Book is okay but using the Adobe Elements web page showing "how to" videos is much easier to understand. Also Adobe offers a $79 video workshop which is worth the money if you want to learn. I probably would not buy the book again.

I purchased Photoshop Elements 6 after reading several excellent reviews on the product. When I received my copy from Amazon, I had trouble getting it to work on my new computer so I called Adobe for technical assistance. According to Michael from Adobe, the product number on my box is not in their database so they could not help me. Michael stated that the software must be fraudulent.
I contacted Amazon and the customer service rep (who by the way had horrible English) did not act like it was a big deal that your company may have received illegal copies of the Adobe program and are passing them on to your consumers. I would like someone from management to contact me at dabgarner@gmail.com or (904)894-1054. Thank you. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-25 11:11:28 EST)

Having used the Dummies books before, with great success, I was very disappointed in this book. There are several instances where what the book states does not mesh with what is actually happening with the software. I bought this book about a week after I'd bought Photoshop Elements 6, after realizing the online help was next to no help. I don't know if it's the authors' fault, or perhaps the software itself - it is certainly not intuitive, when taken with other programs I've worked in (both PC and Mac - programs like MS Word, MS Publisher, QuarkExpress, etc.). Whatever the cause - maybe a combination of both? - the whole process of using the book and the software has been a very frustrating experience. I would not buy another book by either of these authors again, given my experience with this one.

I just recently bought this book and hemmed and hawed around as to whether to get this book or the Missing Manual.
I'm glad I went with this book. It is simple and easy to use and it seems to go into detail on some areas, yet missing something on other areas. By playing around with the program once I've read how to do something, I find I can go further. I picked up on some helpful hints immediately when I first started reading this book and am keeping my side notes to refer back to. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-25 09:48:35 EST)

This is a great REFERENCE book for Photoshop Elements 6. For me, it's pointless to thoroughly "read" such books from start to finish. Who can effectively recall the tons of accumulated facts in just the opening chapters? I can't, so I just breeze through it, to become famaliar with the contents (without trying to fully understanding how to apply everything I've "scanned"). The real value of this book is it's reference value. Having scanned the book, I found many new techiques I had never imagined. NOW I can turn directly to a particular procedure and the step-by-step procedures walk me through it.
Photography is a great hobby, and digital has opened new ways of creating better photographs. The magic of the darkroom is now available to amatures who have limited time or money to invest. I simply can't (won't) devote the time necessary to equal the accumulated experience of the experts I admire. But I DO pay attention to their expertise via popular magazines and books. Photoshop Elements 6 is a great tool, and the book, "Photoshop Elements 6 for Dummies," helps me to understand how I may want to manipulate a similar scene, and explains how I can do it. One more example. A few months ago I also ordered "Understanding Exposure" (revised edition) by Bryan Peterson. This is yet another noteworthy example of a highly respected photographer offering his expertise: Explanations of how he captured stunning photographs are accompanied by his OWN GREAT examples. My point is simple, amatures can capture great photographs if you are willing to arm ourselves with the advice of the masters. Owning the best equipment in the world is meaningless if you don't know how to use it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-21 00:14:09 EST)

How accurate can it be when it states that Adobe stopped supporting Mac? They may have had a lull, but PSE6 is available for Mac too. Otherwise these are good series of books.

I have found the book ASIN:0470192380 Photoshop Elements 6 For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))]] to be very helpful as I have been taking lessons on using Photoshop Elements and found that the book explained things very clearly for me. Having the graphics made it easy for me to understand my lessons and also it showed me there were lots of things that could be done in the programme that I had never even thought of. I had already seen the book before I ordered mine so I knew that it would be a good one to get.

I liked this book very much. I haven't gotten to use it as much as I would like to, however, I can have it as a reference book to take down when I need it. It goes step by step which is what I need.

This book was brand new, half the price of the store's, and arrived both quickly and in excellent condition. I would definitely recommend this seller.

This book is pretty good -- especially for someone who is not in any way familiar with Photoshop software. The very beginning of the book tells you the editors only allowed a certain number of pages to this book, so you will not be told about everything this program has to offer. I bought 'Photoshop Elements 6: The Missing Manual' in combination with this 'Dummies' book. So far, I have been able to place my cat on a cloud with angel wings, and I have also put myself on a football field hugging the mascot.

I spent a considerable period of time with this book. I never got a good feel for the program and was confused by several chapters. The concept of the organizer should be laid out closer to the beginning of the book. Similarly, the "quick edit" and "guided edit" features should be covered earlier. In contrast, the Missing Manual is much better written, has examples on the web, and gives a better feel for the program. I usually like the "Dummies" book, but this one wasn't written as well as most. I think The Missing Manual can be seen on line for free for 45 days.

I was surprised at the complexity of this "Dummies" book. It is not for dummies! But maybe Photoshop Elements 6 is not for dummies either. Chapter 3 "Working with resolutions, Color Modes, and File Fomats" is very difficult to understand. I chose this book because the program itself offers very little help and although there are other books available, I figured dummies was about my speed since I already own 9 other dummies booksPhotoshop Elements 6 For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)).

Excellent book... easy to understand, good explanations, great details... a great addition to the original 'user guide' supplied with program... I will reference it often in my pursuit of perfecting my photographic boo-boo's...

A much clearer help book than Adobe's own printed manual. The colour photographs were much easier to follow and the text easier to follow.
