I love this book - it's a fun, quick read and I love the author's sense of humor. My daughter is 2 1/2 and is a little luke-warm on the book, but I love it.

Our 9 month old loved it when he was just 6 months. I think that just about says how wonderful this book is. And the ending gives a perfect cue for the little ones to voice their opinion!

This is one of those "what do farm animals say" books, except that some of the animals are a bit... weird (rhinoceroses? Singing pigs?), so Hilarity Ensues.

This is, like many of Boynton's works, a very short book, perfect for babies and for toddlers with a low attention span. Unfortunately, the short length means that your kid will more-or-less outgrow it by pre-k (except as an occasional filler), but that's the price of having a book your baby will sit through.

When my daughter was 18 months old she could recite this book by heart. I loved it and thought it was the cutest thing. Now my son is 14 months old and when he sees the picture of the dog he immediately says ruff, ruff. Boynton is a great author in my opinion and we own several books by her, but this is by far my kids, and my, favorite!!

my daughter had a copy of this that she loved so much! It was read and loved until it fell apart. We got her a second copy for her second birthday, and it's still a hit. Great rhymes, great illustrations. a classic

I love this book! We have several Boynton board books, but this one still is at the top of my list and is a must-have for any toddler's bookshelf (with Barnyard Dance running a close second). We have video of our daughter doing the animal sounds to this, and then eventually reading it all herself, because the rhythms make it an easy one for them to memorize.

While all of this is cute and makes for nice photos and video, etc., the more important factor is how this book fosters a love of reading. It's fun, it's energetic, and it makes both parents and kids look forward to reading together. One warning -- be prepared to read it over and over and over (and over!). When they memorize and "read" it to others (my daughter wanted to do it for anyone who came over and would be willing, they feel such pride and joy. To this day, my daughter still feels this way about reading.

Great book for your own child, and perfect gift from birth until about 18 months. If you are even considering buying this...do it. You'll be delighted!

While this a great book for those kids who love rhyming, it is too short and there is not really a connection throughout the book. My son does not love it like other Boynton books such as the Goin to Bed Book.

This has been in our family library for all our kids to read. The best thing I can say about it is that our 15 year old still quotes it upon occasion. The 8 & 10 year old are enjoying sharing it (and other Boynton books) with their 18 month old baby brother as well. They all know it by heart and no longer need the book in front of them. One of those must have items for getting your children to love books and foster the love of reading, poetry and silliness.

This is an awesome book - it is fun as much for my husband and I to read it to our one year old daughter as it is for her to listen to us act silly as we read it. Each page has an animal sound to create, and we make her smile with each sound effect! The best is "Three singing pigs say LA LA LA!" Just adorable and a must for your baby's first years.

This book is an all-time favorite of my sons! He's had this book for about 6 mos, and still loves to read it on a daily basis. He's 20 mos. and finishes all the pages. I start reading, and he can tell me each of the sounds. It has been a great way for him to explore animal sounds, and pick up different words for his growing vocabulary. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED along with many other Sandra Boynton books.

This is THE all time favorite book for both of my toddler girls. They both have continuously gone back to this book, and never seem to be sick of reviewing the noises that the animals in this book make especially those silly pigs! A short book, you will soon have it memorized and can reiterate the words at a moment's notice. Highly recommend!

My daughter received this book when she was just a few months old. She is now almost 2, and has the book memorized. She can recite it from memory! She loves this book and we read it almost every day. She likes to point to the animals at the end while I make the noise they make. this was the very first book she could read on her own. we just adore it!

I got this for my son when he was 1, the book is read nearly every night
with Barnyard Dance. Needless to say it is about to fall apart. He will say each page right along with me. When you get to the end he points to each animal and makes their sounds.

These books are very durable too. This book goes on all road trips and airplane flights.

A great story about animal sounds. Most of the sounds are accurate, however I have a problem with the 3 singing pigs...would they really sing "La, La, La"? Would a child recognize Boynton's use of rhyme and really "get it"? I think not...I'm having a hard time now, when I took my son to the farm and he was saying "La La La" at the pigs...while all the other kids were saying "oink" or were more accurately making a snorting sound. Their parents looked at my son as if he was not as smart as their genius kids who knew the proper pig sounds.

Thanks Ms. Boynton...thanks a lot.

This book has been a favorite of my twins. They started learning their animals and the sounds with this book. It is easy to recite and fun. We have read it so much, I can recite it without the book when things get touchy in the car or when we are out...it quiets them down immediately. This is a must for anyone w/ soon to be toddlers.

It is definitely a book that will engage young children. My daughter; 19 months, has us read this book every night and moos along with the cow.

I bought this book for my little boy when he about a year old. He wanted to read it everynight and enjoyed filling in all the animal sounds. He just turned six and still loves this book and others by Boynton...he picks this one for baby brother's bedtime story quite frequently! You will not be disappointed with this book!

I received a set of 4 Sandra Boynton books 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. They captivated my firstborn and each child since him. In fact, the books are not just for babies - Moo Baa La La La is still going strong for teaching beginning reading skills to my youngest.

Moo Baa La La La really DOES invite parents to let down their guard and ham it up while reading, even new parents who might feel self-conscious or reserved reading to a baby. And it DOES get lots of smiles and laughter from young children.

You can't go wrong with this book.

(Hide Review...)  Animal Sounds at their finest!
Reviewer Permalink
This is my son's absolute favorite book! He is 14 months and is just starting to identify animal sounds. He doesn't say many words, but each time we get to the "three singing pigs say La La La", he shakes his head vehemently and says No No. Then when we get to the duck he says "quack quack". It's great to see him anticipate the animal sounds on each page and to really see his learning and memory skills build each time we read the story (and we read it at least 3 times per day).
Sandra Boynton creates wonderful board books for infants! They are fun for parents to read, have cute illustrations, and are the perfect length for an infant's short attention span. And the hard cardboard pages really withstand my son trying to chew on the corners.
