If you own a 240 Volvo and even if you don't do much of the work on it yourself, this manual is a must have. Complete and clear with very few errors, this will tell you more about your 240 and how to fix it than anything you can buy for under $50. The factory books may well be better but this is relatively inexpensive and will pay for itself with the first moderate repair. Don't waste your money on Chilton's junk ... this is the repair manaual you will want if you own and love a 240 "Brick". It is the best 240 repair manual I have used in 25 years of Volvo ownership. I've used it for everyhting from simple repairs like brake pads to replacing an automatic transmission. I have saved literally tens of thousands of dollars fixing my Bricks using this great manual! Also make sure you check out the Brickboard.com online for great advice from the national Volvo loving community. With this manual and the Brickboard advice you can literally fix anything on your 240 Volvo.

If you own a Volvo 200 series, get this book. It's a much better reference than the cheaper books you'll find in your local auto parts store.

Bentley manuals are by far the best when it comes to back yard mechanic manuals. Coupled with[...] the average mechanic can fix almost anything. I highly recommend this manual if you own a 240 and enjoy working on your vehicles.

This seems to be an excellent repair manual. I have the Volvo shop manuals and still couldn't fine the intermittent wiper relay. With this book, I was able to find it within minutes. The repair sections have the appropriate torque specifications. This is a nice feature.

There are lots of really crummy aftermarket shop manuals out there, but this isn't one of them! Excellent illustations and descriptions. Fairly comprehensive. Much better than the other two well known aftermarket brand repair manual and well worth the extra bucks.

This is a good shop manual if you know where the problem is. It's well illustrated, easy to follow, and fairly easy to navigate. The Index could be better (i.e. if you don't know where or what your flame trap is, you won't know to look for it under Emission Controls, subheading Positive Crankcase Ventilation). Between this book and the Haynes manual (which has a helpful troubleshooting section) you'll have enough information to fix your old volvo.

Short of the actual shop manual, this is the best brick book. Very clear illustrations & explanations helped me change the tranny mounts and rear main seal. Not fun, but it's done!

Great for the nubie, excellent for the seasoned home mechanic, used by the pros.

Bently is a thoroughly comprehensive manual with adequate illustrations. Highly recommend the Bently manual covering the Volvo 240. It was instrumental in my timing belt job.

The Volvo 240 Service Manual by Bentley Robert has been extremely informative to us. We purchased a fixer-upper car for our teenager and that book has helped him troubleshoot many problems the car had. The operative word being "had". It is well-written and in many cases more informative than other Volvo manuals.

I have been working on my vehicles since 1968 as a teenager. I have owned six or eight different service manuals for various different cars and motorcycles in that time. Some have been excellent (1972 VW Type II shop manual) and others had just enough information in them to change a light bulb or get you into trouble (Chilton Volvo 1993 960). I also have the 1983 Chevy shop manual for the Blazer which is an automotive tome if I ever saw one.

I just bought the Bentley 240 manual and while it is not as detailed as the Volvo shop manual (which is actually a series of books, each covering one specific system), for the cost it is an excellent investment for anyone working on their own car. It is well laid out and fairly easy to find what you need.

I also have the Haynes 240 manual (Haynes 97020- available for as little as $19 shipped if you shop around). it makes an excellent companion to the Bentley, but if I had to recommend one over the other, the Bentley is the one to get.

I rated it as 4 stars becasue it is not as complete as the factory information, but for the home mechanic, it is a 5!

The Volvo 240 Service Manual covering Volvos from 1983 to 1993 can be recommended without much reservation. The book is loaded with detailed information, illustrations and technical tips. To use this manual to repair your old 240 is both interesting and economically rewarding.

Seems to cover just about everything. I would recommended getting the Haynes repair manual as well for other fixing smaller items like the seat belts which this book does not cover

This is the third Bentley service manual I've purchased within this year and I am happy with this one.
The information can be used with volvo 740 and 940(The same engine and transmissions are used) My only complain is that the book does not cover AW70/71 transmission in detail.

Well of course first you have to spent some money to get the book, but that is soon forgotten as you start reading it and using it's content to take care of your car.(In casu a '92 245 2.3 POLAR).

This book is great - I have an 85 and a 93, and I learned much just sitting with it and reading. I will be much better prepared for whatever I need to do. It is well laid out, and the illustrations are very informative.
