Great book. Far better than many overrated O'rielly books.

(Hide Review...)  Lots of errors poorly organized

Found that a good number of the examples contain errors. Might be good for a beginner who wants to know what javascript is and what it can do. But this book should not be purchased as a reference book. Little if no discussion on browser differences or browser detection which I think every javascript book should cover.

(Hide Review...)  This book is great about confusing beginners.

This book is great about confusing beginners. I haven't read the whole book yet ,but so far it's been pretty confusing to understand the examples that they show because they don't explain the code clearly. If this book is pretty confusing to me even that i have basic programming knowledge, I can't imagine a total non-programmer learning javaScript from this book.

(Hide Review...)  Does a good job for OO programmers..
Reviewer Permalink
I am 5+ years of c++ Exp. And i have'nt tried out their example scripts. So the star rating is based on that assumption. I think it would not be a good book for programmers without OO background. For those who have OO background, i find this is a quite nice book for step-by-step learning. Not all example scripts are included on disk. Overall this book is well organised and good start for C++ programmers, which many book fail to achieve.

(Hide Review...)  This book is useless
Reviewer Permalink
Useless content and chock full of errors. The only thing that made this book a useful learning tool was tracking down all of the errors and typos. The book is poorly planned and doesn't really teach you anything.

Out of all the documentation for beginners on Javascript this is the best book I've read. It had great usefull examples and explained stuff in a straightforward easy to understand manner.

(Hide Review...)  what this book realy teaches.

i think that this book is a great book and it helps you realy learn about JavaScript. The problem with this book is it doesn't realy give a real lot of examples and explain how they work. i learned JavaScript mostly from online tutoriols from web pages. END

This book was my first real "javascript learning experience" I had asked for assistance from other webmasters that had used it on their sites, so I could try some things on my homepage but until I read this book and used the hands on directions the concepts totally elluded me. I have learned far more now but this book gave me my first clear understanding of javascript.

No flow. No building blocks. I have taken programming classes before and never seen it taught like this. It was more like being told about javascript. Each chapter gives you a new subject matter with one example that is totally unrelated to any examples previously covered. I will have to go and by something else to learn with. It does have a nice reference section if you already know the language.
