As a parent (not a video gamer!) and trying to help my child w/ this DS game, I ran into a lot of problems. This book is user friendly and offers many suggestions to help in the enjoyment of the game. I would recommend getting this book even if you don't think you will have any problems. Because of the hints and side notes in this manual, we are enjoying our time together playing instead of being frustrated!

Most of the info in the book seems to be accurate. There are a couple spots in the game that I had to look some manuevers up online because the book either wasn't clear or omitted certain instructions. Again, for the most part the book is a lifesaver! :-)

I recieved The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for my DS lite on Christmas. After that, I searched for the matching Guidebook, since I like being 'complete' and guide books point out all the secrets & bonuses in a game that you'd probably never find otherwise. As a rule, I normally only purchase the Official Nintendo Power Strategy guides, but due to nintendo power's hiatus and changing the writers of nintendo power magazine, I soon found out that there was no official nintendo power guide for phantom hourglass .. and normally I don't like third party guides or third party merchandise. But since I needed a guide and this was basically the 'official' one, I bought it while I was in canada (it came to about CAD $27.) I have since beaten the game, with only 2 treasure maps and a bunch of ship parts to find. So, I bought prima's paper-back 'Premiere' Guide. (There was also the Hardcover guide which came with a bunch of stuff, but I liked this one more, plus, that one was more expensive.)

However .. there are a few gripes about this guide, even though it is well laid out, for the most part, well written, well designed, comes with a poster and a checklist, etc .. and those are:

a few spelling/grammar errors
some things aren't as clear as they could be
a checklist for the different kinds of fish would have been nice

Now, for a established company that produces game guides, I would expect them to at least proof read or spell check their guides before actually printing and selling them. It doesn't feel too great when you purchase something for this amount and the company didn't even take the time to spell check for any errors.

Other then that, the checklist was handy and the poster was nice. The guide is actually VERY thick and heavy, and it has a extensive part on battle mode.

Imo, Nintendo Guides are usually the best.

My 9-year-old grandson received the guide and the game for Christmas. He used the guide often and found it to be helpful and easy to use. It provides good definitions and directions. It helped him find treasure chest items that he otherwise would not have found. He found some information to be confusing, for example: at the end of the fire temple, it was hard to defeat the boss because the directions were not clear. In spite of this, he loved the guidebook.

Being a mature adult as opposed to young teen-ager, found this guide to be excellent. Is very thorough, lots of detail. Don't know how anyone could play this game without some help from the guide. Too many tricks, secrets to learn without some kind of help.

Phantom Hourglass is a huge game. It helps to have a little leg up every now and then and this is a pretty good guide to help with. Much like the Twilight Princess Guide produced by Prima, this thing is huge. Full of tons of information. But thankfully, it's a little better organized than the Twilight Princess guide and can be used with a lot less page flipping.

The guide begins with an introduction telling you a little about every Zelda game up until Phantom Hourglass. It's nice trivia and a bit of a catch up for anyone interested. It then jumps into all those basics. Getting you used to the controls and giving you some good gameplay tips. Then there's the items list which will point out all the items, how to use them and when you find them. Then it'll introduce you to the characters you'll meet along the adventure as well as showing you all the enemies and telling you how to deal with them. Each enemy also has a threat meter for you to see just how big a threat it is. It's really cool stuff. And very much appreciated.

The walkthrough is written almost exactly like the walkthrough in the Twilight Princess guide. Each chapter begins by outlining task for you to do. You can then look for each task in the walkthrough and read about how to perform it. In the corner of the guide there is also a heart meter to keep you updated on how many hearts you have. For example, when you get to the Temple of Courage you should have ten hearts. If you don't, you know you've missed something. It also shows you all the items you can obtain in an area as well as all the denizens. The walkthrough also shows you a bio for each new character as you meet them.

Much like the Twilight Princess walkthrough, it's the thickest part of the guide. Its got all the puzzle solutions and some good boss strategies. But as with the Twilight Princess guide, you really need to use it as you go. If you miss one heart piece, for example, it can be hard to figure out just where you missed it in the walkthrough. And as with a lot of Prima guides, the walkthrough is very text heavy. All the info is there, but you might be flipping around for a while to find it. Just the same, there's a lot of unnecessary text going on. It takes a while for the walkthrough to get to the point because it spends a lot of time detailing what is happening in the storyline rather than what to do next.

At the very least it has some easy to use maps. The sections for each area are also pretty big and the map is always at the beginning. So you'll probably end up having to flip back and forth from the main text to the map as well. At least you get the feeling everything is covered.

There is also a section dedicated to talking about multiplayer and this too is pretty big. After that we get to the legendary checklist that details just about every item and where every chest, heart piece, etc. can be located.

It is a pretty good guide overall, there's just a lot of page flipping to be done. At least it's much more organized than the Twilight Princess guide. If you need help with The Phantom Hourglass, then this is a good guide to use.

(Hide Review...)  Best Zelda Yet!

I have been a Zelda fan since the first one came out. They just keep on getting better! This one is terrific with really great graphics. I especially like using the stylus. At first, I was a bit leery of doing all the action with a stylus, but my aging fingers have found a strong ally. The stylus is far easier to use than all those buttons and doesn't take long at all to get use to. There are lots of hints in the game to help you use the stylus and it even gives you time to practice whenever a new action item is required. My only frustration with the game has been the timed sequences (in the Temple of the Ocean King), but I have managed to get through them so far. I bought this game as soon as it came out, and the only reasons I haven't finished it yet my other hobbies: reading mysteries, 'doing' eBay, and searching for dead people (genealogy). Zelda fans should be totally captivated with Phantom Hourglass.

When it comes to video games for the Nintendo DS, no title is hotter than The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The game has brought new fans all over for the Nintendo DS. Yet, with all the hype, Nintendo has recently decided to stop making strategy guides for some of their games, and instead leave it up to a third party. Prima, has made some very tough strategy guides that haven't really brought out the best in gameplay, and this is no acception. The maps here aren't as well-rendered as what Nintendo could've made, but the tips are very handy with the gameplay, especially during the side-quests, but overall it just could've been better. I hope Nintendo consides making one soon, because it could've been a lot easier for gamers to play.
