Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger. Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

If you like blood sucker books, then you'll love the series. It's easy to read and keeps the reader interested.
I also recommend THE FIST OF GOD and THE REFLECTION OF EVIL by A.T. Nicholas. Two wild works of fiction with spiritual warfare overtones. I like the fact that the president of the U.S. is black and the VP is a woman, which he wrote ten years ago. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 09:36:44 EST)

I bought this first book to read on a plane. Within a few days I had read the entire series. I instantly fell in love with all of the characters, even the evil ones. The only downfall is when it ends, you want more, so much more...

The book itself is great but the reader, Ilyana Kadushin, ruins the whole thing. She has the same voice for all characters, as if she is holding the book right infront of her and just reading. I am an avid audiobook listener and Ilyana is NOT good at this and because of her I will not be buying the rest of the series. This is a shame because Stephenie Meyers has done a great job. Personally I think the audiobook should be reread by Laural Merlington or even Dick Hill, who know how to put themselves into all the characters and you know who is talking without hearing their names. They all have a seperate voice, as if it were seperate individuals playing the part. I know I am only one person, but this is my opinion.

I've put off reading this book for a long while. Finally, I decided I had to see what all the hype was about and found it to be an easy and fun read.
It is about a girl named Bella who moves from Arizona to Washington to live with her father. She's not too happy about this but wants her mom to be able to travel with her new boyfriend without feeling guilty. The town she moves to is Forks. It is a small, dismal, rainy town where not much happens. Bella starts school and makes friends easily enough. Her eye spies another group of students who sit by themselves in the cafeteria. She is at once mesmerised by their grace and beauty. After some time she ends up getting to know one of the kids at lunch whose name is Edward. From there her world turns upside down and Forks turns out to be not such a bad place. All in all I liked this story. I can see why it would appeal to teenage girls. As for me, I'm an adult and it stilled caught me up in it. Why 4 stars instead of 5? The middle was a bit too slow. I was really into the book at first but about half way through I started wondering if this whole book was just a romantic tale. The same sort of thing kept happening between Bella & Edward. I thought that with vampires you'd have a little more "scare" appeal to it. Finally, it happens and things set off a little faster for me. I really enjoyed it then. I will be looking forward to reading the rest of the series. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 09:36:44 EST)

In a lot of ways the first book of the series has everything: a brooding Darcy/Heathcliff, a likeable heroine who gets good grades and has her own opinions, a mysterious race of "people" who hover between the living and the dead, and a good plot that drives you to resist eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom/taking a shower until you've finished the last page -- even the "About the Author" section.
BUT...it really does read like a romance novel (without the soft porn) that hovers between Harry Potter and Anne Rice aimed at younger women (teenagers). There are a lot of things you must "accept" before liking the book. Things like, you can skip homework (and class) and still get good grades; you can fall madly in love to the point where you sever all your pre-existing social ties to hang with someone who used to kill people (like Dexter), and you can be hot and horny for a guy who feels like a block of ice. If you can get past these things and the denouement that was really too much of a good thing, you'll at least like the book. If anything, it's entertaining and you can join in the conversation with your female co-workers at the water cooler when you've finished. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:47 EST)

If you are a fan of Anne Rice or any other vampire fiction for that matter, don't waste your time with this book. It's a boring, G-rated story that has very little to do with anything at all.

As a middle school educator and former Language Arts teacher, I consistently see the issue of media/electronic entertainment taking over young people's lives. This leaves them close minded, poor in vocabulary and reading comprehension, which affects their social skills and ability to process understading of concepts taught in the classroom (all subjects). Reading is such a vital part of academic success that it always thrills me to see another author find a way to inspire adolescents to read, and to enjoy it also. Meyer, next to Rowling, has an obvious gift for not only sparking middle school (and adults) students to read, but to carry around 500 page novels that they can't pull their noses out of. I, too, would like to praise Meyer for creating characters that are identifiable and cause the reader to become enamored with their lives and the mysterious nature of their existence. Enthralled with every move and decision Meyer's female protagonist, Bella, has to make, I read Twilight in one day. I only put it down because I couldn't leave the real world for too long. However, my choice was to escape to Folks, WA whenever possible. I found myself wanting to be there and to interact with this world Meyer had created for her readers. Definitely a winning YA book!

The book was entertaining from beginning to end, well written and moves along at a good pace. The characters are a little unrealistic, in my opinion, but you'll enjoy it if you're a sucker for a love story like me. The fact that it's about vampires redeems it from being a completely sappy love story.

I read this book within a day and devoured the rest of the series within a week.
And yet I don't really understand why I liked the book so much. I can tell you that within the first few hundred pages nothing happens. I was halfway through the book when a friend asked me what it was about. I could only say that this girl named Bella is going to high school. That was it! And yet I couldn't put it down. The relationships between the characters was intriguing, but it's true that the plot moves forward very slowly, especially compared to the plot movement of a typical Harry Potter book. Well, maybe it's the way Meyer writes that kept me reading. Let me tell you, I've read some vampire books, and compared to these other books, this world seems less contrived and more believable. I know, a world where vampires exist believeable? But it WAS somehow. So I say, pick it up if you're mildly curious (and are not turned off by Vampires + Love Story + Very Little Action). It's an easy read, and who knows? Maybe it'll be one of your guilty pleasures too. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:46 EST)

Grades 9-up. Twilight, the book that started it all begins with Bella Swan's move from sunny Phoenix to the dreary and always damp town known as Forks, Washington. Bella gets drawn to the Cullen family for their unnatural beauty, strength, and speed. Edward, one of the Cullen's catches Bella's eye especially, developing a strong fascination to one another. Their fascination turns into a love so unbelievable that they could not live without each other and would trade a life for a life. But never did she know that this would change her life forever, taking a terrifying turn.
Bella had always suspected that there was more to Edward than meets the eye. His feature give off an inhuman look, and after putting all the puzzle pieces together, realizes that Edward and his family are vampires. Intertwining with Edward's life, Bella gets pulled into the fantasy world where she never thought it to exist. After encountering a bloodthirsty predator nobody is safe, and endangers the one person she holds most dear. Every page full of suspense, this is a book you'd never think of putting down once you begin reading. Equally balance of romance and suspense this story will keep the minds entertained. Twilight will have its readers within its pages...wanting more. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:48 EST)

Vampires and high school horrors aside, this little sizzler is quite a love story. The overcast peninsula housing little town of Forks holds a treasure or more likely a deadly secret. The secret is a coven of vampires that isn't as keen on satiating their hunger as they are in satiating their loneliness, especially the youngest and loneliest vampire; Edward. With their youth preserved they surrender their daily hours to schoolwork but their thoughts and nights are not filled with studying, that's for sure. When a newcomer comes to town, quiet and pale Bella, the two worlds slowly collide because she isn't afraid of how different the Cullen family seems, instead she finds her persona to be absolutely and utterly revolting to Edward and can't shake off his visible distaste to be as far away form her as possible. When random events plant them in each other's path they start to open up, shyly at first but with pulsating heat brewing in each core. Edward is silent, walks with flawless coordination and has abilities that stun Bella, attracting her to him to his disbelief, unable to comprehend her lack of fright for his secret. And her girly longing for his perfect face and to simply be near him drives her and the reader crazy, making for a really decadent read. The constant sizzle of flirtation murmurs through the air every time they are near each other, as he tries to keep the innocent girl away from his so far dormant blood lust, but with Bella's stubbornness she brings the lion down before her and has no choice but to accept something grander than his enigmatic existence and subdue his hunger to accept her love.
Soon there is nothing else but Edward and Bella, they can't exist alone yet being together is almost unbearable. The coy conversations and building heat was driving me crazy and I was glued to the pages like a maniac, not being able to think about anything else but the story. I could relate to the physical pain they started to feel when they would have to part, it's quite real and possible, but better than never feeling it, love it worth it in the end, no matter what ride it takes us on. The force of love is beautifully written by the author, and even though most of the book is about the little cat and mouse game that the enamored teens play, it starts to turn beyond them as trouble outside of their control arrives on the horizon. Nomadic vampires that know no love and no care find themselves attached to the strange chemistry that Edward and Bella share and they want nothing more than to sink their fangs into her neck and burst their love bubble. The story is magical and extremely real- vampires aside, it's a juicy read, and I was sick with fever wondering what would happen next. I knew what the cast of the movie that comes out this month looked like and Kristen Stewart and Rob Patterson make the perfect Bella and Edward, I had them playing all the scenes as I read in my mind and it was flawless. This might not be the greatest book ever written but it was a shiny speck in the dark skies that came with the cold weather, and kept my heart rate way past its bedtime. - Kasia S. I absolutely fell in love with this story. I got the first book and within 24 hours i read the whole thing. i had some breaks of course in between. But i loved this story so much that during my little breaks i couldnt stop thinking of what would happen next. Needless to say i read it again and again and now own the rest of the series. And this book by far is my absolute favorite.

I started reading this book in May after much hype that it was the best thing since sliced bread. I am a librarian in an all-girls' school, and we were being hammered by requests for "Twilight" and the subsequent books from every angle. So hey, I'm a sucker for romance and vampires and that kind of storyline (loved Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith when I was younger) and thought this book might be fun to get lost in.
What a HUGE disappointment!! (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!) I initially stopped reading with 170 pages to go, figuring the book should go to someone who really wanted to read this kind of drivel. The main character, Bella Swan...wow, I couldn't stand her! What a grumbly, sour, spiteful baby. What in Hades could ANYONE in their right mind find attractive about this girl? And as someone else mentioned, her inability to walk a straight line was not a cute character flaw - she should be institutionalized. I still have no idea what was so great about Edward Cullen, aside from the fact that we keep being reminded ad nauseum that he's beautiful, godlike, perfect, beautiful, godlike, perfect...and so forth. Bella goes into extreme medical distress every time he touches/kisses her with his cold, marble, stone-like body parts. Hmm, I don't know if I'd want to make out with Michaelangelo's David, but some girls out there might. Even the dangerous parts about Edward (driving fast, blood lust, etc.) don't make him attractive in a real bad-boy way; I just found him boring and ridiculous in his perfection. And the icing on the cake was that the author expected us to believe that in the 90 years that Edward had been "alive" as a vampire, he never once felt attracted to another female, human or vampire? Oh wait, Bella smells tasty...that's right...well, then that just totally forgives the fact that she's a completely two-dimensional, no personality, no redeeming qualities whatsoever character. Honestly, I can't even remember what she was supposed to look like - when I saw a picture of the author, I just started picturing Bella as Stephenie, and that seemed to work out fine. Anyway, last Friday a copy of "Twilight" came back with no requests attached, so I figured I might as well finish it. I'd read the negative reviews, and I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I love fantasy, but I felt like there were millions of pages of completely unnecessary and pathetically detailed dialogue. We get to read every "Uh" and "Hmm" and "Yes" and other two- or three-syllable iota of exchange between everyone. The plot is not about anything happening...it's simply one hideously long date. Bella is a master of getting herself into trouble, and Edward, her knight in shining skin, forever jumps to the rescue. At the end she laments that she doesn't want to play Lois Lane to his Superman - she wants her turn at being Superman, too. You've got to be kidding me! She's the most useless individual ever, and yet they still spout "I love you" to each other without making the reader believe it actually means something. They have a stupid crush on each other, not the stuff that love's made of. Bella and Edward have no good, honest, "yes, I feel the love" reason to be together. Period. Technically speaking, the writing is shallow and uninteresting. Descriptions are terrible, such as the completely generic bad guy thrown in on a whim at the end because there should be an element of great danger (or perhaps so her publisher suggested). Maybe it's good for an easy, mindless read, but I found it painful and kept wondering why I didn't just stop reading. I finally likened this book to a bad smell...where you say, "Eeew, smell this" and the next person does! In the end, I guess if it gets girls who would not otherwise pick up a book to read, that's a fine accomplishment, but a pox on those who compare this tripe to Harry Potter. Not even in the same universe!! Oh, Stephenie...they encouraged you to publish this?! I will decidedly NOT be reading any more...I'm only so much of a glutton for punishment. (A MUCH better read is "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. That was a love story that really made you feel how much the characters cared about each other and introduced a cool time-shift fantasy element.) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:47 EST)

I am 27 and a vampire fan. My younger sister was reading this and thought I would like it. I knew it was geared towards those younger than me but I love to read and thought I would try it. I went through the this book rather quickly and found that I could not put it down. Even when we went to lunch at Chili's while my hubby watched the game I was reading. I found the story interesting even told from first person. I think Charie could have used a little more depth and some of the other characters. I think Bella could be a real person, there are many different personalities in the world and person like her could totally exist. I also felt like the vampire story was believable. I am on page 369 of 563 of the second book New Moon and if it weren't for having to work I would be finishing that one. It gets even better to me in the second book and introduces new characters without saying too much. To sum it up, I liked the book and enjoyed the story and the characters and I also understood why some of those who gave bad reviews felt about the way they did. Everyone is entitled to their opinion!I will continue with the series and I can't wait for the movie to come out.

yes yes yes, this is yet another book about star crossed lovers and many may shoo it down for just that reason, but isn't shakespeare known till date because he chose topics to write about that interest us and are relevant to us still? well the star crossed lovers idea seems to be one of those and this is definitely a very original take on it. there is the obvious undertone of the idea of temptation (very well illustrated on the cover of this book) which in itself is something that's intriguing...and there is the rightly placed humor and mystery and the occasional thrill from the events happening in Bella's supposedly ordinary life, if you'd call it that. and since it's teen-romance at the end of the day, the novel doesn't go without it's obligatory cuteness! definitely a recommended read (though i do not agree with people putting it at par with Harry Potter)

I have no delusions that this review will in any way make a difference in terms of anyone's decision to read (or not read) "Twilight." After all, the series has taken on a life if its own, becoming the biggest thing in publishing since the Harry Potter books. (And that's where the comparisons end.) So this is for me.
"Twilight" is a moderately successful twist on the vampire genre, but is ultimately more teenage romance than supernatural thriller. It's like an ABC After School Special entitled "My Prom Date is A Vampire." Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like here. Meyer is a terrific writer with a great ear for dialogue. She knows how adolescents think, and has done a marvelous job of creating place (in this case the sun-deprived American northwest). Plotting, however, is not her strong suit. The first 100 or so pages of "Twilight" are riveting, as are the final 100 (into which most of the book's action is inelegantly crammed). The middle 200, however, is a hard, long slog. What I first thought of as a deliberate, easy style, became simply slow and tedious. For chapter upon chapter, Edward and Bella talk...and talk...and talk. In between the talk, she moons over his gorgeousness (and frets that she's not worthy of him) and he sniffs her neck appreciatively. I began to grow impatient and restless, and frankly put the book down for weeks at a time. Finally I was able to finish, and I'm not sorry I did. But I don't quite see where this is all going. I'm sure if I were a 14 year old, insecure and emotionally immature girl with fantasies of attracting the cutest boy in high school, I'd be first in line to buy the sequels. As I'm a middle-aged male fantasy fan, I'm not sure I will. Maybe if I get a sense that the books are more concerned with telling an actual story, and are less about the angst of adolescence. As I'm no vampire, I'm not holding my breath. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:48 EST)

When i first saw these books on the bestseller list on amazon, I looked at the summary, and thought that they wouldn't be good books. My friend started to read the book, so then she talked me into it, and i finally decided I'd buy it. I barely read fictional books, since i mostly go for the non-fiction books, but this was definitely a good change! You grow a sense of care for all the characters in the book, and it's amazing to see the characters grow. It's an easy read, you don't really need to think about the things too much, since it's all right there pretty much. It's not really predictable either, so you don't really know what's going to happen. I thought this book was very well written, and was very interesting to the end! It was really difficult to put this book down, since I wanted to keep reading!! I am now on the book Eclipse, and I can tell you that the story gets even more interesting as it gets closer to the end!! I definitely can't wait to read the 4th book, hopefully soon!
I was really surprised to see the people who really hate this book, it really isn't a bad book, and from most of the bad reviews I have seen were that some of the people didn't even finish the book. You aren't really qualified to speak of the book, if you haven't even finished the book. I have read several books that I hated, but I at least FINISHED them... It was one of the best books I have read, PERIOD. I am a wife and a mother of 2 kids and I still enjoyed it. I had not read any vampire books prior to this, but this book has such a unique take on vampires I loved it (can't say that enough). Once I started the book it was impossible to put it down (even for potty breaks). I wanted to be immersed in this world and never leave.
After I finished the book I was so sad it was over, I realized that I had fallen in love with Edward. It's been over a month since I've read the book and I still find myself daydreaming about Edward. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-06 07:25:48 EST)

Twilight was a great book to read, especially close to Halloween. I can't wait to see the movie and see how the story translates to the screen!

I absolutely loved the series. I teach middle school and the girls and I have intelligent discussions every day about this series. Anything that gets kids reading is worth it to me.
I thought the storyline flowed perfectly from book to book. As an adult, I always read what the kids are reading and this series was great. Maybe my mind is still stuck in 8th grade and that is why it appealed to me, but I think it is well worth the time to read the series. Since I am not an author, I refuse to criticize Mrs. Meyer's writing style. It keeps kids interested. Thats all that needs to be said! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-04 08:04:22 EST)

The Twilight series are by far the best books I have ever read. The suspense of everything is so mind capturing and powerful. Everytime I put down the book when something bad was happening, I felt like it was happening RIGHT THEN IN FORKS and it wouldnt stop till I kept reading. The plot of these stories does not feel to fictonal, since the love between Edward and Bella is so strong. Stephanie Meyer captures there love so elegantly. She is a very talented author, who I would be honored to meet. Meyer's exceeded her expectations with visuals; the book is rich with figurative language that paints you a picture as good as VanGO. ALL FEMALES FROM 12 AND UP HAVE TO READ THESE BOOKS. If you do not read this bool I am telling you that you are missing out extremely. If you read this book completely and it is not one of your favorite books, than you obviously were not r eading it thouroughly. This book is so amazing that the day after I got to page 150 I finished the book, reading around 400 pages in one day. Now my friends are my life and I talk to them or hang out with them EVERYDAY, but that day I didnt even text them once untill finished reading the book. READ THIS BOOK!!!!! IT IS AMAZING!!!!!

When those who have written a negative review of this book have a movie made of their review, I will believe what they said.

I love romance! I love vampires! Perfect book!! If you're looking for suspense or action, this isn't the book for you. Most of the book IS about Bella and Edward falling in love, which I thought was wonderful. As I was reading I found myself giddy, giggling and swooning over descriptions of Edward. I love the slow unfolding of Bella and Edwards love. I couldn't put it down. The end of the book does have a little action in it, and Edward does save Bellas life quite often, but what do you expect? She's mortal. He's immortal.

By far, twilight has been the best book I've ever read. Out of all the hundreds of books I've discovered over the years, this series has been the best. I was excited to learn Edward's story was going to be published, in the book Midnight Sun. To those of you who go onto the website and follow what's going on, that is being put on hold. When I first saw another book being made (especially one in Edward's version) I was ecstatic, and could hardly anticipate the time before I could read it. Now, due to a theft-like issue, there is a possibility the book will never be finished. She has put the rough draft, which is over 260 pages long, onto her site so her fans can enjoy that much of it. I found out that when I tried to read it, it wasn't the same, and I got to the third chapter before calling it quits. I want to anticipate the release, just like I did for all the other ones. Visit the website [...] to see how much it's upset the delicate balance in the world of Twilight

I wasted money on Robert Jordan books and hated them. Couldn't get past the first few chapters. I really tried to give it a chance but just couldn't take the multiple pages of Robert describing a road. Please! Get on with it!
Twilight I see has a few bad reviews but I personally liked the book. I haven't had time to read lately but I didn't want to put this one down. I'm glad I didn't read the 1 star reviews before I bought the book. I will definitely see the movie when it comes out. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-03 07:38:49 EST)

The main character Bella is ANNOYING!! She is a constant damsel in distress - always needing her "perfect" boyfriend to make her happy (hardly a heroine). This book is alright I guess for pre-teens...I found it to be in the same category as Harry Potter. It could have possibly been better if it had been edited properly...the character's were quite annoying and over-reacted to everything...ah, teenage angst!

I rarely write book reviews, but wanted to say something about Twilight and the rest in this series. I'm a 34 year-old married female. As a fan of good vampire fiction for years, I had dismissed these books when they came out because they were supposedly for "young adult" readers. I just finished reading the entire series in less than 2 weeks. It is absolutely the most incredible story I have read in years. It's one of the most romantic stories I have ever read. I think it is probably wasted on most teens...Most people I know who have read them are adults. I even got my husband to start reading them.
The writing is superb, entertaining, and I could not put these books down. I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone who either enjoys excellent vampire fiction or a wonderful romance. I enjoyed every single character and every turn of events. It is just incredible. Meyer's creation is pure genius. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-03 07:38:48 EST)

I read this book only because I hated hearing all the hype about it and not knowing what it was about. (It's the same reason I read all those Harry Potter books and the Da Vinci Code). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. For me, the best thing about thing was the way in which the romance was written. At 22, I can still vividly remember high school and being 17 and in love. Reading about how Bella scanned the cafeteria looking for Edward reminded me of my days of young love. The biology class where the electricity between herself and Edward was so intense was fantastic. I felt so connected with the characters. I can easily understand why this series is so popular. However, for older readers, I feel like the magic could be lost on them. They could just think it was passionate but irrational. You only live once, and you only get one great first love. Why not be irrational?

I have to say I had my doubts. I had heard from several people that this was a good series to read. I had also heard that they couldn't believe they were reading this type of books. So curiosity got the best of me. I borrowed this book from my sister. The way Twilight is written, it had me there. I felt like I was there watching everything, I was a part of it. The story reminds me of a young love, a love you don;t want to end. There is that person, no matter how bad they think they are you for you, you know that there is good inside. You long for that persons every touch, glance and just the sound of their voice. It reminds me of someone I once knew. I have to say I can not wait to start the next book in the series. Hmm, I don't get the people who are hating on this book. This book has affected me more than any other book I've read. It is the type of book that you can not get out of your head. I know that millions of other people feel this way, and it's difficult to pinpoint the exact reason. I believe that it's the great love story between Edward and Bella. Women especially are drawn to it - although my mom teaches high school English and she has several guys reading the series. Doesn't everyone want this type of "forever" love?
I've read this book several times. Each time I find something different to love about it. This is hands-down my favorite book of the saga (followed by Breaking Dawn, the final book). Twilight has a sort of sentimental value since it was the first of the series. I really hope the movie lives up to expectations. It'll be hard to top this book, but I'm rooting for it. Now we just need Meyer to decide to publish Midnight Sun - Twilight from Edward's perspective! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-02 06:37:42 EST)

This book surprised me. I really thought the backgroud of high school life was not exciting...This book will definitely appeal to a younger group. It did hold my interest as it took in the mores of the native peoples in the area...That was educational.

This is one of the best books I have ever read! I'm really shocked and surprised by the reader's who don't like it! You either "get it" or "you don't" and I feel kind of sad for the people who just don't get it. I love this thrilling romance and I know it is a book that will last for ages! A true romantic story with adventure, excitement and of course mystery! Oh if only Edward were real!! The perfect guy! You gals know what I mean : ) Oh Stephenie Meyer please, please don't ever stop writing for us (and yourself!) Thank you, thank you for this wonderful book that completely swept me off my feet...

This is a great 1st book in the Twilight Series. It is very descriptive and easy to read. It's hard to put down. It is a young adult book but it appeals to older people too. If you read it you'll enjoy it.

For a first time writer I can not imagine a better plot and storyline. Her imagination is superb and I could not put the book down. The book was originally written for teen girls but I am 30 and myself and all my girlfriends have read all the books. Page turner for sure.

I belong to a few book clubs and have read more than 400 books in my 31 years but rarely does a book come along that truely captivates me and captures my undivided attention. I bought the book yesterday afternoon and read the entire book in less than 5 hours.
Stephenie Meyer has a wonderful way of keeping you mesmerized by these intriguing characters. I grew up with Buffy & Angel and I can honestly say that Bella and Edward put Buffy & Angels epic love story to shame. Beautifully composed and an absolutely delightful read. I can't wait to read the next book in the Twilight saga. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-02 06:37:43 EST)

Going on the basis that this series is popular enough to warrant a huge fanbase and movie I thought I'd give it a shot.
I wish I hadn't. This is far from the worst book I've ever read but it is so very dull and void of any characters with... likability? Personality? The story is so extremely lackluster in every way. The first quarter of the book is building up this apparent "love at first sight" and doing the unthinkable and making vampires boring. And just when CONFLICT sets in (nearing page four hundred) it is resolved in the blink of an eye and the reader is subjected to more fluffy romance. At the end of this apparently praiseworthy book I was so frustrated that I threw the novel onto the couch and left the room. No deep character development happens and what little does is just instantaneous. Her narrative style consists mostly of descriptions of the Adonis Edward... which become ENTIRELY repetitive after the first hundred pages. I was unimpressed through and through. I can't talk this book down enough. I abhored it for wasting my time. Please read Libba Brey or Terry Pratchett instead. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-02 06:37:43 EST)
