkin" Midwesterners for questioning the attitude expressed through the protagonist in this novel. We may have to take our novel buying dollars elsewhere.

This is my first chick lit and i thought it was great. I usually read more horror/sci fi kind of books and this was a good change. It started out in my opinion kind of slow but once it picked up I couldn't put it down. This book make me cheer, laugh, and even feel bad for the characters. This is the first book I've read and felt like Charlie, Dawn, Drew, and Andy were my friends as well. A book you can really relate too especially if your single or just got out of the single world. Loved it cant say it enough and i went looking for a sequel guess what no luck. I would definitely read again on a hot or cold day. especially loved some of the quotes in the book

I'VE READ SIMILAR STORY LINES TO THIS ONE, BUT THIS BOOK IS THE BEST BY FAR. THE CHARACTERS ARE HILARIOUS AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!

I was expecting just another chick-lit book, but I ended up loving it. It's much more well-written than most chick-lit. After finishing it, I immediately came on Amazon to look for another book by the same author. I hope she writes more! Really, don't miss this fabulous book. It has great advice for all ages.

So I managed to snag this book at a bargain price, not expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised by this slice of life book about a single woman on the verge of turning 30 faced with the gripping fears/annoying cliches about single women in their 30's, which is of course only exacerbated by the fact her younger sister is getting married. Charlie, the main character, is a personal assistant to a huge Hollywood star in LA, lives in a great place, has wonderfully sweet friends, but also bears the burden of bad luck in love - several instances of which are observed throughout the book.
The question is - what is the 'hook' of the book? It's not so much about Charlie's career or her love life or her friends as it is about the realities of being a single woman, age 30, in the 21st century - and how things may not have progressed as much as we'd like to hope. The 'hook' so to speak is Charlie writing a book to her future great great grand niece (the spawn of her sister's marriage, presuming Charlie doesn't have kids of her own) of advice, some pertaining to life and family, other bits pertaining to the aforementioned love life. There are a few things that I didn't like about this book - the fact most of the characters names were oddly androgynous (Andy & Charlie are girls while Jamie is a boy) and the fact that a lot of them had four letter names beginning with 'D' made for a confusing read at times. Also one could point the finger to the East Coast and Sex & The City as the inspiration for a lot of the characters and thoughts about singledom. But at the end of the day, I'm giving this book 5 stars for being a refreshing, funny departure from your typical chick lit romance (where the 'guy' at the end is always a give-in) and for having a good library of advice at your fingertips to boot. All I have to say is WOW! I absolutely loved this book! Chick-lit in general can sometimes be hit or miss, but this book is definitely a hit. It is funny, witty, charming, and a quick read. At one point, my friends and I sat around flipping through the book while laughing hysterically at the heroine's advice for her great-grand niece. I actually need to buy myself a new copy of the book because I loaned mine to a friend, who passed along to another friend...I'll probably never see it again! Do yourself a favor and read this IMMEDIATELY!!

I bought the book because it had some good reviews, however, the book is so predictable and boring. I couldn't get past the first chapter without yawning. It's a failed attempt at copying " the devil wears prada" so don't waste your $ and move on to a better book.

Unlike usually it took me a long time to get through this book. The cover, the title, even the premise has so much potential and even the story line throughout isn't bad at all. It's just... Charlie and her friends were never very well developed. I never really felt for Charlie, for her plight. To me, the best developed character was Drew and he was only secondary. The entire book was just kind of blah. I followed it, but I never really got passionate about it.
Unlike Emily Giffin's books this one just didn't pull me in. The story was good but the characterization never pulled me in, it seemed like nothing big ever happened. And there were some really cliche tacky lines/dialogue here and there. Not bad just nothing special, nothing I'd re read unless I wanted to reevaluate my opinion. Read it, sure, but don't be surprised if it's just a little whatever. I prefer Emily Giffin's books. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-15 08:58:52 EST)

This would have to be the worst book I have ever read. I bought it based on the brilliant reviews it had received on Amazon, however it was a very disappointing read. The characters were poorly developed and quite one dimensional. The main character and her outlook on the world was pathetic. It was so bad that I couldn't bear reading the last few chapters and instead threw the book in the bin.
I am an avid reader of chicklit and especially love authors like Sophie Kinsella and Maggie Alderson. These books are cleaverly writen and keep you turning the pages. Unfortunately this book couldn't even keep my interest to the end. A total waste of time, let a lone make up! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-15 08:58:52 EST)

I was laughing my butt off by page three of this book. I love it. Now all my friends are passing it around and fighting over who gets it next. Some of the characters are farfetched but it works in this book. I love reading a humorous book. This is definitely a book worth buying.

Don't loan this book out to friends. Make them buy their own copy. I picked it up when I was out on disability hoping for a days entertainment. Instead I found an instant classic with a frightingly real look at dating. What I loved most about this novel was that Drew, the sexist man alive, had the same issues finding love that the rest of the characters had.
