The original Hermetica is 17 books - a Greek translation from the Egyptian language. This rare treasure by Timonthy Freke and Peter Gandy brings you the best of the best in this 5000 year old ancient classic. Also starting with podcast #103, SuperWisdom.com Foundation hosts a podcast series centered on this book. My co-host and I are deeply touched by the profound and inspiring wisdom in this little book, and the highly readable way it is presented. The reader below who gave this a one star is way, way off base. Such treasures as this belong in the library of every serious spiritual seeker.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
This is a chipped chopped and sloppy version if the Hermetica. I suggest to those interested Hermetica: The Greek Corpus Hermeticum by Brian P. Copenhaver from Cambridge Univ. Press ISBN-10: 0521425433 ISBN-13: 978-0521425438 this is the best and most recent eddition. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-14 06:57:57 EST)

Everyone interested in the history of religions, or anyone on the path of self unfoldment, will find the Hermetic literature a treasure. Throughout history these writings have sparked genius and renaissance. This book gives a brief historical introduction and some simplified interpretations.
All readers would benefit by having a more accurate translation on hand. Comparing passages of different translations is always a good approach when studying works of genius that took form in foreign languages, especially dead languages. There is a place for such popularizations of holy texts, for example numerous wonderful translations of Rumi that betray the context of the original work yet convey some of the beauty and wisdom. The Hermetica: Lost Wisdom of the Pharoahs makes accessible to any reader a form of wisdom that, as Leon Marvell has pointed out in his monograph Transfigured Light, in many ways provided and provides the theoretic foundation of our modern world. More serious students of the Hermetic will find nothing new here, but some may find these simple poetic expressions of Hermetic wisdom inspiring none the less. Those who tend to disparage the value of this book are doing a disservice to those of us who want to know more about hermeticism and the hermetic tradition and are new comers to this area. Mr. Freke in his introduction clearly states how influential these writings have been. Yes this was written in late antiquity but it incorporates many teachings that would have come from the Mind of Thoth. This book serves as an ideal introductory book for furthur explorations into the hermetic tradition.
