(Hide Review...)  H and I are missing
Reviewer Permalink
The size is not a problem from me. This book is meant to be held by small hands. My daughter has other books this size that she walks around with pretty much all day.

What bothers me is that two letters are missing. I thought I got a defective copy but I read another reviewer count 24 letters represented in this book. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. H and I are missing in this book. No room for a Hippo car & Igloo car? No Humvee & Ice Truck?

Because of this egregious (and shameful!) mistake, I'm tempted to give it an even lower rating. But the fact is, my daughter likes it and responds to it. (She yells out "Meow!Gaaar!" when the cat is driving one of the vehicles) So, yeah, she'll get the silliness of animals driving silly vehicles, but she won't be learning the alphabet from this book, that's for sure.

(Hide Review...)  Small but Cute
Reviewer Permalink
This book is very small. That makes it nice to carry around, but hard to see the little drawings on the pages. Our 15 month old daughter doesn't understand all the crazy cars (pickle car, toothpaste car, etc.), we have a good time reading it occasionally. If you're interested in a Richard Scary book, I would recommend a larger book with more going on on each page. My nephew has a huge one that he loves to stare at.

(Hide Review...)  My son loves this book...
Reviewer Permalink
I bought this book as filler, to receive free shipping. It's a small, inexpensive book. The illustrations are very cute and the format is nice. It has the letter of the alphabet and then vehicles that start with that letter. It's been great alphabet and two-word phrase practice for my 22-month old. He enjoys reading this book with me and he now says "garbage truck" and "big truck." I'm very happy I decided on this book. It is surprisingly small, about four-inches square, but cute, nontheless.

(Hide Review...)  Great book for the car!
Reviewer Permalink
After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)

Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.

It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!

the perfect size for dropping in your purse for keeping a little boy entertained...my son loves the big richard scarry 'cars and trucks and things that go' which is too big to take along, so this is great for portability.

Our 19 month old likes this book. The vehicles are funny. I would not buy it just to learn ABC's. He looks at it for the different vehicles.

This is a great letter book for kids that love cars and trucks. My son loves this little book. He is 20 months old and it fits into his little hands perfectly. He can look at all of the pictures of the cars and trucks. For the letter "Y", it's a Yogurt car, etc....it's a very cute book. I love Richard Scarry

A perfect little book for little hands. The board book style makes it pretty indestructible. My 3 year old uses it to practice his ABCs and my 18mo old uses it to learn about cars, trucks, etc.

This book is good because it is a good size for little hands and strong...however I do not like this book because some of the words for the letters are very strange and I think they don't make a lot of sense....we just look at the pictures and say the letters and I make up new words when we read it. Not one of my favorite books at all.

This is a cute small boardbook that you can carry around in your purse and review the ABC's with your child. About the size of a real apple. My only complaint is that it is a little confusing to have different letters and pictures clumped on the same page.

I expected something bigger, but the immediate disappointed withered away quickly watching my one year old grandson enjoy his new book. I don't understand it but all of my boys, both sons and grandsons were and are fascinated with trucks and cars. What a fun imaginative use of the alphabet! This is my first Richard Scary book, but I think I'm hooked!

My three children grew up reading Richard Scarry books and loving Lowly Worm. This book I purchased for my granddaughter and she loves it. It is a small book, just the right size for a toddler to carry around. She can easily turn the pages and loves all the trucks, cars and riding vehicles inside, with excellent fun illustrations like only Richard Scarry's books can depict. Excellent book, highly recommend.

(Hide Review...)  A mixed little blessing: the world (and words) at your finger tips in the size of a thimble.
Reviewer Permalink
Of the eight toddler books I recently ordered from Amazon, this one impressed me and my smaller reader the most. Be aware that it's the size of a silver dollar, which makes it appealing to a one-year-old. It's also a durable cardboard book, yet it manages to squeeze in all 24 letters with accompanying pictures. One page was hopelessly compressed, and of course there's no word starting with "x" that won't introduce the child to the perversities of the English spelling system. Still, the child stands a chance of learning well over half of the letters--providing this nano-sized item doesn't manage to get lost in a day or two (the reason for deducting a star).

My 18-month son LOVES this book - he is obsessed with cars to begin with, and this book has lots of silly types of cars that he recognizes otherwise (bananamobile, egg car, garbage truck). From the day I brought this home, we've read it a zillion times.

This is a fun little board book that is just the right size for little hands to handle all by themselves. (Be aware, this is a small book; if you're looking for a bigger one, this isn't it.) My grandson loves the pictures, especially the 'U'pside down car. (He turns the book upside down each time he gets to that one.) The ABC text flows smoothly; the illustrations are typical Richard Scarry quality; and it's a great bargain from Amazon, especially with free shipping (when bought with other qualifying items.)

The teacher in me gives this one a 'thumbs up' for little toddlers.

It is the perfect size for her small hands and she loves the colorful pictures. Granted, some of the cars are a little strange in order to get through all of the letters in the alphabet (how about a corn car or a zippermobile?). The best things about this book are the size and the fact that it is a relatively indestructable board book. It also brings back my own childhood memories of Richard Scary books.

My son (17.5 months) loves this book so much he's completely worn it out. We've taped it with clear packing tape several times, but by now even the tape that's taping the tape needs to be retaped, so it's time for a new copy. This is his stroller book--he *must* read this book while riding in the stroller, pointing at all the pictures and exclaiming "truck!" over and over again. Or turning to the fire truck and making a siren noise, or saying "pickle!" at the pickle car.

*I* love this book because it's just silly. It puts real-life vehicles (like fire engines) and puts them on the page next to vehicles that don't exist (like a peanut car).

This is such a must-have book, especially for toddlers obsessed with vehicles. If your child is one of them, then definitely get this book (and Byron Barton's _Trucks_, too).

I bought this book with the idea of saving it on the shelf until my little one was able to learn his abc's. Before I put in on the shelf I showed it to him and he was fascinated! He loved the pictures. The book is rather small in shape so I was therefore thrilled to see how easy it was for him to hold it all by himself. I now know that this will be a favorite of his for quite some time!
