Microsoft® Office 2000 Simplified®

Do you get overwhelmed by computer user manuals loaded with technical jargon? Then Microsoft® Office 2000 Simplified® is the book for you. It skips the boring text and gets right to the point with colorful, detailed illustrations that make learning the Office 2000 basics simple and fun. The book features a two-page spread for each task, special sections that offer practical, time-saving advice, step-by-step instructions that are visually connected to the area on the screen where you're working, and a 3-D character who guides you through Office 2000 with simple, easy-to-understand explanations.
Do you absolutely hate computer how-to books? Do you find Complete Idiot's Guides or the Dummies style too wordy? Well, don't fret--you're probably a visual learner! If you'd rather see how something's done than read about it, try Microsoft Office 2000 Simplified on for size.

It contains everything you need to master the basics of the complete suite of Microsoft Office 2000 programs--Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Outlook--as well as how to use them productively on the Internet. Unlike practically every other guide, though, you'll find large headers and graphics-intensive spreads to help you pinpoint what you need and drag-and-click your way to success in half the time of those other books.

You won't learn much about the inner workings of Office, but the interface is set up so that you don't need to; as long as you know which buttons to press, you're in business. The visual style is so compelling that this would make a great adjunct to a more intensive or word-heavy text for training purposes or a simple quick reference for the busy worker. The eyes have it--Microsoft Office 2000 Simplified is a big help for the visually-oriented. --Rob Lightner

I have found the IDG Visual books the best for someone totally new to computers and teaching themselves. Easy to read and understand. You see exactly how it appears on your screen. BRAVO!

I often wondered why teaching Windows applications had to be so wordy. The entire idea of Windows is GUI. That is why Microsoft became the leader. That is why the whole world is now using computers. And yet, I see thousands of words printed to describe things that are graphical. GUI is the international language. If you want to study law, read thousands of words. If you want to study Office 2000, buy this wonderful book. What a beautiful surprise. Bravo!!... By the way, I know about technical braindumps. I am a Microsoft Cetified Systems Engineer.

The bold graphics and color on every page make this a book that draws you in and along. I just bought Office 2000 and decided it was time to brush up on my skills (and learn Outlook). I use Word every day but decided to read through that section for the finer points. It was fast and easy to skim through the stuff I knew and pick up tips (like three clicks highlights the whole paragraph). This would be an especially great book for someone just beginning with computers because a GOOD picture is worth a thousand words and this book has lots of GREAT pictures.

I felt this book was very inadequate for any real knowledge of Office. It gives simple explanations of the basics, but then what? I sent it back

I'm quite impressed and satisfied with this book and with the entire Simplified series. This book presents an excellent introduction to and overview of Microsoft Office 2000. It is very accessible to beginners and provides useful information for more experienced users. For visual learners (like myself), the illustrations are a great help. For additional information, there are individual books in this series on Word, Excel, and Access.

It's challenging to take a complex subject and express it simply, clearly, concisely, and comprehensively. This book meets the challenge.

Other books in the Simplified series are listed on Amazon.com under the author name Ruth Maran. A similar series (which I also enjoy very much) by the same author is the Teach Yourself Visually series.

For further study, I recommend Course Technology: the Shelly Cashman Series; the New Perspectives Series; and the Illustrated Series (I particularly like the Shelly Cashman Series). And, of course, there is Microsoft Press: I like the Step by Step Series and the Running Series.

These books are all available on Amazon.com.
