Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

There are few books that will truly keep my attention for long enough to finish it, but all 4 of the Twilight books have really intrigued me.
They really have a true feeling of belonging and love in them. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-14 09:05:54 EST)

I would have to disagree with those customers who give the Twilight saga books a negative review. With all due respect, everyone is entitled to their own personal opinions, as I am too. But this is a work of brilliance. Lots of ethos - but quite vivid in terms of making one's imagination wonder.
When I first heard, from a friend of mine, that there was this new best-selling LDS author (Stephenie M. Meyer) who had recently released these three awesome books (and now four, inclusive of Breaking Dawn), I absolutely had to inquire more into it. At first I kind of cringed away from reading them - because I heard the words "it's about vampires..." in it. BUT, they had my undivided attention when they accompanied that with "...and brim with romance". What more can I say - as most ladies, if not all, we are suckers for romance. Start to finish of the Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn books, I must say - they were wrapped with suspense, moments that made me want to cry, and others too that made my heart explode with overwhelming emotion at the love and romance that exists between Bella and Edward, and the other characters in their complementary relationships with each other. These books are sure to keep you on edge, all the way through, in short - a nail-biting experience very very much well worth the read, and absolutely recommended (by me and other fanatics of these books at least!!). Once you commence, it will be hard to put the novels down - even if it is only for a few seconds - as I found out for myself; first hand experience! :) I would say that it is "safe", or rather suitable for teens (at least those about 16 and above - who have reached the LDS dating age etc.!), and adults alike, as I am one myself, an adolescent at 19 years of age. Overall, fit for all ages... and gender (hopefully you guys will love these books as much us gals do)... A marvelous read!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-14 09:05:54 EST)

This book is ridiculous. It ropes you in and then ties you up with its repetitiveness. The same thing is repeated over and over. Can you say HOLE- because that's about all the heroine says. It is also reminiscent of a book I read several years ago about a girl who fell in love with a vampire. The difference was- that book was well written and didn't contain- of all things- werewolves. This book is silly.

I was so pleased with the book New Moon. I became a Twilight Junkie after just two chapters of the first book. I finished it in two days while I was on vacation at the beach. So, as soon as I got back, I ordered New Moon and Eclipse. I had a few things in mind that I was sure would happen in this book, but to my surprise they did not come out how I had planned... it was better. Stephenie Meyer is a genius.

In an effort to keep Bella "safe" the Cullen's leave Forks, Washington. Heart broken, Bella attempts to go on with her life. In an effort to move on she begins challenging herself by getting into dangerous situations with the help of her friend Jacob Black. But, just as we've come to expect from Bella, she's got herself in some more trouble as she learns that vampires aren't the only creatures that go bump in the night.
I have to confess that I knew nothing about this series when I began reading Twilight so I was surprised that there really weren't many vampires in the second installment. However, that didn't detract from the fact that the characters are really well written. As with Twilight, I found myself hating Bella. She's a weak and sad character and I find myself having no pity for her the plights that she gets herself into. In fact, I hate her even more because Jacob Black, someone with some real depth, likes her. However, because I find Edward to be just as awful as a character, I feel that they belong together. Both too weak to live without the other. The first two-thirds of the book is just about her relationship with Jacob Black and how she digs herself out of the dark hole that is her life without Edward. It isn't until the end that real action happens. As with the first book, a whole bunch of nothing occurs throughout most of the book and yet I'm compelled to keep reading. The characters, though annoying, are written so well that I can't help but sometimes imagine them as real people, even if I hate them. And I hate myself even more for liking these books so much that I can't put them down. I can definately say that these books are not for everyone but I can already see why they also appeal to such a large crowd. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-14 00:47:56 EST)

I flew through this book, the second in the "Twilight" series. Unlike its predassasor, the action starts right away and even the scenes with less action, are entertaining. I have always thought of myself as a vampire girl, but I think I may be leaning towards a different type of species altogether. Jacob Black is a great character, his depth of love for Bella was evident and honestly I feel that it rang more true than that love given by her true love Edward. Edward and Black are both likeable here, both even more so than in "Twilight". Meyer definately has a talent for characterization and dialouge. I was worried about that in the earlier book and one of my complaints was a lack of depth to her characters. A lot of those worries were wisked away with this story. Much enjoyment was derived from watching her friendship with Jacob blossom. I also liked the story of his people and seeing some turns of events there. I was really left wanting more of this story. Now, I gave "Twilight" a 3-star with many doubts and worries so I had to up this one to a 4 star because I enjoyed "New Moon" so much. This book can't be a 5-star for me, and I must explain. The biggest problem with this book is Bella herself. I personally had a momentous heartbreak that took a very LONG time to get over at about her age. Never once did I curl up into a ball and block out a search party looking for me, for crying out loud. Never once was I "in a near catatonic state" for months. I cried, I screamed, I mourned. Bella's reaction was over the top. Maybe people truly get like that over a break-up, but I don't think weak character's should be a role model for teenagers. I am scared to my core, that even one "Twilight" obsessed teen is going to walk away from this book and think for a second that it is ok to fall into this morbid despair shown here. Bella was like this for months and only seemed to really come alive again with Edward's reappearance. Also, the fact that Bella is so willing to end her life for him, is a scary, scary thing. Bella is literally a weak character who exists only for a man, and I think that is an ugly thing to present to a targeted YA audience.

I literally started and finished this book today... I simply could not put it down. I like that we are able to get Jacob's story and how Bella develops a friendship with him all the while showing the depth of her love towards Edward, even while he is away and she believes that he no longer loves her. I liked the darker aspects to this book as well as the introduction of other elements (that's all i'll say to risk spoiling, however, anyone who has read will know what I'm saying).
Another A+ for me... can't wait to read Eclipse & Breaking Dawn (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-14 00:47:56 EST)

I'm torn between two ratings (not lovers, as the book might suggest). I like that Meyer has delved deeper into vampire and werewolf lore, meriting the three stars, I dislike how annoying Bella is becoming and how mechanical her insecurities are portrayed, let's see:
1 - Forgetting to breathe. I don't ever recall doing this or seeing it happen but Bella does it all the time as do most of the other characters in the books. 2 - Biting your lip. I understand that one character can do this. I've known people that do this. But the moment Edward started biting his lip, I realized this was not a character trait, it was an addiction. 3 - Feeling like everyone's safety is your responsibility. Yes, Bella, it is your fault all of this is happening. No, you shouldn't go do dumb things in order to save these people from your influence, thus putting yourself in jeopardy and making things a lot worse. In the end, I give her three stars by simply ignoring these things. That's the beauty of reading in print rather than listening to an audiobook. I can skip these annoyances. First off, my rating would be more like three and a half stars, but Amazon doesn't allow that, so I rounded up. Although it pales in comparison to Twilight, especially for those of us who are not so into romance, this book still has plenty to offer. When Edward leaves the story gets a little bit rough. Bella is overly emotional to the point of annoyance. I may not be into romance, but I'm especially not into this kind of romantic tragedy. Then Jacob comes along, and Bella begins to realize that life may actually go on. I really like Jacob, personally. He seems more real than almost all her other characters to me. After a surprise visit from Alice, the adventure really starts, and the ending proves much easier reading than the rest of the book. Overall, I'd say this book was decent and worth the time.

The writing gets worse in the Twilight saga. It makes VC Andrews (if you are old enough to remember those books) read like high literary prose. But what teenaged girl can resist this plot of an unearthly gorgeous vampire (who is also wildly rich) in love with a mortal girl dealing with high school? Apparently not many.

I liked New moon a lot, almost every girl bell's age as gone though this, where her boyfriend or someone she feels important leaves her life. While I don't think It's the best book out the series so far, I do believe that it had to be written and defently adds to the plot and overall story. Bella is able to get back on her feet, which I think girl's need to know that possible, and live her life.
For those people who think that its horrible and I will give you your options. But to those who say Bella is "selfish, she trying to kill herself, depression is a bad example to give kids", I think you need to look around you. And It makes me wonder if you are not talking about yourself. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-07 01:15:17 EST)

This book is a must read. The author captured everything. When reading this it made me cry, happy, and all the emotions that she wanted to show or wanted her readers to feel. Unlike any other books I've read, this one is exeptional. I don't think that I can compare this to other books, not that I read a lot, but through my readings I have not come across something like this. It made me feel what the characters felt. The way she describes it, it's just too good. I really can't explain, but I really highly recommend reading the saga..

I read the first book in one day and could not put it down. So I rushed back to the bookstore to find out what happens next- NOTHING!!! If you write a successful vampire novel why would you remove the vampires from the sequel? That would be like JK Rowling switching to a story about the Dursleys for 700 pages in book 2. Wow it takes a lot of talent to mess up this badly.
I am an avid reader and literally could not put the first book down, but this is awful. I wish I could get my money back. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-07 01:15:17 EST)

Back when I noticed the still numerous copies of Twilight in book shops, I remember thinking that it's probably nothing more than "just another vampire story" and promptly dismissing it. Ironically, a few weeks later it was already the word of mouth - even friends online were recommending it enthusiastically.
You can just imagine that I was kicking myself sore by this time...since the stores I went to have virtually run out of copies of it. Yes, go figure. Serves me right. But luckily I did get a copy of the first installment. And sure, it was a very entertaining read for me. (Okay, a bit of understatement - I finished it the same day I brought it.) Still, I was thinking that surely the next one would hardly be up to par. The seemingly escalating craze notwithstanding. Now, when I was about a third in New Moon, I feared that my sentiments may be proven correct. Though Jacob deserves his own story, since his character, even sans-werewolf, was an interesting, albeit unrealistic, male teenager (he's just too nice!), my hard-to-cure spot for romance was just clamoring for more scenes involving Edward. And I was growing a bit tired of Bella's nightmares and the cliché waking-up-screaming accounts. Added to that was the puffed-up no-show Victoria. I was just about ready to give up. One thing I can say about Meyer, she sure does know a trick or two. Before I was aware of it, the adrenalin picks up, she unfurls a whole new coven of vampires out of nowhere, and Edward comes back with a vengeance. And though all of us female readers know that his feelings for Bella have not changed, the reckoning of his actions and his reaffirmations of love still, STILL left me bawling. How's that for ms. pessimistic, huh? So, yeah, to make a long story short...too late!...New Moon is definitely another proof why this Series deserves to be greedy with all this adulation. All I have to do is keep up with it... (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-07 01:15:17 EST)

This is by far the best book of the entire series so far! Bella, being far too perfect in book one, is left behind by Edward and broke-hearted, making her much more likable. Her good friend Jacob is there to lend a shoulder and an ear and help put her heart back together.
Together Bella and Jacob begin a new reltionship based on fun, excitement, and danger. Every time Bella gets close to danger, she feels Edward's presence, causing her to do it more. All the while, leading Jacob on as he falls for her. Without spoiling anything else, this was a really great read and as I said, my favorite of the first three. (have yet to read 4th) You'll fall for Jacob in this one! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-05 02:53:19 EST)

The Twilight Saga continues.
Twilight was interesting enough for first servings. Then the craving, much like a vampire is naturally attracted to delicious blood, continues with the second volume of the doomed love affair between lonely/confused teen-age girl and ...uhm, the bloodsucker. But let's throw in other monsters on the side. Let us complicate matters by making the fantastic look like something equally horrible and nerve-twisting ... like high school. The tween Anne Rice vampire novels continue. But this one is a step down the ladder of the interesting. Now the reader begins to wonder ... what next? The hunger persists ... but with less fang than pang. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-02 02:01:11 EST)

I read Twilight on a dare, a challenge. I had made the mistake of telling a friend who liked it that I would never read a book like that and then she dared me to give it a chance, so I gave in and picked up the paperback version at a bookstore.
The first one was pretty good. I enjoyed it and was content with the ending. Deciding to try the rest of the series, I ordered New Moon and Eclipse from Amazon and received them both in a couple of days. I spent all day and night reading both of them before dawn of the next day. I didn't spend all day reading this book because I loved it, though. I was just hoping to get back to the character Edward. Many have already said that he is absent from most of this novel to introduce Jacob and Bella's relationship. The point that Edward comes back is predictable, though (the series move on as a Bella/Edward love story), and I wanted to finish this one to get back to Edward. His character is hard to deal with some times and is far too perfect, but will appeal to any romantic, no matter how deeply buried the romantic side is. Jacob, on the other hand, drove me nuts. He is well written as a boy about to become an adult. He is as annoying yet lovable as any teenage boy I know. Jacob is stubborn and decisive and drove me insane, but he is a key character and is written fairly realistic compared to the boys I grew up with. Especially the ones who wanted girls they could not have. The story of this book is fairly decent. I was bored at points and missing Edward's character, but it is all fairly key for Eclipse. I know I am patiently waiting for the last one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-02 02:01:11 EST)

Although I'm definitely Team Edward, I give New Moon a ten-fingers and all ten-toes up!
I think that everyone can relate to someone in the story; Edward, having to chose to do what he wants and what he thinks is best for his soul mate. Bella, heart broken and not able to figure out why she's unwanted by who she thought was her destiny. Jacob, shouldering a friend in need, falling in love with her on the way. Stephenie Meyer yet again demands our attention and hits us with the unexpected. More than clever, (if that's even possible), is her description at the end... but I won't say anything about that. I wouldn't want anyone to get it spoiled for them. Regardless, New Moon, with Twilight before it and Eclipse and the final volume, Breaking Dawn after are must reads. I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I enjoyed Twilight and Eclipse. In Twilight I was facinated by Edward and the Cullens but they are almost completely absent for most of the novel. While I found Jacob's character to be interesting I didn't see the chemistry between him and Bella and felt that the novel lacked an actual plot, it was more of a filler between books one and three then anything else. It really dragged and I had to force myself to get through all five hundered pages of it. However if you have read Twilight and want to read Eclipse it would be best to read New Moon first because it does give you more insight into Bella's character, you might not like her by the end of New Moon but you'll have more insight.

I am a teacher certified in the state of Washington. One of my endorsement is K-12 reading. I read a lot of books that young adults read so I can make short book reviews to the students I teach. Ms. Meyer's vampire/warewolf romance fantacy novels have kept my interest and waiting for the 4th and last book to come out.
'New Moon' is about the struggle of Jacob and his clan brothers turning into 'protectors' (warewolves) of old ledgends. Bella has gone into a deep depression from Edward's leaving. She finally finds a light at the end of her dark tunnel by developing a deep friendship with Jacob. Bella seems to be on the edge of distruction most of the time. Jacob is the one person who lifts the dark cloud that she carries with her. I enjoyed the twists and turns Meyer takes the reader through. Does Bella reunite with Edward, or does she find a new true love in Jacob. You'll have to read 'New Moon' to find out. This book was more exciting for me than Twilight. It made me want to read on. I feel any one who liked Harry Potter, or Eragon, will find Ms. Meyer's epic soga of Bella and her life in Ford, WA, a worth-while read. I enjoy Meyer's style, but found the romance parts a bit too over done. I've purchased all four books(still waiting for the fourth book to come out)for my own library. I have already suggested this read to several young adult readers. If you liked 'Twilight', you will enjoy 'New Moon' just as much, maybe even more. I enjoyed this book better than the first one. I love Jacob Black's character and she brings him more to the forefront in this story. Stephenie Meyer is a wonderful writer. Her books are habit forming.

(3.5 stars actually.)
Where Twlight left off, New Moon picks up--of course. In case you aren't already aware of Twilight, it's the story of a 17 year old girl named Bella Swan who moved up to Forks, Washington and found herself in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. After some misadventures which nearly claimed Bella's life, she began thinking more seriously (and I use that term loosely) about becoming a vampire herself so Edward no longer needs to worry about her safety and they can stay together forever. New Moon begins rather bleakly when Edward decides to break off the relationship. This sends Bella spiraling into depression for a few months, until she notices that Edward's voice comes back to her when adrenaline is pumping. This prompts her to start walking on the wild side. Part of this wild side included riding a motorcycle, of which she knew nothing. She enlisted the aid of Jacob Black to fix up the motorcycle and teach her how to ride. Over the course of fixing the motorcycles, Bella and Jacob, though almost two years her junior, form a deep bond. Where Twilight focused on getting to know Edward Cullen, New Moon focused on getting to know Jacob Black. We, as the readers, got to see how their indiviual relationships with Bella differed. Jacob actually contrasts Edward in almost every way. Jacob is bigger, less graceful, and not as disarmingly handsome as Edward. In fact, Jacob is a werewolf--natural enemy of the vampire. One would think the climax of the book would somehow entail a bout between Jacob and Edward for the love of Bella, but it doesn't--at least, not overtly. The climax occurs when Bella must fly to Italy to save the life of her beloved Edward, thus saying a tortured good-bye to Jacob. That's the moment she realizes she's torn between the werewolf and the vampire. She wants the friendship of the werewolf, but craves the love of the vampire. But she knows ne'er the twain shall meet. Since I don't want to fill this review with too many spoilers, I'll just jump to my notes on the book itself. Again, Meyer's prose still left much to be desired, but it did improve since Twilight. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the editing. However, she hasn't gotten over latching on to a particular word and using it ad nauseum. In Twilight, the word was incredulous; in New Moon, it's glower. At any given moment, someone or something is glowering at someone or something else--or grimacing or growling. The characters, with the noted exception of Jacob, are still rather shallow. Jacob is warm, unconventionally charming, intelligent, and funny. In fact, he seemed quite real. One thing I didn't appreciate about his character, however, was his willingness to let Bella use him. More than once, she's made it clear that Jacob would be her second choice since Edward would always and forever be her first, yet Jacob stands idly by and accepts it. (In other words, Edward is Bella's Romeo while Jacob is her Paris.) Rather than overcoming the absence of Edward and growing as an individual, Bella becomes a reckless teenager. Rebellion is to be expected, but going from a girl who can barely walk without tripping to someone who flings herself off a cliff just to hear the voice of her long gone sweetheart? I guess unhealthy obsession can make you do crazy things. Edward didn't have much time to show us how he'd changed in the many months spent away from Bella since he was absent for much of the novel, so I'm reserving comment. (He still seems rather arrogant and smug, though.) One truly positive thing I can say about New Moon is that it's much more fast-paced and contains more physical action than Twilight. There is an electric energy that permeates the book which wasn't there with Twilight and I believe that it comes from the introduction of Jacob's character. At the end of the day, this book was still an enjoyable read and Meyer is still an excellent storyteller. Despite the flaws of prose and illogical reasoning for many of the emotions, it was easy to become lost in the fantasy. As I said in my review of Twilight, it's very much like watching a reality TV show featuring a clumsy teenage girl and, rather than a thoroughly confused vampire this time around, a charming teenage werewolf. And also, like with Twilight, don't read this with too serious an eye. This a fluff piece to be read on rainy days when you just want to escape from it all. New Moon, book two, is a good fallow up in the twilight saga. Will Bella give up her humanity to be with Edward forever? Is the saga's big question. Can Jacob win her heart?
It is a sweet love story not great fiction but sweet. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-30 01:15:06 EST)

First book held my attention, New Moon was slow until half way through and then began to pick up the pace. So many different characters you sometimes get confused about who is what and where they belong in the plot.

This book is not a crude fascination with vampires but a emotionally developed story of star-crossed lovers.
In this case Edward and his clan of vampires have sworn off blood. But during an accident, Bella starts bleeding and Edward and his family soon realize that their desire for blood places her in danger. Edward leaves Bella for her own good but she is left depressed and sad....with only memories of Edward. If you are expecting detailed account of vampires in this book then you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you're looking for a nuanced novel about "human" emotions, then this is the book for you. Another unusual book worth checking out is "Nexus: A Neo Novel" - a fascinating story about love, spirituality and paranormal occurrences. It shows the struggle of Logan Andrews through depression after the loss of his fiance to another man. He meets her again at a retreat but their meeting brings both passion and conflict to the surface. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-26 01:14:04 EST)
