I was a student in Professor Coquillette's English Legal History course last year, and we used his book as the single source for our study. The book is largely a collection of a vast array of original sources, carefully explained and placed in historical context by Professor Coquillette. The book is like his lectures: clear, concise and fun. After struggling through the first year of law school, the Anglo-American Legal Heritage tied the morass of contracts, torts and property together into a comprehensible whole. The law cannot be understood without the proper historical context -- Prof. Coquillette's book is the best single source for that context.
