This book is one of my children's favoirte books. They loved pulling down the flaps and seeing what was hidden. It is also a fun way for them to learn their body parts. A fun way to learn terms and concepts like "behind" and "underneath". My children wanted to read it over and over again.

I brought this book for my daughter-in-law to read to our grandchild. They are teaching dual languages (English and Spanish) to him as his other grandparents are Chileans.

My 13 month old daughter LOVES this book! She wants me to read it all day everyday. When she is walking around more often than not she has it in her hands. She like pointing to the babies and lifting the flaps. Your child may or may not be as intersted in the book as she is but its worth a shot.

Very round, very cute, very... childlike, for lack of a better word.

And I always appreciate the effort in making a multiracial cast of kids, not everybody does that.

Would be nice if the flaps were a little stronger, though. Unfortunately, they *will* rip off, so this book has to be supervised only :(

We are on child #2 with this book and both of my kids have requested it over and over and over and over. My youngest, 19 months, is 'reading' it to us. I found my 5 yr old reading it to the youngest one last night.

It is easy to understand, fun for the babies and easily read by my other kid. What could be better? Well, maybe a space age polymer that keeps the flaps on when an overzealous toddler continues to try and wrestle them off.

(Hide Review...)  Cute idea, but not sturdy enough for babies,
Reviewer Permalink
I will say that my daughter did like this book. It's a "peek-a-boo" type book. The problem is that, of course, babies want to open and close the flaps themselves, and these flaps are thin, flimsy and hard for little baby fingers to get a hold of (and avoid ripping or curlling once they do). Many of our flaps are missing, but the kids still read this book from time to time.

It would be better if it was a little sturdier.

(Hide Review...)  My nine month old loves it!
Reviewer Permalink
Oh, how my baby loves this book! She squeals with delight as soon as I pick it up because she knows what's coming. I read Katz's Counting Kisses to her every night and we also have Daddy Hugs. The illustrations in those two are also engaging. But nothing delights her as much as the lift the flap aspect of this book.

It's especially intriguing how she "reads" the last lift a flap. I point out the bear, ball, and wagon and I say "but where's baby, where could he be?" Then I lift the flap to reveal the baby, my daughter squeals, claps and smiles big and then thoughtfully looks back over at the bear, ball and wagon and then back at the revealed baby. It's like she knows the entire scene has changed by the revealing of the baby. How can a parent not love a book that elicits such engaged thoughtful behavior?

I'd recommend it highly for babies from the peekaboo stage to the learning body parts stage.

(Hide Review...)  Adorable!
Reviewer Permalink
This book is adorable, and perfect for moms and babies to handle. It is slightly larger than a typical board book, but not too big for little ones to get there hands around. However, there are flaps to lift to display hidden images that are of thinner material than the book itself, so there is the possibility of kids tearing the flaps if they are fidgeting with them. Otherwise, totally worthwhile.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a flap book that teaches babies different body parts by playing "peek a boo" and hiding the babies' mouth, feet, belly button etc. This was the first book my baby ever focused on when he was around two months (I think it is due to the movement of the flaps and the bright pictures). At four months he still enjoys this book over most of his other books.

I had never heard of Karen Katz until I came across this book last Christmas and decided to buy it as a gift for my then 9-month old son. One of the best decisions I've ever made. He loves it just as much now (almost a year later) as he did when I first got it for him. I have no idea why this book tickles him so much, but anything that keeps him happy an laughing is a permanent hit with me. We've since purchased more books by Karen Katz and he enjoys them all, but "Where Is Baby's Belly Button" is by far his all-time favorite!

Reviewer Permalink
I bought this book based on rave reviews and recommendation for my daughter. While it's a great concept and the colors are eye catching, the book was a real flop for my daughter and I because the flaps were so hard to open. My daughter would lose interest between "Where is Baby's mouth?" and the time it would take for me to reveal the body part. When she was older, she also had trouble opening them, and we had to bend a few flaps to make it easier. I really try to avoid this book during story time.

My son loves this book. After watching me a few times, he's learned to listen to the questions and then lift the flaps at the appropriate times to find the answers. Even more pleasing is finding him "reading" it by himself and examining each side of the flaps. The flaps are becoming ragged - but it's worth it to see him independently engrossed in a good book. Among a large assortment of books, this is a frequent read.

I have a lot of peek-a-boo books and this one is not the best one.
The flaps on it are too thin and flimsy - it's hard for baby's fingers to lift them by himself. I need to go through entire book and pre-fold and lift the flaps, so my son can get it done after.
Don't think it will last long either.
