I bought this book for my homeschooled thirteen-year-old as we studied ancient Egypt. My son has always hated to read. In the middle of this book, he looked up at me and said, "I always hated reading, but now I like it!" The story was full of details and vocabulary words that he was able to remember for his final test! I would highly recommend this book for any kids studying ancient Egypt, or just for fun!

my 12 year old was assigned to read this book and he loved it. I was a great read for him and a book he loved letting me about. Plus, he passed on the book to me and said that I would love it.

When we first started reading this book during our homeschool unit on Ancient Egypt, my kids seemed disinterested. They are both girls, and this was a book about a boy. How boring! But before they knew it, they were asking me to read on, beyond the chapter a day we were supposed to read. The suspense was too much for them, and they wanted to find out what would happen next. I'm glad I didn't give up too early on this wonderful book!

The Golden Goblet is about a boy, Ranofer, who is poor and has no food to eat. He worked at the goldsmith shop, but was not lucky enough to be an apprentice to Rekh the Goldsmith, because Gebu (Ranofer's half brother) thought that being a goldsmith had no skills. One day when Ranofer came home, Gebu told him that he has to work for the stonecutters. Ranofer was so mad he couldn't even say goodbye by to Rekh. This book takes you through different adventures with Ranofer. I liked this book because the characters in the book where described so well and the storytelling was described magnificently. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy mysteries and intense moments. They should also be aware that the book is a little slow to get into in the beginning, but once you start to see the plot develop you will not be able to put it down.

The Golden Goblet is about an Egyptian boy named Ranofer. After hid father, Thutra dies he has to live with his child-abusing half brother Gebu. Gebu always beat him up for no reason and feed Ranofer very little. Ranofer's dream was to be a Master Goldsmith, but Gebu messes it up when he makes Ranofer a Stonecutter. Soon Ranofer suspects Gebu is stealing. So, his friends, Heqet and the Ancient start spying on Gebu. But If you want to knows what happens then read Golden Goblet! If start getting bored between Chapter 1 through 2, then keep going because in Chapter 3 things start to get a little exciting. But if you are still bored then have fun burning the book.

Will Ranofer and his friends prove to everyone that Gebu is the thief? To find out if he suceeds or not, read this exciting, adventerous book.
The Golden Goblet has many problems, but the main problem is that Ranofer wants to be free from his half-brother, Gebu, and accomplish his dream to become a master goldsmith. But the only way to be free from Gebu, is if Ranofer and his friends proves Gebu guilty for stealing the gold.
Our group thought this book was overall great, but, some places were a little confusing. Our group liked the morals from the book. One of the morals were to dream big and even though things or people are holding you down, never give up. We recommend this book to everyone who likes historical fiction with a good moral.

In the book The Golden Goblet, the main character, Ranofer is stuck living with his half-brother Gebu when his father Thutra dies. Ranofer is constantly beaten and abused by Gebu and must stay living in his house where at least he can have shelter and food.
Ranofer desperately wants to be a goldsmith as his father was but the closest Gebu will allow Ranofer to become a goldsmith is to be a porter in a lower goldsmith's shop. Never the less, good comes from the job. Ranofer becomes friends with an apprentice at the shop, Heqet and the Ancient One, a wise elderly man.
Suddenly, Gebu starts leaving the house during the night and Ranofer becomes curious, so he ventures into Gebu's room. There he finds a magnificent golden goblet and also finds that it was from a tomb of an ancient conqueror. Gebu was a tomb robber! The problem now is what is Ranofer is going to do about Gebu and the golden goblet?
The Golden Goblet is a good book for anyone who likes a good read and also enjoys great descriptions. It does not tell you everything though so some of the questions you're going to have to answer yourself.

This book is a thrilling mystery book that takes place in Ancient Egypt. Readers can learn how Ancient Egypt life was like and what they ate and wore.
In the beginning of the book it started off with a slow pace, but as we read on, the suspense built up and the book bacame more exciting with each chapter. We would recomend this book to anyone who likes mysteries and want to learn about Ancient Egypt.

scary book, weird things will come out of your closet if you read this book. It is so dull it made me scream. The main caracter ronofer is an anorexic boy who likes to tell u all his problems. His brother beats him up and he only has 2 friends who happen to both be speacial. 1 cant talk. If you want a depresing book u got it.it will make your hart crush. tears.

well, i am forced to read this for school (6th grade) and the beginnig was horrible and boring! but now, i am literally almost finished and it is now exciting. the book is o.k. but not great. i would definatley not pick this book to read in my own time, i just have to if i want a good grade... so ya.

This book was ok . Its sad because Gebu beats Ranofer but the ending stunk.

Positive elements:
Ranofer has a good head. he can usually decide what is best and takes advice (though not so readily) from those who are wiser and have more experience than him. though he has a bad attitude at first, by the third to fourth chapter it is made clear as to why this is so. with great ambitions, Ronofer is able to take advice to make himself ready to carry out those ambitions.
Violent content:
Ronofer's half brother is cruel to him, and beats him a few times. Ranofer is short-tempered when he meets another boy at the goldsmiths.
Spiritual content:
Ranofer, being an ancient Egyptian, beleives in and worships many gods. he beleives bone-chilling myths such as ghosts will carry away children who wander outside at night, that his father's spirit visits him, and that the dead king and queen are alive in their tomb. he prays to multiple gods, asking for the things he wishes to accomplish.
Conclusion:
What makes a book worthwhile? it is the ending. this story's ending is very fulfilling, leaving the reader as satisfied as can be, and ends with Ranofer looking forward to his dreams, now that he has removed all his barriers.

The Golden Goblet was a great way to read about friendship and trust. Ranofer became friends Heqet, an apprentice at the gold master's shop, and The Ancient, a simple peddlar, and his donkey, Lotus. He relies on his friends to solve the story's mystery, and he relies on his own courage and strength to endure his hardships. A wonderful book!

Had to read this book as a assignment for school, i picked the longest one for an odd reason and ended up dreading it. Just looking at the cover made chills go up my spine at how horribly bad it truly is. Would give this star negative 100000000000000000000 stars if possible but the least available is one. Horrible book about Ancient Egypy, boring plot, boring characters, over all a horrible book. Really cannot believe that some people gave this book 5 stars.

Out of curiosity he asks one of his only friends, The Ancient how tomb robbers are caught. On the day of the festival for `The Rising of the Nile', he follows Gebu and his cohort to The Valley of Tombs. After being discovered he manages to escape and alert the Queen where upon he is then rewarded with what he had always wanted.

If I could, I would rate this book with zero stars because it was really boring and had no excitement at all. It wasn't even funny and Eloise Jarvis McGraw must have been insane if she thought that kids would actually waste their time to read it. I was forced to read this in sixth grade (i'm in sixth grade now) because we were studying ancient Egypt earlier. It was very dull and I actually finished it! I was so suprised. It's about this boy, Ranofer living in Ancient Egypt and his older half brother, Gebu who is stealing gold and Ranofer is trying to get him into trouble for it because Gebu is always beating Ranofer. So, Ranofer, this old man and Ranofer's friend, Heqet go out trying to get Gebu caught. It was so boring I can not believe that any one can possibly enjoy it even the slightest bit. Im sorry to say, that Eloise lost herself when writing this book. It is boring, and horrible. Im very sorry to say. I think Eloise has written other great books, but this one is NOT GOOD:(! It had good discriptions and all, But the story itself is a comeplete BORE!!!
