When I got this book I didn't think that it would be full of many things. I thought I would use it only to brush up on my skills. Believe it or not this book is whamp packed with little hints and tricks that you might find useful.
If you have done some SEO techniques before then most of the major topics in this book will be of no use to you. Saying that though, there are some little gems of tips and tricks inside that makes this book worth while. If you are starting out with SEO I would recommend this book to anyone, If have dived into the realm of SEO then this book will show you some hints and tips you might not have seen before (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-23 03:56:17 EST)

I'm a relative newbie to the notion of SEO. This book was just the right tool to help me quickly understand what I needed to know.
The amount of detail is perfect, and the third party references very useful. I've already recommended it to friends, all of which I'm sure will equally benefit. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-11 08:03:23 EST)

I have finished the book already and refer it to it as needed. The way it is written is excellent. At the beginning of each chapter is a high-level summary of each topic. Then each topic has it's own 2-3 pages with screen captures of what & how to do the task.
Highly recommended book! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-22 07:58:09 EST)

If you are completely oblivious to SEO best practices then you need this book.
However, if you already know what you're doing it will not give any particular insight at all into the processes that superstar SEO or SEM operators go through. It's like an "SEO for Dummies" or something similar. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-22 07:58:09 EST)

I found this book excellent although it may be a bit much for the beginner website developer or internet marketer. Many of the reccomended actions are rather complicated. For the beginner that wants to get going and get his or her website up and running and indexed quickly I would rather look at many of the e-books available [www.searchenginesecrets.co.za]. I find the e-books get right to the point which will get you onto the internet quickly and help you to get the first few sites "under your belt" in no time. Afer that a detalied book like this could make a lot of sense.

This is a very useful book with a lot of good, practical ideas. It is well written and understandable. It is easy to use; it is divided into one or two-page sections ("Optimize Title Tags," "Article Directory Submissions," etc.) so you can carry out one suggestion at a time, as you have the time. It would be useful to people who do not know HTML, but it is most useful to those who do know it.

I browsed through this book at the local book store and was immediately impressed by the quality of information presented. The reason for my 4 star rating is that after I bought the book and started getting into the details, I found that some of the websites mentioned were not functional anymore. I found 2-3 links like that. But other than that I think that this is one book in SEO that every webmaster should own.

As the owner of a web design firm that offers a growing bundle of SEO services, I have spent thousands of dollars staying up-to-date with the latest strategies for search engine optimization.
But despite the big-name conferences I've attended, this $30 book is the best investment I've made in SEO. The author does a phenomenal job of covering every phase of the process. In fact, I hit Amazon this evening, because I'm buying 4 more copies that will be distributed to every part of my team... 1 for our lead web programmer, 1 for the people doing keyword research, 1 for our copywriter and 1 for the people who focus on link building strategies. There's stuff in here from which everybody can benefit. I also appreciate how it's organized. If you like text - there's a section in each chapter with text. If you prefer pictures, the second part of each chapter is chock full of diagrams and images that would allow somebody to learn a lot with minimal reading. I highly recommend this book. I have never met Kris Jones, but know many people in the Internet marketing industry who have a lot of respect for him. I actually own an Internet marketing company, [...], and one of the services we offer is Internet marketing training.
We have created our own materials that we use in our training programs, but we are now making plans to use this book instead. The book is filled with the same information that we teach every day to our customers, but the way that it is laid out is extremely easy to understand and implement. The last thing I must say is that Kris isn't a "feel good" kind of guy. He says it how it is. Internet marketing is an extremely time consuming thing and he tells you that. There are no "black hat" techniques taught that will get you banned from the SERPS. This book could (and really should) be used in college level marketing degree curriculum's. Many SEO books focus on keyword optimization, but this little number is a veritable compendium of techniques. If you applied half of what you'll find in here, your site would be more optimized than you can even imagine. This covers everything from content to links to blogs to micro-blogs to forums to reviews to directories and communities and ad copy and keyword bidding... whew. No other books comes even close to the variety of options that Kristopher's book has. You'll learn more about variations of SEO techniques from this book than any other source. So start here, and if you need to go further in depth on any of the topics, you can branch off into some of the other fine books out there on specific topics like landing page and keyword optimization.

The very most up to date and, in my opinion, the most intelligent book about modern SEO that I have read in the last two years. I think that SEO is in a new phase or in a new era. In this new era is absolutely necessary know a lot of thing about keyword generation, web 2.0, site structuring, social web, social media optimization, SEO plug-ins, etc. and this book is plenty of information about this new SEO era. However maybe is it not an absolutely beginners book. In my opinion, probably requires a few prior knowledge of the field. The compensation: probably the best 2007/2008 SE0 book.

I read Search Engine Optimization: Your Visual Blueprint for Effective Internet Marketing by Kris Jones from cover-to-cover. Go ahead and buy it! It's really a top-notch book!
Don't let the title fool you. The book covers much more than search engine optimization. It's really a domain spanning book, and one of the first published works that I have seen to integrate search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), and affiliate marketing programs (AFP). From nearly any perspective, these three areas of expertise all have one overlapping goal --- providing the right content where it will be seen by the right person at the right time. Leveraging support and expertise from Pepperjam, Jones does an excellent job of integrating these three areas into a near seamless package. In this respect, the book is really ground breaking, and a harbinger of things to come in how these areas will be viewed. The 296 page book has eleven chapters, an introductory history of SEO, and a nine page index. Each of the eleven chapters has a standard organization that is clear and readable. Each chapter begins with a two page overview, with each of topics that the chapter covers in easy-to-read callout boxes, along with a larger callout box providing information on some unique concept or tool related to the chapter. The remainder of the chapter is divided into sections corresponding to the callout boxes in the two-page chapter introduction. It is a really neat layout that is effective and efficiency for both a complete read and returning to for a reference. The eleven chapters are: Getting started with SEO, keyword generation, creating pages, basic Website structure, advanced Website structure, creating content, creating communities, building links, using Google analytics, social media optimization, creating pay-for-click campaigns, optimizing PPC campaigns, optimizing for niche search engines, monetizing traffic, and installing SEP plug-ins. As a person active in the areas of SEO and SEM, I was interested in the book's topics but, honestly, really thought that I wouldn't learn much that was new to me. I was totally wrong! The chapters are packed with worthwhile information in a `how-to' format. I learned loads of worthwhile and actionable information. In any book that I review, I try to find something that one could improve upon. One suggestion that I would have is a reference list at the end of each chapter pointing to further reading on chapter topics. This would broaden the audience from primarily practitioners to include also educators, trainers, and researchers. However, this is nick picking. The book is great! The book was written by Kristopher B. Jones, CEO of PepperJam. Kris is well known in the industry and considered an authority not only in the search marketing community, but among Internet marketers is general, including affiliate marketers and people in display advertising. I think the title of the book was not well chosen, because it is not only about organic search engine optimization, but about marketing your business and website in general.
The book covers paid search advertising, affiliate marketing, public relations, web analytics and more, basically everything that is important for a successful online presents. That Kris has experience across the multiple channels of Internet marketing, from his business as fully integrated Internet marketing agency shines through in his book. Unique about the book is also how it is designed. It is geared towards the visual folks like myself and uses a tremendous amount of pictures to show things instead of just using words to explain. Virtually every page has a screenshot or illustration and is an integrated part of the book, beyond the simple use as decoration or reinforcement of the written text. I just read Search Engine Optimization: Your visual blueprint for effective Internet marketing (Visual Blueprint) by Kris Jones, President & CEO of Pepperjam, and I really loved the format of the book.
It is not a typical business book that you would read from front to back. Instead, it covers a huge assortment of topics in an easy to understand, condensed format. Topics covered include analyzing your competition, researching and analyzing keywords, developing your link building skills, using Google Analytics, boosting traffic with Digg and StumbleUpon, and installing valuable SEO plug-ins. The Search Engine Optimization book includes lots of screen shots to provide step by step details for the various processes described. I see it as more of a reference manual on SEO related topics than a write-up on the industry. In that respect, it is more valuable to me than a standard business book, and it gets a more accessible spot on my bookshelf. If you're not familiar with Kris Jones, he is well-known throughout the search engine and affiliate marketing communities for his work in both spaces. He's sharing resources and tips from his experience, rather than the result of research, and it shows. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 03:36:06 EST)

I assisted Kris with the technical editing of this book, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to participate. We specifically worked on providing a unique perspective of search-engine optimization, one that is both easy to understand and apply.
Search-engine optimization is often mistaken for being a daunting and theory-heavy task. This book breaks down both basic and advanced SEO theories from keyword research to link building into smaller and easier-to-manage tasks. I hope everyone enjoys reading it, applying it, and watching their search-engine rankings rise! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-11 03:30:45 EST)
