Peek-A-Who

Colorful pictures and simple rhyming texts help children guess what's peeking through the die-cut windows in these two fun board books. The anticipation of what's hiding on the next page and th bright, engaging illustrations will keep youngsters guessing and giggling all the way to the suprise endings.
Nina Laden's illustrations in this simple, rhyming board book are truly magical. The format is straightforward: on alternating two-page spreads, the words "Peek a" are repeated, opposite an illustrated page with a die-cut hole, behind which lurks a cow ("MOO!"), a green ghost ("BOO!"), and a mirror (you guessed it, "YOU!"). The youngest readers will delight in trying to guess who--or what--is peeking through the window, and can easily grip the baby-fist-size holes to turn the pages for the answers. The picture of the "ZOO!" is fabulous. Through the hole, all that can be seen is a wild pattern of colors, stripes, and spots. Turn the page, and find a wild kingdom of animals, one in front of the other: peacock, zebra, penguin, cheetah, elephant, and more. Ready for more peekaboo fun? Try Nina Laden's Ready, Set, Go! . I bought this for my daughter at 18 mos based on the reviews. She loves books. This was an instant favorite. From the moment she picks it up she is smiling in anticipation of what is to come. She is now turning 2 this month and still it is her favorite book. She likes to fill in the blank for you when you read it to her. Peek-a...WHO, Peek-a...ZOO!, Peek-a...CHOO-CHOO! etc. This is really a cute book with great illustrations that my daughter likes to point to and discuss. It flows really well and the ending is just perfect, she bursts into laughter EVERY time. Well worth the money, you have to get this for your little one.

My grandfather bought this book for my 13 month old and my son absolutely loves it. I read it 5-10 times every chance he can get it on my lap. He gets really excited the closer I get to the back page. He loves seeing himself and then freaks out with joy! BUY THIS book... they love the holes in the pages, the colors and the repetition of the story.

Peek-A Who is a favorite of my three your old granddaughter (we made a Dutch translation). It is the joy of understanding what is on the next page. The owl and the mirror she likes best.

I like this book because it's very different than other baby books. The illustrations are very cute. My 10 month old son likes it a lot, I just wish it had a few more pages!

(Hide Review...)  Eek-a!
Reviewer Permalink
My 13 month old loves this book. It actually inspired her fifth word! We were reading the book and as I was about to say "Peek-A... Moo", I heard this tiny "eek-a" from my daughter. I turned the page for Peek-a-Boo, and before I could say anything, she did it again - "eek-a". It's repetitious so I think it taught her to say the word. Now she loves to say "eek-a" before I turn the page. I don't know that you can find "eek-a" in a Webster's, but I'll take it!

This is one of my daughter's favorite books! It's nice and short and easy for them to memorize. My daughter can anticipate what the next page has because of the 'windows' on the pages. This is a great book for toddlers!

I bought this book for my 7 month old grandson. He wants me to read it to him over and over. He works to turn the pages himself and studies the pictures intently. It is a good size for him to hold and sturdy enough to be handled by him. The illustrations are superior.

(Hide Review...)  Good choice for baby's first book
Reviewer Permalink
My baby just turned 5 mos old, when he's about 3 mos old I started to show him books to keep him entertained and quiet. I found some of the infant books are too "mature" for babies at early age, it's probably because most parents wanted a book that babies would be able to play around later on. But this book, it's rather simple yet fun, it builds "suspence", my baby will actually anticipant and laugh and check out himself when I show him the last page. So, I am quite satisfied with this book, more than other books I bought for him.

I love this! love the mirror on the back. My son is 7 months and he reach for it to play with it. Its durable so he can put it in his mouth. He hasnt really react to the mirror in th back yet but I think thats only because he's still young. My nephew, who is 6, just starting to read, loves it when he came over. We made him guess at the end and he said "Peep a" Kliff, which is his name, so cute. And when I was trying to pick out a book to read to my son, my nephew was like read this one. He wanted to borrow it too.

My son is now 10 months old and this is his FAVORITE book! It has been his favorite book for many months now. We read it every day. All I have to do is get the book out and the minute he sees it he smiles, reaches for the book and gets all excited. This is a MUST purchase for little ones. The book is not a coaster for drinks. It is totally FUN!

I got this book for my baby when she was about 3-4 months old. She ADORES it and it is still her favorite to this day (she's 10 months old now!). She loves all her books but this one gets squeals of delight and lots of smiles at just the sight of it, and whimpers when it's over!

As soon as I opened this little board book my 7mo daughter laughed. She loved the colors/shapes and, of course, the "peeking." It's (thankfully) one of the few books I don't mind reading to her over and over!
At first I thought the book was ridiculously small, but now I realize how easy it is to throw in the diaper bag.
Would make a great shower/birthday gift.

This has to be my sons favorite book right now. (He is one) He loves each of the surprises on each page, and likes to have it read to him over and over. The end of the book has a mirror with the words "Peek-a YOU!" And he loves Peek-a Boo! It's a fun book, the perfect amount of words and repetition to hold a little ones attention, along with cut-outs on each page that assist the little one in turning the pages, and grabbing their attention for the surprise on the next page. A big favorite at our house!

We found this book at the library and it was my daughters favorite book! We had to buy our own copy to let other people check it out! She was about 10 months old at the time. She is almost a year and a half and she reads the book by herself now! It is really simple and cute. The last page is a mirror and she loves to look at herself:)

We started reading this book to my daughter around 5 months and by the time she was 6 months it was clearly her favorite book. It's stimulating enough that she pays attention and looks at the pictures, but it's not so long that she looses interest. The pages are thick enough she can turn them herself (not always in the right direction!). I'll definitely recommend to friends.

Every baby I have given this book too loves it. They giggle, they try to turn the pages, they "ask" in their non verbal ways to read it again. In some families I have had to give a new book with each new baby because it gets worn out with use. This book is a favorite.

He's now 7 months and in the "grab and eat everything" phase, but still settles down and studies the pictures in Peek-a-Who when we read it to him. I've already ordered several more for baby shower gifts. And just like some other reviews state, it's nice and short.

My daughter has tons of books, but this is by far her favorite. She can't get enough of it. She has enjoyed it since I bought it for her when she was three months old. When she was just learning to turn pages, these were easier for her because of the hole in the middle.
