I have merely read random chapters /pages off the Manual and I am already totally convinced it is a wonderful buy that I have made. The style of presentation is easy-going even when it is dealing with serious subjects and that is good for a Manual one wants to read in a relaxed mode.

Who knew your body could be so entertaining?! I thought I'd get some helpful information, which I did, but so much more. The best aspect of this book is that I wanted to finish each chapter and could understand the points each Dr. wanted to get across to an apple head like me.

This book thus far is amazing. Knowing the functions of all organs and how the food in your body will effect each function was eye opening. We need to take care of our bodies not just by exercise, but also by knowing each organs functions and the "fuel" we should be putting in it.

A little bit goofy, a refreshing sense of humour, but not a lot of in-depth information. Good for a teenager, perhaps--but not especially informative for a well-read adult.

There are 2 reasons why I chose to read this book. Dr. Oz on The Oprah Show has gotten the public to openly talk about the function of their body parts in ways that many didn't dare even think about - let alone allow themselves to be free to talk about.
Also, while sitting at a JuicePlus presentation, I found it interesting that everyone kept talking about how much we need to add fruits and vegetables in our diet, but no one talked about assessing what we are eating now, how our body functions, and the fundamental things we must do to honor being on earth. They seemed to be sold, without question, as though they are at church, and not free to challenge the beliefs. In "You: The Onwer's Manual," this and more is discussed. Questions are asked, allowing you to have those "Ah hah" moments. I particularly like that from the beginning to the last page this book is written in a way that talks to my soul, and truly makes me have belly laughs, while I hone my "body maintenance skills," if you will. I recommend this book as a great source amongst books about living fully. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-29 00:54:16 EST)

This delightful 544-page book begins with a quiz, "How Well Do You Know Your Body?" It continues with how blood is pumped throughout your body, how your brain works, how your body moves, how you breathe, how food is digested, how your immune system works, and how sexual and sensory organs work. This updated edition of the book includes the quiz along with a new chapter on the liver and pancreas, which describes the function and purpose of each. The authors also debunk popular myths about the body.
The contents include: Preface Chapter 1: Your Body, Your Home: Super Health Chapter 2: The Beat Goes On: Your Heart and Arteries Chapter 3: Do You Mind: Your Brain and Nervous System Chapter 4: Motion Control: Your Bones, Joints, and Muscles Chapter 5: To a Lung and Healthy Life: Your Lungs Chapter 6: Gut Feelings: Your Digestive System Chapter 7: In Your Trunk: Your Liver and Pancreas Chapter 8: Sex Marks the Spot: Your Sexual Organs Chapter 9: Common Sense: Your Sensory Organs Chapter 10: Sick Sense: Your Immune System Chapter 11: This Gland is Your Gland: Your Hormones Chapter 12: Hell Cells: Cancer Chapter 13: The Owner's Manual Diet Chapter 14: The Owner's Manual Workout Chapter 15: FAQs Index This book is both instructive and entertaining. It includes a large (70-page) chapter on diet, which has over 30 recipes. The diet really emphasizes keeping your body healthy and young. The book also has a 24-page chapter, "Owner's Manual Workout", which provides easy-to-do exercises. This is a great book that makes understanding the human body accessible to those without a degree in physiology. Another favorite of mine is THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-26 00:12:38 EST)

I LOVE this book!!! Enough that I bought this "improved and expanded version" after having bought the original, and that is rare for me. It is written with a hint of humor and such a plain layman's language that EVERYONE can understand what is going on with their bodies, how they work, every organ in your body, what its job is, how to take care of it, how to protect it, improve its doing the job its meant to do, thus helping one to avoid many ills they could get, and thus less visits to the Dr. or how to better communicate with your Dr. to help them help you. Every home should have this book!!! I believe this is the only book of this kind and so complete for the ANY person. It definitely is NOT a boring read, but written in such a fun and interesting way everyone who wants to understand how their body works or is concerned about how to take care to feel better, would enjoy learning from this book. It has many drawings showing how your internal parts work . I HIGHLY Recommend it!!!

This book is awesome. It is written in such a way that reading it is very enjoyable. Combine that with the fact that the way the information is presented also makes it very interesting and hard to put down. It makes the mysteries of our bodies very easy to understand, as well as explaining the factors that help or hurt. This book has the potential to change anyones life behaviors.

This was a very fun and informative book. I learned things about my body and its workings that I never knew. Reading this has led me to make smart choices especially about dieting. Who knew that eating a few nuts before a meal would help me not eat as much? It is written in language anyone can understand while still keeping the correct medical terms. I am reall looking forward to reading more in this series.

In 1989 I suffered a massive heart attack. The next two years were traumatic stays of days, weeks, and months, in the hospital suffering from V-tack, heart failure, and other life-threatening ailments.
My ordeal began to end on March 31, 1991 when I was the joyful recipient of a heart transplant. It has changed everything. "YOU" may have helped me prevent the heart attack if I could have read it in 1988. It is a jewel for every human being today and I hope many will read and heed its lessons and instructions. You, the Owner's manual is a must read for those of us who want to know the latest facts about health. I could read this book 20 times and still learn more interesting facts about how my body works and the latest about nutrition. But it is so much more. There are exercises, there's meal planing for a healthy life and little myth and factoid sections that answer a lot of your most asked questions
I would highly recommend this book for all who want to keep their bodies running like a fine tuned machine. To be the best we can be for as long as we can. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-04 01:12:45 EST)

Ordered the book and audio CD at the same time, but the book came in first. I started the book which I found to be a slow read. Then received the CD's (8 hours/7 disc). . . I love them!! I'm able to listen in the car and when I get home, I highlight in the book things that are important to me. This way I don't feel I have wasted time reading sections that don't pretain to me but I have listened to it all. The CD's are narrated by Dr's. Roizen and Oz. I highly recommend both versions.

I am really impressed with this book. I've been looking to start making positive changes in my lifestyle to ensure that as I age I can delay health problems that come with it as long as possible. I never like hearing what I should be doing and instead want to understand and believe in something before making significant changes in my life.
What this book managed to achieve is to lay out relatively dry and droll information in a way to make it interesting, minimally corny, and easy to understand and relate to. That is no easy. You want to know how much I like this book? It is a pretty large, relatively heavy volume, and I tossed my mystery novels out of the bag and took it with me on a long flight business trip. It's interesting enough that I wanted to read it first. I am about 2/3 through now, but I still have 2 days of trip and a long flight left. Now, if I could just figure out how to convince my husband to read it. I guess I'll have to continue "informing" him of what I've learned. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-22 01:09:04 EST)

What a fun and important book! Everyone with a body should have a copy.
When I first cracked it open I landed on page 234: Figure 8.1 The Male Dipstick (yes, that's how it's titled). At first glance the full-page illustration of the male reproductive organs appears to be from any science reference book, but then I look again. Mr. Peanut is drawn hanging onto a tubule inside the scrotum. This kind of silliness permeates "You: The Owner's Manual." The humor and breezy tone makes it a surprisingly easy read. The first two-thirds of the book covers everything in the human body, from the heart and brain to the lungs and liver. The last third focuses on ways to keep your body healthy. A 70-page chapter called the Owner's Manual Diet has more than 30 recipes, enough for a 10-day trial. The diet isn't so much about losing weight, but about "making you feel better, helping you live younger, and slowing the effects of aging." The following chapter, the Owner's Manual Workout, illustrates some simple exercises. Throughout the book are fun "Factoids." Did you know that pound for pound, the tongue is the strongest muscle? Also scattered throughout are lots of little quizzes. Under the dust jacket is a plain red cover. Here's the chapter list: 1. Your Body, Your Home: Super Health 2. The Beat Goes On: Your Heart and Arteries 3. Do You Mind: Your Brain and Nervous System 4. Motion Control: Your Bones, Joints and Muscles 5. To a Lung and Healthy Life: Your Lungs 6. Gut Feelings: Your Digestive System 7. In Your Trunk: Your Liver and Pancreas 8. Sex Marks the Spot: Your Sexual Organs 9. Common Sense: Your Sensory Organs 10. Sick Sense: Your Immune System 11. This Gland is Your Gland: Your Hormones 12. Hell Cells: Cancer 13. The Owner's Manual Diet 14. The Owner's Manual Workout 15. FAQs (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-22 01:09:04 EST)

There is a reason Dr. Mehmet C. Oz and Michael F. Roizen write best-sellers--their books are excellent. You: The Owner's Manual, Updated and Expanded Edition: An Insider's Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger, they outdo themselves. This edition has been carefully updated and expanded to teach the reader everything we need to know to keep our bodies healthy and young.
Specifically, the updated version includes a chapter on the liver, new recipes and a new workout. The book also includes a 100 FAQ's from their reader's inquiries. The book resembles the Dummies in layout and tone and the authors write simply and, at times, with humor. Included are "Factoids" and the like. The book begins with information on how to achieve superior health. There are chapters on the major organs and how they function, cancer, workouts and recipes. There is an extensive index, a must for this type of book. The reference book is a must for every library. By the author of the award winning book, Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-20 00:57:32 EST)

In short, just a very fun and informative book with several worthy goals. For one, it educates your average person in the inner workings of the human body. It does this quite entertainingly through frequent quizzes, trivia, facts, and interesting pictures- for instance the authors use a lot of elf cartoon. Corny, but fun.
Additionally, the book also gives one many helpful tips on how to keep their body running smoother and it is a pretty informative and amusing read that should enhance the well-being of many- especially middle-agers like me who want to learn more about how their bodies work so they can keep it running smoothly in the years to come. Aged readers may also be interested in Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff to keep the shoulder working well- 54% of people over the age of 60 have a torn rotator cuff. Note: People who have read the first "You The Owner's Manual" will notice additional information on the liver and pancreas, as well as a new workout chapter. Do you understand your body, what's inside it, and how it works? These well-qualified and charming doctors have expanded and updated their fun and informative book, "YOU: The Owner's Manual". The message I get from this book is that knowledge is power, and knowing how our bodies work will improve our quality of life and help us live longer and healthier.
The "Owner's Manual" walks you through the body explaining each system in an interesting and entertaining manner. It gives you perspective on the vascular, digestive, immune, skeletal, and respiratory systems, as well as the heart and brain. This updated edition of the book includes a quiz, "How Well Do You Know Your Body?" as well as a new chapter detailing the liver and pancreas, explaining how they work and why they exist. The book also includes updated scientific/medical information, a new workout chapter, new recipes, answers to about 100 reader questions, and an explanation of common misunderstandings about the body. It also provides nutritional guidelines, an eating plan, exercise tips, lifestyle suggestions, and recommendations on healthy aging. The book also explains how diseases begin, how they affect the body, and how to prevent and overcome their effects. I have been impressed by the sincerity with which these two physicians go about helping people to understand their bodies, improve quality of life, and live longer, healthier lives. I recommend this book. Debra Lawrence, author of THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-20 00:57:32 EST)

I pre-ordered two of these books, giving one to my parents. They instanting "took" to it. It's written in a very simple way, with nice diagrams and such. I'm an English Literature graduate, but I like it when people can communicate in simple terms. Too many people use "big" words to make themselves sound intellectual. If you want folks to actually understand what you're saying, you need to speak in plain and simple terms. These authors do just that. I'm also a fan of the For Dummies series, which capitalized on the concept of user friendly books. Everyone should own the Owner's Manual to that most amazing invention of all... the human body. I'll always keep a copy on my desk, as will my parents.
