The book is a basic guide used by dealers. However, it is only a guide and a guns condition is the biggest factor. Beware of mediocre guns priced at 98% condition. Alot of dealers value or price all their guns at or far above the 100% condition value. After years of trading, I dont understand where the value estimates come from. A guns rareity also plays a big part in its pricing. Condition should be the biggest pricing factor. Beware, Some guns in 100% condition are just barely saleable at any near book value. Other guns sell for many times the book value. Age and rareity dont necessary correlate to a premium price. Some brands like Colt, S&W, Ruger, Browning will command a higher price or be more saleable. Beware...dealers want to buy at 50% of the guns book value.

Very good reference. Includes information not found elsewhere such as stamping legends, photo references for condition rating and serial numbers for certain models to verify year and country of fabrication. Truth is you probably need more than one reference to get a more complete valuation. But this is definitely one to have. Plus I was very impressed by their email responsiveness. I sent an email with a question and had a response within one working day.

Great book for looking up firearms prices you should not be without one.

This book has a ton of guns in it, but there are lack of images that can help you determine the gun that you are looking for. It demonstates ways to use the scale to determine the quality of the firearm as well. There are also multiple versions of each firearm. Great for dealers, but for the common gun enthusiast, you may want to look into a book with more images and more basic pricing on general firearms.

very informative, but I would say the only negative is in the formatting of the info. You can go through page after page of values of Winchesters and is very difficult to actually find the gun you seek. Be prepared for chapters to switch without much visual cue or warning from shotgun to centerfire to rimfire etc...Would have been so much better if the editors would have posted the category info like by the page number. Good info when you have a smaller company or easier to find gun to look up though

This is one of the most informative price guides I have ever read. A breif history of most manufacurers is included at the beginning of the entry, contact , trade mark , and serial number information are included in the back of the book. The introduction contains great information with color photos on grading. This one is very well done.

This is THE guide you need, however, it is only a guide and as such can only vaguely reflect what the market is doing. Still, it is the one that all the gun dealers use and therefore is the closest approximation to what a firearm's current market value is.

This is obviously a book for the professional gunsmith or collector. I had received a few very old and abused guns (pistols and longarms)from my uncle , and wanted a book of PICTURES and information to help me decide what I had in my inheritance.There are some pictures at the front of the book to help you determine CONDITION of a weapon in a collector value way. This is a thick book of page after page of information containing serial numbers and dates of manufacture but really no help to me, due to the lack of photographs. If you are looking for serial numbers and dates of manufacure and so forth with no pictures, it will be worthwhile for you.This is basically a technical manual for professionals.

I am a retired gunshop owner and over the years I have used the Blue Book in my business to accuratly grade, appraise, purchase & sell firearms. I seldom used any other publication for this purpose. I now just collect guns and I still rely on the Blue Book. This is the professional's choice.

A quite complete reference work wich is very handy if you need to look up something fast. European guns are more or less overrated.

As stated above, this is a very good reference book on many makes and models of firearms, but, unfortunately the values are retail - and high end retail at that. No one is going to be able to use this manual for determining what his gun is going to be "sold for" - nor will he be really certain as to what he will pay for a weapon he is researching. The only way I have found that this manual works even somewhat accurately is to use the 80% condition column as a ballpark estimate on the weapon's approximate value - and that is based on the weapon in question being nearly in new condition. A true "Blue Book" gives more in the line of fair market values or even dealer trade-in values. The older Williams Gun Sight Co. "Blue Book of Gun Dealing" was much more accurate as far as weapon value was concerned. Glenn C.

This book is great. It has almost every firearm listed, has full color photos of different grades, as well as how to grade your firearms. The complete source for grading and pricing. However, the serialization section is full of holes. I was expecting a more complete listing, but it leaves you wanting more.

If you are active in the purchasing and selling of firearms this is the only book you need, also handy if you have a collection that you want to value or Lord forbid make an insurance claim.

The item is fine, however, Amazon's shipping procedures are very slow, and inadequet. I paid for an upgrade in shipping, and the item was two days late, with no explanation from Amazon.I will remember this the next time I need to order.

Excellent and very comprehensive Gun Value Book covering numerous Mfgs.

The "Blue Book of Gun Values" 27th ed. is a great buy. Retail is around $40, and well worth it, but for almost half the price on amazon, an excellent deal. With updated values, this edition will surpass the previous especially with current events involving Winchester. Buy it for an accurate "Blue Book" price on guns.

I have an earlier edition and it was a useful tool when pricing firearms to buy or sell. Use this book as a good litmus check for firearm pricing.

This is the first edition of the Blue Book that I have used, so I cannot comment on any changes or improvements. After some additional fumblings, I found its listings easy to read and its format easy to use. Entries are listed by company, then by type (e.g. shotgun, rifle, revolver, automatic pistol, and the like), and then by individual model.

This work is most useful for gun shop owners who need to look up values for items they may not be used to dealing with. It's use extends to the collector or trader who wants to find gun values for insurance or sale purposes.

If you have only one book for valuing your guns, this is the one to buy. It is the reference used by most all dealers when establishing value of guns. Guns are shown for each manufacturer by type - pistol, revolver, shotguns, rifles, etc. A simple explanation of each model is given with values for options and condition of the gun. If you collect guns, get this latest issue and be on the same level as the dealers where you trade.

I deal with guns on a daily basis and I refer to this book several times a day. Most of the values listed in the book seem to correspond with the market. However, U.S. military firearms and some of the Colt pistols are listed too low. For collecting purposes the descriptions are too vague. I refer to the many auction sights and specialty dealers on line that list these types of weapons for sale. Some of these dealers are are highly reputable and published authors on US martial weapons.These types of firearms increase in value quickly as the interest in U.S.military history grows. This book does not reflect the rapid increase in value that these guns have made in the past few years. Overall this book is very useful, but when researching the value of a specific military weapon, consult the internet or buy a book.

this book is worth every penny my husband absolutely loves it and uses it everyday he said it was the best gun value book he has ever owned and that he would highly recommend it.It gives you all the information you would ever need concerning the value of any gun.

One of the best edition yet! Color photes wre added to help grade the value of your firearms. I have 5 older editiond but this one is best. The omly thing they could improve one is an index by make and model as finding your make and model is a little difficult but this is still a good book to add to your library
