Martha Stewart featured this book on her show a month or so ago (summer 2008) and she and some celebrity made a dog and a bunny. They're funky little animals and look very easy to make. For how-to purposes, you probably don't need the book, just the idea...but the book is good inspiration and the thinking and planning is done for you. The book is fun to look at and would make a good kid's book too. I'm thinking an argyle sock would make a great sweater for one of these little stuffed friends to wear!

A delightful book with a cute story presentation as well as simple and clear instructions on how to make the puppets. I have recommended this book to art and craft teachers.

I have been having a blast making stuffed toys for my kids using the patterns from this book. The pictures alone make it a fun book to read. The patterns are not step by step leaving you to add a lot of your own creativity to the finished product.

This book was prefect. I was novice sewer with only little sewing knowledge when I bought this book. It was worth a million bucks. The instructions were easy to follow and within two days of buying the book I was sewing each of my friends two or three little sock and glove animals.
It's great for last second gifts, birthday presents, and Christmas gifts.
Who doesn't want a cute, little cuddly friend?
I made myself three.
I liked the way the book was setup in story format. Instead of just instructions there was colorful photography and a storyline.
I'd recommend this for anyone from beginners to experts. Even months later, after I've had much more sewing experience I enjoy using the book and making more stuff animals!

This book is awesome. The toys are easy to make - some of them have been completed by my children aged 9 and 11 years old. There is only basic equipment required to make the toys and the stitching is easy. Step by step instructions of each toy and clothes to fit are also provided.

A great gift for someone with young children or a baby on the way. I am going to make these for my friends who are expecting. They will make great cheap gifts for all - christmas, birthday etc. My children have enjoyed raiding their old socks to make new friends...

This is the first japanese style craft book I have ever bought and it made me go out and buy several others, The projects are super cute and easy enough for a beginner such as myself. They only reason why I gave it a 4 was the title and the wording on the back cover and the "story" made it seem like these projects could be made with 1 sock or glove. All the projects require a set of gloves or socks. To me "cast off" means one random sock or glove missing it's partner. But no big deal- other than that really cute book.

This is really a neat book. I found out about it from an episode of Martha Stewart and had to get the book because the creatures are so adorable. The book has a storyline that introduces you to the dozen or so characters that you can make, and each character image shows you if you need a sock or a glove to make it.

The instructions in the back are clear to follow and easy to read. It also says that you can do all the sewing by hand and I believe it.

I can't wait to make a bunch of these as gift!

Great book! I made the dog and then the zebra (which turned out so adorable). Now I'm working on a bunny out of very soft, light blue gloves. I even made scarves for my dog and zebra. I can't wait to do the Panda and Elephant next. The pictures are too cute and the instructions along with graphics are easy to follow. If my bunny turns out as cute as the other animals I've made, I'm going to make a bunny (for Easter) for each of my nieces and nephews.

If you're looking for easy-to-do and fun craft projects this is the book for you. It's easy and inexpensive and the project goes fairly quickly. I did most of the sewing by hand but it can easily be done on a machine if you want to speed up the process. I watched television with my family while I was making them and they turned out just perfect.

I'm thinking about getting the other book by this author as well. Go ahead and give it a try - I think you'll love it!

The book has 40 pages that are more like a chhildrens picture book than a crafting instruction book. The instruction pages are only about a third of the book and only have simple line drawings in the instructions. I think space would have been utilized better with actual pictures with the instructions instead of a doll introducing us to his friends.

The book has some good ideas, but I would go to the public library instead of adding it to my own.

Sock and Glove is a great story and instructions book. The step-by-step instructions to create such charming looking sock and glove animals are very easy (if you know basic sewing skills), clear, and informative with pictures. This is one of the best craft books I have purchased. Definitely recommended!

This is a really fun book. So far we've made a monkey (from brown baby socks) and a zebra (from blue/white striped baby sockes) and both instrutions where very clear and easy to follow. I easily made both items in one evening.

This book is a winner on all counts. The photographs are clear and illustrative of the many stuffed creatures the author has made out of socks and gloves. A gentle little story weaves the reader through the menagerie of characters, far beyond your average sock monkey.

Most important to me, her instructions for the construction of all the creatures are terrific. Several of my friends said they were the clearest instructions they'd ever seen for that kind of toy. She even shows variations on facial expressions.

It's hard not to fall in love with these little stuffed animals, and after seeing my copy, many of my students and friends have gone ahead and ordered their own. One note: If I were making these for a baby, I would embroider on the details, not use buttons...Enjoy!

I found this book to be very helpful in creating sock items and have gotten much use out of the instructions. I also own "Stupid Sock Creatures" and both these books cover the spectrum of sock animals/creatures. Both have good instructions for putting them together and both books give you specific techniques so your creative juices can take off.

My son spotted this at the library, but most likely I'll be buying it. We simply loved the pictures of all these adorable stuffed sock friends (so much better than that creepy sock monkey). The enticing illustrations and well-written instructions inspired me (a girl who can barely sew a button) and made me think MAYBE, just maybe I can do this. Don't laugh, Mom.

I ordered this book because of the cute dog pictured on the cover! I was even more excited with the rest of the pictures in the book. The instructions are easy to follow with excellent pictures and drawings.

Even if you don't do any of the projects the book is great to look at. It brighted my day.

My husband better lock his sock drawer before I get to it.

So easy to make, we are going to try this as a teen craft at the public library at work in.

Has anyone found the source of the gloves/socks used in this book? I know any sock would do, but I like the look of these gloves and socks with their color band.

I love Japanese craft books.

No, I mean it. I *love* them. Love them so much that I'm willing to spend a zillion dollars in postage to get them here in the US, because they almost never disappoint.

I'd seen the japanese version of this book, and it's been on my wishlist at amazon.jp forEVER. So when I found out there was an english version, I dove on it with the voracity of a hungry shark on chum.

And I'm definitely not disappointed. True to the japanese craft book roots, the photography is gorgeous, the projects are so cute they'll send you running ofr insulin (in a good way), and the instructions are clear and follow-able, even to a non-seamstress like myself.

If this is a trend that publishers are heading toward -- reprinting these japanese favorites in english -- then let me be the first to stand up and applaud wildly. Maybe even whoop a little. Because if this book is any indication, it's going to be a fabulous, wild ride.

I love Japanese craft books, but I'm not so good following the Japanese instructions. So this book is just perfect--precious projects that work up fast thanks to blissfully simple instructions.

The projects are addictive, fun, and cheap to make. They're full of personality and easy to customize. I've already given a few of my creations as presents and they were a huge hit.
