From one of the greatest rock guitarists of our era comes a memoir that redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll He was born in England but reared in L.A., surrounded by the leading artists of the day amidst the vibrant hotbed of music and culture that was the early seventies. Slash spent his adolescence on the streets of Hollywood, discovering drugs, drinking, rock music, and girls, all while achieving notable status as a BMX rider. But everything changed in his world the day he first held the beat-up one-string guitar his grandmother had discarded in a closet. The instrument became his voice and it triggered a lifelong passion that made everything else irrelevant. As soon as he could string chords and a solo together, Slash wanted to be in a band and sought out friends with similar interests. His closest friend, Steven Adler, proved to be a conspirator for the long haul. As hairmetal bands exploded onto the L.A. scene and topped the charts, Slash sought his niche and a band that suited his raw and gritty sensibility. He found salvation in the form of four young men of equal mind: Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, and Duff McKagan. Together they became Guns N' Roses, one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time. Dirty, volatile, and as authentic as the streets that weaned them, they fought their way to the top with groundbreaking albums such as the iconic Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I and II. Here, for the first time ever, Slash tells the tale that has yet to be told from the inside: how the band came together, how they wrote the music that defined an era, how they survived insane, never-ending tours, how they survived themselves, and, ultimately, how it all fell apart. This is a window onto the world of the notoriously private guitarist and a seat on the roller-coaster ride that was one of history's greatest rock 'n' roll machines, always on the edge of self-destruction, even at the pinnacle of its success. This is a candid recollection and reflection of Slash's friendships past and present, from easygoing Izzy to ever-steady Duff to wild-child Steven and complicated Axl. It is also an intensely personal account of struggle and triumph: as Guns N' Roses journeyed to the top, Slash battled his demons, escaping the overwhelming reality with women, heroin, coke, crack, vodka, and whatever else came along. He survived it all: lawsuits, rehab, riots, notoriety, debauchery, and destruction, and ultimately found his creative evolution. From Slash's Snakepit to his current band, the massively successful Velvet Revolver, Slash found an even keel by sticking to his guns. Slash is everything the man, the myth, the legend, inspires: it's funny, honest, inspiring, jaw-dropping . . . and, in a word, excessive. |

If you are a real die hard Guns fan you may enjoy this. If you are looking for the life of a rockstar and all the details of the life this is not the book for you. It repeats a lot of the same stories with little excitement. For those looking for an interesting look into the "fun" of being a rockstar check out The Dirt by Motley Crue or Tommyland. The Heroin Diaries is a must read.

For years people have viewed Slash as your typical burnout rock star. After finishing this brutally honest read you'll realize that underneath the top hat resides a human being who is sharp, humble, funny, honest and owns a surprisingly solid memory of his life and career. The man is able to tell his story in a very candid fashion without a hint of bragadacio or silly macho rock star posturing. An absolute must read whether you're a Guns fan or not.

This isn't one of your boring autobiographies. The book progresses from Slash's early childhood to his current status in life, and it's entertaining every step of the way. Slash shares moments of triumph as well as humiliating incidents, and tells us stories of many of the celebrities he's met over the years. He also answers the questions running through the minds of all Guns N Roses fans: What happened? Could it have been avoided? I'd recommend this book for any GNR fan. Damn near 500 pages, and not one was boring.

I enjoyed this book. He tells his story in a simple, honest, and humble manner. No boasting or bridge burning. He is obviously deeply disappointed with the demise of the original line up for GnR but he doesn't scream about it or come off as bitter and twisted. I believe what he has to say regarding the reasons for the breakup: Axl was an inconsiderate member of the band who is both unapologetic for his inconsideration and incapable of realizing how important it is to be considerate when interacting with other human beings.
Axl humiliated the entire band and organization by refusing to show up for gigs on time. There were innumerable times he did not take to the stage until HOURS after the band was scheduled and ready to go on. This did not happen once or twice or a few times here and there. It happened many times and Axl refused to apologize or even explain what the hell his reasoning was for keeping tens of thousands of fans waiting for him to show up and sing some rock n' roll. Slash does NOT slam Axl in this book. He merely lays out the simple and indisputable facts about Axl's arrogance, narcissism, greed, tyrannical inclinations, and his grossly un-brotherly & inconsiderate treatment of his fellow band mates. To his further credit, Slash praises Axl's talent as a lyricist, song writer, and lead vocalist. He conveys a sense of deep sorrow that the two of them could not remain friends or band mates. Read this book and you will no longer wish that the original GnR reunite. You will be glad that Axl has had so much difficulty with his version of the "new & improved" GnR. His thoroughly ill treatment of the original line up is enough to not only turn your stomach but put you off from ever looking again at any of those old GnR videos & concerts. You cannot watch them without seeing what an absolute piece of excrement that Axl Rose was towards his band and their audience. When this book was published, Scott Weiland was still part of Velvet Revolver. He has since left the band and one hopes with all of one's heart that Slash and the band ask Eric Dover to join them as lead vocalist. Eric doesn't have the same front man presence as Axl, but he sings a helluva lot better than him and you can bet he won't be refusing to go on stage on time. As for Slash's drug use: He talks about it in a refreshingly unrepentant manner. He does not come off moralistic or preachy. He does not look down his nose at anyone. His attitude is similar to that of Bill Hicks: He had a fun time in the debauchery and survived it and that's that. No apologies for having fun with crack, heroin, ecstasy, and OxyContin. None needed. He's been there, done that, and now he's a dad with two sons whom he adores and wants to raise in a healthy way. If you liked the original GnR as much as I did, then you must read this book. It is easy to read and Slash's voice and manner are on every page. He speaks without any pretentiousness and drives home the point that he loves being a road hog and a working musician and is not interested in being anything or anyone else. He loves himself, his family, his talent, his friends, and his life. He is a good egg with a good heart. The man deserves his success. Thanks for having the balls to write this , Slash. The current list of band bios about GnR are nauseatingly frivolous and unforgivably sensationalistic. They do not enlighten the reader; they merely obscure the truth with rumours and misspoken anecdotes. This book was fun to read! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-03 00:17:48 EST)

Let me start by saying I am a huge Slash/GnR fan. I loved Slash's stories behind all the GnR songs and his take on Axl being Axl and the last band tours. My beef is with the editing and fact checking. I am shocked by how much of it is wrong! Just small examples like Slash and Renee being married at the Four Seasons in Marina Del Rey (it's a Ritz) and getting Fred Coury's name wrong (it is mentioned at least 1/2 dozen times as Curry). There are several other wrong or inconsistent details, enough for it to distract me and wonder what else was incorrect in this book. Again, that being said, I did enjoy the book would recommend it. I just wish the publishers would take the time to put out a better quality book. Nikki Sixx's book was really so much better quality even though it is a totally different style.

Finally got aroudn to ordering and reading this book, and I am certainly glad I did. Being a big GNR fan, I've always wanted to know what the band was really like and why they fell apart so quickly. Until Axl writes his own book, this book will be the best one about Guns N' Roses and their rise & fall. Slash decribes his upbringing, first learning to playing a guitar, and how GNR came to be in fluid detail. The making of AfD also is described with the source of every song.

Slash tells his story from his funny and adventurous childhood through his Guns N Roses days to his present work with Velvet Revolver. There have been many unofficial biographies of Slash and other GNR-related books, but finally we have something from the man himself.
Besides, Slash is a really smart guy, so this is not just another average rock book. It's a captivating story. His style is honest and easy to read, his comments and conclusions are backed up by nice rare pictures. The guy sure has great sense of humor, too! It's one of the best books I've read this year. The top-hatted guitar hero has become a legend, played with many other rock legends and experienced the evolution of rock music from the 80s until present day. He's been there, done that and has a lot to tell about life and the music business. Here's our chance to hear it straight from the source. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-14 00:19:58 EST)

Excellant book! great to hear the GnR (plus more) stories through the eyes of someone who was there. Very objective and a great read. I am a HUGE GnR fan so this was top priority for me to read as soon as it came out and i was not disappointed. Slash creates and easy to read memoir, but does not speak negatively about any experiences, which is awesome.

It always amazes me how guitar players can produce such incredible music and keep perfect time with a band while playing very fast 16th notes and hitting every fret and every string with precision and accuracy. Add booze and Heroin to the equation and I wonder why it is I can't even learn Jingle Bells on the guitar (and I'm sober). This is not to say that the most admirable part of Slash is that he created such recognizable guitar riffs and solos while drunk or high. The music he's capable of producing is, in itself, reason to want to know more about Slash. If you were born in late 60's, early 70's, owned the first few Guns n' Roses cassettes, then purchased the entire library again on CD, and actually purchased a guitar because you wanted to learn "Sweet Child O' Mine", then this book is a journey back to your childhood / teenage years; which may be one reason for its success so far. Yeah, sure, the book talks a lot about drug abuse and other vices that are considered bad behavior but they are mentioned each with their own consequences. As I read the book I didn't feel the use of Heroin use was condoned. The reasons for its use, its addictive and harmful attributes, and its detrimental effect on Slash and the band are talked about in nearly every chapter but I certainly didn't set the book down wishing I could score some smack. In fact, as I read this book, I simply remembered what I liked about Slash to begin with; his ability to play the guitar. I found myself playing some of my old G n'R CDs and looking for copies of Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver at my local music store. It was a fun read. I enjoyed it so much that I was sort of bummed out when I read the last page - I wanted more.

Well done Slash. This book was hard to put down. Any rock fan would surely be engaged from start to finish by this insightful look into the passion, turmoil, successes and failures from one of rock's most influential bands of the 80's. Not only a great biography of Slash's life but a brilliant account of life behind the scenes of the monsterously successful band Guns n Roses. It answers many questions for the G n R fans and yet helps readers vividly see what experiences, temptations and highs/lows slash encountered before, during and after G n R as well as his life in the bands Velvet Revolver and Slash's Snakepit. This book is long but worth the read. Slash takes you from his early childhood to 2007 via many, many colorful, hilarious, crazy, desolate, debaucherous Rock Star stories throughout his life. I don't remember a dull page. Slash eventually explains why Guns and Roses broke up with seemingly little bitterness, but does not dwell on this chapter of his life for very long. He surprisingly, numurous times defends Axl, but utimately tells what happened with one of the biggest bands in rock. Wheather you are a Gun's & Roses fan, a guitar player, or just a fan of rock you should enjoy this book.

This is a pretty good bio. I think slash found a good co-writer who helped him structure this book near perfectly. The story-writing is pretty damn good, the center has some great photos and each chapter opens with a nice photo. The only repetitive aspect 'me and Duff fought again and I started heroin again' got a little stale but I guess its the truth so had to be put done that way.

After reading this autobiography by Slash I came away with a few things. The first thing worth mentioning is that this book was written from the heart. It is brutally honest and holds nothing back. How do I know he is being honest? Well, Slash doesn't necessarily paint a pretty picture of himself here and the whole time you're reading it you feel as if he is there talking to you. He comes across as a flawed but sensitive human being and you will walk away with a better liking for the man, if not his music.
Secondly, I have to respect a guy that never says a bad word about his ex-bandmates..notably Axl Rose. He pretty much says (and I paraphrase) 'Yeah, Axl did some dumb things, but you have to understand him to know just where he is coming from.' Instead of taking hacks at his former colleague, he shows empathy towards him but never makes any excuses for his, at times, radical behavior. The last thing that I thoroughly enjoyed about reading this book is how Slash takes you inside the recording studio, explains how some of their songs were written and how they tried to catch that 'lightning in the bottle' sound that was "Appetite" but were never able to do so again. Slash lets it all hang out, warts and all and seeing his flaws as he presents them honestly and intimately makes you feel as if you know him. The one thing that I'm dissapointed in is that Velvet Revolver has broken up, not that I was a fan, but at the end of the book Slash had seemed to have found the peace within himself and newfound focus with a true band again. I saw Slash recently on a rerun of Conan O'Brien when this book came out and he mentioned to Conan that he still sends Axl Christmas cards. How can you not be touched by that? Highly recommended to fans of Slash or those simply interested in the life of a decadent, but likeable rock and roll star. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-01 00:23:45 EST)

Hard Rock guitartist Slash of Guns N' Roses,
Slash's Snakepit, Velvet Revolver bares all in here but from Cheap Trick fans perspective no juicy tid bits about Rick, Robin, Bun E. or TP. And no pics of 'Trick either. But plenty about them and their influence on this very good guitarist. Mostly, it's autobigraphical and sur- vivalist in it's literary nature. Two and a half stars for entertainment value alone. An absolutely frank behind-the-scenes look into the life of the guitarist of one of the most notorious bands in rock and roll. Nothing is held back and there is very little of the bitterness or back-biting that often shows up in memoirs written after an acrimonious break up.

I am not a fan. I don't even like the music, but I bought this because it was a nonfiction and high on the best sellers list. Yes, I read them all.
If you like biographies, this is a great one. The writing is extraordinary. It flows beautifully. Helped by a very interesting story, this book is one of the best I've read. You don't have to be a fan to be addicted to this book. I find myself lying to my wife telling her that I have business meetings, but really I'm going to the Tim Horton's coffee shop and devouring this book. I think this is the first biography (auto, bio, ghost, or otherwise) that I have ever read, AND ENJOYED. This is an interesting story of Slash's life- and I believe that it was written from the heart. Don't expect it to be dry, humorless, and technical; because it isn't. It is funny, unbelievable, and outrageous! But this book gave me a whole new perspective on Slash as a person; it made him feel more human to me and less "untouchable rock star". It sounds as if this book was something that Slash needed to do, and that he feels better for doing it. I know I feel better for reading it! My overall feeling after reading this book was, "it's good to know that Slash has finally made it home."

When I first saw the video for "Paradise City" by GnR, I was drawn to Slash because he had that cool top hat, and seemed to be the guy that didn't talk much; just came saw, and rocked. I was happy to read this book 20 years after Appetite came out; the book gives Slash the opportunity to say who he truly is.
Slash was revealed to be a different person than I thought; very open, confident, and sociable. Most guitarists I have known in my time as a musician are brash onstage but basically introverted nerds on their downtime: Slash is just the real deal. I enjoyed his unapologetic accounts and self-effacing humor. I was very happy concerning Slash making no big deal about his upbringing; having parents from different cultural and racial backgrounds, and identifying perfectly with both. It is what he is, and what makes him so vibrant. The only critique I found with the book besides some spelling and grammatical problems (shame, editor!), was the GnR / Axl problem that Slash seemed to feel he needed to explain to the readers several times: I never understood why people make such a big deal about bands breaking up, and when they'll get back together; as a musician myself, I accept that personality clashes will occur, and that people will grow and need their distance from each other, regardless of the scale of the band's success. I feel that Slash wrote a lot of his feelings as if to have closure for himself, but he wound up sounding more frustrated if anything. He didn't have to explain at all. All in all, a wonderful read, and a MUST for music fans wanting to learn about a modern icon, and who can't afford the guitars coming out next Tuesday! LOL! Now I've read a lot of books in my time, but none like Slash. Now slash has been my idol since i was a kid, but after reading this book i had the utmost respect for him. Sure, he made some mistakes with drugs, sex and behavior but he made it through all that. He got clean, stopped halucinating and made some great song on the way. I recommend this to any one who wants a REAL story about sex, drugs, and rock n' roll and learn about the greatest rock n' roll machine of all time.

I was very surprised by the quality of this book. I have always been a Guns N Roses fan, but, I must say, mostly an Axl Rose fan. This was a very informative review on the life of Slash and the life of GNR. I feel he portrayed things in a very mature and objective mannor. Yes, there were troubles with the band, however, as other authors have, he did not at all use this media as a way to vent and blame all others for his problems. This is definately a must have for the Guns and Roses fan and cannot imagin there would be a better book on the band.

A must read of GNR fans/rock @ roll fans. This book takes you into the life and world of Slash during his GNR days. After reading the book I had a understanding what it would be like playing in one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

This book goes deep inside the Guns and Roses story from Slash's point of view. One of the best book's I have read in a long time.

Growing up in the 80's and still being a big fan of 80's hair metal this was a must read. There was some funny stuff but also the debauchery was more than I really expected. How he is even alive today is completely a mystery. This was a great book though. It started a smidge slow getting into his childhood but after that it picks up.

I was pleasantly surprised by this biography, well told and written. Brings the rock star down to earth.

I've always been a big fan of Slash and as a guitar player myself, admire the phrasing and "feel" that he has on the guitar. This is a wonderful book and gave a reasonably clear picture of the rock scene back then. The only hitch I have against it is that every so often in the book, Slash uses the line "We'll get to that in just a bit......" or "We'll approach this subject later in the book......." but doesn't seem to talk about the said subject again in the book. Pretty annoying. Apart from that though, it was a good buy. A must-have for Slash fans out there in my opinion.

As a 21 year old music fanatic, I've just recently become infatuated with GN'R, and especially Slash. (I was only a year old when Appetite for Destruction was released.) I found this book to be really entertaining, and though it's 480 pages long, I read it relatively quickly and was sad to reach the end. It was really interesting to find out about Slash's background, his personal life, what exactly happened with GN'R, and Velvet Revolver. I've read through a couple of the other reviews, and it's weird that some people are complaining that this book sounds like it wasn't written by Slash because it uses bigger words at times, while others say that it seems like it was written by a high schooler. (Just a bit contradictory!) I've watched and heard a ton of interviews with Slash, and I don't find it too hard to imagine that he wrote most of this. Besides, when most people sit down to write a book, or even a paper, they don't write exactly the way they normally speak. I don't understand why it's a big deal. I don't think any of it takes away from the content. People seem quick to call him an idiot who can't string together a sentence, but from what I've seen, he's just as capable of speaking coherently as anyone else. I think some people may have had preconceived notions about the book and some kind of bitterness toward him before they even started reading it. The other thing is that people complain that all rockstars' lives sound the same - drug usage, alcohol, sex, etc. To that I say, if you're sick of reading stories about those things, don't read anymore rockstar (auto)biographies. What did you expect? Personally, I find all of those stories highly amusing because his life is the opposite of mine, and at one time or another, we all fantasize about being a rockstar. This book is just fun, and I don't think people should be so critical about the little things. I'm sure Slash didn't intend this book to be a piece of high art, but rather to tell his story and to answer all of the questions that people have been asking him for years.
One last thing... The pictures in this book are also very cool, and there are pages of color photos in the middle of the book. Also, if you're really into the music, the way he describes how certain songs were made will make you want to listen to them over again with attention to details you might have not heard before! I truly enjoyed the stories in this book. After all, I was never into music much as a kid, and GnR's "Welcome to the Jungle" sort of broke the ice with me. Since then, I've been not only a music fan, but a musician and an 80's rock fanatic.
To read the stories presented in this book (even though I believe there's more of the writer than Slash in those words) really filled in some gaps in the knowledge I had about GnR. A lot of stuff I wasn't aware of went on (obviously), and it was very entertaining to read about all of their adventures. What I didn't enjoy was the skipping of page numbers, the missing sentences, and the bad grammar. There were also lots of tense problems, and in one section when Slash talked about playing with Cinderella's Fred Curry...well, it's Fred Coury. How's about a little fact checking? From a book put out by this publisher, I expected more. Seems to be the case these days...more and more books are coming out with spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and a general lack of fact checking. If you can get past the problems, this is a great read. Can't wait to see Slash on tour next time! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-24 07:49:45 EST)

Slash is a self indulgent, emotionally immature junkie who cannot maintain personal relationships for more than a few months at a time. He is the type of junkie that readily blames everybody and stress for his habits while he winks at you and confesses to your face that he is indeed a drug fiend, alcoholic. He is the kind of person who asks us to judge his heart rather than his actions because he really does mean well, which is the narcissistic view of the whole of life.
I understand why Axl had problems with Slash but even so, it was a pretty interesting read... (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-22 22:54:49 EST)

After reading the Heroin Diaries I felt it was well written and full of off the wall stories that non-rock stars would find amusing, therefore I decided to read Slash's tale of stardom as well. I don't feel Anthony Bozza did this tale any justice, the writing style was more like something a high school student would turn out and is filled with the overuse of the phrase "All things considered". This is basically just the same old rockstar cliche, kid grew up on the street, gets a band started, turns into a junky, gets clean, falls off the wagon several times, then writes a book about it. I wouldn't recommend this book, not even the most dedicated GNR fan will find it all that interesting.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this book - maybe a few good rock and roll tales and a handful of controversial quotes about Axl. This book exceeded my expectations.
Slash does a great job bringing the reader into his world and writes with honesty and attention to details. I enjoyed his stories about growing up as much as his stories about the GNR world tours. The best part was that he didn't shy away from the less than flattering aspects of his life. It didn't have the "look how great I am" feel that many other books in this genre have. I think all fans of music will enjoy this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-17 12:19:39 EST)

Great book if you're a huge Slash fan. If your not a big fan the book will be a slow read. It just meanders around watching Slash as a punk thief and druggie until you run into present day and it ends. It could also be titled "Life and Times of a Junkie Thief" because I learned more about drugs than GnR. I thought Slash was a bit too polite when referring to others in the business, including Axl Rose. I've heard complaints that the writer didn't use Slash's voice but used his own. This is true, but it's actually a good thing. If Slash was writing, well, Slash probably can't write; if he were using Slash's voice it would simply be a run on of incoherent drivel. The guy has been very, very, lucky. He has been lucky enough to be a total loser and still make a living doing what he loves. It helps when your neighbor is David Giffen and your mom dates David Bowie -even though Slash says this was coincidence. Whatever. What Slash does is play guitar. Slash has been propped up with a guitar for years, he's not known for his intellect. He's almost more image than musician. It's not 'The Dirt' but for fans it's a interesting story.

I swear every rock star lives the same life. Same, but always interesting. Reading about Axl's moods and personality was the best part of the book. I would get a little bored when he goes into so much detail on writing certain songs, maybe because I'm not a musician. His youth just before being discovered was good read.

Well done on the book and having it published and obviously selling well. I am an author myself but these days only have the time to peruse the gossip trash (obselete) at the Doctors surgery. As soon as I saw "Slash" I just had to purchase it. At times I found the book hard to put down, some days whilst the stock market was falling around it me it was an escape into another world, and on other days I found the book to be one heck of a struggle.
What surprised me was the depth of your thinking, and how artistic you came across in the early chapters. The way you thanked your parents at the end and acknowledged your children showed not only a compassionate side but how intelligent and creative people can fall by the wayside when it comes to substance abuse. I joked with workmates early in the piece that the way heroin was described, I was considering taking it up to assist in the creative process. I certainly hope that those in possession of the book take it right to the end because you almost made the lure of drugs a very attractive one. Anything chemical or stronger than a joint in my earlier years scares the hell out of me, so now even the stilnox post Heath Ledgers tragic death are off the agenda. The drug scene is a very sad one (I spent eight years as a cop and have seen it all)and what detracts from your book in some respects is the repetitive nature of the drug discussion. Best in life to get educated, get a good job and try not to become famous. Too many highs and lows tied up with fame as when it all ends you see all these washed up bands going on their "superannuation tours". I think these are 411's in the US or we can use the phrase, "To fund their retirement because they blew all their money on drugs, alcohol, fast cars and probably multiple divorces. Although it improved out of sight towards the end the other interesting asepct was your earlier treatment of women. I guess when your life is excessive they are throwing themselves at you. Must be an empty feeling (no pun intended) when it becomes boring and you are looking for more out of life than continual sure things. Would be like me having access to next years share prices and thinking that I am Mr Wonderful because I had bucketloads of money. Sure if you are aesthetically challenged and famous you can still have it all, but sadly the women normally end up with a multi-million dollar divorce settlement because you couldn't control your sexual urges. Your amazing guitar talent is undersold in the book. I know you came up with the Sweet Child O'Mine intro riff but I though you could have gone into more depth as to how. When you look at the lists of greatest all-time riffs it is up there on most of them. This is why so many people purchase your records, Gibson Les Pauls and try for hours to imitate your sound. Instead of doing drugs with my spare money I took a risk and bought a handful of those Robot Guitars just after they were released. If you picked one up and the papparazi caught you, I am guessing that each of my children would be guaranteed a decent deposit on a house. You seem to like the more traditional Les Pauls anyway (sunbursts), and it would be quite rude of me to ask you to endorse them to line my own pockets. There were a couple of errors in the book that I derived some humour from. Having Sydney spelt incorrectly was one, and also where you doubled up on going with RCA. I see others have already pointed some other annoying tidbits so best to leave them alone here. From the book it is apparent that you are very passionate and professional and did well to tolerate AXL for so many years. I could feel my own frustration at some of his antics that defied belief. It is quite clear that you respect him even though some may feel you held back in order to save on a potential lawsuit. Real shame that Adler blew it, I went back and listened to Appetite and agree that his drumming and Izzie's guitars gave that album some real grunt. So you are an articulate person, a brilliant guitarist, a very proud Father and someone who has survived a life that could be midly put as being tumultuous. Probably your best crime was stealing that Top Hat because it made you stand out, gave you a gimmick because lets face it the world is full of great musical people just looking to nail that one song that takes them to the mainstream and the trappings that follow.Don't let this take away from the fact that you are one of the great modern guitars rock gods because quite clearly we need more people like you. (Those Robot guitars sure are pretty Slash) You are obviously not totally driven by money and this is one thing I will take away from spending the time ploughing through what was a very enlightening book that deserves to be read by an alphabet of generations. The Velvet Revolver side hopefully will provide more highlights but you will always be remembered for that one riff that just refuses to age. Stay focussed, stay clean, and congratulations again on a fantastic book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-14 17:54:49 EST)
