This book describes what it is like to have Asperger's Syndrome with disarmingly simple language and adorable photos of kittens. Great for kids and adults. An absolutely lovely and well-crafted book!

This book seemed like such a bizarre idea that I just had to own it. But when I read it, I found that the concept worked well. I really enjoyed it, and my mom loved it, too. It does a fairly good job of explaining how Aspies are different, without implying that there's anything wrong with them. I also like how it spoke to the strengths of people with AS. Educational doesn't have to mean totally serious--when people are laughing, they are listening. My only problem with the book is that it only uses male pronouns. A small thing, sure, but most AS resources are targeted towards boys, and it's easy for Aspie girls to feel left out.

I have a 13 year old son who has AS. this book will be very good for younger children who dont quite understand whats going on with them. it was vert well written.

I found this at a Barnes & Noble and I read it then and there from cover to cover. The writing is geared more for elementary-aged children, but the pictures and the text, which compares cat behavior to that of a person with AS, is spot-on, if you want to gently introduce your child (AS or neuro-typical) to this unique condition to help them better understand a schoolmate, friend or even themself. It made me smile and I couldn't help inwardly cheering at how well-done this book is!

Speaking as a late-diagnosed person with AS (I'm 31 and was not diagnosed until I was 27), I gladly reccommend this book!

This is an excellent simple to read book. Very good for young and older people. My sons and I have read many times over. I would recommend to anyone!

At first, I just wondered why cats appear in this book because I wasn't quite sure what cats had to do with Asperger Syndrome. But, on second thought, Kathy Hoopmann might help parents with AS kids increase their understanding. Even adults with AS are sure to see what AS is like because she illustrated AS not only by words but pictures! We can't put down this book just because it's for kids only!
If possible, I'd have liked her to explain in advance why she associated cats with AS.

I'm an SLP with a son who is autistic. I purchased this for my kids' cousins to help educate them. This book is compassionate, truthful, and witty. Great for all ages. Highly recommend it!!

We recently learned that our son has Asperger's Syndrome. So I bought this book for all three of his Grandmothers for Mother's Day, and hope that they all have learned from it. As soon as I saw this in a local bookstore and leafed through it, I fell in love with the book! Yes, there are lots of charming cat pictures, but it is far more than just cute. I love the humorous way that it explains Asperger's. Very entertaining and informative!

This is an excellent selection for anyone who has a loved one or friend who has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. It is remarkably written and the cats make it easier for young people as well as older folks to understand the behavioral differences that invade the life of a child with Asperger. Our grandson who is 13 was recently diagnosed and I at first thought NO WAY!! then I saw the different behaviors that a child has with Asperger and it was like an EYE OPENER!! I recommend this book

Ten years ago, when I finally figured out what Asperger's was and, at the same time, I discovered that I had several Asperger's children, and a few Asperger's adults, on my caseload as a psychotherapist, I began searching for easy ways to explain Asperger's. It was, and still is, an uphill struggle.

I'd already found what, to my knowledge, remains one of the best general books on Asperger's Syndrome: Tony Attwood's Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals. It's great for adults wanting a clear, solid understanding -- parents, family members, teachers, mental health professionals, scout-leaders, church leaders, and friends of high school reading level & above. Later, Attwood produced some DVDs, Dr. Tony Attwood presents: Asperger's Syndrome, Volume 2, Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals with Dr. Tony Attwood, which broadened his outreach. Since then, AS book-publishing has become a cottage industry.

But until I read Kathy Hoopmann's "All Cats Have Asperger's Syndrome", I hadn't found something quick, accurate and easy to read & to understand. Hoopmann makes the common cues of Asperger's Syndrome not only instantly accessible but memorable. Even children can read it, and say, "Oh, yeah! That's Joey!" It's ideal for a fast, simple introduction.

The pictures -- all kittens -- are pure delight! Each one nails its idea. And the book invites re-reading -- it's almost addictively fun. I recommend it highly to those who want a confused grandparent or a modestly curious neighbor to better understand a child who, so often, operates out of a different world, while forced to live in this one.

And if you get them hooked, and they want to know more, then give them Attwood's book or DVDs. After that, you can broaden them with more specialty books -- teens (such as Freaks, Geeks & Asperger Syndrome: A User Guide to Adolescence; Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence: Helping Preteens & Teens Get Ready for the Real World), girls (Asperger's and Girls -- girls/women are a bit different, with only a fifth as many girls as boys with AS), resources (the Oasis on-line site, Tony Attwood's on-line site), etc. There are many good books & on-line resources, with more all the time.

And finally, hopefully, they can begin to see not only the Asperger's Syndrome & what it means/doesn't mean, but they can also see, most important of all: the real child in all his beauty, uniqueness & potential!

By the way, I wouldn't recommend this to explain AS to someone with AS. It's a book of analogies, something someone with AS will have a hard time understanding, and they may take away wrong & negative messages.

I stopped at a book store after receiving my son's diagnosis of AS. I was looking for a book by Tony Atwood and stumbled across "All Cats..." It was a godsend. That evening when I told my son that we finally knew what was "different" about him, he and I read this book together. He was 8 at the time. If I were a millionaire I would buy this book and have every psychologist in the world give it to clients when presenting the diagnosis.

An amazing book, written delightfully for the innocent eyes of a child. Every page is the perfect expalnation, defining Aspergers with simplicity, accuracy and delightful humor. My son asked if this book was written just for him, for he found himself in every page. Thank you Kathy Hoopmann for your beautiful heart.

Unlike a lot of conditions, Aspergers isn't something that can be detected by scans. It is basically a collection of attributes which actually differ in strength and in presence from one person to another. "All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome" basically bypasses all of the technical stuff and attempts to cover each of the symptoms with a one or two line answer and an appropriate picture.

It's surprisingly detailed and accurate while still being a book you can read in under 30 minutes. It's suitable for explaining aspergers to relatives, parents, friends and school children.

Every aspie should have a copy.

His two brothers also thought it was wonderful - the descriptions are accurate and the pictures of the cats delightful. I recommend this to anyone for a simple way to learn about a complicated mindset. Thank you to Kathy Hoopmann!

Any child who interacts with cats will find this book delightful. It can also help a child understand his own or another's diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. It is quirky, funny, upbeat, and also very much on point. It can make a great conversation starter about what Asperger Syndrome is.

What a gem!!!! My 8 year old has Aspergers along with a variety of other physical and mental health issues. He has had an affinity for cats since an early age, and I bought this book as a way to help him feel good about himself....it is worth every penny!! Beautifully written and illustrated (absolutely spot-on photography!!), there are just enough words to provide the reader with an overview of what it feels like to suffer from this isolating disorder, yet it also presents the affliction in such a way that my child does not feel like an outsider...with its humorous approach, it allows him to identify with a living, breathing creature (the cat) that is acceptable to others, therefore giving him away to communicate to others that while he is certainly different, he is not a "wierdo" as he sometimes gets called by those uneducated/uninformed about Aspergers and its unique/quaint associated manifestations. This book will long remain a favorite...he shows it to those he wants to help understand how he feels, and so far there has been an overwhelmingly positive response!! I believe that even if a child is not ready to share his/her challenges with others, this book can provide comfort to them...it can also be used by the parent to educate others about how the child views life around them.
There are no lengthy explanations or detailed discourses regarding Aspergers in this book, but again, that is not the intention of the book.... this picture-loaded book is designed to be simple and help both the child and those around him/her feel more at ease with the way Aspergers children interpret life and act upon their feelings. Great addition to your library!!

I normally dispise cutesy books like this and I am not really a cat person. But I saw this and started flipping through it, nodding my head-almost crying. It's such a well-written, simple book that is very heartwarming, charming, and funny. It makes finding more things to love about my son so much more fun! I've given this book as a gift to several family members to explain AS to them in a way that reminds them that there are wonderful things about my son, many of them can even be attributed to his AS. It's very positive. I also recommend this one to teachers of inclusion classes who will have a child with an ASD in their classroom, to help them and their students know what to expect in their new classmate.
Please note, this is not (nor should it be) an in-depth, scholarly work on AS.

Understanding what type of book this is, it works very well. I have a 7 yr old grandson who was just diagnosed with Aspergers, and when I got the book, we read it together. He was delighted with the pictures and on many of the pages he would say "that's me!" It was a great way to open the door to discussing his syndrome with him. Of course, not all characteristics are true of all people, so we would say, "well that is not really like you....you are much more..." But it did open doors to talk about things maybe he did not understand, or see why other peers may tend to treat him a little differently or why he would tend to see things differently. As I said it is simple, but a great source of basic understanding that can be used to go beyond that point.

I bought this book because my 11 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. I thought it would be a helpful book for her as well as her younger sister who is 8 years old to read. I was a little wary about her reading the book at first because I was afraid that where the book touches on some of the down points of AS might upset my daughter. However, she absolutely loved the book! She read it over and over. It also helped my younger daughter to understand more what her sister was going through. And the pictures of the kittens are so cute!! My daughter's principal even borrowed the book to use for a presentation she did on Asperger Syndrome and Autism. I would highly recommend this book.

This book has been very helpful to our family. It is a good, basic book that has helped not only our 9 y/o start to grasp the Asperger concept, but has also helped her peers. We are an average family dealing with Asperger's, just trying to raise our Aspy child as best as we can. We have used this book in the classroom to teach her peers what Aspergers is and why she might behave differently than most kids her age. The kids in her class now look at her as more of a little sister who needs help than a weird kid to be avoided. The book has helped our child understand that yes, she is a different, but that is okay and there are great things about her because she is different. Simply put, it is a good resource to teach others about ways Aspy kids or people might behave.

A lovely, well presented book which helps those who have just been diagnosed or younger children to recognise the similarities in them and come to terms with them. They can perhaps realise that 'there is a little bit of Asperger in us all.'

I am so excited about this book because it really is true to life. My son has Asperger's and he loved this book. We went over the symptoms it explains and he was so comfortable with it he allowed me to take it to the family get together when he was not able to go to explain why he doesn't come to our get togethers. I have often asked him if he would like to write a book about his experience with Asperger's and he doesn't think he could do it. (He is a writer too.) This book was just as if he had writen it for himself.

This book is adorable - and SO true! I've noticed the similarities between my aspie daughter and her cat, but never thought to seriously compare them. We keep this book displayed on a shelf and have friends and relatives read it when they visit in order to help them understand a little more about our daughter.

This book is so cute and very much easy to read. It really helped me understand my son in a very unique way. Co-workers passed this book around the office and a lot are buying it themselves!

I bought this book for my Asperger son who loves cats and it is the perfect book for him. It illustrates many of the feelings and challenges he faces with a cat illustrating an example.

Other reviews told it well - that this was very simplistic and the pictures of the cats were cute. Yes, I agree. I mainly bought it to read to kids and show pictures of cats and "teach" a little about how we are all different and unique. It is a good starter but the adult needs to go ahead and read, read, read about autism and other related disorders.

This is a great book on so many levels. First, and most obvious, if you have ever had a cat, you will love this book. You will find your little ball of fur on more than one page in this book. Pure feline entertainment! And if you have ever anthropomorphized your cat, well, this is the book for you!

But on the more serious side, if you have a child, grandchild, or just know a child with Aspergers, and are confused or overwhelmed with books and information, this book is like a course outline on Aspergers. The pictures and captions, cute and entertaining as they are in the cat world, can help those of us new to Aspergers to have a better understanding of what life might be like for many of these children. I even found myself on some of these pages... ah, one in particular... "Sometimes his relatives think they could bring him up better than his parents can." My face is red. How did they know????

So if this book can educate as well as entertain, it is a great book to have around or to give to a friend or relative who is living with a child who has had this diagnosis. Or it is a great book to give to any of your cat loving friends! The pictures alone make it a treasure!

This was a Christmas gift for my 29 year old daughter with Aspergers. She absolutely loved it, and so did I. I would recommend this book for anyone and any age.

I was excited ordering this book for my son since he is such an animal lover. He does have a very soft heart, which is probably why this book was NOT a good choice for him. My son is exactly for the most part like all the descriptions in the book, however I do not suggest you give it to the aspie child. I think it's more for other children to see to help explain your child. My son ended up balling his eyes out and it took him awhile to calm down after reading this book. Asking him why he's so upset it is to help him he yells because it's true!!! :( I suppose it was not good to remind him he does not have friends, or is different.

The book is cute, and I think again it could be positive explaining Aspergers to your child's peers. But I regret buying it for my son.

This book is not meant for pre school nor elementary school children even though writen in the formate of such. It is a great tool for parents and others who will paly a role in raising and interacting with children who have Aspergers. I would, with processing, use it as a tool in treatment of pre teens or teens with the syndrome, to help them understand what they are experiencing. The book will be an eye opener for some and serve as reassurance so to say for others. It will confirm obsevations of things that puzzled them at first, things they were not sure if they were actually observing. "Did he just..." moments will turn into light bulb moments. I wish I had discoved this book sooner. It may have helped me be more proactive in some instances. The book is so simply put but so very very clear on possible traits.

I got this book as a Christmas gift for my daughter who has a son with Aspergers. My daughter is also a cat lover. When I read the book, it was just so "on the money" with the personality/characteristics of my grandson. It is an ideal book to educate others about Aspergers Syndrome, even children.

All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome

This book is an outstanding resource for anyone who knows or lives with a person with Asperger Syndrome. It is easy to read and truly makes understanding some of the outward and inner affectations of Aspergers easier for the lay person.

I have shared the book with our school counselor and several teachers who interact daily with students with Aspergers. They have really enjoyed the book.

This book was so good! I bought it thinking it would just be a cute book with silly cat pictures, but this is an amazing and honest book about Asberger's syndrome. I have an autistic son of my own, plus an asbergers niece and every page had me thinking of certain incidences with both kids. I work with special needs kids and showed it to my co-workers and now there are about 5 copies in my school!

No detailed explanations or practical information here; just a very fun book that compares Aspergers to the life of cats with beautiful cat photos. My only gripe is the page that says we are all a little bit Asperger. I can see its potential for helping siblings and definately a great book for teachers to use to explain a particular student's disability.

A very sweet and visually lovely introduction to AS. However a simple picture book cannot address the variety within AS so it failed to describe my little Aspie who is extremely cuddly but has many sensory, social and "theory of mind" challenges. All the same a great foundation for all sorts of conversations. I do wish it had emphasized more of the positive aspects of AS but also think it is nice to acknowledge that life can be tough with AS and it did this well!

This is a wonderful book that allows people who are not familiar with some of the traits of this disorder to understand by relating to cat behavior. My daughter's therapist raved when she saw this book as it helps my child to see herself through her cats behaviors. With the incidence of Aspergers seemingly on the rise, I highly recommend this book to anyone who works with children and young adults.

This book is a great way for an Asperger's child to feel more normal.
(Whatever the child thinks is normal. And it is important to them).
Each statement about an aspect of Asperger's has visual of a cat showing
what that thought looks like for a cat, or maybe even the child.
I think all school districts should have this an a mandatory reading.
Once Asperger's is better understood, what a good life we all could
begin to experience.

Great book for children, adults, and school counselors to understand the condition in a quick simple way. They left out a few key components to the syndrome, but covered many others. I recommend the book.

I love books. They help explain and start discussions of difficult or complicated issues so beautifully. I was looking forward to this one, since I was intrigued by the title concept. Therefore, my disappointment was even stronger when I received and reviewed this book, which I purchased to use with my son (who has Aspergers and LOVES cats) in discussing his Aspergers with him. While I agree that Aspergers was properly shown as a neurological-rather than mental health- issue, its characteristics are not presented or explained in a positive light. Also, although each person with Asperger's is different, many of the traits didn't even come CLOSE to being correct for my son (or in line with other reading I have done.) All in all, the result was that I did something I have very seldom done. I an area where recycling and sharing is my passion, I threw this book away and felt I had done a service to others by doing so. Save your money and try "Blue Bottle Experiment" by Kathy Hoopmann instead. (There are lots of other places to find similar "cute kitty pictures.")

I have a son with Aspergers and I am a school teacher. I read this book with my son and with my students. It is a light-hearted way to teach about Aspergers and encourage discussion. I highly recommend this book.

If you are a cat fan, and I am, you will enjoy the pictures enormously. The captions are pretty good too, a little simplistic, but nice. Again, as a former sp.ed. teacher and as a teacher of autistic children I find it a little oversimplistic re: the problems Asperger's kids have.

I got this book for my 8 yr old son with Asperger's. His best friend is our family cat and he loved how the book related his cat to him.
Near the end it sort of veers away from real cat traits and mostly just describes AS, but it's still fun.

A very cute book, the pictures are adorable. This may be helpful for kids (or siblings) who love animals, it may help them make sense of a condition that can be confusing. It encourages the reader to be more sympathetic and compassionate of Asperger's persons, since the kitties are so appealing. However, not all the pictures will correspond to every person with Asperger's, since each case is unique. Also, I have a small problem with the title, since I myself don't really think cats are all that much like Asperger's kids. Asperger's kids really want to socialize and please, and most cats are just fine on their own, quite independent. (And Asperger's kids don't ruin furniture!)The sensory similarites are more accurate, however, with gaze aversion, tactile defensiveness, etc.

My 7 year old daughter finally understands her brother more after reading this cute book about cats. The pictures are sweet and the message is strong and consice. I think this book is great for anyone trying to "explain" Aspergers to friends and family. Great find!

I was expecting a book with little more detail into Asperger Syndrome with a humorous spin on the subject. This was basically a picture book with different captions for each cute cat photo. It was cute and took all of 5 minutes to page through and read. Mildly entertaining but not very informative.

What a great book for explaining Asperger's Syndrome for everyone! We bought it for our Parent Advisory Group.

This book really describes my personal experience with Aspergers Syndrome. Since it is written at a child's level, it may help children who have Aspergers and their friends come to a more tolerant understanding of it. I am going to lend it to some adults I know, maybe they will be more understanding.

Also on top of all this, the photographs of the cats are quite beautiful. They selected some of the prettiest cats I have ever seen for subjects. Recommended for cat lovers also.
