sTORI Telling

She was television's most famous virgin--and, as Aaron Spelling's daughter, arguably its most famous case of nepotism. Portraying Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210, Tori Spelling became one of the most recognizable young actresses of her generation, with a not-so-private personal life every bit as fascinating as her character's exploits. Yet years later the name Tori Spelling too often closed--and sometimes slammed--the same doors it had opened.

sTORI Telling is Tori's chance to finally tell her side of the tabloid-worthy life she's led, and she talks about it all: her decadent childhood birthday parties, her nose job, her fairy-tale wedding to the wrong man, her so-called feud with her mother. Tori has already revealed her flair for brilliant, self-effacing satire on her VH1 show So NoTORIous and Oxygen's Tori & Dean: Inn Love, but her memoir goes deeper, into the real life behind the rumors: her complicated relationship with her parents; her struggles as an actress after 90210; her accident-prone love life; and, ultimately, her quest to define herself on her own terms.

From her over-the-top first wedding to finding new love to her much-publicized--and misunderstood--"disinheritance," sTORI Telling is a juicy, eye-opening, enthralling look at what it really means to be Tori Spelling.

The Manor
People are always asking about my parents' mansion, which they called the "Manor," but I don't really spend much time talking about it in sTORI Telling because I didn't grow up there. After demolishing Bing Crosby's former estate in Holmby Hills, a fancy neighborhood in west L.A., they spent six years building the Manor. It's about 46,000 square feet (slightly over an acre) and has 123 rooms. Not that I counted or measured. I got those figures from the press, just like everyone else.

Anyway, we moved in when I was seventeen and I only lived there for two years. In some ways the house is like a normal house, but everything is on a bigger scale. It has four floors: the basement (which we call the "Lower Level," probably because that's its designation on the elevator) and the first, second, and third floors. The first floor has a kitchen, a breakfast room, a dining room, an office, a family room, a living room, and a projection room. There's a grand foyer with sweeping staircases on each side. Oh, and there's also a guards' room and the staff dining room. Everyone except fancy guests comes through the service entrance into a hallway with the guards' room and the kitchen.

The kitchen is gigantic, and my fondest memory of it is from when I was twenty-one and had just moved back in after splitting up with a boyfriend. I came home drunk with some girlfriends, and we pillaged the two double-sized Sub-Zero refrigerators. There was always bulk food in there for the staff. We pulled out a big vat of chicken salad and a tub of peanut dressing, both of which looked like they'd been made for giants. Somewhere in the middle of our feast we decided to have a food fight, and the five of us started flinging food at each other. Soon we were covered in peanut dressing from head to toe and the pristine kitchen was a mess. Then we heard a ding, the elevator doors opened, and there was my mother.

She stared at us in silent disbelief. I said, "We're going to clean it up!" She just said, "Mmm hmm," and left the room. I felt a surge of love for her in that moment. It took us hours to clean the kitchen, but it was worth it. That moment made it feel, for once, like home. --Tori Spelling

I couldn't wait to read this book. I had heard so much from watching Tori on Oxygen. I wish it had been longer, and a little more detail, but then again I suppose it would have made the book 1,000+ pages. The chapters about how her and Dean met were awesome and really felt like a fairy tale. This was definately a great book for any Tori fan!

I watch the Tori Spelling show and was curious to read her biography. It was a really quick read, I read it in a day and a half. I really enjoyed this book. It gave a empathetic look into a hollywood rich girls life. It showed how money definitely does not guarantee happiness.I would recommend the book to all.sTORI Telling

A little self involved book about a self involved young lady. That has not grown up enough to appreciate the life she was given and forgive her parents for not being perfect. In all fairness young people, especially those who do drugs and alcohol so early in their life tend to blame others for their choices instead of taking responsiblity for their own poor judgements. We all had parents who weren't perfect and we found away to love them and forgive them for not being everything we expected and then grew up and ask forgiveness in return because WE WERE BRATS! Life and having a family of our own has a way of teaching us about what parents are really all about. I'm sure her parents had their problems as attested to in her book. She had choices but chose to chose money and being manipulated over standing up, we treat people how to treat us. So don't blame mommy dearest for being mommy dearest when YOU clearly let her be that kind of mother, or Daddy for being unattainable. Look inside yur self dor why you didn't chose freedom, many people do.

In order for me to get this book, I had to special order it from Barnes and Noble. I could't put it down. It was great and funny. After watching her shows each week, I can picture her saying everything in the book as it happened. Tori, if you read this, write another one. Your life is interesting and funny. I love the way that Dean treats you; a Cinderella Story. Your Dad would be proud of you. I read it in two days. I look forward to reading another one you publish. Your video of you and Dean singing was hysterical and I mean that in a nice way.
Anyone feeling depressed needs to read this book. It is funny and very descriptive.
You are blessed,
Debbie

I used to love watching 90210 when I was younger, and then when Tori and Dean came out with their story on Oxygen, I found myself watching religously. So when she came out with this book I had to have it! I couldn't put it down! Her life was so interesting, and strangly I found myself relating to Tori Spelling?? Her life was so real and complicated, yet she was able to survive it and become a stronger person because of it! She really inspired me and made me realize that there is hope out there for me! It was very well written and just an over all great book!

Although I wouldn't have ever considered myself a Tori fan, this book brought a whole new perspective to her and her life. Very interesting stories and very well written...I would be laughing one minute and near tears the next. She is a hard worker and has grown into a beautiful woman, and I will definitely listen to what she has to say. Oh...and makes me appreciate growing up in middle class America!! No thanks to all the drama LOTS of money can bring!!

Believe it or not, this was a really good book. I read it in 3 days! I am not a huge fan of Tori Spelling but look at her now in a whole new light. I think that anyone who is into celebrity gossip or just autobiographies in general would enjoy this book.

It was nice to see that even though she grew up with more money that God she still seems to maintain some shred of normalcy. Throughout the book you get the feel that all she ever wanted was to just be like everyone else. It is a nice portryal of the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side"

Definitely reccomend!!

I must first say, I don't usually read or like to read. I read in college and the most I like to pickup now is an US weekly or similar read. After watching Tori and Dean's reality show, I wanted to know more about the life of Tori and her relationship with her mom, how she met Dean, etc, from her own words.

Let me tell you, for a girl who doesn't like to read, I read this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down and can't wait to hear more from Tori. If you like reading about celeb gossip, where better to hear than from the source! This book is great!

I was never really a huge fan of Tori Spelling and when I first heard that she wrote a book, I never thought I would read it. One day I was perusing Amazon.com and I started reading the great reviews that her book was getting. I was intrigued, so I ordered it.

Tori spelling is a great writer and I had fun reading about her interesting life. She is quite humorous and I read the book very fast. I had no idea just how much she's been through with her mother and I also didn't know how much disappointment she's had in her life. I am now a Tori Spelling supporter!

I liked this book and I never was a tori spelling fan ever before-I never even watched 90210 but there is something so sweet and innocent about tori. I think her critics are very harsh about tori's life and tribulations. In this book she was being honest without sounding like a spoiled rich girl. She was deprived of real unconditional love from her parents and who could blame her for that. I think tori is misguided sometimes but she finds her way through her loving husband dean. Just remember everyone-Jesus Christ himself was drawn the most to people like tori because they are the ones that need the most help from others.

I was delighted in the poingant self-depracating humor and honest, human feelings Ms. Spelling put forth in this book. You will laugh with, and at her, yet gain an amazing amount of respect when you read this. She worked hard to get where she is and didn't ride the diva coat tails of her famous father. She's professional, forthright and amazingly witty in her recounting of some famous (and not so famous) details of her life.

I absolutely loved sTORI Telling! As a huge 90210 fan, I was interested in reading Tori Spelling's book. I had no idea how very "real" Tori Spelling is, or what she has been through. The press has made so many very wrong assumptions about her, and I am glad she has told her story. Tori is a fantastic person and I am an even bigger fan now having read this book. Tori tells of her hardships without being whinning or woe-is-me, and her comedic style is evident throughout the book. I admire her for all she has overcome and I wish her nothing but the best.
Also, my heartfelt sympathies go to Tori for the recent passing of her beloved dog Mimi La Rue.

I gotta say that I'm not much of a reader, I read text books for school, the newspaper and magazine, but a book NEVER. But I started watching the 2nd season of Tori and Dean, no soNotorious or Tori and Dean Inn In Love. I don't know but I really enjoyed their relationship, how they spend time with baby Liam and how Dean kinda bends to Tori's every little wish, but I can truly see that they are in love. Anyway I decided to get the book, I dont read a lot of gossip magazines and the only thing I seen Tori on was BH 90210. To my surprise I read the book page per page, I was determend to finish it since I bought it. I LOVED IT, to me It was honest and I started to see her and her life in a new light. I love how she keep Dean's life to herself and how she embrace a whole new life outside her Spelling fortune. I gotta say that I love her relationship with her "nanny", how she made sure she was present in her life. I would call this book second chances just because if you don't know TOri you will embrace her after reading this book...

I enjoyed a few of the So Notorious episodes I watched on VH1 and thought how open and FUNNY Tori was. I never got really in to the whole 90210 thing, so my exposure to Miss Spelling has been fairly recent. SO I got this book, and could hardly put in down. Although I certainly understand her better, I actually like her less than when I started reading. But she is a person, and a seemingly honest one at that. (and which of us hasn't made a mistake, or a hundred mistakes for that matter) I don't really see how someone who grew up in the whole twisted surreal way that she did could have done much better. I keep feeling horrible for her first husband Charlie, even though I know he should have known better. . But she is frank and infinitely likeable, and even though she still comes across as rather entitled and selfish despite her frequent attempts at self depreciation, I still think I would like to know her. She seems delightfully neurotic and although I don't completely trust her, I think that with her lack of real spiritual direction and guidance from her parents, she is navigating this world much better than most of her peers.
Her mother is meant to be villianized in my opinion, but it's her father who gets me angry. I don't think Aaron was fair to Tori, either in his will or in her career. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a glimpse into a world so foreign it's like a different planet.

I absolutely love Tori Spelling! We have all been blessed to see her as "a real person" than of course what pretty much everyone has perceived all these years (little rich girl syndrome) - with the Tori & Dean show and now her wonderful biography.

Kudos to you Tori for overcoming sooo many obstacles in your life and being so down to earth - you have won the respect of so many people - and not that you were really wanting or needing to - but I think you have successfully done that (as you stated in your book - just wanted to be normal) and you did it the right way - with respect.

I look forward to more Tori & Dean series - to watch you and your adorable family grow - and another biography!

To anyone who hasn't bought/read this book - do so, it's worth it! And, if you don't watch her show - do so, worth it as well!!!!

This book shows that gossip and Hollywood hype can really do damage to a person's image. After hearing all the hype about Tori Spelling and her father and mother, my image of her was "the spoiled rich kid." Not anymore. Her book reveals the issues and life experiences that Tori had that, yes unlike mine, yet shaped her childhood and now adult life.

Read this book. My image of Tori has changed to "she is someone who I could be friends with!"

sTORI TELLING is a most enjoyable read. It is surprising as I was not a fan of Tori Spelling before I saw the book and read it. I am now. I remember her slightly on Beverly Hills 90210. I like her humbleness, how she doesn't downplay her father's wealth or high society she had living in Beverly Hills. It's the opposite of a rags-to-riches story, a riches-to-human-being story. Out of respect, I think Tori Spelling is a very kind woman and I think she would be nice to Walmart employees, etc. Of all the books I've read on famous and wealthy people, this is the best book I've ever read. I also admire that the back photo of her was snapped by Dean McDermott and not by a professional photographer. I think you have it going on, Tori. Good luck.

The book held my interest. I think she should forgive her mother, noone is perfect, her therapist should help her more. Tori, word of advice, don't feel you have to throw so many parties let Dean rest for goodness sake. Can't wait to read your next book and see what movies you make.

I really have enjoyed reading about Tori Spelling and how she grew up. It's more than a "poor little rich girl" tale-she really pours out her heart about who she is and why. It is a fun and interesting read.

Since i was a HUGE fan of 90210, and STILL AM, and now a fan of Tori Spellings show on Oxygen, i was so excited to read her book. SInce i have gotten it, i have not reached a dull moment yet. I don't want to put it down a lot of the time. I see now why she is the way she is, and how glamorous her life really wasn't growing up. When Clueless came out, the song SUPER MODEL says "I wish i was Tori Spelling, with a car like hers and a dad like hers" and i agreed. I am half way through the book and can't believe how the relationship with her mother really was, and the drama she has been through to get to where she is today. I love Tori Spelling and i hope to learn more through her show(s), and her new book about raising children. GREAT BOOK!!

I was certainly pleased when I read this book. I thought Mrs. Spelling was some air-headed rich girl. That was not the case at all. She is a down-to earth person who is doing her best throughout the book to find out who she is inside. I must say that being the child of a very wealthy man would make it hard not to have an ego the size of Mt. Fuji. Believe it or not the girl who turns into a woman is polite, respectful and genuine. From what Ms. Spelling wrote the same cannot be said of her mother. Her mother sounded nasty, cold, and only worried about her own image. She certainly loved her husband's money. I read somewhere that Mrs. Spelling went to Italy with millions of dollars worth of jewelery and got it stolen. Give me a break lady! Everyone knows you do not take the real stuff along when you travel. I think Tori Spelling must have learned about life just from what she experienced after living away from home. She married the wrong man the first time because she thought that love was someone being nice to her. Of course she did. Very few people including her own parents had been sincere to her and able to express love. She did have an affair while she was married which I find to be inappropriate. She should have waited and just told her husband that their marriage was not working out instead of going from one man to another. My mom says if you can live alone then you can really learn to live. Still I applaud Ms. Spelling for finding her own way even though it was not perfect.

I love how she's open and honest with what happened in her life, good and bad.
