Specifically, this course covers the objectives outlined by CompTIA for its Linux+ exam and certification, an international industry credentials that offers proof of knowledge. Not only does this course prepare students for the ComTIA Linux+ exam; it offers an excellent way to begin preparing for the Novell Certification Linux Professional (Novell CLP) practicum exam. In fact, after completing this course, students will have acquired one-third the knowledge needed to become a full Novell CLP, the ideal certification for people interested in becoming Linux administrators.

Book is a nonsense. Falls apart after the first time you read it, big time overpriced.

This book is clearly meant to satisfy some course requirements that Novell has for its SuSe training, but as a book geared toward the Linux+ certification, it seems lacking.
Its organization sometimes presumes you've learned things it only mentions in later chapters. There's little distinction made between information that's required for Linux+ and that which isn't. The exercises are useful, however. As a book geared toward a newcomer, however, it's rather daunting. If you need this book for a class, you've got no choice but to buy it. If you don't, and want to learn Linux on your own, you'd probably be better looking elsewhere. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-21 05:37:47 EST)

Good manual with quite a few typos. WEB site did not have corrections. You must use the distro that comes with the book or you will not get the desired results from the exercises. Even still the typos will leave you scratching your head in some cases. This is a Junior College class manual and I am pleased with it and the past Thompsom training guides that I have been exposed to. Price is a little steep.

This book is good for someone with existing experience in UNIX. I would not buy this book if I was entirely new to UNIX since the author make assumptions that you already know about certain concepts.
