Readers captivated by Twilight and New Moon will eagerly devour Eclipse, the much anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's riveting vampire love saga. As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob--knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

I really loved the first book and had high hopes. But as other reviewers have mentioned, Bella's character just does not progress the way it seems she should. She is still a very immature, selfish, snotty little brat. It would make more sense if Edward didn't put up with it and told her to shape up or ship out. But he doesn't. And then there is the whole RIDICULOUS deal with Jacob. She is supposedly so in love with Edward that she would DIE if he were to leave her, but then she keeps going behind his back and hurting him to see stupid, arrogant Jacob. Edward needs to grow a pair and make Bella stop acting like a spoiled child. I will be reading the final book just to see how it ends, but I am doubtful. Oh and teens, this is NOT how love is in the real world.

(Hide Review...)  Best Book in the 4 book series!
Reviewer Permalink
Wow, what can I say. I really loved this book. I was surprised, I am 44 and started reading the twilight series by chance just for something to do while my husband watched football. I became so engrossed in the books that I read all 4 in just 6 days. The amazing thing is I am not a reader. These were the first books I have read in more than 5 years.

I cannot recommend these books by SM enough. They are so vividly discriptive and she teases you so well by writing almost what you want to happen and then pulling back at the right moment.

I am a Jacob Black fan. The way SM has written the series I am always pulling for him and I feel so much compassion for his character.

I am not an adolescent girl, and usually get impatient with the endless tension (usually born of bad communication skills or stupidity, or both) that is Romance. Somehow these books transcend my usual reading preferences. Though, unlike many readers, I thought the last book in the series was the best of the bunch. My reward for three books of somehow, against-my-will, engrossing angst.

The sequel of the Twilight Saga did not disappoint.

I first read Stephanie Meyer's "Host" and loved it so much I couldn't wait to read more from her. I purchased the "Twilight Saga and read all four books. They were all great.

She writes from a first person prespective and you come to love the characters, especially the innerworld of the heroine. She begins as a teenager with all the self-consciousness, weaknesses, and foibles of a teen. She is the definition of a clutz.

Through each successive book you watch her grow and mature into a really wonderful adult heroine.

These books are full of monsters, many of which I came to love.

I can't wait to see what Stephanie Meyer comes up with next.

(Hide Review...)  The most forgettable of the series
Reviewer Permalink
Edward/Bella/Jacob "love" triangle? Whatever... We finally got the backstories for Jasper and Rosalie! And we had wolfpeople (a wolfwoman too, that's right) and vampires working together! This is the stuff of good, cheesy Halloween movies.

A good book? Eh. It was kind of more of the same, which, for me, made it pretty forgettable. I only finished it less than 2 weeks ago, and I already have a hard time remembering what exactly happened in the book. Can't even remember it well enough to do my girl/boy/friend stuff from my New Moon review. Oh well... At least it's time for it all to come to an exciting conclusion in the final book... Right?

I have to say, I read all four books in this series in just over a week. This series is NOT just for young adults -- I think anyone with an interest in the supernatural and/or emotional love stories would enjoy every book in the series. For instance, I am 39 years old, and I gave "Twilight" to my 63 year-old mother to read when I was done with it (we're both vampire fans). Normally I have a very short attention span, but this series kept me on the edge of my seat. It was well-plotted, suspenseful, emotional, well-written, and a joy to read. I just finished "Breaking Dawn" this evening, and I am experiencing a huge letdown because I don't have any further books to read in the series! Stephenie Meyer, please, please, please write another book in the series -- the one you hinted at at the end of Breaking Dawn!

(Hide Review...)  Really Edward?.....Really?
Reviewer Permalink
First of all, I would like to preface this review with a concession (so two stars). I really did like the first book and I had high hopes that the characters would grow and mature. Much to my dismay they did not, well one in particular. Bella. She is still the careless, mealy-mouthed, weak kneed, swooning, defensless complainer that I remember from book 1. I have a hard time believing that a 100+ year old vampire would put up with her sucky attitude. I wanted to bite her in the neck and end it! In the last 2 books she was playing poor Jacob for the fool. First for information, and then using him so she could kill herself on a motorcycle (Which, I won't even get into that when one min. she's described as selfless in keeping Charlie and Renee happy, but then shes going to kill herself?) and then she's considering ruining Jacobs life and marrying him as a backup plan while hopelessly swooning from Edwards departure, She was using this poor 15 year old boy. And now that I've finished this book I think that I can add the word 'manipulative' to the list of Bella adj. As much as Edward and Jacob are fighting over her she was fanning the flames herself. Come on, if you are MADLY in love with someone do you go behind their back and against their wishes to see another man? And then run home and complain to them when you were kissed by that confused boy? "I don't want you to fight, because I love you....but he kissed me" And then she starts telling Edward that she may be in love with Jacob???!!!! Arrrggggg! I won't be reading the next book. Teenagers: Don't play men like this! Trust me, it won't end well for you!

I am a huge fan of the Twilight series but this book was a real disappointment. I didn't mind the lack of action; in fact, I liked that she focused on the relationship of Bella and Edward more. I also liked that Bella does start to realize the magnitude of becoming a vamp. You get some more background stories on the rest of the Cullens too, and on the werewolves. Now the bad... Bella does get really annoying in this book. Are we really just supposed to swallow that after all the professing of her intense love for Edward that she could ever possibly feel the same (or close) for Jacob? And I felt that both Jacob and Edward's characters were out of whack in this one. I ended up hating Jacob for being so pushy and mad at Edward for being so nice and understanding. But if you love the series like I do you have to read this one too. The irritating stuff doesn't really happen until near the end anyway!

This book loses all aspects of Bella's and Edwards relationship. You root for Jacob the entire time and wonder what the heck Bella is feeling for Edward and Edward does little to show WHY he loves Bella. But this book is necessary to read to understand the 4th book in this series. Overall, I loved the series, but I really disliked this book.

Man, this book, while it had some stuff, really just stalled the seemingly inevatable. Bella's gonna get changed sometime, so why not just spare us the agony and get it over with? Though I have read the 4th book and understand why she kept it till then, any reader will be wishing that by now could Bella please be a Vampire? Anyway, though I see this book as a filler, there is some interesting/weird personality crisis going on with bella, and is worth reading to get to the 4th book. Would not re-read if i had a choice.

either way, KEEP READING! =))=

I tried this series on the recommendation of others who have read it. I'm completely disappointed.

I can see the appeal, most definitely, but Bella has to be one of the most immature 18 year olds I've read about. Edward, for me, is about as flat a character as a pancake, and even after reading three of the books, I still can't see or understand the attraction between these two. Bella is willing to give up her soul to eternal damnation for Edward based upon his smile, his eyes and his marble-hard body, and because he can cause her heart to skitter? Maybe I'm too much of a realist, which may explain why, when I read this series, I'm in a perpetual state of eyeroll. It may also explain why I constantly want to hit Bella upside the head.

I understand that the author's studied literature, which forms the basis for many of the characterizations and material we read in this series, but honestly, there's no depth to the characters or the story. It's page upon page of endless, immature, emotional torture, all told from Bella's perspective as a girl blinded by what, in her mind, she calls love. And I'm disappointed in Charlie for his indifference to Bella. He seems more like a plot device rather than a concerned father, placed within the stories simply because a father figure was needed to round them out.

Jacob is the only character who shows depth (and realistic thinking and emotion), and while his actions toward the end of the book made me do a major "huh?", he's become the sole reason I intend to finish reading the series. In short, that's a lot of money I've spent in favor of one, single, solitary character. What a waste of time and dollars.

I purchased this book for my daughter, of course I read the first two. We go so into the books, my daughter made T-shirts with The Twilight Saga on the front and Team Edward on the back, I was Team Jacob of course, but we have had a lot of fun reading these. Nearly everyone in my office also has read the series and its fun discussing the events of what has happened and where they are at. I have never enjoyed reading a series as much as this one. It was fun having someone else following along the story with me. Fun Books! I recommend the series to everybody.

Eclipse is by far one of the best of the Twilight Saga. Stephenie Meyer is absolutely amazing! Edward and Bella have a forbidden seductive love for each other. I was sucked into the series within 20 pages of Twilight. Even though I never liked vampire themed books or shows, Eclipse totally changed my mind. It's nothing corny like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The love between Edward and Bella is unbelievable. I HIGHLY recommend reading the series. All 4 books are about 500-700 pages long, but so good that you will probably sit down and read the book front to back in one day, like I did!

Reviewer Permalink
While I moderately enjoyed Twilight, I hated New Moon. A friend of mine told me that Eclipse was better so I read it. It is better than New Moon, but not by much. Once again, Bella is solely motivated by the fact that she wants Edward and treats everyone else like dirt because she's too obsessed with Edward and the Cullens and wanting to be a vampire. It creeps Edward out at one point. It has a slow plot and is pedantic. If you want a good vampire novel, go read Anne Rice.

This book, as well as the other 3 in this series are utterly amazing. I am an avid reader and am always looking for a good book. Once I started reading this, I could not put it down. I read all 4 of these books in 2 weeks! The story touched me in a way that no other story ever has. The love between Edward and Bella is indescribable; the word "love" doesn't even come close to it. To me, this story one-ups Romeo and Juliet.

These books have just baffled me. I never read books more than once, but I know I will read all of these again. I miss the characters so much already and I just finished the last book less than 12 hours ago. And no, I am not some crazed teen, but a married 23-year-old who doesn't often get "obsessive" about things like this, so this is a first for me, which goes to show the power in the story.

I fell in love with Edward, Bella, and the whole cast of characters. I was sad to finish the saga because I didn't want it to end, but it was an ending that left me feeling good inside. I would love to see more of Edward and Bella's story, but I know that chance is very slim. I would recommend this series to anyone, but if you are going to read Twilight, you must read all 4. They get better as they go! Happy reading!

I honestly love the Twilight Saga...it is the best series that I have ever read. BUT Eclipse has to be the most boring of the four books. It drags through the middle. It took me longest to read this book because it just didn't have my full attention the way the other three books did. I think if Meyer would have kept Jacob as sweet funny Jacob then I could have liked him more, but he seems like a guy I dated in High School and well he was a jerk. I absolutely loved the proposal...truely felt the love Edward has for Bella BUT I think she takes his love a little for granted.

All in all I like the book but it toyed with me too much.

I found this book intriguing and adventurous. I love the conflict and appreciated the flaws in the characters..yet something still bothered. Bella! Once agin she was whiny and co-dependent on Edward. The obseesion is disgusting...merely overwhelming. I was glad to see she admitted that she was in love with Jacob. I proved that she cared for SOMEONE besides him. Sometimes I love Edward and sometimes I hare him. after Bella forgave Edward too easily for leaving her I became annoyed at Bella and then Edward became controlling which pushed me off the deep end. He wouldn't let her visit Jacob at first. HELLO!!! THAT BOY/MAN WAS THERE WHEN YOU WEREN'T!!! He has no right to tell her what to do. I think him maing decisions for her has turned out sourly as we can all see. By the end of the book I loved Jacob, just like I'd enjoyed him in the last book. He just seems better for Bella. They have this deep connection and it's just WAY more realistic. Someone else said this in their review but I would rather cuddle to a warm loving guy than a cold stone. Well enough of my ranting...overall it was a great book!

Of the first three, this one might be my least favorite. The plot, while well laid out and given plenty of exciting historical backstory... lacks a certain... something. Perhaps "urgency" is what felt missing, even though the Victoria-Laurent-James trio'd plotline reached a head.

And for once, something felt off with the beloved characters. I can buy Bella loving both Edward and Jacob -- I really can. But not... not in the same way. Jacob's so well engrained -- in her mind and ours -- as an almost brotherly figure with a boy's unrequited crush -- a crush that so pales in comparison to the intensity of Edward and Bella's love that it could almost be swept aside entirely. But Jacob and his wolven family certainly will not be swept aside, and play a crucial role in this pivot point of the series.

Aside from this, her quality is consistent, though the cliffhanger is possibly worse than ever.

8/10

I love Eclipse and the entire Twilight Saga. I was actually buying all 4 books for my best friend in Guam. I just couldn't part with my copies. I read them over and over. They are that goo.-Catherine

This book is very exciting. We finally get to see the vampires and warewolfs fighting together. We all know how much a difference that made in the series. It is also exciting to get a little information on Tanya's clan.
I wish that the book had never ended. It was so awsome and had such a good story line. It flowed till the last ending mark.
