| Head First Design Patterns Poster | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

You know you don't want to reinvent the wheel (or worse, a flat tire), so you look to Design Patterns--the lessons learned by those who've faced the same problems. With Design Patterns, you get to take advantage of the best practices and experience of others, so that you can spend your time on...something else. Something more challenging. Something more complex. Something more fun.
Head First Design Patterns Poster is a companion to Head First Design Patterns. It summarizes visually, 16 of the most common design patterns including Adapter, Command, Composite Decorator, Observer, Proxy, State, Singleton, Strategy, and more. Each pattern includes a handy page reference to both Head First Design Patterns and the "Gang of Four" text, the canonical description of the pattern, and a visual guide designed (and inspired by the examples in Head First Design Patterns) to jog your memory of the objects, classes, and their relationships. In addition, the poster includes the "best of" the Head First "Guide to Better Living with Patterns," including how to read a patterns catalog, the power of a shared vocabulary and annihilating evil with anti-patterns. Visually appealing and truly useful, Head First Design Patterns Poster contains what you need to know at a glance. Head First Design Patterns and this companion poster are a great combination that will load patterns into your brain in a way that sticks. |

To reiterate the subject for those who care about such things, this useful poster is shipped folded instead of rolled.

I bought this poster in the idea that the book was really interesting.
The problem is that is badly designed. I'm not sure what others expect from it but for me I bought it to remind me all the constructions from the book. A very fast guide in case you want to design. I saw it as a post help for those that read the book. You can't put all the details on the poster but what you can do is put the guide lines. Most of the UML drawings for different patterns are missing. There is just a simple definition in the box. The text is very small and unless you are really in front of the poster is quite hard to read it. If I were to design this poster I would put with in big letters the principles stated in the book and the UML drawings for each pattern and maybe a few sketched examples. Something that would be focused on helping the programmer remember the principles. When looking at the poster you should not waste time to try to read from it. That is not the point. In my view if you want to check more details you grab the book and read it. this is my view... I hope it helps. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-15 08:18:36 EST)

This is a nifty reminder of important design patterns.
If you aren't using design patterns, you should be. If you haven't read Head First Design Patterns, you gotta get it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-05 12:35:39 EST)
