THIS BOOK WAS EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. THE AUTHOR WAS TOTALY HONEST, HE TALKED ABOUT THE STUFF HE KNEW, SPREAD OUT THE PRINCIPLES IN EASY TO UNDERSTAND CHUNKS, IF THE AUTHOR DID NOT KNOW SOMETHING, HE SAID SO, GAVE REFERENCES TO FIND OUT FOR ONES SELF.

IMHO, A PERFECT BOOK TO START WITH, '10', I NOW HAVE A PRETTY GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF GOOGLE SKETCH UP.

BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK, I WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SKETCH UP.

the type was little bigger, made for less straining to read
the book was bound well, did not split any pages, I carried this book everywhere,

might want to include an interactive dvd, show something, then let the reader copy the action

also, might consider a coupon for a discount on the pro 6, I would take avantage of this offer

Sketchup is a lot of fun and this book provides the methods that are not immediately obvious and makes this application even more satisfying.

The author tells you which tools to use, but not how to apply them. The book is more of an outline than a set of educational exercises or instructions. I'm finding Sketchup's help system significantly more useful.

Like all "Dummies" books this is an invaluable reference work for a complex subject. This book is helpful for a beginner, just discovering "Sketchup" and also for a frequent user, needing a helping hand.

Chopra has written an excellent book. Good sense of humor, easy to understand, practical and well organized. Some of the "For Dummies" books are a little too cute. The writing style gets in the way of the information. That is not the case with Chopra's book. His humor and personality make the subject interesting. I am a beginner with Sketchup, but I think more advanced users will benefit from this book too because of the way the book is organized and the depth of the information. The book works as a reference as well as a collection of tutorials.

I was new to SketchUp. And this book helped a lot. I learned things that weren't mentioned in video and other tutorials.
Also, it was easy to read.

I have no background in CAD programs at all and my attempts to master SketchUp were futile until I purchased this book. Within a couple of hours I was able to draw a simple building. It's a great book! I thought so much of it, I bought a second copy for my son!

Clear , concise, from the basic to the more intense about using what has become a fundamental software for initial 3D viewing of Architectural descriptions and presentations. Sketchup has tutorials that are very useful
but this reference goes deeper into the software and is there when you need a ready reference.

This book along with the online videos will get you up and running fast. It's see one, read one, now do one. The online videos are the key to doing the book as sometimes the books doesn't contain all the information for completing the project. So you have to write down the dimensions from the video into the book. This is what I did and I was able to follow along with the book and complete the projects. In a word "excellent."

Overall the book is good and helpful. I was disappointed that it only focused on architectural design and didn't offer much for design like furniture, etc. which is what I was more interested in. Even with that short coming it was well written and very helpful.

I am a retired professional engineer, architect, and 3D graphics artist/instructor. I have been using SketchUp Pro for about 3 years mainly for creating Earth and space structures that I later import into Daz Bryce for rendering. This well written, light-hearted, and extremely thorough book is an essential asset for begineers and a valuable reference tool for anyone using SketchUp. Computer software manual writers can often times get over zealous with methods and confuse everyone but themselves. Fortunately Aidan Chopra is not one of those people. If you want to draw most anything you can imagine you need to do two things. First download the free version of SketchUp and second buy this book. You will be very pleased with both actions.

I ordered this book for my neice who is an interior design student, working on her Associates Degree. This book is required for her classes. She could not find a copy locally and was thrilled to get this copy very promptly. She reports the book is excellent, easy to understand, and arrived in great condition.

Really excellent instructions on how to use Sketchup. I'd recommend it to anyone starting out in the program, you'll save yourself a lot of time if you read the explanations and practice the exercises. I wish all the "Dummy" books were this clear and to the point.

The author states that the Dimention tool is so simple to use it doesn't need much of an explanation. He is wrong. It needs a chapter! One written with more detail and clarity than the rest of the book. If I could send it back for a refund I would.

We are using this in the office and it is getting alot of us over the SketchUp hump. I would recommend this to those who are meandering through the new realm of 3D.

I bought the book because I wanted to get started using SketchUp to draw a house construction plan. I wanted to see what the house would look like in 3-dimension. I reviewed the on-line training files and got a good understanding of what SketchUp could do, but, as one might expect, there was not a lot of "how-to-get-started" information.
The book is well written and easy to follow. It is set up based on a training theory I like, trial and error. The base example is a house sketch with vague dimensions. As you begin to follow the instructions, you make mistakes. You quickly learn how to erase your mistakes and re-start. After a bit, I began to have something worth saving. Once saved, it became a means of re-starting after "big" mistakes.
It is truly a learn-by-doing tool.
I haven't used the book for the more complex features of the program.
I got what I wanted and the price of the book was a small price to pay for the lesson.
I used to use MacDraw years ago on a Mac. This is the best casual drawing tool I've seen since then.

If you are into SketchUp then Aidan Chopra's great read gets you up to speed. His web site has some excellent educational video's on SketchUp and along with the SketchUp download it's all for free....G.J.Crabb

This is a very practical resource to help understand the program. The author give clean instructions on the ins and outs of the use of the program. I would recommend this book to those trying to understand SketchUp.

This book is clear, consise and contains all the basics you need to start using sketchup.
The first three parts (roughly 250 pages) in the book are all you need to start using skecthup efficiently. The remaining parts of the books discuss more advanced topics.
In conjonction with the several online tutorials this book is the perfect companion to start using skectup.

Actually, having written that 'title' for this review, perhaps I should recant. In ordinary use, I suppose, when it is said someone evokes an attitude, a mental snapshot of some rapper probably flashes through most minds. Aidan DOES NOT have that sort of an attitude.

What sort of attitude he does have is aptly stated in the Introduction. If that 'stuff in the front' is something you never read, make this an exception. Read the Introduction and I guarantee you will decide to buy the book.

Here's the part of the Introduction that matters:

"I like to have a book on hand when I'm beginning something new because I like the way books work. If I need help, I look it up, but something else invariably happens -- I end up reading more than I needed, and I usually end up finding out something I didn't even know I didn't know."

Here is not the place to note that if Donald Rumsfeld had ever had such an humble thought, our country [not to mention the one we invaded] would be in far better shape. Here is the place to note that Mr. Chopra's attitude is directly responsible for his planning and executing one of the best computer 'how-to' books you will ever enjoy owning.

SketchUp is a fabulous piece of software; "SketchUp for Dummies" is a really exceptional piece of technical writing that will greatly increase your ability to make the software dance.
