Read this on the crowded bus. People look over your shoulder to see why you are laughing with tears streaming down your face, mascara running(boy or girl, doesn't matter). Make sure they get a good, long look at this. You will not have to share your seat, no matter how crowded the bus.

Best read after reading JTHM. Lots more noodle boy and other shorts. Makes me laugh in the same way I laugh at road kill or handicapped children.

OK this one will be a short review, predominately because this is a compilation of Jhonen's Squee series, but still a definite must have for all Vasquez fans, if for no other reason than the reprint of the Meanwhiles (if you don't know what those are then you're lacking in your daily dosage of mind torture and desperately NEED this book)

I love it, its neurotic and it reflects parts of my childhood. It's funny but I dont recommend buying this for very young children just because its a comic book.

I bought this book because I liked it when I read it. I shouldn't really rate it less than a 5 because I knew what was going to be in it before my purchase.

If your a fan of the JTHM series or Jhonen Vasquez, this is another book to own. Based upon a child named "Squee" who lives next door to JTHM. Squee has a very traumatic childhood, but remains a loving yet constantly haunted little boy. Also "filled with meanwhiles", the book also expands on other various storylines seen throughout all of Vasquez' work.

I like Squee. I like Squee a lot. But, I have a problem with Squee. Squee is a precursor to Invader Zim, and even has some of the same characters in it (the moronic aliens, the evil elementary school teacher, etc.), and in Invader Zim these characters and jokes seem much more fleshed out and far more entertaining than in Squee's Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors.
I also have another problem with Squee. While Jhonen's previous work in JTHM was philosophical and thought-provoking (albeit, in a very messy way), Squee seems to have been created almost entirely for entertainment value. Also, in JTHM I had no problem laughing while Johnny brutally tortured and murdered people, because not only did Jhonen make it funny, but also much of the time the people (even if only in a small way) deserved it. In Squee, the audience is meant to laugh at a perfectly innocent little child going through "unspeakable horrors," which I simply have a more difficult time in doing. Don't get me wrong, Squee is funny, and disturbingly funny at that, but I think JTHM was much funnier while at the same time the audience has less guilt for actually laughing at the horrors he caused, as opposed to the horrors Squee goes through which are entirely out of his control. If this book only had the Squee comics, I would probably have given it a 3/5. It was funny, but not as funny JTHM or Invader Zim, and many of the jokes reappear in ZIM are actually funnier. (The moronic aliens were especially funny in Invader ZIM. They desperately tried to convince everyone their technology was supieror by "fusing" things together with duct tape). BUT, there is a saving grace for this book, which bumps it up a star. Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors contains random mini-comics (such as the Meanwhiles, Fillerbunny, Adventures of Wobbly Headed Bob, and so forth), many of which used to be in JTHM but were cut out of the "Director's Cut." These random comics are ridiculously funny, and I found far more entertainment in them than in the issues of Squee. Wobbly Headed Bob, in particular, makes me laugh hysterically in every strip. His comically oversized cranium amuses me, as does his pain because it is always caused by his own provocation, and despite his "superior" intelligence he always fails to realize this. The Meanwhiles, Fillers, and Happy Noodle Boy strips are also very entertaining, and these mini-strips will provide me with far more lasting value than Squee will (especially Wobbly Headed Bob). I still think Squee would be worth buying without all those extra mini-comics, but it is exactly those mini-comics which sets this collection over the edge and gives it its true value. I definitely recommend this book, but much more-so for the mini-comics than for the Squee issues. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-01 02:48:45 EST)

Jhonen Vasquez writes distubed comics...but they are so funny. 'Jhonny' fans will recognize Squee as Jhonny's poor little neighbor. 'Invader Zim' fans will recognize Squee's teacher, Ms.Bitters, as the slithering teacher in 'Zim' (This is where she got her start).
Tickle Me Hellmo gets me every time. I don't know why I find it so funny. Thsi book also has great features and extra filler comics at the end...this is all around a great series to own. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-01 02:48:45 EST)

Maybe I lost the Joke or maybe I was expecting another Invader Zim, I don't know, but this isn't as great as everybody make it sound like.
I wasn't able to laugh even once (and I love sadistic jokes about life and destine). I must say that Satan and his son are the best thing in the book (this and the meanwhiles) but Squee it self is not that funny. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-08-09 00:40:52 EST)

I felt a little let down by this book . . . I hate to say it but it's true. Jhonen Vasquez is a genious . . . There's no disputing that, but I thought the art was less inspired, less spontanious.
But the book did bring back the Meanwhiles, and Jhonen's biographical Meanwhiles are worth the price of the whole book in my opinion ( . . . "No sucky for you on this night!") Hilarious. Plus the book is full of Wobbly Headed Bob and Happy Noodle Boy, which I don't care for ( the writing is tedious to read). Otherwise, the book is a must have for any Jhonen fan. And that's why I bought it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-18 01:39:30 EST)

The dark humour and brilliance is once again seen in Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors. It brings a whole new perspective to monsters in a closet or voices in one's head, and Jhonen's added comments in the margins and cleverly inserted randomly in the drawings only bring a squeal of glee. In all seriousness, it is enthralling and hilarious (even if slightly sadistic), but don't be naive--it's not a children's book.

It is a fantastic comic book full of hidden messages within every page and created with a unique vision. This particular selection of stories was my inspiration as a kid to search for more work done by Jhonen Vasquez. Some tales are funny, others made like mini horror shows and most are simply intriguing. I highly recommend this book even if you're not into graphic art because you don't have to be a fanatic to enjoy it for what it's worth in entertainment. Forget Invader Zim, this is Old School good.

I am a huge Jhonen Vasquez fan (he is a comic creating and cartoonist god!)I am a JTHM fan (his best series, besides invader zim) So I just knew I had to read Squee, so I picked it up yesterday and finished it today and can say that it ROCKS! It stars Todd (AKA Squee) who was introduced to us in JTHM. yes it is short but it is worth reading, I mean the comic dosen't take up the whole book, like JTHM. But the second half of the book is filled to the brim with all kinds of comics that were never shown in JTHM the directors cut. It includes, of course, meanwhiles, more happy noodle boy stuff, Wobly headed bob, ect. Well I can say that Squee is not as good as JTHM but thats just my opinion, i still loved it. Plus its hilarious! I was laughing every 10 seconds. Okay since you got past my long review, I can congradulate you for making it this far without scrolling down the page and my last statement would be to buy this book! buy it or poor little Squee will die.

But it's still really good. Rather than following Johnny and his adventures, this book centers on Squee. From being abducted by aliens to fighting giant bugs, Squee really doesn't get a chance to rest. If JTHM was too dark for you, Squee would definitely be a good choice. You get Squee, and then after that, you get the infamous 'Meanwhiles' and 'Wobbly-Headed Bob' series. This comic is recommended to anyone with a dark sense of humor or any fan of Vasquez's other works. Pure genius.

This is the world of Johnen Vasquez, he makes fun of anything sane or normal in this world, here is another one of his disgusting but absolutely funny mini-series published by slave labour graphics.
This four issue mini-series is based around the character squee, who we last were introduced to in JTHM. He got his name squee from the sound he makes when he is scared. This kid is paranoid, scared of everything, intelligent, and a nice little boy compared to everyone else he is around. He lives with his parents who hate him and wish he would dissapear without a trace, he dreads his creapy granpa's next visit, his bedroom is haunted, and there's a wierd kid who's father is satan and his mother is a happy clappy christian lady. There is nothing normal in this book, but really twisted but insanely funny things in here. This book contains meanwhiles... which didn't appear in JTHM: Director's cut edition. I find this book much more funny than JTHM and more value for money is received here. This book is not for sensitive or eassily upset readers but is much more calmer than JTHM, reasons: There is not that much swearing, less violence (although pretty violent.), and shorter story line. The humour in this book is much more slick than the last book, it has funnier endings and funnier jokrs thrown into it. So, if you're looking for Vasquez work, start with JTHM and then this, you'll find the typical drawings of his style, and the twisted vulgar humour that is Jhonen Vasquez. A must have. Jhonen Vasquez, Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors (Slave Labor Graphics, 1998)
Vasquez, happily, was not satisfied to release one JTHM collection on the unsuspecting world, so we got a second. This one, as the title suggests, focuses on Squee, Johnny's next-door neighbor, and the kind of kid we all thought we were back then (though we really did have it better... most of the time). Squee, it seems has become quite the object of desire for aliens looking to abduct humans for all sorts of nasty experiments. (How he gets out of it really is every kid's fantasy.) That's the basic storyline, though as Vasquez points out in the introduction, there really isn't much of a storyline to this; these issues were more of an excuse to put Squee into really horrible, trauma-inducing situations. (And, for those jonesing for a Johnny fix, he does make a cameo towards the end, when Squee's parents... eh, that would be a spoiler.) Interestingly, the far looser storyline makes for a stronger overall book. This feels more like a comic book than a graphic novel; episodic, slapdash, ugly, never above going for the quick one-liner without worrying what repercussions it will have on the grander scheme of things. This is Vasquez at his most twisted, and the end result is a disturbing, sometimes terrifying look at the childhood neuroses that stay with us as adults, at least unless we get hundreds of hours of psychiatric treatment (and even then, they just get pushed into a dark corner somewhere, ready to spring out the first time aliens abduct you). If you're an Invader Zim fan who's never explored the darker side of Jhonen Vasquez, this is a great place to start. *** ý (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-05 01:30:30 EST)

This was by far the best book i have read in a long time. i just got it yesterday and i already finished it. Well anyways, Squee is a little boy who has the worst life ever. No matter how he tries to make things better, they get worse. He has a little stuffed animal friend named Schmee, and he's friends with Pepito, the antichrist. The part when he ate dinner at Pepito's house was hysterical. From the time i opened the package containing this marvel, to now, i haven't been able to put this book down.
The first half of the book is squee, which i already desribed. The second half is meanwhiles and other little small comics, two of which are about Jhonen himself. When i was reading Happy Noodle Boy people were staring at me because i was laughing like crazy. As reading this book though, i found myself utterly amazed. I haven't been able to get J.T.H.M. but i look forward to getting it. But as i was saying, this book is a must read if you like dark humor, inside jokes, and above all, dooky blood. I stumbled upon this in a bookstore by accident. Thankfully, I recognized the name Jhonen Vasquez from the funny as heck show Invader Zim. I was saddened to hear that the morons at Nickelodeon took it out of production. I was even more upset when I learned that Nick also owned the rights to all of the characters on the show! Boy am I glad that Squee and Johnny didn't make cameos' on Invader Zim; that would have been a black day indeed.
If you loved Invader Zim, then Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors will help fill the void left in your heart, and hopefully their will be more Jhonen Vasquez comics and cartoons in the future. No one else out there has his brand of subversive humor. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-03-13 02:33:32 EST)

Hi this is a GREAT book that anyone with a twisted head can enjoy! The first half of the book is Squee! who is a kid who doesn't really have friends, his parents hate him, and he always seems to witness horrible things. Such as his best friend getting attacked by a dog. The second half of the book is the Meanwhiles, which are smaller strips that are just as good. BUY IT!

You know, I know this is off the subject, but I have to come clean. I'm not really a fourty year old midget named Ricky, I'm a fourty-seven year old...um...person with a rather distasteful job....um...37 a night. I like to get it done fast. There's no nudity in it, but there is a LOT of swearing, and disturbing pictures...but it's REALLY REALLY funny. But...IT'S ALL SECRETS AND LIES ISNT IT!?! SECRETS AND LIIIIEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Jhonen Vasquez did not disappoint me when I decided to pick up "Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors." Just when I thought he couldn't top "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac," I read this and found myself laughing aloud like crazy. Dark, twisted, disturbing, and overwhelmingly hilarious, this comic collection is unforgettable and highly entertaining--even if you don't want to admit it!!
If you've read "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac," then you will be familiar with the cute little boy named, Squee. Squee is a kid who seems to have the worst luck in the world. His parents hate him and wish that he would someday vanish without a trace. All of the school kids hate him and torment him. To make matters worse, he has the most dreadful nightmares about monsters and aliens. He even meets these creatures when he isn't asleep. From running away from his cannibalistic grandpa to persuading the aliens to take his parents away instead of him, from battling the dreaded "Dustmites" to the threat of becoming a mindless zombie school student, Squee is destined to grow up having some serious "issues." The book also includes the comic strips "Wobbly Headed Bob," "Fun with Filler (aww, look at the cuuute little bunny rabbit doing his filler dance!!),"Happy Noodle Boy," and the "Meanwhile" strips that were very much absent from "JTHM: The Director's Cut." While I think "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac" is Jhonen's most creative and disturbing work, I found "Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors" to be much more entertaining and hilarious. There were many times where I was laughing very loudly as I was reading this. It's so funny that so many horrible things can happen to such a cute little character. It makes you feel guilty for laughing... but that quickly goes away and then you laugh some more--and in an even more demonic and unrelenting tone! The drawings are great and the characters are extremely humorous. Another cool thing is that Jhonen LOVES to throw in hidden messages and jokes within certain panels, so be on the lookout for them. Another reason to read this more than once. Again, this is not intended for younger readers. While I found this much more easier to take than "JTHM," it's still very twisted, dark, disturbing and graphic. There are some very dark themes and imagery in this collection of comics, so it's not intended for those who easily get offended or disturbed. And, you must keep in mind that this book is here strictly for entertainment purposes only and is not to be taken seriously. Jhonen loves to poke fun at everything wrong in society--and even at his own work! If you want to read something very twisted, deranged, and hilarious, "Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors" is just the thing for you. Again, it's nothing for the easily offended. Even though it's a pretty short read, I found this to be one heck of an entertaining read and it's something I'll be sure to read a number of times in the very near future. Another slam-dunk for Vasquez and his sick and warped sense of humor! -Michael Crane (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-11-20 04:41:58 EST)

A spin off of Jhonen Vasquez' Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee is non-stop hilarious from beginning to end. First featured in the pages of JtHM, his neighbor Squee has his share of very bad luck. His parents hate him, he has encounters with aliens, he's picked on in school, and he's invited for dinner by another kid named Pepito with horns on his head and has the devil for a father. There's all this and tons more to be had as Vasquez displays the same type of twisted humor that made JtHM so popular. I actually like Squee more than I did JtHM; you can't help but feel sorry for the kid while your laughing like an idiot at his plight. Also included are meanwhiles which include tales involving alien abduction experimentation, big headed vampires, a hilarious take on Tickle Me Elmo, and a tale starring Vasquez in which he gleefully pokes fun at himself.

Very funny material, introspective. I read Squee first not expecting too much and liked it a lot, then later picked up a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and felt like I wasted my time with it. So liking this doesn't mean you'll enjoy Johnny or the other works.

Ok, so you do have to have a very dark sense of humour to appreciate this book. But you probably do, if you're looking at this review in the first place.
Also, you probably came to Squee after reading Johnny the Homicide Maniac, where Squee was just a very minor character. And well... guess the great news! This is four times better than Johnny! Gone are the neurotic border decorations, the overly self-indulging monologues, the teen angst and the suspiciously well-rendered psychotic scenarios. This is just extra-dark fun, with riotous scenarios (hey, who's so unlucky to be abducted not by one, but two alien killers in the same night? The same day he learned that his desk-pal at schook is the son of Satan?) and clearer art. The only negative comment: yes, that damn stick-noodle boy or whatever it's called is still in somewhere. Oh well. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-11-20 04:42:02 EST)

I enjoyed Jhonen Vasquez' "I Feel Sick" mini-series, so when I saw the Squee trade-paperback, I picked it up, not knowing what to expect...
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be one of the best Comics I've ever read, but that's just what it was. The first half of the book is comprised of Squee stories- Squee is a little boy whose parents have no use for him; he is pursued by Aliens & Monsters, pushed around by bullies, and his only friend is the new kid at school....who just happens to be the Son of The Devil... I had no problem immediately falling in love with little Squee- He's so CUTE! (And who wouldn't identify with the childhood fear of waking up facing the wall.....with your back exposed to potential monster-attack!) The other half of the book is comprised of short strips from Vasquez' Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comic. The "Meanwhile" strips are worth the purchase price alone. My favorite concerns a man on a first date who finds his stomach-ache turning into unexpected....Diarrhea. The way he attempts to explain this had me laughing for about 10 solid minutes. This book has made me a Jhonen Vasquez fan for life, and I hope that I can get some other people to give this incredibly gifted creator a try. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-11-20 04:42:03 EST)

I'm one of those people who kinda prefers Johnny to Squee, but I still must say this statement:
BUY THIS! Well, with that said, let me explain. It should be fairly obvious just from the cover that this isn't your father's comic book. The styles are so abstract and twisted, you just have to read it over and over again to absorb it all. And it all follows the sad, sad misadventures of a very unlucky little boy, Todd. (Known as Squee, of course) Squee's closest friends include a homicidal maniac and the son of the devil. He doesn't get much love from his parents either. All this leads to is a series of horrifically funny scenerios that pit poor Squee with the types of things we fear. But we laugh. And laugh. And laugh. Another reason to get this: Meanwhiles. Actually, I wasn't paticularly fond of these, but they seem to be wildly popular so I thought I'd bring them up. These include Filler Bunny, one of Devi's less successful dates, Happy Noodle Boy, and Wobbly Headed Bob. So if you love Johnny or Invader Zim, you'll like this too. Buy Johnny and Squee today! If you're deciding to get this book, don't wait. GET IT. THis book is will blow you away--amazing storyline, developed and dimensional characters, superb detailed art---you don't need to worry, it's all here and 100x more worthy than you'd ever expect. Squee is a cute little boy who has the unfortunate luck to always bump into homicidal slayings, aliens, blood, gore, animal mutilation, etc--all of which traumatize him to such a degree where his eyes are permanently frozen wide. Altho this sounds gory, you will just FALL IN LOVE with squee b/c of his innocence and pure adorableness. You will LAUGH, sympathizing with Squee b/c you too, were once a child, and you too, were scared of monsters and murderers hiding under your bed... sleeping against the wall to maintain a "forcefield"... only with Squee--it's REAL! now can you just imagine what crazy adventures come next? Also included in this book are a series of strips called "wobbly headed bob" which is just genius! Intellectually brilliant and insightful it will just amaze you to no end. The author, Jhonen Vasquez, is a brooding genius with skyrocketing IQ and untamed imagination that is boundless. Ever meet anyone like that? No? well then, read SQUEE, what are you waiting for?

Squee, we saw him at the beginning, now see him at the end. After being featured several times in Jhonny the homicidal maniac, Squee finnaly gets his own series. Squee is flat out hillarious! The comic peers into the life of a corrupted boy whos life seems to be cursed. An ignored soul whos only friends are his bear shmee and the scary neighbor man(Jhonny, who makes a cameo)the rest just die shortly after being in contact with him. My favorite part of the book however was the true tales of human drama and the meanwhiles. These in betweeners are collected in all their knee-splapping humor. You'll close this book with a smile, i guarantee it.

Squee is a child who lives a tortured life filled with school bullies, overbearing teachers, alien abductions, a psychotic and murderous next-door neighbor who makes occasional visits, and parents who wish that he never existed... and tell him so at every opportunity. His only friends are his teddy bear- who "tells" him to kill or maim those who hate him- and the Anti-Christ himself, who happens to be a fellow classmate at Squee's school.
Squee has the misfortune of invariably being at the wrong place at the wrong time- every time. But, here's the sick part... the worse his misfortune is, the more I laugh at it. I guess I'm just an insensitive lout, but I just can't help it. The Squee trade paperback contains a lot of sick and disturbing moments, and I've laughed like a maniac at just about every single one of them. The 'Dooky-blood is after me!' scene had me rollin' in the aisles so hard that there were those who were wondering what the hell was the matter with me. Also notable about this collection is the theme of kids getting traumatized in every way, shape, and form one could imagine. From brainwashing, to getting blown up or mangled, to neglect, it gets covered one way or another in this book. And I find every one of them to be very entertaining. The many scenes of torture and pain are so unbelievably over-the-top that I can't help but laugh at the grotesque misfortunes of others. The "Tickle Me Hellmo" comic near the end of the book is a virtual smorgasbord of kiddie trauma, and is one of the high points of this comic collection. I find this to be the best work by the artist and writer Jhonen Vasquez. Although most would consider his 'Johnny The Homicidal Maniac' comic series to be his magnum opus, I was a lot more entertained by his efforts with Squee. Also, Vasquez's artwork is more refined, and he seems more comfortable with his story telling and artistic style. But even though I found Squee to be a suprior effort, I do recommend that you read 'Johnny T.H.M.' as well... that's where Squee originated, after all. Squee is my 2nd favorite non-manga comic! My first one was Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (also created by Jhonen Vasquez) which has quite alot to do with the Squee comics. Squee is one of the most twisted and hilarious comics I have ever read! Jhonen Vasquez is a genius! The comedy in Squee is alot less psychological (i guess)and has alot less dialogue than in JtHM. Plus, in this book, it includes the "meanwhiles" that were excluded from the JtHM book! Plus some more Happy Noodle Boys. If you need a good laugh, try reading this book (try JtHM too)!

Vasquez is a master of writing about the odd stuff no one wants to talk about. He pushes the envelope of good taste, but makes it very humorous.

Jhonen Vasquez' sick little mind has produced a wonderful big giant book of unspeakable horrors, indeed! Squee, so-named for the sound he makes when he is frightened (which is a very, very common occurance), is the central character in this much-anticipated 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac' spin-off. This book has a more subdued tone than its predecessor, but its ending is just as grim, although not nearly as expected as 'JTHM.' Still, do not let that deter you! There are plenty of treats such as Jhonen's commentaries, lots of the previously-uncollected "Meanwhile" vignettes that ran in both 'Squee' and 'JTHM'(such as "Tickle-me Hellmo" and "Crossing Gods"), and, of course, a new illustration on the back cover! Buy 'Squee"...you know you want to *mu-hahahaha!*

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't believe that some little cartoon character feels exactly like how I did about dreams, the dark, and scary things. I laughed out loud. Glad to know some else had to sleep "with their back against the wall". PRETTY NEAT- O!!!

This book is extremely funny. This is coming from a person mainly lifeless and dull who normally doesn't read comic books. It's good. READ IT!
