For many years (35) I have relied on this book as a guide to firearms values. It is the most complete gun guide published.

This is the standard for gun values. It is the one I see used by the dealers at all the gunshows. While it is not perfect, it is a the most information I have ever seen about gun values in one place. Some information may be in error, but given the sheer volume of entries, the errors are minor. I have been studying guns for over thirty-five years, and was amazed at how many guns and makers were listed that I had never heard of. Buy this one if you want to get fair value in your gun deals.

I guess they were in a time crunch. This book doesn't have all guns in their value. I have three gun not in the book how many more are missing? I say do your job!

I have been using this tome since first came on the market when it was Barry Fains Blue Book of Gun Values and the book was Blue.! ( 1981 ed., vol.1 - # 1 )it has made me a gang of sales and lots history .

I find this book a valuable tool to determine my appraisal of firearms. It has a great instruction section for an aid in condition of the guns.

If you buy, sell, or inherit a gun...you probably want to know what is worth. This is the book to tell you. The rating system, to tell you what condition your gun is in, is a little confusing for a novice, but not too bad.

My library did carry this, but they only had an older edition. You might want to check that first.

The blue book of gun values is the best publication of it's type. However, it's not perfect. The biggest problem is that many prices in the book simply don't reflect the going rate. This is mainly true for models recently discontinued ~ in the last 2-3 years (for example HK P7 series are WAY off of actual street price) as well as any "assault weapons" that seem to change rates on every rumor of new litigation. So, while it is a good resource, you end up double checking online sites like AuctionArms and Gunbroker to determine price anyway. Also, many gunstores seem to refer to this publivation when buying, but it's strangly absent in their arguments as to why their used stock is priced so high.... That said, it IS the best of what's out in the printed world, so it gets 4 stars in my book.

If you need just a quick and dirty "appraisal" of your firearms, this is the place to go. You can see in an instant if you are getting the best price for your firearms, or if someone is trying to rip you off! All of the manufacturers options are listed too, so don't believe the guy that tells you he paid extra for an option that doesn't even exist. This is a good place to start, for beginners to experts. Well laid out, easy to find info.

The book is a basic guide used by dealers. However, it is only a guide and a guns condition is the biggest factor. Beware of mediocre guns priced at 98% condition. Alot of dealers value or price all their guns at or far above the 100% condition value. After years of trading, I dont understand where the value estimates come from. A guns rareity also plays a big part in its pricing. Condition should be the biggest pricing factor. Beware, Some guns in 100% condition are just barely saleable at any near book value. Other guns sell for many times the book value. Age and rareity dont necessary correlate to a premium price. Some brands like Colt, S&W, Ruger, Browning will command a higher price or be more saleable. Beware...dealers want to buy at 50% of the guns book value.
