| The China Study : The Most Compreshensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Referred to as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology" by The New York Times, this study examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys from 6,500 adults in more than 2,500 counties across China and Taiwan, and conclusively demonstrates the link between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these ailments as well as curbing obesity, this text calls into question the practices of many of the current dietary programs, such as the Atkins diet, that are widely popular in the West. The politics of nutrition and the impact of special interest groups in the creation and dissemination of public information are also discussed.

The impact of this book literally changed my life, my family's life and hopefully many others I am able to pass this information along to. As a health care provider, an avid reader and someone who used to think I was making great choices, I now have a much deeper understanding of nutritional value and the true impact diet has on our entire well being. The author has compiled and heavily contributed to one of the most comprehensive all-encompassing, indisputable realm of facts on the "foods" we eat that I have seen to date. Don't think you've already heard it! This is NOT a "diet" book! This is a book of truths and if you have any interest what so ever in living healthy, long and happy and seeing those around you experience the same, then read this book! I started making changes in my eating habits at the first chapter and just a few weeks later, I can't tell you how much better I feel, mentally and physically. Let the China Study show you the repeated scientific evidence of HOW, WHAT and WHY the foods you eat do what they do to/for the human body, then make your own choices! Don't let genetics and/or commonality of diease process, i.e., heart disease, diabetes, cancers, etc. lead you to believe this is simply your hand in life! You truly need to have this knowledge to understand that you can have control over your health and happiness. Blessings in Great Health!

In the beginning of the book it appears that Campbell is going to give specific scientific findings of a study done in China that would confirm the connection of animal protein diet with cancer. He starts with studies of rodents that showed 100% statistical connection. It was expected that the same type of information would ensue, but it didn't.
As the above review by Joseph DeMarinis "Truth in science" so decidedly outlines, Campbell goes mostly into broad statements taken from the dogma of vegetarianism. I got this book after taking the caregivers course at the Gerson Institute in San Diego where Dr. Max Gerson proved that a 100% vegetarian diet with juicing and techniques to pull out toxins cures cancer-- even advanced cancer after conventional medical techniques have failed. The Gerson diet stops tumor growth and completely invigorates the immune system to curing many other twentieth century diseases. It follows that a diet mostly of vegetables and fruits would be beneficial for preventing disease. This book did not come close to my expectations and is not recommended. One final point for the readers of this concerns the insistance that a 100% vegan diet cures heart disease. In the book by Internationally acclaimed Cardiologist, Dr. Sodi Pallares, "My Hearts Health", Dr. Pallares states that after he observed thousands of patients on his vegetable and fruit diet that he found they did better with some good fats (2 tbls per day) and some protein. He lived to age 90 on that diet. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-05 00:34:00 EST)

This is one of the most powerful books on modern diet and disease ever written. It should be a must read for all health careers students.
Clear, concise. A real hard look at traditional mantras on human protein consumption. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-05 00:34:00 EST)

A friend of mine recommended this book and I can't thank him enough! I have read it cover to cover and so has my husband. We bought 5 copies and have been lending them to friends to read.
My husband and I had already been vegetarians and we knew all the health benefits of this lifestyle. The information confirmed all of our reasons and also convinced us to cut out dairy as well. The book is well organized and written in a way that can be easily understood. The research is well documented and the graphs and charts are very detailed and informative. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in their health to read this book! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 01:14:33 EST)

I am a Asian-American (Japanese specifically), I was born and raised in Hawaii and moved to the California when I was 27 years old. I grew up eating meat and enjoyed that until a few months ago. I have always had high cholesterol (in the 220-240 range) and I thought it was genetic. I was into the low-carb, higher protein diet the last few years, probably because it justified eating a lot of meat, which I loved. A few months ago I had some blood work done and I had a total cholesterol of 259, worse a LDL "bad" cholesterol of 164. About this time a friend at work recommended this book, I ordered it and read it. Took everything with a grain of salt but remembered some studies in the 1970s that he referred to about Japanese Americans in Hawaii and California having typical health issues that their Japanese counterparts did not. I gave up most of the red meat and dairy for about three months, ate mostly a vegan diet with some poultry and a little more fish, mostly sushi. After only three months my recent results were total cholesterol of 190, LDL of 104, my doctor went from very concerned and recommending cholesterol reducing drugs to unconcerned. It may not be for everyone but I am convinced that this may have prolonged my life to enjoy with my young children.

THE CHINA STUDY IS JUST SO OUTSTANDING! IT WILL ABSOLUTLEY CHANGE YOUR LIFE! YOU MAY REMEMBER THE MOVIE IN WHICH INDIANA JONES HAD TO CHOOSE, FROM MANY CUPS, THE ONE THAT WAS THE TRUE "HOLY GRAIL". OF COURSE, HE CHOSE WISELY. AS YOU STAND IN YOUR LOCAL BOOK STORE OR LIBRARY TRYING TO CHOOSE FROM HUNDREDS OF BOOKS OFFERING HEALTH AND DIET INFORMATIOM, YOU ALSO WILL HAVE CHOSEN WISELY IF YOU PICK "THE CHINA STUDY". I WOULD ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMEND "THE FOOD REVOLUTION" BY JOHN ROBBINS. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SET THESE BOOKS DOWN!

This book has two themes: Food choices can create a healthier body, and there's a bunch of folks that have vested interest in keeping us from knowing this truth.
It is evident that man has survived by being a scavenger, but this study suggests that some diets are better at promoting a healthy body beyond mere survival. If you need more verification of the health benefits of a plant-based diet beyond this study, look at the world-class athletes that are vegetarian. How do you suppose they build muscle, bone, excellent health, and win at their sport? While the study helped verify what many have proven by using their own bodies as laboratory, the inside information about the food/drug cartels and their government enablers is an important bonus. We are never going to have good health in this country as long as these folks reign supreme with their vested interest of promoting their view of health information, and healthcare is seen as a commodity. The book exposes the dumbing down of our people with the misinformation of the powerful that undermines the quality of our health and lives. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 01:14:33 EST)

Dr. Campbell has brilliantly brought the higher world of nutrition and biology into a most readable format, presenting the most astounding findings. Good nutrition as the foundation for health is now without question, but treating cancer with nutritional therapies?? Let's see where we can go from here!

This book will blow you away! I was shocked at what I thought was healthy to eat but isn't. Very eye opening. The person who wrote the negative review and directed you to this website http://www.westonaprice.org/bookreviews/chinastudy.html.
Does not have a brain. The credentials of the person who wrote this Anti-China Study article has a BS degree in History. I Don't think I am going to listen to him over a doctor who has spent most of his life researching this data. Be careful which reviews you read and who is writing them. The China Study is very scientific and trustworthy. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 01:14:33 EST)

I am a big proponent of consuming a phytonutrient dense diet and organic, unprocessed foods whenever possible but it is important to realize that the author is an ardent activist with PETA and is more concerned about promoting his vegan political cause than the actual facts. If you want to see the "rest of the story" that was conveniently left out of this book I strongly suggest loking at the information here, http://www.westonaprice.org/bookreviews/chinastudy.html.

I purchased this and Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn - two books closely related / companions in my opinion. They even talk about each other. Some of this book is a little in-depth for the person who is not interested in scientific studies, but the authors do a pretty good job of putting it all in plain english. This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about how nutrition relates to food and disease. It is also a great book for learning about the shortfalls of the medical system in America and the politics behind medicine and the food industries. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED reading for anyone who wishes to be in-the-know.
I also appreciate the viewpoint of food and thousands of chemicals in food interacting together to produce good or bad health, as opposed to many other books and studies which take a more isolated approach, such as studying vitamin C and only vitamin C, for example, This book takes a more wholistic approach - meaning that the entire food must be considered in how all things interact, and not just one single element of nutrition alone. This book was recommended to me by a friend. It took me a while to get the book...and a few months before I got to it. Once I started reading it, I was on fire...and telling anyone who would listen. Every human being should be able to read this book. Dr. Campbell lays out the research in understandable terms...and it is shocking to read. It proves to me that we must be in charge of our own health...and that means eating healthy...and vegetarian. This information can truly save lives.

Very well presented research that matches what I've seen traveling around the world. It also matches what I see with immigrant families and the changes that occur when some adopt the american diet. The western diet needs to change. After reading this book, it was very easy to give up my animal-based diet. Of course, eating out is a challenge, but I'm learning. :-) I'm losing weight and feeling great.

Barry Sears' books are based on these same principles and they are very accessible and written (except for one) for the lay person. If you really want to get into the science behind the nutritional advice, read his book: Enter the Zone, A Dietary Road Map to Lose Weight Permanently, Reset Your Genetic Code, Prevent Disease, Achieve Masximum Physical Performance and Enhance Mental Productivity. The easy reads are the shorter titles such as A Week in the Zone. You don't need to slog through a 400+ page book.

Wow, how refreshing to find an author who is a genuine authority, who supports his conclusions with fact and who lacks the bias that drives many writers on this subject to deceive and mislead, most doctors to remain ignorant of and uninterested in the relationship between health and nutrition and most of the food industry and medical profession too busy making money to care. This book deals with science, not politics. I read it five weeks ago and was so motivated by it I altered my diet to whole foods only. My blood pressure has improved from borderline hypertensive to 106/67 and I feel trimmer and fitter already. I've purchased the book for my children so they have some basis for questioning conventional advice on this important subject.

The China Study is a large survey of health and nutrition habits that the author concludes support a vegan diet. The book discusses the China Study and the author's conclusions. The Study used surveys from 6,500 adults in China and Taiwan to analyze over 350 variables relating health and nutrition. The China Study looked specifically at the relationship between diet and disease in over 100 villages all over China. It compared the rates of disease and how they differed between regions and looked for dietary habits that could account for those differences. The author uses the data on what he sees as nutrition's impact on disease and concludes that a vegan diet promotes good health and longevity.
A strong emphasis of the book is the way research on nutrition is conducted - he calls it "scientific reductionism". His complaint is that particular nutrients or food groups are isolated to determine their effects and all other influences are ruled out. Even though this is how research is done, and Dr. Campbell specifically looks at the impact of nutrition on health, he does not think we can accurately study single nutrients. In fact, he does not think information on nutrition is accurately obtained, reported, and utilized in the West. He also thinks the western diet is terrible including many of the popular diets such as the Atkins diet or any diet that emphasizes animal products. The book provides recommendations for changing your eating habits, and suggests that poor health and diseases can be reversed or improved by changing your diet. If you are a proponent of veganism, you will certainly enjoy the book and learn from it. If you are on the fence about veganism, it may sway you. If you would not appreciate eating a vegan diet, you may take offense at the author's criticism of non-vegan eating. Regardless of your perspective, you will appreciate the substantial amount of work that was put into this book. The passion and conviction of the author come through as this book is clearly designed to help others. The book's contents include: Introduction Part I: The China Study: 1. Problems We Face, Solutions We Need; 2. A House of Proteins; 3. Tuning Off Cancer; 4. Lessons from China. Part II: Diseases of Affluence: 5. Broken Hearts; 6. Obesity; 7. Diabetes; 8. Common Cancers: Breast, Prostate, Large Bowel (Colon, Rectal); 9. Autoimmune Diseases; 10. Wide-Ranging Effects: Bone, Kidney, Eye and Brain Diseases; Part III: The Good Nutrition Guide; 11. Eating Right: Eight Principles of Food and Health; 12. How to Eat. Part IV: Why Haven't You Heard This Before? 13. Science--The Dark Side; 14. Scientific Reductionism; 15. The "Science" of Industry; 16. Government: Is It for the People? 17. Big Medicine: Whose Health Are They Protecting? 18. Repeating Histories. Appendix A. Q&A: Protein Effect in Experimental Rat Studies. Appendix B. Experimental Design of the China Study. Appendix C. The "Vitamin" D Connection. References. Index. I also recommend THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams and The 2007 Second Expert Report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-25 01:14:50 EST)

This book is one of these books that each page makes your jaw drop. Despite overwhelming evidence, it is amazing that this has not taken a bigger stage with the public. I guess we love our high animal protein diets too much. For those of you who have health problems, take heed to the words inside this book.

Before I review the book, a little history of me here:
When I was a chubby girl in college I tried many kinds of diet to lose weight, and one of them was a "healthier" form of Atkins diet, called the South Beach diet. I read from a Women's Health magazine that it's effective and nutritious. At the time, I did not have any knowledge of nutrition, and unfortunately I had followed the diet thinking that it's healthy. Of course, I gained weight soon after unable to keeping up with the diet and failed miserably. I was sick all the time also and didn't know why. I had many health problems and was on a variety of different prescription drugs that my doctor urged me to take. Many years later, I decided to become a pure vegetarian not only because of health but because of realization of my diet's impact on the environment and animal welfare, thanks to several documentaries called Baraka & Earthlings. When I became a vegetarian I lost weight almost effortlessly, and as I gradually dropped dairy and egg products from my diet I lost even more weight - the weight that I had worked so hard to lose but failed to as a non-vegetarian! I am now healthier than ever, never get sick, and feel so much better overall, all without depending on unnecessary drugs and doctor visits. Even so, after I read this important book - the largest research conducted on correlation between nutrition and health - I was extremely shocked at this fascinating study. Now, I cannot stop talking about the book with everyone that I care about. Everyone who is interested in their health effects of consuming animal products should read this very important book. According to the study, cancer, heart diseases, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol - all of these modern diseases can be prevented and even reversed by whole food, plant-based diet! I am now a firm believer of this, as I watched my family members suffer greatly (i.e. cancer, osteoporosis, etc.) due to their animal-based diets. Everything became so clear to me. Now, my whole family follow a more plant-based diet than ever. My sister, my boyfriend, and even my mom - follow a vegetarian diet and have improved their health greatly. Everything makes sense to me. There are so much misinformation out there regarding diet and health, that public can be easily confused about what and how one should eat, like I was. As a vegan who was once a heavy meat-eater, I hope more people can realize the truth and obtain better health, as well as helping to restore our environment, and end unnecessary suffering of animals. This book is a refreshing change from the glut of fad diet books. It is very readable, yet takes a serious and scientific look at what we eat and the resulting health problems. The core of the book is about a 20 year study, in China, sponsored by NIH and the governement of China. Be prepared to have a paradigm shift in your concepts of healthy eating.

I just completed The China Study and I feel it was a very interesting, informative read. It's kind of a scientific thriller as in what else will our good scientist T. Colin Campbell reveal?
The end of the book was the most interesting to me...how the establishment ignores easy, inexpensive ways to heal disease thru diet, how doctors who espouse nutritional therapy are rejected and how industry and government are intertwined and, as a result, the public is left ignorant on how they can easily and simply heal themselves. One thing to think about: I am sure many who read this book want nationalized health care. I am not sure that would be a good thing at the moment with a government that is unable to give us the information we need right NOW. It is addicted to costly procedures and drugs making everything more complex, painful and expensive. In fact, people are DYING from our conventional medicare...one of the biggest killers of Americans. Do we really want to hand over the reigns of our healthcare (and money) to a government that is unable to act in our own self-interest? If we did, our money would be wasted in furthering the pharmaceutical and medical industries at the expense of our health. I don't think it's a good idea unless it can be cleaned up and the motives clean. I'd rather give my healthcare dollars to people and institutions that espouse the truth...something the government is incapable of. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-30 00:46:02 EST)

I am a practicing optometrist in O'Fallon missouri and I work with alot of patients of all different classes. Many of them are way overweight and in poor health at an early age (50's-60's and I just know that the reason is because of poor eating habits and lack of exercise. The China Study really helps to emphasize the importance of good everyday eating and what the consequenses will be if one does not follow a good everyday diet. I'm lucky enough to enjoy good health everyday and I hope I can pass on to my patients information about this book to make a better world.

"China Study" gave me extremely important and necessary information about nutrition. It explained clearly and logically the link between nutrition and certain diseases. It also explained the way scientific studies are designed, and how science is often influenced by politics, which affects the set up of the experiments, as well as published results. To me, this book proved to be invaluable guide in creating a healthy diet for me and my family.

I found the China Study so convincing I have eliminated meat/animal products from my diet. Two months ago I would have never guessed I'd take on the vegan lifestyle to promote optimum health. I encourage everyone to read this study, visit the facts and incorporate changes to their eating habits.

I heard about this book when reading, "A Cancer Therapy". I originally checked it out from my local library, but found that there was so much information, it needed to be added to my home reference library. The science listed in this book is absolutely compelling and life changing! I have been doing research into the link between animal based products, namely meat and dairy, and disease and this book really spelled it out using scientific data and detailing years worth of experiments documenting the relationship between the two. This book is a MUST read for anyone. It has literally changed my life! We have changed the way we eat so that we could live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy this life to the fullest. What's the point of living a long life if you're sick, in pain, or fighting a disease? I want to live to be a healthy great-grandmother. I also feel a responsibility as a mother and a wife to feed my family the best way I know how. I am hoping with the information I have learned in this book, as well as others, I can train my small children in healthy eating habits and possibly prevent them from battling disease or cancer in the future. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK !!!!!!

This book presents a world of scientific information relating to diet and health in a clear and understandable manner. Although the concepts are not mainstream, the scientific support for the author's position is compelling. I have seen marked changes in my weight and health since adopting many of the guidelines suggested in this book.

Dr Campbell has a general disregard for the medical profession which is somewhat pervasive in his story. There are several scientific elements missing from the studies, however, he presents in a pretty clear manner a huge scandal in America - Go figure, it's all about money after all! The study in China is a refreshing look into the reality of living the easy life and the diseases and cancers we bring on ourselves as a result. Fascinating reading!

In this book, T. Colin Campbell asserts that consumption of animal protein leads to heart disease and cancer, and suggests that going vegetarian can actually reverse heart disease and arrest the growth of cancer (and that old age need not be the ordeal that it usually is in America today). He refers to the China Study, an extensive study of dietary patterns across various regions of China. He claims that the study found that those who consume less animal protein get fewer "diseases of affluence" such as heart disease and cancer.
The author also hypothesizes that consuming animal protein, including dairy products, can lead to autoimmune diseases, kidney stones (shudder!), diabetes, blindness, and other conditions. Campbell asserts that science in this country is strongly influenced by industries that sell food products containing animal protein, and also asserts that American medicine attempts to treat diseases with drugs and surgery rather than with better nutrition. However, there are many who question the findings in the book, and even most Eastern diets contain at least some meat. While Americans as a whole do eat too much meat, and this book is a good warning to cut back on meat consumption to an extent, one might be wary about entirely eliminating it from your diet. This 417 page book discusses the China Study, which examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition using surveys from 6,500 adults in China and Taiwan. This investigation shows a strong link between good nutrition and avoiding or reversing obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The author, Dr. Colin Campbell, concludes that a plant-based vegan diet is the best strategy for health and longevity. (Note that while the Chinese diet is lower in meat and dairy than the Western diet, it is not vegetarian.) Dr. Campbell is a strong critic of the western diet, the Atkins diet, and diets that emphasize animal products. He also criticizes the way nutritional information is obtained, disseminated, and put into practice in the west. In fact, Campbell makes the point that nutrition research and studies often isolate certain nutrients or food groups in order to determine their effects. (Isolating something in order to study it is a necessary "evil" of the research process, which may cause tainted or biased results.) Dr. Campbell, on the other hand, focuses on the effects of nutrition (as a whole) on health without a strong emphasis on other factors that may affect health such as hygiene, air and water pollution, exposure to environmental toxins and chemicals, exercise, etc.
The author has strong and convincing beliefs about nutrition and its benefits to our health and draws upon the China Study research to support his thesis. He is clearly sincere about wanting to help people improve their quality of life and provides concrete suggestions to help the reader change poor eating habits into good ones. His ideas include that heart disease can be reversed by diet, breast cancer is affected by hormones in the blood which are determined by what we eat, dairy products increase prostate cancer risk, antioxidants in fruits and vegetables positively affect mental function in old age, Type 1 diabetes is linked to infant feeding practices, and casein protein from cow's milk is cancer-promoting while proteins from plants including wheat and soy are not. The contents include: Introduction Part I: The China Study 1. Problems We Face, Solutions We Need 2. A House of Proteins 3. Tuning Off Cancer 4. Lessons from China Part II: Diseases of Affluence 5. Broken Hearts 6. Obesity 7. Diabetes 8. Common Cancers: Breast, Prostate, Large Bowel (Colon, Rectal) 9. Autoimmune Diseases 10. Wide-Ranging Effects: Bone, Kidney, Eye and Brain Diseases Part III: The Good Nutrition Guide 11. Eating Right: Eight Principles of Food and Health 12. How to Eat Part IV: Why Haven't You Heard This Before? 13. Science--The Dark Side 14. Scientific Reductionism 15. The "Science" of Industry 16. Government: Is It for the People? 17. Big Medicine: Whose Health Are They Protecting? 18. Repeating Histories Appendix A. Q&A: Protein Effect in Experimental Rat Studies Appendix B. Experimental Design of the China Study Appendix C. The "Vitamin" D Connection References Index The China Study is an impressively large survey of health and nutrition habits that the author concludes support a vegan diet. The book is an extraordinary work by a researcher who passionately believes in a vegetarian diet and wants to help people live healthfully. Most people would find it interesting. One important message that can be drawn from this work is that what we consume affects our health. I certainly agree with his suggestions to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, and to limit animal products! The China Study is indeed the most comprehensive book on nutrition, health, diseases and well being. Not only is the book informative and educational, it is written in a way that every reader can easily understand the content.
I am particularly impressed with the explanations about the diseases; it is medical knowledge made easy. I have recommended the book to many friends and relatives and have sent copies to my sons. After reading the book, I have started a process to gear my diet to a plant-based diet. Campbell's bold remarks on government, industry and even the health organizations should be publicized for all people to become aware of the reality. I breastfed my daughter (who has type 1 diabetes) from birth to age 2 (yes, TWO) and she was VEGAN, eating ONLY ORGANIC food until she was about 10, so the author's unfounded and unproved and just plain WRONG idea that cow's milk causes type-1 diabetes makes the entire book worthless to me. Sure, we all know by now that diet is important to health, but people who assume they know it all is a sure sign that I want nothing to do with it.

I got this book as a gift and then I gave it to someone as a gift. It made me think about what I am eating. As a result of the information, not marketing hype, I have made changes to my eating habits. I feel healthier and have lost weight. It is a very good book for those who want to improve their health through food.

This book was suggested to me as a way I might start thinking of re-evaluating my diet. I was convicted by the research and conclusions and have DEFINITELY re adjusted my diet to minimize the food groups mentioned.
I have passed the book on to 2 people and they too are very interested in its conclusions! I highly recommend it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 00:57:57 EST)

Do your research before accepting this as proof that a Vegan diet is the solution. After chapters touting his credentials, Campbell glazed over his research to try and prove that a Vegan lifestyle is the most healthy. Many of you may know unhealthy Vegans and like me find a conclusion that Vegan is the most healthy diet hard to believe at face value. So I did a review of those reviews that gave this book 1 star. C. R. Moulis "Christina Moulis" thankfully went through some effort to review the real research. Read her review.
I give this two stars because of the research and thought it has sparked me to do since I read it. And I applaud any Doctor who is willing to research Nutrition and try and identify what is "healthy". However we unfortunately live in a world of advertising and I feel that this book is more of an advertisement than giving the whole story. He mentions a study using rats and animal protein, or casein (milk protein). But we never know if these were powders or raw milk from healthy animals. Or if the animal protein talked about is from a plant grazing animal or one that is fed in a feed lot with the cheapest food available. After reading,Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats I felt enlightened. The notions and diet suggestions make sense. If we lived in a culture that still raised our own dairy (raw) and meat, we could be more healthy. And we would probably reduce the intake of meat because of the difficulty and unpleasant job of butchering and cleaning. However, most Americans are not able to live this way. And many must be careful because of the number of individuals with dairy allergies. But I can't accept that God didn't intend for us to eat cheese, yogurt, and even ice cream. I'm not suggesting an abundant consumption but in moderation it is just a food that can't be evil due to the pleasure it provides our palate. For the summer months when one can plant a garden and eat fresh without spending a fortune I have no doubt that a Raw Food Diet would be ideal. Living on Live Food But in winter when fruits and vegetables are in short supply we need to augment our diet in order to sustain good health. The Food You Crave: Luscious Recipes for a Healthy Life However I do believe that more research will soon find that high animal protein diets are not healthy, they just don't make much sense. Even Whey and Soy Protein powders just don't seem right. Humans were not created to drink powder. I feel like a pirate on Davy Jones' crew when my food is turned to powder. Eating that way just is not pleasant, food was created to satisfy and fulfill our natural cravings. But in order for the cravings to be more natural you must detoxify. I look forward to the day when we can get the real story, that is not tainted by lobbyists and propaganda. When Nutrition, Health and Medicine can congeal together so we can have a healthier society. For now I will continue to search and use my own gut instincts to help me find truths from falsehoods. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 00:57:57 EST)
