(Hide Review...)  An overall Nora Experience

I'm not sure what to say about this book, it's definitely Nora Roberts but didn't read like a traditional Nora Romance. The story is based around a former child star named Cila who is trying to come to grips with her new life and leave her old one behind. A romance forms between Cila and Ford. Ford is the nice guy next door type who can be a bit annoying at times. So we have the quintessential free spirit and the puppet falling in love. I can't say there was anything I would point my finger at that I didn't like (I gave it 4-stars) It's just the overall Nora experience wasn't there. But I would vote for Spock as best supporting actor (those who read it know what I mean)

Editor of the highly recommended novel: Fates by Georgiou, Tino Fates (2nd Edition)

Cilla McGowan spent her childhood pretending to be someone she was not. She was a child star in a long running family television show. When the show was cancelled, she picked up other acting jobs, did a few CD's and cameo appearances, but it didn't take Cilla long to realize her acting career was over. With more relief than regret, Cilla tried several alternative careers until she hit upon the one that made her whole. She purchased rundown and forgotten houses, renovated them, and then sold them. She turned the neglected house back into a home.

The one house that Cilla wanted to renovate and turn back into a home was her grandmother's hideaway in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Janet Hardy was a Hollywood legend. She died by her own hand spending her final days at the farm.

When her mother, a failed wannabe actress, needed money for her latest production, Cilla talked her into selling the Shenandoah farm to her. Cilla needed to come to terms with the past before she could truly look to the future. Renovating her grandmother's home would do it.

While cleaning out the attic, Cilla came across a bundle of love letters kept by her grandmother. Janet had a lover the final year of her life, and the relationship did not end well. Did she really commit suicide or did the Grim Reaper have a little help?

Cilla was not the only one that knew the letters existed. The work site was repeatedly vandalized, workers and friends hurt, and hateful reminders of her years as an actress kept popping up. Cilla would not be intimidated. With her neighbor Ford at her side, they faced the demons of the past and the demons of the present. Cilla came to Shenandoah with plenty of baggage, but in dealing with her problems, she gains both strength and resiliency.

Tribute is both a romance and a suspense. Nora Roberts does a wonderful job of combining the two. It is a wonderful book full of unforgettable characters and a great story line. It's a lengthy novel, but an easy read. I loved it.

A beautiful, emotionally damaged heroine and a sensitive, handsome, talented hero. That about sums it up. Stock characters in a stock book. It was a pleasant way to pass a few hours, but just plain generic.

I never understood the connection between Cilla and her grandmother who died before she was born. The bad guys were just sort of thrown into a slow paced story that was basically that of an unfolding love. The end of the book was just tacked on. Why keep a secret for all that time, and then just blurt it out when somebody asks you. If the female bad person was so crazy, why wouldn't it have been seen before then?

The book was just not really worth it. Roberts is just coasting on her reputation.

The book kept you guessing...and that's good.
I have learned a few things about remodeling.
And flipping a house. The end of the book was great.
A big turn around. Good read.

Tribute felt recycled. Unfortunately, that is how most of Nora's books written over the past few years have felt to me. I have read all of her books and it seems like I am seeing the same three or four characters over and over, with slight variations in background and description. Before even opening one of her books, I can guess what type of characters the male and female leads will be, because it is one of the same three character types she continuously uses.

While likeable and well-developed, the characters in Tribute were also rather boring and predictable. I actually liked the in-depth descriptions of the house renovations and comic book writing. It showed research and dedication by the author. I do not like the direction Nora's writing has taken recently. She seems to have forgotten how to write dialogue, especially complete sentences. She also seems to have a fondness for developing the dog's character into one of the leads. This would not be such a bad thing, if not for the fact that most of the readers like the dog better than any other character. Ouch.

One aspect of the novel that I found amusing as well as annoying, was the name and description of the male lead. Ford Sawyer- Tall, lean, muscular, green eyes, sun-streaked hair, southern drawl. As a big fan of the TV show `Lost', I recognized the description immediately. I was surprised Nora basically took a character from a TV show and transferred him to her novel (with a slight name change). (Actor Josh Holloway plays James "Sawyer" Ford on 'Lost'). While only the name and looks were taken from the `Lost' character, even that seemed like too much. On the other hand, Ford Sawyer could have benefited from some of Sawyer Ford's attitude and edge.

I will continue to read Nora's books. She's a great author, and the only writer to actually make me laugh out loud when reading a book. I hope she gets back to her best with her next novel.

I passed this book on to another reader because I found it not up to what I usually get from the first chapter of a Nora Roberts book,ie: suspense,a pull to continue reading and interest in characters. Frankly, I wonder ift Ms. Roberts had a silent partner in the writing of this book as it just doesn't reflect the Nora Roberts I have come to look forward to reading for many years. The book starts out dry and tedious. Sorry Ms. Roberts.

Nora, got the formula hanging on your office wall for reference? What a huge disappointment. I have loved NR's books in the past but she is losing her zip. This one is just like several of her others - beautiful perfect heroine finds handsome not so perfect man and encounters difficulties while attempting to realize her dream, which of course all comes together seamlessly in the end and they all live happily ever after. I have always wanted to read a Nora Roberts book so ordered one. It has an attractive cover, is a nice size, but the biggest nothing I have ever attempted to read. It will be read but not because I think it has value, I just want to see what the world is calling "good". Sure not a page turner. Waste of my money.

I have loved Nora Roberts books since discovering her Born In series. She has a way of weaving stories and characters that are compelling reads. That said, Tribute falls very short. Here, the hero/heroine are quite flat and under-develop. The story revolve around the remodeling project of an old estate and a bit of suspense involving secrets from the past. Too bad, most of the characters are such cookie-cutter types. So bland, I keep mixing them up. There's also a mystical angle that distracted me. If not for Spock the dog, I probably would have just given up completely. As it is, I ended up skimming the last few chapters. All said, I'm a fan who will continue to read her, in hopes of finding better pieces in the future.

I have been a Nora Roberts fan since the beginning of her career, and it really pains me to say that "Tribute" is just plain blah. I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't. It's readable, but I really didn't care if I finished it or not. I thought the ex-husband character was much more interesting than the "hero". Cilla, the heroine, just never became real to me at all. I like to care about at least one character in a book, but the characters were just not interesting to me. I was amazed that the book rated 4 stars.

I was really excited to start this book because the blurb made it sound very promising. In fact, I read 120 pages on my first night, but not because it was interesting. I read 120 pages hoping it would get better, but it actually only got worse. Ford and Cilla's relationship seemed to move too fast and too slow at the same time. The dream sequences between Cilla and her grandmother were odd, almost as if Roberts decided to throw them in there just for the hell of it. I say they are odd because Cilla never met her grandmother, who died long before Cilla was born, and the dream sequences were rather pointless and unnecessary to the main plot. Overall, too much description about flipping houses. I feel like I can go out for my contractor's license now that I've read this book...

Since Nora Roberts has become such a prolific writer (don't know how she does it!), I am glad that she has apparently divided her efforts into different classes of books, ie: Robb-futuristic mysteries; NR-romance with a twist of mystery or fantasy and last but not least, the classic NR romance of which Tribute is one. You have a little bit of everything with this one, action, romance, mystery and a few surprises in the end. But as far as I am concerned there is no one better than NR when it comes to filling out her characters from their weaknesses to their strengths and how they always manage to grow with each page. If you like Nora Roberts, you will love this book.

Boring. I too had a HARD time getting through this. It was a chore. I guess I might have learned quite a bit about restoring a house if I'd actually paid close attention to that drawn out part of the story. Oh, and can't forget the graphic novel descriptions. I found the whole premise of the story - the Janet Hardy mystery to be totally dull and I really couldn't care less what happened so many years before. It was simply drawn out, way out and it got old fast for me.

The characters were 2 dimensional. They all talked alike (as is NR's routine these days in her books), so the character development or personalities didn't come out. Ford was supposed to be a nerd, but talked 'cool' like everyone else. Lots of slang. I'm married to a nerd and have known many. They don't talk like Ford. His speech patterns were not any different than Cilla's. AND CAN SHE POSSIBLY WRITE A BOOK WITH COMPLETE SENTENCES, USING 'the's, 'a's', pronouns, etc??? It is unnatural for everyone in a book to speak like that.

I did like Spock, the dog. He was the best character in the book.

I used to be a huge NR fan. I've read nearly all her books. I think this book will have to be the last one for me. I have tired of her, I guess. She doesn't write the way she used to. Some people will argue that it's natural for her writing to evolve and change, but give me the old great Nora Roberts books. Those were great romances. I, myself, don't care for her new writing style she has adopted.

So, obviously I don't recommend this book and I got it from the library.

I have been reading this book for almost 2 weeks (more than twice the time it usually takes me to read one of NR's books), and I still cannot get through it. I usually love her books, but this one is nowhere near as good as it could be. There is a lot of potential in this story, but it is being underutilized. The characters are likable, but the plot is slow a molasses. Honestly, the best part so far has been realizing that one of the characters is named Tom Morrow (hahaha)...which is when I keep telling myself I will finish this book, even though it hasn't happened yet.

If you are a die hard NR fan and absolutely must read this book, either borrow it from the library or wait until it comes out in paperback. It isn't worth the money spent on it.

Whatever happened to Nora Roberts? The lady who writes the JD Robb stories and other sizzling romances and mysteries? I certainly couldn't find any trace of her in "Tribute." I think Nora was trying to channel Eve Dallas into Cilla, what with her sarcasm and attempts at dry humor, but it didn't work. She was boooooring. And her neighbor was almost like a caricature: handsome, charming, sexy, well-off, sensitive, and understanding. He seemed as fake as Cilla. And the mystery?!? Who cares? This book seemed like something Nora had to write to meet a quota of books and she wasn't much interested in it. I couldn't even finish the book I found it so boring. Why were these people in love? Because the book had to have a romance so.............. And why was Cilla's ex-husband in the book? He had no real impact on the story. And I couldn't stand how mushy Cilla was when Steve got hurt. If she loved him so much and was so hysterical when he was hurt, why didn't she stay with him?
Sorry Nora, but the next time, I think I'll get your latest from the library so I won't be stuck with an expensive, boring, hardback. Nora, Nora, please come back.

It seems that Nora Roberts "might" be getting back to normal with this newest book. Tribute is a straightforward romance with a small mystery built-in. It stays away from the supernatural (mostly), the demonic/spellcasting, and Ireland. Thankfully, Roberts has offered a mainstream book worth reading - which, in my opinion, she hasn't in quite some time. The story is that Cilla McGowan has returned to her roots in Virginia after spending many years under the spotlight in Hollywood. She is drawn to the land in Virginia and the restoration of a farmhouse that has been in her family for decades. Across the road is her sexy, but very nerdy, neighbor, Ford Sawyer. Ford, and the story, is very easygoing and Roberts does a nice job of introducing us to some neighborhood residents and offering a look back at Cilla's life. As she repairs the farmhouse she also repairs rifts in her family, and follows the mystery of her aunt's alleged suicide. The mystery isn't terribly engaging but it didn't matter, because I was contented to read about Ford and Cilla and their burgeoning relationship. I'd recommend the book, especially for fans who've wanted a return to the 'old' Nora Roberts.

I love a good Nora Roberts book and this one didn't disappoint me. I love the theme she built this story around. The restoration of a vintage home was great. I was a bit disappointed in the ending of the novel, it seemed a bit abrupt I was hoping that maybe because of the ending it would lead to another story set in this town???? Cilla McGowan has spent her life living in the shadow of her famous movie star grandmother, Janet Hardy. The legendary actress had purchased a small farm in Virginia where she would go to unwind, but it was also the site of glittering parties and the place where she died of an overdose. Now Cilla, herself a former child star, has decided to settle in one place and start her own contracting business flipping houses. The place she has chosen is Janet Hardy's Little Farm, which is in dire need of a rehab. She camps in one of the bedrooms and begins the process of remodeling the once graceful old house. Across the street, in a restored Victorian, is Cilla's sexy neighbor, graphic novelist Ford Sawyer. Ford introduces himself to Cilla when he asks for permission to use her image for a new superhero. Cilla is at first put off, and then intrigued by the idea, and also by Ford himself, and his little dog Spock.

Also intriguing is the hidden cache of old letters Cilla finds in the attic that were written to Janet by an unnamed lover. At first, the letters were full of ardor, which then cooled and turned to anger and disgust. The last one alludes to Janet being pregnant, which is a revelation, as no one had known she was pregnant when she died, presumably by her own hand. It leaves Cilla to wonder if perhaps Janet's death was helped along by her lover, a theory bolstered somewhat by Cilla's vivid dreams about Janet in the past. After she carelessly discusses her theories with Ford where any number of workmen could have overheard, Cilla and her home are plagued by vandalism, and her ex-husband, who is a dear friend, is viciously attacked one night in her barn. She has a suspect, a bitter old man whose son was paralyzed in the same accident that took the life of Cilla's uncle Johnny, Janet's son, a few months before Janet's death. Not quite everything fits so neatly with that theory, however, and until Cilla and Ford can figure out who Janet's mystery lover was, anyone and anything close to Cilla isn't safe, most especially Cilla herself.

Nora Roberts is a talented author who can write entertaining books of many types, and this time out she has chosen to weave a rich tapestry of a story with an emphasis on home and family, with intrigue driving the story. Cilla's relationship with Ford, while crackling with sexual electricity, is comfortable and relaxed, and their friends and various family members are an integral part of their lives. Delivering a story both gripping and cozy, Nora Roberts easily retains her place at the top in women's fiction.

Okay so I really enjoyed Tribute. It is not one of Nora's best books but it was still really good. A lot of people have said to find the remodeling info a little overdone but I found that when she would describe a specific rehab aspect in detail, it was because it was important. So she didn't put those details in to be tedious but to move the plot along. I loved Cilla's character actually. Nora's female leads usually are usually tough in attitude or soft. Cilla was actually a combination of both so she was more human. I really liked this booked because every single character was explained. There was a depth to everyone and it was a different track for Nora, going into the dark side of Hollywood stardom. I found it an incredible story and I couldn't put it down. Enjoy! :)

This book did grab me fairly early on and held my attention more and more as I read. There are some flashback scenes between the main character, Cilla, and her dead grandmother, Janet, that I mostly found annoying. Other than that, a decent mystery. Without giving away plot devices, I found enough clues in the story to lead me to guess the villian, or at least strongly suspect the person's identity, before the big reveal. This book includes some legitimate detail, such as the houseflipping jargon. At the same time, Cilla's boyfriend, Ford, writes and draws graphic novels, and at times his work is lewd and rough. So I found it amusing to read such differences in language and style, all within the same story.

The ending is mostly satisfying, though an epilogue would have been appreciated. Ends are tied up but in a loose way and there is room for a sequel, or another book using some of the characters, should she return to the same place for another book.

It kept my interest almost from the very beginning. I will put a book down if they don't get me in the first chapter, sometimes sooner. That didn't happen with this book. The characters were fun and interesting and as the plot opened up I found myself trying to figure out 'who dunnit'. Reminded me a little of Mary Higgins Clark plots, which I also enjoy. I finished it in about 3 nights of reading in bed. I recommend it highly.

I FOUND THE NEW NORA ROBERT'S NOVEL "TRIBUTE" TO BE ONE OF HER BEST! IT CATCHES YOUR ATTENTION RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING AND I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN TILL I WAS DONE...I EVEN KEPT READING WHILE DRYING MY HAIR FOR WORK.
I FOUND IT WELL RESERCHED AND COMPELLING GIVING INSIGHTS INTO BOTH THE ART OF WRITING GRAPHIC NOVELS AND FLIPPING HOMES. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS BOOK...DEFINITELY A KEEPER!Tribute

Nora Roberts has done it again!! This is one of her best books. I started reading and couldn't put it down. The story draws you in and you feel a part of it. The ending is a huge surprise!! Be prepared not to put the book down until your done.

I've always been first in line to buy whatever Nora writes. But I've stopped buying the JD Robb books because they are all the same and there is absolutely no character development. I'll definitely never waste the money for a Hardcover now.

Tribute is beyond boring. Is it even ethical to write a review of a book that I just absolutely could not finish? Although I guess that says it all. These were the most uninteresting characters. After 199 pages (yep, I got that far, but it took 2 weeks) I just seriously did not care a whit what happpened to any of them. In addition to boring characters, this book had a weak storyline; and let's face it-easily discernible. It read so much like just about everything else she's ever written, complete with talking to the ghost of a dead relative. Keep your money, people.

I bought the unabridged audio CD, even though I belong to an audiobook club. It takes awhile to get the newly released audiobooks, so when one of my favorite authors comes out with a new book, I usually buy it. This was not one of Nora Roberts better books and if I'd known, I'd have waited for the rental version to become available or not bothered at all. I would have given it 2 1/2 stars if it were possible.

Though I see some less than favorable reviews on Nora's latest novel I have to disagree (each to their own, huh?). I thought the story and characters were delightful. Spock (with his happy dance) was the star. I thought Nora developed Spock almost as if he were human and understood what was going on and so one of the secondary characters. He appears in most of the scenes and made me laugh. Ford has some great lines and is a delightful hero. One reviewer said they had enough of the perfect hero. FORD? HE's not perfect; he can't dance or do anything mechanical, even a bit of a nerd, got jealous, but he was just what Cilla needed in her life.

I didn't see this as just a remake of other books she has written. If you look hard enough you could liken some of the characters to other books but when you've written as many as Nora has that is bound to happen. I found it refreshing that the hero and heroine are not in conflict the entire book and fall in love the last chapter-those are the ones that annoy me.

I thought it also refreshing that there were no brutal murders this time around. I thought it an easy and pleasant read and enjoyed it. The only thing I would have liked to know is what happened to the villans of the story after they were found out.

One should read this novel and judge it on its own merits and not compare it to Nora's other works. Has she written better; maybe. Has she written worse; probably! I still think it was an enjoyable read!

I was introduced to Nora Roberts Novels about 10 years ago while in the Hospital and have been hooked ever since. Tribute is set in the western section of Vitginia not very far from where I grew up and I could hardly put the book down after starting it. Ms. Roberts descriptions of the lay of the land, fona & flora paints a very clear picture of the area and takes me back to those roots. Her Characters are very beliveable and their relationships exceptional. The mistery of "who-done-it" stays well hidden untill very late in the book and helps with the intrigue of Cilla's haunted life. Many scenes depicted in the book brought a tear to my eyes and memories of times gone by. A great read.

Nora Roberts books are always good. I really enjoyed this one.
She has a way with words. I didn't know who was the culprit
until near the end. Love a book like that!!!

I am an avid Nora Roberts fan. I read everything she writes, including the J.D. Robb series, and had been anticipating the release of the novel for some time. I was however extremly dissapointed with both the story and the story line. The pace was too slow and at times and I found myself skipping ahead just to speed things up. In the end I didn't even finish it. Not one of her best, I'm still a fan, but something is definitely missing with this one.

Cilla McGowan is the granddaughter of the famous actress/singer Janet Hardy. Cilla's mom Dilly is also a star and Cilla herself was a child star and had a successful TV series. Cilla's mom and dad divorced when she was little. Cilla has finally bribed/persuaded and in the end paid to have her mom sell her Janet Hardy's farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The last few years has seen Cilla "flip" houses - that is, buy an old broken down house cheap, rehab and remodel and sell for a nice profit. Cilla got into this as her ex-husband had also been doing construction along with being a rock musician.

As Cilla takes her first real tour of the house and write notes on what she will do, her father comes by. He, his second wife and her half-sister live in the small town area that the farm is just outside of. Cilla never got to really know her father as her parents divorced when she was quite young and her mother kept her very busy with her movies, singing, TV series, etc. Cilla does not know what family really is as her mom flitted from husband and boyfriend and back again and is currently on her fifth husband. Cilla is sick of Hollywood and is studying for her contractor's license so she can have her own business flipping homes. Cilla's dad also gives her some names of local contractors she can use.

Across the road from Cilla in a lovely Victorian home lives Ford Sawyer, graphic novelist, and his very ugly dog. Ford gets inspired for his new graphic novel series when he sees and watches Cilla from across the road.

As the ensuing romances struggles, Cilla also is determined to learn more about Janet Hardy and find out who wrote a bunch of unsigned love letters that she has found in the attic. Unfortunately, some one is not happy with Cilla's possible snooping and more and more dangerous incidents and threats occur.

How this is resolved and Cilla learns that she does have a family and friends who care and she can rely on is very well done.

Highly recommended.

Endless pages about picking paint colors, faucets and tile. Way, way too many pages about rehabbing the house.

Cilla is indecisive and self-centered. She wants to put her Hollywood past behind her, but spends page after page overthinking it and talks endlessly (and I do mean endlessly) about her past, mother and grandmother. Nearly every conversation quickly turns to talking about her own situation. No wonder she never had any friends.

Ford and Spock are the only saving grace in this book; unfortunately not enough to raise it above one star.

Nora Roberts just keeps getting better. This was better and I loved the
dream sequences. As a fan of Nora Roberts' In Death series and her regular novels, she continues to improve on the writing techniques.
