Book arrived as expected. I have bought "Step by Step" books on many programs. This one, like the rest, has been very helpful. There are sections I skip because they are very basic, but other readers may find the basic information very helpful.

Book had a DVD with it and it didn't work. Returned book and DVD to Amazon for replacement and it still didn't work. Same problem.

Old system crashed and I was forced to upgrade to Vista. Nothing but problems. Even Microsoft Press own DVD don't work correctly

This is a God send for people who are not yet computer savvy. I also have an edition for Window's XP. You just take it one step at a time and before you know it you'll know your computer.

In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire Step-By-Step series especially MS Windows Vista and the MS Office group covering MS Office 2007. I strongly suggest any student, curious George or researcher to pick up any copy and read it. I recently purchased MS 2007 Access, Excel, Power Point and Word set in the Step-By-Step series as well as MS Windows Vista for my son. The authors are concise in their descriptions without being boring and the information is invaluable.

The disk that came with the book didn't work on my Lenovo laptop running Vista. So, the book was useless for me.

If you are new to Vista this is a must have book. Vista is super user friendly but is different from XP. The auto backup system is totally new and is covered in the book... Even if you are good with XP it is best not try to wing it with Vista.. Too many "gotchas" in Vista....

Book is well written for beginners and experts alike..

I am well pleased with Step by Step. Moving from Windows 98 to Vista is a traumatic experience for me, I needed some help and found it.

This book might be well suited to someone who has little or no experience with previous Microsoft OS. For the rest I recommend David Pogue's book if you are not of a mind to search through every Vista book on the market...

This is a very practical book. Sometimes the authors say things like "set up your prefernces" , which to me is not helpful. Since I am new to computer's I don't have any! I wish they would give their preferences. Just tell me what to do! Most of the book is good, because there is a lot of hands-on excercises. The practices help to cement the ideas. One thing about the Vista OS though is you will find a help button in each window you open. This book tells you where thoughs windows are. It's easy to follow. Buy this book! It's worth it. I didn't know there was so many things to learn until I got it.

This book is a good guide to the Vista operating system for someone with only a smattering of knowledge about the subject. It's clearly written in a rational manner, so I liked it a lot. Expect an occasional exasperating experience when you find the Vista coding has been changed since the book was written. I had to keep reminding myself that the atrocious features of the Vista system are not the fault of the book--it only reports what the system is doing.

Although initially intimidated about getting started with Vista, my fears eased as I got further and further into this very easy to understand guide. My confidence increased as I worked through the exercises on the CD. Joan Preppernau's style is friendly and approachable. She was always one step ahead of me in anticipation of the questions I had. If you have Vista, this book is a "must have."

I found this book to be very helpful. It doesn't just give you the steps to do little tasks like some of the other books I looked at; it explains the features and why you would use them, and shows you how to do things from start to finish. It also has a lot of helpful hints that aren't related to the exercises--last night my husband installed Vista Business Edition and couldn't find a feature he wanted, and I was able to find the solution immediately in this book.

This book is strictly for the newbie who has never used a computer before. The book is too simplistic reveals nothing not readily apparent and completely whitewashes any potential faults that might catch you unawares. There isn't anything in the entire book that can't be found in the help pages. The practice sessions are simplistic and a waste of time. One wonders why they even bothered with the CD. There isn't anything on it that couldn't be seen with files already included in Vista.

I'm hoping that Windows Vista Secrets won't be a waste of time. I'm looking for a book that will give me some insights to some hidden secrets, productivity tips and explore the annoyances as well as suggest work arounds.

Even if you've never used a computer before, you can do better than Windows Vista Step by Step. The book only takes you two steps in to Vista. I'm loving Vista though.
