While a work of fiction, could possibly be used as a reality template for family survival. Follow the Gates brothers, families and neighbors to learn of their preparation for the pandemic.

Wings of Terror: The Bird Flu Pandemic
Nothing is duller than reading pages of figures and statistics. I have always, personally, felt that absorbing knowledge in "novel" form was a far easier way to understand concepts and possibilities. I think this novel exemplifies that. It gives the reader a real grasp of why people are so concerned about Bird Flu and is a gripping read at the same time. Looooove this book!! I could not put it down! The relationships between the characters is so well written and the story told so beautifully you can't help but be drawn in. This is a rare find that includes you as a character of the story experiencing every moment as if you were there. When it was over I clutched it to my chest like a dear friend, I only hope there is a second book.

While this is a work of fiction, and survivalist in nature, it's clear that the authors did their homework. They hit on many of the key issues regarding the potential threat of an Avian Flu Pandemic, including not only health and safety aspects but also internal political and ethical issues. Home remedies and conspiracy theories aside (readers will need to make their own judgments about those), the book does contain practical information about everything from different types of portable electric generators to little-known information about vehicles and household water pressure. Keeping in mind that this is a novel and perhaps a "worse than worst-case scenario," it is also insightful and thought provoking.
