You will want to purchase and use this. See my review and how I passed on my first try under Rita Mulcaby's book, PMP Exam Prep. You will wnat to purchase and use that book, and the PMBOK Guide.

This is a fine product, but you do not get unlimited use. After one year, you have to purchase it again. So if you start studying, finish sooner than later regardless of what life throws at you. This is a license to use the software, you do not get the actual software itself.

The software is truly high quality, but the company making it does not seem to believe in ethical representation of their materials to the public. Perhaps they should read Rita's book, it is very detailed regarding ethics.

This simulation software gives you the real pressures of reading the question on screen, with timer ticking down. For those people who haven't taken a 4 hour CBT of this magnitude, this product will get you used to not only the Computer Based Testing environment but it also helps you determine what areas you need more help with when completed. I suggest reading Rita's Prep Exam book and the PMBOK before working the questions in the software.

(Hide Review...)  Helpful to prepare: gets your mind around the format of questions on the exam
Reviewer Permalink
I recently sat for, and passed, the exam this past weekend and found the software to be helpful in preparing for the test. I first purchased "PMP Exam Prep" prior to purchasing the software, and used the book for over two months before buying the software. I'm glad I did. Using Rita's book helps get you into the mindset for the types of questions that will be posed on the exam. You can then use the software to practice exam-type questions in a timed test environment.
The "Super PMP" feature, which provides 200 of the most difficult questions on the software, was helpful but was probably a little over the top in terms of difficulty and length of questions compared to the actual exam. Nonetheless, the Super PMP does what it is supposed to do: prepare you for taking a 200 question, 4-hour exam. The downside is that there was only one Super PMP on the software versus several sample, regular exams.
Overall, the software is a useful addition to your preparation materials and I recommend taking advantage of the over 1400 questions.

I passed the test late 2006. This software was great. It prepared me because it is almost a duplicate of the actual test. I was extremely confortable taking the actual test since I prepared with this software. I recommend it greatly....But it is not the test questions that help you pass, its only the familiarity of actual test. The software will not make you smarter, it provides you clarity into your progression as in if you have a shot to pass the test. You will need to study the material first.

This product has been a cornerstone of my peperation for the exam. Rita gets you thinking differently about the material and questions. I have used this along with many of Rita's products. They were all part of the SWO PMI Chapter review course I took. Please consider this and all of the material Rita has to offer in preperation for the exam.

I am glad to see the progress of fast delivery I received from Amazon within 10days time (delivered on sunday too) under normal International delivery option.

However the online tracking status showed delivery 1 month+...
I suggest Amazon need to improve the delivery tracking system up to date, so as to keep the customer informed when they get the delivery.

I used this useful CD along with "PMP Exam Prep, Fifth Edition: Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam" and helped me a lot. This Database contains more than 1400 questions subject to continuous updates. Believe it or not, many of the questions I encountered in the exam were very close in content to the ones in Rita's Database. I strongly recommend this product to whoever is planning to take the exam. However, this product demonstrates the exam environment and does not provide study materials. Therefore should be bought along with any of the study guides. Good Luck

After taking a week long PMP boot camp course, I found the PMP FastTrack exam simulation software to be a good study tool. Additionally, I also studied test questions from the Project Managment Professional Certification Prep book by ElementK as well as the PMP Exam Prep Questions & Solutions book by Aileen Ellis. After taking (and passing) the PMP exam, I found that the PMP FastTrack software helped me ramp up on my timing (ensuring I'd complete the 200 question exam within 4 hours or less). I would recommend using this software; however, I would not recommend it being the only tool used to study for the exam. A prep course is almost a necessity as there are many areas of knowledge one must be proficient in to pass.

This product was invaluable for passing the PMP exam the first time. I ended up trying about 850 questions at which point I felt I was not learning anything new. People should not expect to see the same or even similar questions on the actual exam. Instead, they should understand the structure of questions and the thinking metholodogy that goes into correctly choosing an answer from two or more very close possible choices. When you miss a question, be sure to read the explanation carefully and refer back to Rita's book and/or the PMBOK for further information. That is where the real value of the product lies - understanding where you went wrong and how to answer that type of question in the future.

Several things I didn't like about the product:

1) Each time one takes a PMP test, the software randomly chooses questions from the total bank of questions. This causes many questions to re-occur from previous exams (no duplicates will occur within a single exam). It should have been designed to draw questions from the bank of previously unused questions.

2) The user interface is different than the actual exam. They should have made it identical.

3) For the price, I would have like to have seen a pdf of Rita's exam study guide included and hyperlinks between each explanation and the appropriate section of the book.

4) A really annoying feature is the inability to take a full 200 question PMP in segments - in other words, stop working, save your work, and then pickup the sample exam later. Rarely did I study for four hours straight (the time needed to take a full pmp exam).

In summary, I think fast track is a great product and was instrumental to passing the PMP exam on the 1st attempt. The questions were as difficult or more difficult than the actual exam. The style of thinking and structure of questions were the same. Don't be naive and expect to see the same questions on the exam - its not going to happen. Make sure that you are scoring at least 85% before considering yourself ready.

I purchased PMFASTrack a couple of months before I was scheduled to take my PMP exam. The exam simulation questions proved to be an excellent tool for preparing for the exam. Being able to answer PMP related questions by process group and knowledge area allowed me to test my knowledge and determine where I needed to brush up. In addition, the PMP and SuperPMP simulation exams with actual countdown timers were great ways to prep for the psychological and physical demands of the actual exam.

With over 1400+ questions, I rarely encountered repeat questions. I would recommend the PM FASTrack simulator to anyone that is preparing for the exam. Although not a requirement, I think it provided me with the added edge and confidence needed for the exam. Thanks in part to the Exam Simulator, I successfully passed the PMP exam on my first attempt!

(Hide Review...)  Great tool for identifying gaps, but don't get addicted!
Reviewer Permalink
The FASTrack software is an excellent complement to Rita's PMP Exam Prep and can significantly reduce the amount of time required to prepare for the actual exam. For me there were three benefits.

First, taking 100-question exams allowed me to identify where my knowledge gaps were. After analyzing my results and seeing where I was having problems, I could focus in on a particular process group or knowledge area (Closing and Procurement were my sticking points). This saved a lot of time I would have otherwise spent re-reading the sections that I already knew.

The second benefit was that I became familiar with the types of questions that would be asked on the test. Often times there are multiple correct answers, but only one is what the PMI considers 'best'. Becoming 'Zen' with the PMI and answering the questions from their perspective is critical to passing the exam, and the sample questions are very similar to those I saw on the actual exam.

The third benefit is that I was able to recreate the testing environment. I could lock myself in a room for 3 hours, and force myself to take the 200 question test mimicking the exam conditions as much as possible. Because of this I felt very comfortable walking into the test center and was able to attack the exam and not let it overwhelm me.

CAUTION: It is very tempting to to take test after test after test. It becomes very satisfying as you get more comfortable with the way the questions are asked, but I found I learned very little by taking the tests. To be sure, when I got a question wrong and looked at the correct answer I might glean something from it, but the majority of my learning came from reading Rita's exam prep and the PMBoK.

What worked best for me was to read the exam prep first, then re-read the chapters where I didn't do much of the content in real life (like Procurement) in much greater detail. Only once I really felt comfortable with the material did I take a 100-question exam and identify my gaps. From there I focused my efforts on those areas, re-reading sections or entire chapters when necessary, then take another 100-question test.

I agree with several of the reviewers that the 1300-question knowledge bank means you'll get the same questions thrown at you, so it's in your best interest not to use them up too fast. Somewhere in there make one of your tests the full 200-question exam so you can get a feel for what the real exam is like.

One final word of warning - the actual PMP exam will no longer tell you the percent you got correct. The overall test gives a Pass/Fail rating, and you get a Proficient/Somewhat Proficient/Not Proficient for the five process groups plus Ethics. That was somewhat disappointing, but more than made up for by the 'Pass' at the top of the page. :)

I thought this software was spendy but upon taking the PMP exam, I found it worth the money. I used both the Rita CD and the book. The simulations were identical to the actual exam. Though all of the questions are different, the simulation helped me build up my stamina to sit there an focus for hours. The exam was horrid! If not for the book and the CD, there is no way I would have passed. They really are worth the money.

Rita has done an excellent job with her products. This simulation software allows you to focus on process groups and knowledge groups with an answers just a click away.

The PMP test and Super PMP test simulates the environment that you encounter when taking the test. If you can consistently score higher than 85%, you'll have the confidence needed to pass the exam.

Let me be honest with you... I'm a smart cookie but there are so many study materials out there to prepare for this examination, that I found my head swirling with confusion. I took the PMP prep class and while I found it helpful, it certainly is not enough to help you pass the exam (and I have an MBA so if I'm saying that, you can take my word for it).

There are companies out there selling their own "study materials" to prepare for Rita's exam but the problem with their materials is that their thinking is not the same as Rita's.... Therefore, you have to make up your mind; are you going to study their thinking or Ritas (the creator of the exam). After purchasing everyone elses study materials and confusing myself beyond comprehension, I decided to chuck their books and use only Ritas books and this software... WHAT A GOOD DECISION I MADE.

The software contains 1300 questions written by Rita and her team.. The format of the questions and even the style of thinking is almost EXACTLY the same as the exam. I was astounded. There were even some questions on this software that were actually on the exam. Need I say more?

I basically spent 2 hours a day for 2 months and drilled these 1300 questions into my head. I supplemented the software with her book and then I took the exam.

Considering 60% of everyone who takes the exam the first time fails, I passed the exam the first time with 85. I was estatic.

The bottom line is that its not what "you think" but what Rita thinks and whether you understand her thinking. I rarely used my own project mgmt background and I dont suggest you rest your laurels and walk in there "cold" and take the exam.

Study this software, read her book, get a good nights sleep, eat a good meal before the exam, and say a good prayer to the Lord.. Thats the best advise I can give you..

Good luck on your exam! ;)

I used only this CD, PMBOk guide and Rita's book to pass the exam. This CD is the only item i used for taking sample tests. SuperPMP in the CD is close to the exam.

My recommendation would be the project management experience, Rita's book, PMBok guide and the CD (Optional) to pass the exam.

Explanations were good when i had answers incorrect in the sample tests.

The simulated tests provide good practice in taking the test, and I see myself getting better over time. However, it would be nice if you could use the simulated tests as aids in determining where you need to focus your studying. This is surprisingly difficult to do with this software!

At the end of a practice test, you can ask for details of your score and it will break down your score by project management process group (initiating, executing, etc) plus an extra category for ethics. This is (according to the software) the same way results are presented after the actual exam. However this is not how the PM BOK is organized nor is it how the companion text "PMP Exam Prep" is organized! It would be helpful if scores were also measured against the knowledge areas since that is how the study materials are organized. What is worse, you won't even find this out until after you take a four-hour test! Four wasted hours, really, if your goal is to find out where your study time would best be spent.

I also ran into some software errors in which a question with an accompanying chart threw an exception when I pressed the View Chart button. I was not able to view the chart so I skipped the question.

All in all I give three stars for the large number of questions but for $300 I'd expect more.

PMPFastTrack is a good tool in a sense that it will benefit you in terms of preparing oneself for the types of questions (....more of the look & feel) & other thing is that just due to the volume of question & answering process, one tend to learn in the process.

PMP exam are lot harder than & objective answers are lot closer to being ambigous than the one PMFastTrack offers. Fortunately, I was just able to pass the test but not with flying colors. I was a little dissappointed with the investment of $188. Price for the questionaire should be far more affordable by at least 35% to 40%.

I bought this software expecting a lot more. I took an exam prep class at Sac State University and was told to purchase additional sample questions. I got this software and had about 200 additional sample questions from my examp prep class at Sac State. I also spent another $[...] buying a book with practice questions.

When I actually took the exam on October 4th, 2007, none of the scenarios in this software were even remotely similar to scenarios on the real test. If it hadn't been for taking the exam prep class and buying the $[...] book, I would not have passed. This software did not help me much if at all...not to mention the fact that you don't even get to "own" the program. It's only good for a year from the install date.

Save your money.

Rita Mulcahy's FASTrack exam simulation is a good tool in helping those interested in taking the PMP certification test. The CD contains several questions that emulate the style of questions to be found on the exam. The CD provides wonderful references to locate the correct answer in the PMBOK (project manager book of knowledge), which can be purchased seperately (or downloaded free from PMI.org).

The major drawback / disappointment I had with my purchase is that there is a time limit of access to the CD. Once the CD software is installed on your PC and authorised, you have only one year of access. It turns out you only lease this software for a one year duration. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned but I figure if I pay close to $200 for software it should be mine to keep. Also, the software can be authorised for a maximum of tow instalations. There is no credit for uninstallation of software from your notebook or desktop. So be sure to install it on a reliable system.

The product is good with the exception of the one year lease. The PMI organisation allows an applicant one year time to take and pass the PMP exam after thier application is approved. So my advice is to make sure you get your application approved before you authorise Rita's CD. This way you can ensure that you get the maximum amount of time using the CD for what you had intended it for. I believe the one year limitation is just bad policy. What makes it worse is that there is no mention of this limitation is any description of the product.

I brought this software because I really got a lot out of Rita Mulcahy's book `PMP Exam Prep, Fifth Edition: Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam' which I think is excellent.

This software contains a range of exam simulations which are also very helpful in preparing for PMP exams.

I gave the product only two stars because the software is time bombed (it expires and cannot be reused beyond one three month extension) and can only be installed twice (designed to support two machines). I had a hard disk crash and needed to reinstall but they (the software developer) would not allow me to do this without eating my second install which I had planned to use for my desktop (as I travel and wanted the software on both). This is, in my opinion, archaic customer service and an unacceptable license limitation for a software product in this price range.

I read PMBOK once and Kim Heldman's PMP exam premp once, and done the PMFastrack about 700 questions. All in done in 1.5 months without attending any classroom/online training and passed PMP with average score of 72% !

PMFastrack is a must have and must try for those attempting PMP. It gives you a feel how PMP exam questions are structured and how tricky those questions (and answers) could be. There are missing information in PMBOK which the PMFastrack reveals it and indeed it appear in the real PMP exam. For example on "Leadership" power like "Referrent power", "Expert power", etc.....PMBOK did not mentioned but it appeared in the exam. Also on "Conflict Management" techniques like "Forcing", "Smoothing", etc...it appeared several times in the real exam but nothing in PMBOK. Good thing PMFastrack reveals such "hidden" topics. To be fair, the Kim Heldman's PMP Exam prep also did reveal such "hidden-but-will-appear-in-exam" topics. I guess the the Mulcahy exam prep will also reveal it.

However, there are some topics are missing in PMFastrack and PMBOK on Procurement Management. There were about 2 questions in PMP exam on calculating contractor's profit of a contract, with the keyword "total point of consumption"....

The other drawbacks of PMFastrack are, it keeps repeating questions you have already taken and sometimes the explanation doesn't make sense to me. It's hard to understand the thinking process when the explanation just say "B is the best answer".....

Another good feature to have is if the software could analyze your test results and present you more questions on those weak areas or low score areas.

In summary, it's a must have for :

1. The degree of resemblance of it's questions database to the actual exam.

2. The size of the question database

3. Ability for the database to be updated whenever there are new updates

4. Calculating test results based on number of questions answered

5. Calculating time taken to answer questions (yes 4 hours is not enough in the real exam)

Areas for improvement :

1. Keep count and score of questions already taken to decide if it should be repeated

2. Shuffle the order of answers should the question be repeated

3. Provide detail explanation for every answers (not just for some questions)

4. For each correct answer, provide reference to PMBOK (not just Mulcahy's PMP exam prep)

I took my PMP exam on Aug 2, 2007. Here's the pros and cons for this software:

PROS
----

1. Questions test your knowledge of each process group and knowledge area.
2. It helps you get used to tackling situational questions
3. It helps you get your mind around how to answer tricky questions
4. It tracks your scores for each exam and shows where you are weak
5. You can practice questions on certain concepts or even try the "SuperPMP" mode which is harder than the regular PMP practice exam.

CONS
----

1. Questions are randomly selected for each exam which means there is a good probability of seeing the same question more than once. Problem with this is that it doesn't help gauge an accurate test score b/c you might just remember the answer for that question from memory and get a higher score.

2. No way to take practice exams w/o questions repeating.

3. Some questions do not work with Windows Vista.

One imp note: Contrary to popular opinion, I found the actual PMP exam TOUGHER than the the practice exams from this software!! I took 5 of these practice exams and scored till 92% but got a much lower score on the real exam.

I would still recommend this software to everyone...try out the SuperPMP exams and see how you do...quite a few questions on the real exam were much more difficult than I expected.

And yes, I did pass...so its all that matters! :)

Hello,

i have purchased following for the PMP preparation
1. Crosswing PMP Exam Sim 7.1
2. PMP FastTrack 5
3. 3rd PMBOK
4. PMP Exam Prep 5

I stoped using Crosswing as soon as i tried the also the Fasttrack. So i was using only items 2-4 from the list below for the preparation. That is more then enough to get 100% ready for the exam. Yesterday I did successfully the exam.

I passed the exam by taking my friends advice of not continuing using this CD. The new PMP exam is more tough, the questions are more direct.Rita's questions are more easy but answers are very different with some irrational explanation and page # reference. The Mulcahy questions were regressive in the sense that over the period of time I started answering mulcahy way of answering which was wrong so instead of building my knowledge I was getting more confused as to what was wrong or right. At time I thought it may be a deliberate attempt to make you buy more mulcahy books or courses.

Many new topics from PMBOK are not covered even though I bought the cd in April 2007. My advice would be read PMBOK, then take some online free sample test.

This software was alright. I didn't pass my test using this software and the material presented by Rita. I am not sure if maybe she wasn't direct enough. She has many hidden agendas in the questions themselves that do make you think, but that overthinking didn't help on a test that was already nervewrecking.

This exam prep software is awesome. I love the fact that it scores based on the # of questions answered, allowing you to take multiple short quizzes. I also love that it keeps a history of all test scores.

I'd highly recommend it, but with a couple of caveats:
(1) order it enough in advance to fully utilize it. I ordered mine less than 3 weeks before my scheduled test date and wish I'd had more time to spend with the tests.
(2) I had repeated problems with my software registration, which rendered my software useless. This always happened AFTER hours, of course, so I effectively lost 4 days of intense study time due to this issue. I don't recommend putting the software on a work-issued laptop. It worked fine on my home computer.

And, yes, I PASSED!

I used this product in order to given me an idea of what to expect when taking the PMP Exam. It allows you to get used to seeing the 4 hour time count down and to the idea of marking questions for review later so that you can move on to the next question without dwelling on it and wasting too much time. It also gives good explanations if you ever get any of the questions wrong but would like to understand why. All in all, a great way of getting ready to take the exam and getting into the right frame of mind. I passed my exam, so I recommend the product, particularly in conjunction with Rita's book.

I am currently using the PM FASTrack CD to prepare for the PMP exam. The usage of the program is simple and easy. The questions database with its appx. 1400 questions is appropriate and offers a wide range of areas to train for the exam. Questions by knowledge area and process group are available.
I found the CD most helpful in combination to the Book PMP exam prep.
What I have missed is the opportunity to save a started test and continue later without loosing the already answered questions.

I found this software EXACTLY mimics the PMP exam experience. It's rather expensive, but I thought well worth the price. I really liked the way I was able to concentrate on my problem areas and the fact that each answer was explained in detail, both why the correct answer was right and why the others were wrong. (I passed the test the first time!)

I also liked that I could leagally install it on two different machines. I did have some initial problems installing, but customer support was prompt and accurate.

This was the key element that helped me pass the exam. Books, courses, study groups,...etc are all good material to cover the understand the concepts. But going through the practice tests on this CD was the single most important factor!

I highly recommend this software to all who are studying for the PMP exam. There are a good number of questions on the CD. It will prepare you for the real thing! Good Luck!

I am amazed that someone who could have such a well written text and such apparent mastery of project management could sponsor such terrible software. Let's start with the fact that Amazon is distributing an old version - so you're down a few counts to start with. Second, the registration process is circa 1980 and confounds the most law abiding customer. We installed this on a laptop at the office and used it once successfully. Each additional time we turned the software on it required re-installation. The catch is you appear to be allowed only two installations and then the software locks out your license. This is apparently fixed in version 5.1 but, when download from the support website, the new version (5.1) tells us that our license has expired and we need to contact customer support during regular business hours. So, we dial the number like a good customer and get the "we're closed on saturday message". On a whim I selected legal department from the menu and ended up talking to a perfectly proper, though horribly unhelpful, legal counsel that simply repetitiously informed me that my only recourse is to call customer service Monday morning. So here's the catch. Our exam is at 7:30AM on Monday. I'm guessing that because the Author doesn't trust us to honor her license agreement and her software guys are too busy listening to their Pat Benatar LPs to stay current on their software copy protection methods that we're pretty much pooched.

So it is the Exam Cram 2 printed tests for us. Frustrating...

UPDATE (3/20/07): Passed my PMP exam on Monday without using the software! I called RMCProject to arrange a refund on the software and hit a brick wall. The less than helpful software support people at RMCProject were able to recite to me all the attempts I made to install the software but stand resolute in the opinion that I'm owed no credit for the software's failure to run over the weekend. When they accused me of buying the software 2nd hand it began to feel like I was on trial. I suggested that they add to their lessons learned database that their software protection methods are "critically flawed" (in truth I may have said it less elegently than that). More frustrated than ever. Oh well, more significant things to worry about.

The exam simulation software is invaluable for your study/preparation for the PMP exam. Why - because you can measure your progress/understanding. This is a companion for the PMBOK guide & the RM "PMP Exam Prep" books. Read chapters 1 - 3 in each book for an overview. Then your study focuses on the knowledge areas. Starting with chapter 5 (scope), you read the chapter material from each book and then at the end of the chapter study you use the RM exam simulation to test you knowledge, understanding and retention - by the chapter knowledge area. You take 30 to 40 questions at a time - when you get 80% in 2 consecutive tests; you're ready to move to the next knowledge area chapter. You progress through the last chapter and then come back and take chapter 4 (integration) because the integration chapter ties all the pieces together. BTW - as you take the test by knowledge area, you answer the question and then you can "peak" at the correct answer right after you answer the question. This gives you immediate feedback on whether you answered correctly, but more importantly in most cases it explains why the correct answer is the correct answer (really important, because the majority of the PMP questions are situational).
After you've completed the study by knowledge area, then you can take the exam simulations by process group. Since the PMP exam weighs the questions toward the planning, executing and monitor & control process groups - you take the last set of tests by these process groups. When you hit 80% or better, you should have the confidence in your knowledge to take the PMP exam.
Hope it helps you - it helped me. (Price is the only reason it did not get 5 stars.)

I purchased this software for one of my project managers who was studying to take the PMP exam. There was a problem loading to the work PC because you need admin rights to the machine, but we were able to figure it out. The Project Manager really liked it and said that the simulation tests helped most of all. She passed the exam with flying colors.
