I have had this book for 3 years and I still use it as a reference. Some of the simple thinks Scot suggest and tells about in the example stories are worth the book price many times over.

This one will stay by my desk!

All Old strategies that Will lose you money on eBay today. Pushes you to use a service like "marketworks" which is OK for big sellers, but garbage for the rest of us. The Only thing that matters on ebay is price. forget everything else, get it as cheep as you can, and sell it for less then anyone else. Keep your money for the listing fees. Don't bother with this old book.

I've been involved in ecommerce since the 90's so have quite a bit of knowledge. While some of the book was review, there were some golden nuggets that made this book a 'must have' for my library. Specifically, cycle times for posting - when to post, how long to post for, etc. It is advanced in nature so requires either some prior knowledge or a mindset to understand the complexities of the entire process. Additionally, the book references some resources that I knew were among the best in the industry which gave added trust to the validity of the content. I would like to have seen more of this so that is only reason for 4 stars.

(Hide Review...)  Awsome Book for Advanced Online Sellers
Reviewer Permalink
If you have been selling online (on ebay and/or other channels) for a while and you have all the basics down, then this is the book for you. It will help you measure and evaluate your business in order to fine tune and scale your operation. Very well written. The author is the man behind the auction management software "Channel Advisor". I attended "ebay live 2006" in Las Vegas and most top power sellers sang the praises of the software, Channeladvisor Merchant, which could cost you about a $1000 per month and is for businesses with gross sales of $20,000 to $40,000 per month. I use Channeladvisor Pro, which is limited in channels of sales, and it only costs me $30 per month.
The book is not a plug for the software and the author does not engage in over promotion of his business in any way which was a pleasant surprise. I think of this book as an online business education in a nutshell. This was about the 10th ebay book that I have read and I very strongly recommend it to advanced sellers. Best of luck. November 11, 2006.

Like most good books dedicated to buying and selling on eBay this book fits that category nicely. It is aimed at the more serious seller and goes into several deep layers on techniques and strategies to make your activities lucrative and profitable. In all I like this book because it does contain a lot of useful information at whatever lengths you decide to take you're your eBay activities. If you want to really get out there in the trenches, this book will accommodate that ambition.

(Hide Review...)  A real "love-hate" relationship......

That's exactly what this book offers. You'll absolutely love the information the author offers, but you'll also hate yourself for not adding it to your eBay reference library sooner. The information discussed, and revealed, in this book will make you think, explore and create what you have wanted all those months you finally decided to be a successful eBay seller.

You will learn how to find great products; price your products, without losing your shirt just to get them out of the garage; the proper placement of your products for the maximum dollars and how writing inspired advertising copy can make your widget worth more than another sellers.

All tihs information is logically stated and, yes...you will have to think. Then again, you're going to think anyway, so why not do it the right way?

(Hide Review...)  The best book for powersellers & advanced users
Reviewer Permalink
The title of my review is not meant to suggest that this book won't work for beginners. It simply means that this is a book that ANY eBay user will be able to appreciate, even powersellers who assume there's nothing they can learn from a guide.

As a platinum powerseller, let me tell you: this is a great book. It's not going to be all new information to you, but I guarantee you'll find some gems of wisdom here that you can put to use.

What have you go to lose?

(Hide Review...)  Promises Less - Delivers More. Top Rated Book for Power Sellers

In a time when there are hundreds of books with hyped up titles this book is an exception. The book simply commits from its title that it will tell you a set of proven methods that will help your eBay business do better. In reality it delivers much more.

1. Author starts by teaching some of the important terms, followed by life cycle of eBay products. This discussion sets you up with tools for later discussion in book.
2. This is followed by key item and models you should know for selling items on eBay (i.e. Product, Price, Placement and Promotion).
3. Author then launches into his 10 strategies. They are all very well. In my opinion could set you up to compete with other seller and get better price for your product.
4. There are good case studies towards the end.

I think this book has all going for it - its excellent for every one who is bronze to gold tear power seller or wants to be one. Book is very well written and it is clear that Scott Wingo knows what he is talking about. We used pretty much all of the strategies given in this book and our business went from no power seller to Gold Power Seller level. My only complaint is that it doesn't cover issues that face higher tier power sellers. Perhaps Scott Wingo will decide to write another book - I am ready to buy his books any time and in mean time I am not giving this one up.

In case if you are eBay seller and looking for books I suggest following books as well:

1. Tax Loopholes for eBay Sellers (good discussion around tax)
2. eBay Timesaving Techniques for Dummies (It has some neat tricks for smaller power sellers)

(Hide Review...)  Best eBay Book Out There!
Reviewer Permalink
There are a lot of eBay books on the market, many geared toward eBay businesses. Some of them are pretty good, but none comes close to this book. While there are some honest books on eBay, most are either self-promotional or too vague to really be of any help.

Scot Wingo's book is intelligently written and gets down to the nitty gritty. Granted, I just recently got a business degree, so I'm on the same level as a lot of his sometimes difficult terminology and concepts. And it's not easy reading. But it's the best I've come across--and I've read a good deal of what's out there.

Not a casual read, but rich in professional insight. I get so tired of reading books that should have been published in oinly a few pages. This is not one of them. I have an undergraduate degree in communications, and found this to be a nice refresher in advertising and marketing, but also full of insight into applying today's resources and methodologies to eBay. I also use this book in my teaching as an eBay Education Specialist.

Scott Wingo must be the hardest working writer about topics EBAY. This book is truly comprehensive, truly written for the audience it proports to be (experienced sellers who want to move to the next level). This book is written like a good text book, chapter summaries, suggestions for things to practice, etc. An excellent reference.

(Hide Review...)  When all else fails, make up an acronym
Reviewer Permalink
It is a very good book as far as basic advice toward running an ebay business goes, but the book gets very confusing for non-marketing types who don't use acronyms and buzz words in an e-business setting. It's a good thing I was a business development manager and project administrator for a dot com before reading this book, otherwise I would not have gotten very much out of it. This is mainly because it is just not geared toward the majority of eBay members and store members. It really is meant for those whose goal it is to be Power Sellers on eBay and at the top of their category.

This book has a very definite corporate feel to it with lots of bar graphs and charts and figures and strategies. If you want to kick all the competition out of your way, then this is the book for you. If you have more modest goals, it still is a good read, but it could have been done better.

The Five P's for having a successful business on eBay: Product, Placement, Performance, Price and Promotion definitely are worth remembering. Otherwise, the number crunching and acronyms are a definite distraction to what might have been a decent eBay book.

(Hide Review...)  One of the better eBay books
Reviewer Permalink
This book targets people looking to make a full-time living selling on eBay. It is not targeted at buyers or infrequent sellers. The book does a good job of presenting information and it has a number of great tips that will benefit any seller. Infrequent sellers will have to wade through a lot of business strategy text to uncover the most valuable tips. Overall, it was one of the better eBay books I read.

After reading the top eBay books, below are my recommendations:
---Beginner with eBay and computers---
1. The Official eBay Bible

---eBay Seller---
1. Sell it on eBay
2. eBay Hacks

---Full-Time eBay Business (not for the casual seller)---
1. eBay Strategies
2. eBay Business the Smart Way

(Hide Review...)  Great Advice
Reviewer Permalink
This book is not easy reading; it is like taking a crash course in management accounting, economics and marketing. The author also freely scatters acronyms throughout the text (they are very well explained on first use though). The book is well worth the effort, and has excellent chapter summaries to convey key points.

My ebay (and other auction site) selling ambitions are limited; I am looking to generate a secondary income (books target audience is the full time business, not casual seller). This book has made me rethink some previous auctions, in particular exclusive use of $1NR.

The assessment of listing upgrades has made me rethink what I will do in future auctions. The promotions strategy is great, the material on keyword searching is excellent.

The chapter on branding and the use of the me page is excellent: I incorporated some of the suggestions into linking my me page to web pages, despite a very impersonal web address, http://mysite.verizon.net/vze48sdz/ - the flow of traffic was surprising. Combined with the industrial strength ebay hacks book advice on affiliate selling this prooving effective!

The real life scenarios are superb; they really do help clarify the strategies outlined in the book.

Excellent book that has easily repayed it's cost.
