“The Lives of the Twelve Caesars” was written around 100 AD just after one of the most turbulent times in ancient history when Rome had been undergoing a number of Civil wars. Recorded by Suetonius who was an eye witness to the later conflicts and infighting. This unique work has been used as the basis for a number of films and television series including “Gladiator”, “Rome”, "Spartacus" and “I Claudius”
