Very complete listing of all Luger variations with enough detail to distinguish between similar models. With no background I was able to use the Handbook to identify my two Lugers by year and producer.

I bouhgt this book because I am very new to Lugers. I should have read the reviews first. How can a book be rated at such extremes? Either great or terrible. Who do you believe?

Very inaccurate in descriptions of various models, proofmarks, manufacturers, etc. The author does not even properly describe the basic operation of this type of weapon, he calls it a blowback when it is a recoil operated weapon. Such a basic error gives you some idea of the rest of the book. In defense of the book it is after all a handbook but it should be accurate.

Did not buy it: if the sample pages show that Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) is spelled as Deutche Waffen und Munitionsfabrik I know to look elsewhere for accuracy. Do your homework!

Luger was only a name in the history to me, until i got my first 1907 luger. This book showed me the easy way to understand the luger world, and to find out if I was defraud or not. Very good book for beginners, very easy to read, very claver selection chart.... what else can you expect for such a little and unexpensive book ?

While not absolutely accurate about every little detail this is a useful book; until you get to the pricing! I suppose the people who own the various guns will be pleased (I know I am) but the pricing is ridiculous. It is way too high; perhaps twice what it should be at least!

(Hide Review...)  Great concise book, not totally accurate however.

This book lists all Mauser made Lugers as having strawed small parts which is only partially correct. Many Military issue Lugers made after 1937 had blued parts. I found the remainder to be accurate, informative and especially concise. Provides a real benefit to the gun show shopper!

(Hide Review...)  A compact guide for basic identification of Luger pistols.
Reviewer Permalink
While seemingly brief at only 91 pages, this pocket sized volume serves as a remarkably functional beginners guide to identifying Luger pistols. Utilizing a 'process of elimination', the reader chooses from among various possible markings/features which are displayed in flow chart format. Based upon the reader's choices the trail then leads on to one or more specific pages which display information about the probable model the reader is attempting to identify. Very detailed and well designed, this is the ideal 'back pocket' companion to accompany any potential Luger buyer to gun shows or Luger showrooms. Kudos to Mr. Davis.
