While it's not necessary to read the other books in this series, I would recommend doing so. I always enjoy a visit to Cedar Cove.

I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber, even though her novels are very unlike most of the kind of books I enjoy. I have followed her "street" series from the beginning and this is a fine addition to it.

Debbie Macomber returns to the fictionalized setting of her own home town in this eighth book of the Cedar Cove series. Favorite characters are revisited and they are involved with everything from health problems to romantic troubles. Pastor Dave Flemming and his wife Emily are featured, but some of the subplots involving Judge Olivia Griffin, Rachel Pendergast, Sheriff Troy Davis, and Christie Levitt are actually more interesting. Several of the plots are left unresolved, as the book "Cedar Cove Christmas" came out just a month after this book, and fans are directed towards next September's entry in the series "92 Pacific Boulevard". This is an entertaining series which keeps up reader's interest by including stories about several Cedar Cove characters which occur simultaneously.

(Hide Review...)  Another good entry in a good series

It's almost Christmas in Cedar Cove and Pastor Dave Flemming has plenty on his mind - the Christmas pageant (with live animals!), sermons to write, sick parishioners to visit and more. He's a busy man, but his wife Emily suspects something else is going on and begins to think her beloved husband is up to no good. Other residents of Cedar Cove have their own issues to deal with. Sheriff Troy Davis is pining after long lost love Faith Beckwith; Christie Levitt is fighting her attraction to limo driver James Wilbur; and Olivia Lockhart Griffin is fighting breast cancer. As each of them and other residents of Cedar Cove deal with their problems, they realize how much family, friends, and neighbors mean to them.

"8 Sandpiper Way" is the eighth book in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series - a series that is a lot of fun to read. While the book definitely has a soap opera feel - complete with a large cast of characters - Dave and Emily's problems are very real and very timely in today's world. At times I wanted to yell at Dave for not confiding in Emily, but his keeping his problems to himself is also very real. Besides David and Emily's story line, there are several other story lines going on and the one that I like the most, more so in fact than Emily and Dave's, was the interaction between Christie and James (and Macomber drops a bombshell in this plot line). Chess player Bobby Polgar never seems quite real to me as a character but James his driver does.

If there is a fault in this entertaining series, it is that Macomber has too many characters in it. Because of this, some of the characters that featured prominently in past books in the series - for example Maryellen and Jon Bowman, the Cox family, and Justin and Seth Gunderson are either barely in the book or just mentioned in passing. This can be disappointing, especially since Macomber introduces some new characters - Shirley Bliss, her daughter Tanni, and Shaw Wilson. While I realize Macomber wants to keep the series fresh and Tanni and Shaw's story does end on a cliffhanger that helps set up the next book in the series, neither of them do much for me as characters.

"8 Sandpiper Way" is a nice cozy book to read. It's not terribly deep, but Macomber seems to have had a lot of fun writing it (I suspect her tongue was firmly in cheek more than once) and it is a lot of fun to read, especially during these cool autumn nights.

Another hit! Debbie Macomber has done it again. All of our favorite characters, with a few more additions. I gobbled this book up in just a few short sittings, how can you help it?

I won't go into all the details, but Emily is so sure her husband, Pastor Dave Flemming is having an affair. She finds a set of diamond earrings in his coat pocket, he comes home late sometimes and after making a phone call, Emily calls the number back and it is a woman! There are two teenagers in here, searching for who they are, and end up with a whole lot more. Troy broke it off with Faith, but Megan really seems to like Faith, who ran into her by accident when Faith started working at the doctor's office.

I can't WAIT to read the next installment, 92 Pacific Blvd. It will be a longgg year before it comes out!

I absolutely love Ms. Macomber's Cedar Cove series. She is an excellent writer. However, with this book, it didn't contain her usual depth of characters and there were way too many of them! It's like planning on enjoying a family Thanksgiving gathering and having all the extended relatives and neighbors show up!

It felt very rushed and the characters were just not fleshed out like in her other books. I also thought it very light on romance. I really did have to make myself finish it.

If this is your first Macomber book, please give her another try...she really is wonderful. If you are a faithful Cedar Cove wannabe like me...let's hope the next book centers on just a few main characters that we can once again bond with!

Bring back the Cedar Cove we know and love :)

(Hide Review...)  What a horrible book.

I don't know why I'm the first one giving this book a 1 star review, this book is terrible.

I work at a Walgreens. Recently we started making room for more books. The cover of this book didn't catch my attention but the summary on the back of the book did. It was so original and refreshing, and the plot sounded solid and interesting. Boy was I wrong!

I want to know why she is being praised as a good writer. He writing skills are that of facfiction qaulity. The characters are flat, I didn't feel a connection with any of them. They all just felt like they were thrown in there without any real personallities.

The story line was annoying. First of all, Debbie does a terrible job at explaining what the characters look like. Alot of times she didn't give any clues as to what the characters looked like. And then once I had my own mental image of what a character looked like, she would FINALLY tell you what the character looked like and it would be way off from my image, which was annoying and a beginners mistake.

Next, the way the plot developed sucked! Way too fast on alot of parts...no build up or anything, just BOOM it happened and then it went away just as fast.

The plot is predictedable.

I almost couldn't finish the book. It was that bad and that boring. The only people interested in this book are boring old people.

I only discovered this series back in May and luckily my mom had all 7 books so I caught up before the 8th one came out. I liked this book. I hate that it leaves you hanging for another year. I wish she could write two a year. I just love being in the Cedar Cove world. I wasn't real thrilled on introducing new characters, cause I like the old ones and I wasn't real interested in James and Christie, but all in all, this book was very good. I can't wait for the next one and I am pre ordering the Christmas one.

I love Debbie Macomber's books and always look forward to her next one being released. I am not sure if this one was rushed or what..but twice I put it down to start another book. That usually does not happen. The one word I thought about while reading it was "corny". I hated that I thought that.

I eagerly looked forward to this book and was rather disappointed in it. There wasn't any of the romance of the earlier works, it felt like a pass-thru to the next book. Nothing of consequence was solved within the book and the mystery surrounding the Pastor took waaaaaay to long to solve. I loved the other books, but this one??? I wanted more.

Cedar Cove has become a favorite city for thousands of readers like me who enjoy gossipy writing, small towns filled with good-spirited characters, and a little romance and drama to keep things interesting.

Debbie Macomber does not disappoint with this eighth installment set in the soap-opera like town. Emily and Dave Flemming take center stage in this novel as the local pastor keeps important information from his wife. With his much-later-than usual hours and the discovery of some diamond earrings in his jacket, Emily believes Dave is either an adulterer or a thief. Old friends Roy McAfee, the local private investigator, and Sheriff Troy Davis will get involved before this is all put to rest.

In the meantime, Sheriff Davis has some important personal challenges to face as he anguishes over lost love Faith Beckwith and grapples with his daughter Megan's health issues. Old friends like Olivia and Jack Griffin, Grace Harding, Teri Polgar, Christie Levitt, and Rachel Pendergast reappear and let the reader share what is happening in their lives. In addition, new characters like Tanni Bliss and her mom, fabric artist Shirley Bliss, appear and begin what will undoubtedly be the fodder of future sagas.

My only complaints with this installment are: first, my personal favorite, Mary Ellen Bowman, only got a brief mention; second, the mystery surrounding Pastor Flemming was one I figured out very early in the book (maybe I trust him more than his wife does) ; and lastly, I want another Cedar Cove book immediately. They are addictive! Fortunately, in just another month we will have a Cedar Cove Christmas, but must wait a full year to find out more about what will transpire at 92 Pacific Boulevard, the home of Troy Davis.

In Cedar Groove, Washington, Emily fears her husband Pastor Dave Flemming is having an affair. She is not sure who, but has found proof; Dave's jacket pocket contained another woman's earring and he comes home late at night, but will not tell her where he has been.

If he is not committing adultery, Emily fears he is grave robbing. He spent a lot time with a dying congregation member giving solace; after the person past away her relatives claim her jewelry was stolen. Dave had access to the woman's home and that damaging earring in his pocket. Emily prays to God for guidance to help her decide what to.

The latest Cedar Cove contemporary tale is an engaging story due to Emily's quandary as to what she should do. As always the support cast is solid and the audience receives updates on what is happening to the prime players from previous novels (see 74 SEASIDE AVENUE) and new neighbors are introduced (Like Sheriff Troy Davis' former love Faith Beckwith). Readers will enjoy the latest trek to Washington State as Emily wonders whether her moral kind husband has gone to the dark side.

I discovered this series a year ago, and was fortunate enough to read the first seven in rapid succession.

Unfortunately, 8 Sandpiper Way was a somewhat disappointing read for me. Although it is billed as Dave and Emily Fleming's story, they share center stage with three other storylines.

I enjoy catching up on characters from previous stories, but I feel Dave and Emily really got shortchanged in this one.

The eighth book of the quaint town of Cedar Cove once again proves Deb Macomber is the queen of contemporary romance. The secrets start early in her latest offering as Pastor Flemming's behavior becomes more and more surreptitious. Circumstances go from bad to worse when his wife, Emily discovers a woman's earring inside his jacket pocket. With dodgie answers and no valid excuse for his late-night rendezvous, Emily suspects he is having an affair. An affair in Cedar Cove? Ah, but the answers to her husbands late-night trists thickens when reports that a woman of the Pastor's congregation, who recently passed away, had her jewelry stolen. So what is Emily to do? Either her husband is an adulterer or he is stealing from the homes of the recently deceased. Much like all of Deb's books the sixth book is loaded with side plots and all the familiar characters. So just sit back and enjoy this wonderful little town.

Emily Flemming' believes that her husband, a Pastor named Dave, is keeping secrets from her. He has returned late from work many nights, without telling her where he's been, and when she finds another woman's earrings in his jacket pocket, she finally confronts him. Dave seems shocked that she thinks he could betray her, and she soon begins wondering if instead he has been stealing from the home of a dying congregation member, whose family claims her jewelry has been stolen. Emily's suspicions and questioning over what to do make for an engaging story, and her struggle to keep the family together makes her a highly sympathetic character. Add to this a couple of other interesting sideplots and many characters Macomber readers will recognize from previous Cedar Cove novels, and I'm sure Macomber fans will not be disappointed. Curl up in your favorite chair, pour yourself a glass of mint tea and enjoy a light, easy summer read!

I'd also like to recommend another two novels we've included on our staff pick shelves, which I believe Macomber fans will enjoy. The Beach House is a sweet novel about an older woman who finds her money dwindling, and chooses to rent out rooms in her summer home, drawing a circle of new friends around her. Quite a warm and cozy book! In addition, I'd recommend Promise the Moon, a beautiful novel about a Marine family, a woman who writes letters to her children from her dead husband, offering them the life lessons she thinks he'd like them to know. It's sadder, and in a sense darker than Macomber's books, but it's also funny as heck in spots, beautifully written with so many twists that it becomes a real page turner. You'll adore this book, especially if you loved Elizabeth Arnold's first novel.
