They Dare to Speak Out : People and Institutions Confront Israel's Lobby

The first book to speak out against the pervasive influence of the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on American politics, policy, and institutions resonates today as never before. With careful documentation and specific case histories, former congressman Paul Findley demonstrates how the Israel lobby helps to shape important aspects of U.S. foreign policy and influences congressional, senatorial, and even presidential elections. Described are the undue influence AIPAC exerts in the Senate and the House and the pressure AIPAC brings to bear on university professors and journalists who seem too sympathetic to Arab and Islamic states and too critical of Israel and its policies. Along with many longtime outspoken critics, new voices speaking out include former President Jimmy Carter, U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney, Senator Robert Byrd, prominent Arab-American Dr. Ziad Asali, Rabbi Michael Lerner, and journalist Charles Reese. In addition, the lack of open debate among politicians with regard to the U.S. policy in the Middle East is lamented, and AIPAC is blamed in part for this censorship. Connections are drawn between America’s unconditional support of Israel and the raging anti-American passions around the world—and ultimately the tragic events of 9/11. This replaces 1556520735.

This book comes from a qualified credible source and is very educational. It not only speaks of AIPAC, but also of various pressures, and intimidation tactics in politics, media, academia, used by pro-Israel groups and right wing fundamentals in support of such. Findley also writes about the left democratic Christians who oppose the pro-Israel lobby, and of those founding Zionists (Nahum Goldmann) and Anti-Zionists that spoke out against Israel's treatment of Palestinians and Arabs rights. I found this book to be a significant piece of the U.S./world puzzle. And this is coming from a Jew critical of Israel policies and supporter of justice and human rights of all peoples. Highly recommended.

During the reign of terror which Stalin presided over, criticism of ol' Joe was punishable by summary execution. Criticism of Israel is not, pre se, punishable by death though in some ways it'd have been better if it were. At least that kind of suppression leaves no doubts about who the enemy is. In this book the author exhibits both scholarly habits as well as great personal courage. Exposing zionism and educating a largely ignorant american public of it's influence over American military-financial power often visits upon the individual doing so both phsyical and intellectual attacks on a par with what MOSSAD and SAVAK would have taken pride in.

Findley, a pure PRO-AMERICAN is one of the rare congressman with a backbone who,... puts America first. He was and is the pioneer of bringing attention to Americas getting off course with a spineless and cowardly Legislature - especially today. I feel Findley's courageous and 'making America' aware of the cancer within it book should be read and taken VERY seriously. Outstanding and other A+ scholarly works on this topic are: Jimmy Carter's: Palestine:Peace Not Apartheid; ans most recent is "The Israel Lobby," by Mearshiemer and Walt. These are also excellent objective reads that bring true clarity to what's really going on today.

Do not read this book. I have never in my life read so many lies in one book. He is just trying to divert our nation's attention from the lobbies that are doing the most harm: The pro-choice movement, the teachers unions, the environmental lobby, and, most theatening of all - the Norwegians.
These are the nefarious organizations with unlimited financial power and unrivaled political and media influence who use violence and intimidation to force their will upon our nation. Shame on Amazon for giving voice to this author who is obviously bent on the annihilation of God's Chosen Race.

This book is a perfect counter-point to The Power of Israel in the United States. I review that book also, and recommend both books to every American, just as I also recommend the books that document how the Saudis have bought the Bush Family and the Republican and Democratic parties, neither of which represents We the People. Completely apart from the venal immorality of Dick Cheney (see my review of Vice: Dick Cheney and the Hijacking of the American Presidency in which I itemized the 23 high crimes and misdemeanors documented by that book), the fact is that Congress has been bought by multiple parties, and no longer represents We the People.

This book is a harder, longer read, so I recommend you start with the other book. As with the other book, this book is a strongly documented and very lengthy catalog of the sins of the Zionists and the Israeli Government, not at all against the moderate Jews and their legitimate concerns. I have seen Gaza and Beirut, and what Israel has done to the Palestinians, to the former "Paris" of the Middle East, combined with their Assault on the Liberty, is unforgivable.

This book logically catalogs how the Zionists intimidate even such a person as Ted Turner, who was forced to back down when he said both sides were committing terrorism (there is in fact a UN Resolution that finds Israel guilty of genocide and racism, but then that is one of those "fog facts" that our totalitarian monsters choose to ignore.

The author organizes the book around how Zionists silence the small and the weak, while buying out the Oval Office, the Congress, the media, while also subverting academic freedon.

I especially like the author's conclusion, "What Price Israel?" The US taxpayer is subsidizing Israeli genocide and Israeli idiocy, and the US and Israel appear to be the last two countries to continue to believe in the value of force that is both unaffordable and unsustainable in an unconquerable world.

Congressman Tom Moran, who represents my district, has personally said that Zionish have too much influence on Congress, and I agree. Tom Moran has been a very good representative, and he speaks the truth.

Here are some books and a DVD that can put the totally unacceptable Zionist influence on the USA in a larger context:

Hostile Takeover: How Big Money and Corruption Conquered Our Government--And How We Take It Back
The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom
The Global Class War: How America's Bipartisan Elite Lost Our Future - and What It Will Take to Win It Back
The Best Democracy Money Can Buy
Fog Facts : Searching for Truth in the Land of Spin (Nation Books)
Running on Empty: How the Democratic and Republican Parties Are Bankrupting Our Future and What Americans Can Do About It
The Broken Branch: How Congress Is Failing America and How to Get It Back on Track (Institutions of American Democracy)

(Hide Review...)  Findley is Pathologically Obsessed With Israel and its American Supporters
Reviewer Permalink
If readers want to read a book that evinces a pathological obsession with Israel and its American supporters and blames them for every problem under the sun, then by all means buy this book. But if you don't, avoid this book like the plague. Paul Findley is a former Congressman who now serves as a pro-Arab propagandist and Palestinian apologist. When I read reviews that refer to him as objective, I have to laugh. Findley is as one-sided and biased in his views as they come.

The absurdity of Findley's thesis is easy to prove. People and institutions are constantly "speaking out" to attack Israel and the pro-Israel lobby in the most vicious terms. What punishment do they face for doing this from the Israel lobby? None whatsoever. No one is suppressing their free speech. Jimmy Carter and Professors Walt and Mearsheimer, among others, are free to present their biased and distorted views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the influence of the Israeli lobby without retaliation. Some criticism, yes, but no suppression of free speech.

One might ask why Findley was defeated in his Congressional reelection bid some years ago by a candidate supported by AIPAC? I would submit that it was Findley's greater concern for Yasir Arafat's interests than those of his own constituents that was responsible for his defeat, not any conspiracy on the part of Israel's supporters.

I note that many of the reviewers have repeated the standard and tired line that one can't criticize Israel without being labeled anti-Semitic. One can criticize Israel and the Israeli lobby without being anti-Semitic. Unfortunately, many of the reviews posted here show that some of the people who criticize Israel and the Israeli lobby resort to anti-Semitic stereotypes and cross the line into open anti-Semitism and bigotry, a la the Protocols of the Elders of Zion forgery. If you believe that there's a sinister Jewish conspiracy to control the U.S. government and media for nefarious purposes, you hold anti-Semitic views. For those of you who don't hold those views, stay away from this awful book.

(Hide Review...)  Anti-Semites need to read Mein Kamph first.
Reviewer Permalink
There are no shortage of books in which anti-Semites may find comfort for their base emotions. But before tackling this book by Paul Findley or the other books by such Jew-haters as Jimmy Carter or David Duke, I would suggest that readers who truly wish to saturate themselves in virulent anti-Semitism start with Adolph Schicklgruber's Mein Kamph. Here, you can indulge in the unbridled perversity of anti-Semitism without having to concern yourself with using Israel as a mask for your base emotions. In Mein Kamph you will learn how young Adolph discovered that "pudgy" Jewish men were still winning the affections of young German women, even though the Jews were "pudgy," because of their skills in using fashionable clothing to appeal to the female sex drive. Let Adolph guide you through these and other revelations. Once you've completed your course in anti-Semitism 101, you can graduate to other forms of fear and hatred of Jews, such as the Findley or Carter books, which are framed in a psuedo-historical context. But whatever you do, I would suggest that you stay away from serious study of history and psychology. Such study, assuming you are capable of it, will only interfere with your primal, obsessive need to indulge in vitriol toward Jews.

I bought and read the first edition ten years ago, and it really blew my mind. My eyes were opened and the scales removed. I had an epiphany regarding Israel and Zionism. Over the last ten years, I've watched and listened to what's been happening in world politics by supplementing the borscht spewed from the mouths of our evening news talking-empty-heads with real-world foriegn news reports and internet-based news sources. I've paid particular attention to American government and Middle-East events. My conclusion is that as a direct result of having a Zionist occupied and controlled government, our country has become morally corrupt, financially bankrupt, and loathed by the rest of the world. As an honorably discharged former U.S. Marine sergeant, my question is this:
With friends like Zionist Israel, who needs enemies?

I read this book many years ago when I was a student of Middle East Politics at UC Berkeley. I recently took it down to compare it with other recent works on the subject. I now appreciate that former Congressman Findley's book was truly a trail blazer in exposing the systematic attempt by Israeli supporters to stifle all dissent. What Findley documents are individual examples of blatant intimidation to publicly humiliate and demean anyone in this country that has the audacity to question the United States' blind policy in supporting Israel. This book should be read by every American who is concerned about the "closing of the American mind" on debate about Israel and US policies in the MIddle East. Given the perilous times that we now live in, it is vital that this country engage in a vigorous national debate. In addition to Findley's book, I would also recommend everyone read James Petras' "The Power of Israel in the United States" and President Jimmy Carter's recent book.

Paul Findley has written an excellent book about how the Israeli lobby operates in our government. I have a question for all those greedy, fearful, spineless, gutless wonders of lawmakers who are selling their souls for filthy lucre and putting the interest of America last. How many times must pigs eat out of the trough before they are full? Please buy this book and read it with an open mind. Israel has a right to exist and be safe and also the Palestinians has a right to exist and be safe.

Imagine you're a congressman or a senator. Israeli spies are everywhere. They hear everything you say to your fellow senators in the halls of the Capitol Hill. You refrain conveying an important memo over the phone since the lines are tapped by Israel. If you say anything slightly against Israel, the AIPAC the Israeli lobby threatens your political career by smearing you with being anti-semitic and pouring money to your rival in the upcoming election. You saw all these happened to other congressmen previously. So you approve butchering the budget which was intended to strengthen cockpit doors in commercial airliners just to release more aid money to Israel. You cut down aid money for poor 3rd world countries so that Israel should get more.
Imagine you're a top burocreaut working at Pentagon. The fighter jets will be equipped with a just-released a high-tech air-to-air missiles. It's a top secret. Somehow Israel knows about them, and they want to have them. You say "No, there's a law that prohibits the release a tech secret. Besides we have only one squadron equipped with those missiles". Somehow they force you and they get the only squadron you have.
Israel requests a particular tank, you look for everywhere but you can't find it. When you tell them the USA doesn't have that kind of tank, they tell you that you do have those tanks and tell you exactly where they are stored. They know what, where, everything.
Imagine your father is one of those 280 something marines who were killed in Beirut in 1980's in a single attack by a shiite muslim group. When you read the book you learn that MOSSAD (the CIA of Israel) knew that the attack was going to happen but deliberately doesn't warn USA. What else comes to your mind?
All these are in the book. One top government officer says If Americans knew what Israel is doing to USA, they would take up arms against Israel. The book was written by Paul Findley a former USA congressman with tons of corraborating evidence. Don't think even a second. Buy it at every cost. You will thank me.
